You can see Big Brother Is Shaping You on your Steam home page while others can't because Steam's AI speculates that you might like this game based on your play history and purchasing habits.
Your news feed features articles related to offline games that others don't see.
On shopping websites, you see ads for video game consoles where others see sneaker ads.
These days, it's hard to find a site that doesn't feature some degree of personalized customization. Now everyone sees the world differently.
When everything you see is determined by an AI, do you think it will customize your experience based on your needs... or will the things you see be chosen by a hidden agenda?
Will news platforms intentionally hide critical comments from you?
When you search for a product on a shopping platform, what items do algorithms want you to buy – and how will search results be arranged to maximize the chance you make a purchase?
Do you use search engines?
Do search engines really list all the relevant results?
How do they determine the order to display them in?
Couldn't they bury something interesting after the first 100 pages of results?
Do intelligent ad blockers only block ads?
Do intelligent news filters only filter out falsehoods?
...
So when user data from all online platforms is given to the NSA, what could they do with it using AI?
Big Brother Is Shaping discusses all of these issues: how your data is collected, how it is analyzed, and how this can affect you.
The game currently takes 30 minutes to an hour to play, and more content could be added in the future depending on player feedback.

Still no English translation for Chapter 2, waste of money for English speakers. Steam should remove this from the store. While the translation for Chapter 1 is a bit wonky, it's not that bad. My 2nd complaint is that the achievements are Chinese.

An interesting visual novel on how the government and corporations use AI (artificial intelligence) to spy and learn more about the citizens.
It's something everyone should know about as there's actually a lot of truth in what's being revealed here. In fact, for those in the know, it's how they shape the people's perception the last two years on the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccines and each country's SOPs, using social and news media algorithm as well as "fact-checkers".
So far, only Chapter 1 has been translated to English, with Chapter 2 in the works.
I highly recommend it!
Developer has a good intuition to introduce how AI affect our life.
I categorize this game as Education..
Pro:
- Gameplay include simulate AI and demonstrate how AI influence your life.
Cons:
- Some bugs and don't know where to click
- Too many wording in chapter 3 and feel like i in class rather than play game.
Still enjoy the AI simulation part and hope to have more playable content.
This game delivers a strong and awakening message, but it's not really a game because there is so little to play with. Looking forward to further development and reiteration.

The translation has stopped on chapter 2 since the release. two years passed, and the developer moved on.
And we English readers still don't have even half of the content we've paid for.
Big Brother Is Shaping You is a game about the facts of AI, free speech and algorithms about showing interst to different people.
To be honest, this is not really a game. This is a chill program about telling facts and showing how a fictonal AI works and operates. Long story short, it's an intersting game and some of the facts could be true, too. However, this game shows both side of the AI works. Music and graphics is really good looking, but if you looking for something action fueled, this is not your game, but if you want to know about this topic, get the game. It was all right, pretty short too, so get it when it's on sale.
This game is an interesting and engaging way to introduce someone into the benefits and fears of a surveillance society (Mostly fears). It is very well done and I cannot wait until they finish translating the next chapter. It's a very good visual novel that you have to try out!
This game was magical, it was only an hour long and i really cant wait for part 2 and 3 to be in english but man its quite fantastic. As a psych major, its really interesting and furthers my opinion on technology and how randomness has been taken out of the equation with algorithms and its just such a sweet story.
Yes it is more like a docu game and yes it is like reading a book, but the art is fantastic, the backgrounds are amazing and the concept is great.
If you like emotional games and have an open mind give it a shot!
Okay, I want to start out by mentioning how much I like the artwork for this game. It's eye catching and a pleasure to look at. Now that I have said something positive I can mention how much I disliked this game. What I thought I was getting was a visual novel with a story, choices and consequences. What I got instead was a kinetic pseudo documentary / PSA announcement about the dangers of big data. I wish I would have passed on this one and I don't really understand the positive reviews. Clearly they got more out of this "game" than I did.
I bought this game by searching for the publisher of excellent expectations. Excellent expectations is so great and special and big brother is also as awesome as it! It's more fun when I found if you select several options in a different order, you'll get a different feedback. So special, I love this
It plays more like a Visual Novel, there is no interaction apart from some question prompts. Nothing happens if you miss them, but at least it makes you understand the point the game is trying to show (how AI can analyse and shape people), as it makes you think about it before showing the answer.
The main reason I downvoted is because I only got access to the 1st chapter (about 30 minutes of gameplay), while the 2nd is still in translation. I could find no information of this before, not even in other reviews, so beware.

Good game, literally its telling us how trump won the election, and how some countries are controlling what their people think, step by step, you will find it thought provoking, not just a simple VN.

a short, simple text & image-based game wi/a very important message to convey. the translation (english version) is not as 100% as some might want it to be but i found that it at least didn't hinder the experience for me.

This game will "open your eyes" to the possibility of AI and big data, if (unlike me) you didn't know already.
Give it a shot. It has a lot of reading and the English translation isn't fantastic, but it gives it more charm.

假如我是人工智能 Big Brother is Shaping You is basically a meditation on how a heavy algorithm-based network manipulate and spy on people and their social relationships.
Overall theres a little story here of a digital era worker who wonders in his daily comodity of virtual networks, some frustruations that go with it, but also the sentiment of defending what him and we know is fundamentally repressive, justifying his passive relation with social networks and the aspects that surround it.
It works as a visual novel, since gameplay is basically clicking for the story to continue, and answering some questions every so often. The music works really well on its melancholic nature althogh theres one track in particular that got old pretty fast. The art-style fits very well on this tale, as it suits the simple overall aesthetic, making it easily projectable into what you're seeing/reading.
Its a good story for what's priced, having bought it at what I suppose is 2USD (1.292CLP) give it a try if you're looking for half an hour of something to read, and a more social and close small perspective of this virtual era of algorythms, information management and the cultivation of numbness.
