Описание

Simmiland is a god game.
Watch how mankind develops!

What the heck is Simmiland?
In Simmiland you create a small civilization that you can only influence indirectly by playing cards to the land, such as plants🍃 and minerals ⛰️. Playing a plant on a grass biome tile will result in a wheat plant, but playing a plant card somewhere else will also create something else. Try to experiment as much as you can!

Playing cards costs ✨ 'faith' ✨ that you gain from the humans when they periodically pray for you, or when you fulfill their wishes. One may wish for a berry bush and another for a deadly plague ☠️

One of the more important cards is the ⚗️ 'inspect' ⚗️ card. This card can be played on items, objects and sometimes just on empty tiles. The inspect card will trigger an invention that will help the humans explore your world further.

The way you shape the land and guide the humans will decide which way the humans will develop. They can go as far as to build a rocket! 🚀

The metagame
You can play Simmiland in 2 different modes:
  • Normal mode - your card deck is limited and you will find the apocalypse card at the bottom
  • Endless mode - you can play an endless amount of cards, but you won't get any achievements

In normal mode you will get achievements. Both achievements and progress will net you some in-game currency which you can use to buy new and more cards to fill your deck, giving opportunity to new possibilities.

Features

  • Quick, but relaxing, 10~60 minutes play per game
  • An alternative endless mode where you can shape the land into infinity
  • ~20 different cards
  • 13 different biome types
  • 30+ inventions to discover
  • 40+ different resources to discover
  • 20+ different achievements to find

Fun and challenging but the people ai gets overwhelmed easily-then starve. They also get buggy which is shitty when it can make you lose in classic mode

It’s not like WorldBox (not sandbox; or endless; or easy) but it’s worth a try.

fun lil colony sim
enjoyable to mess around, discovering things naturally for a few games. everything is probably discoverable on your own, but i'd recommend a guide like i've linked below to save you time when you wanna get to the end game

In Simmiland you start out with a randomly generated map, a deck of cards, and one "mankind" card which you will place first thus creating x1 person and beginning your civilization.

From there you are dealt out a hand from the deck and will place cards one at a time on the map, redrawing to replace each card you use until you exhaust the deck. Your goal is to take that one little human with nothing and eventually send a rocket to space by the time you reach the end of the deck.

The deck and hands are randomly shuffled so each play is different. As you earn "stars" from each run, you can buy additional cards to add to your deck, which improve your ability to provide new resources and evolve your people. So, in subsequent runs your goals will be more obtainable. The catch is that you cannot control how your people will behave as you place the cards around them.

Each card represents some very basic thing, like mineral, tree, plant, sun, rain, wind, inspect, sample, critter, human, etc. Each card, when placed, will interact in some combination with the biome you place it on, another card you have placed upon that, or both. In this way you will propel your people forward from a neanderthal-like state to modern man. Each time you fulfill a "wish" of one of your people you will generate a certain amount of the resource necessary to place more cards. You have to balance between moving your society forward and placating your people.

It's entertaining in the way that sea monkeys are entertaining. There are no tutorials so it's all trial-and-error but I think it's fairly intuitive once you get a grip on the core mechanic and have a few ah-ha! moments. My biggest criticism is the RNG is totally wild so it can take quite a while to be successful (and I still only have half the achievements). Remembering the correct sequence of things and how to sort of steer your people to do what you need them to do while dealing with the card draws can be frustrating after a while, especially since there's not a ton of variation over the course of several playthroughs.

The longest run I've had so far I think was in the ballpark of 48 minutes. Due to the UI and how much you are clicking on things, I think this is best played with K+M otherwise it gets a little brutal on the ole phalanges. Speaking of the UI, I wish you could zoom out a little more to see the entire map area without scrolling around.

I only have one other Sokpop Collective game and that's Stacklands and I haven't played it too much so I can't comment on the developer in general. My understanding is that they have a quick turnaround on publishing short little titles, some with varying amounts of success.

Although I find it charming, I'm not too sure under what circumstance I would recommend Simmiland. It's a bite-sized auto civ/sim game with card mechanics and rudimentary graphics that you can play in between other things. Giving it a thumbs up but probably best on discount. If you already have it in your library I think it's worth a peep.

Last 3 achievements won't pop, I had 4 people alive in almost entirely snowfields and tundra and no Ice Age, and then hit them with a meteor and no Crowd Control :( Fun game but don't play for achievements.

This is a cool mix of god game and doodle god esque puzzle game, it's pretty fun watching your little dudes carry out their lives while you slowly give them new things to use and research. It gives off the kind of god game vibes that aren't fully hit by all the similar games out there.

It also triggered memories buried deep in my brain of an old game by the venerable Mr Chubigans/Vertigo Gaming of Cook, Serve Delicious fame called 'The Sandbox of God' - if you have fond memories of that game you'll probably enjoy this.

Unfortunately it is pretty short - I'd love if there was a bit more to the gameplay than *just* discovering new stuff - populous esque conflict between multiple factions, multiple levels, challenges etc (although the achievements will keep you going for a while).

The card buying mechanic also feels a bit unnecessary - there's not a whole lot of variety in the cards you can buy and you get enough points to buy *everything* after only a handful of games - a lot of the cards feel surplus to requirements too - e.g. you only need so many mines and trees before they just become faith fodder. And on the flipside it's pretty easy to softlock yourself because you forgot to research one of the things you've already worked out in every previous game - e.g. you use/sell all your mines and then remember you forgot to put one on a desert so you can research glass so you have to keep using/selling other stuff you *think* you don't need anymore until you draw another one.

Gripes aside this game feels really great for something that I believe was made in a pretty short timeframe - I eagerly await Simmiland 2.

Unclear rules and which actions lead to what result, no tutorial, chaos, randomness, bad and lacking UI, no real incentive to invest time in exploring the game and understanding its rules, no feeling of progression or target. Refunded.

This game could really use a tutorial or intro mode of some kind. I just couldn't figure out what to do through normal gameplay, which makes it sort of a bummer compared to other really fun games by the same studio like Stacklands.

Playing on Mac. Fun game that I wish actually functioned well enough to be able to complete. Initially wouldn't start up at all, but managed to get it working via advice from some old forum threads. Then, the game would consistently crash when trying to use certain cards. Tried to do the good ol' uninstall/reinstall to see if it fixed anything & now it just completely won't start up at all even with the original tricks. On trawling through the forums, it seems that these issues have existed & been ignored for multiple years now. Seems like the devs have abandoned it, which really is a shame for such a cute game

Not really a lot of content, the game itself is okay for what it is but endless mode is basically an unplayable laggy mess. If you really like these type of games, it's 5$ and will be fun for a couple of hours. AI of mankind is terrible, and if you add a bunch of them at once they basically just stand around and do nothing until they die.

This game is made in an age that almost always requires people to look things up when they are met with something they dont know.
People, like me, who hate to do this will ultimately lose interest in this game as not knowing what to do and how to do it or even how to proceed in many a case does not help when you want to make progress.

And the issue for the game is present in more than just one simplified way. Cause for as simple and small the game may be, that would be too easy.

I swear, its always like this. The bigger the game, the simpler the problem. The smaller the game, the more complex the issue as a whole.

So what is this games problem and why is it more complex? Ultimately it comes down to one key aspect. The Card system.

The Card system itself is tied to not just progression itself but also to the will of your people. If you dont got the card they want and wasted it prior or just got unlucky with the draw, you just lost a dice roll and have to move on without a bonus. This on its own isnt bad.

What is bad is the fact that once all cards in your deck have been used, the game is practically over even if your people havent died yet. Oh yes, your people can die. Very very quickly. Without you knowing why, how and how to prevent it.

This is another issue tied to the card system.

So whats for you to do? Play a card of water on grass and create a swamp. Play a card of water on desert and create grass. Play a tree on grass and get... a tree. Get an axe to chop the wood. Then do the same with stone and pickaxe, oh wait you cant do that cause you dont got that. Nope you have to sample the stuff. Which is also a card.

So now you got wood, stone and you even got some food related cards so you got food too. Cool. Now what? Cause stuff is getting cold around your area. You dont know why. It just happens. And now your people are freezing to death! Why is no one starting a campfire??

Cause you havent discovered fire yet silly! You gotta: Place a tree, sample the wood (or wait for your sims to chop it down once you got wood and stone) and then use a thunder card. This in turn creates two things. Charcoal and more importantly lets you discover fire for your people. So now your people wont freeze to death! Nice!

Yeeeeeeeaaaaa nope. Thats not how that works. Something else is missing. And I cant be asked to find out what. I also cant be asked to look it up. Because already getting to the point where I discovered the most minor things, was more annoying than really fun.

The biggest issue being the, yep, card system again. Cause you can buy more cards in the game, using run generated currency. Thats fine. What isnt fine is that you have to:
A. Pick and choose from categories
B. Hope the draw still works out
C. Now work with a practically bloated deck.

The more you add, the more you have to draw. And the more you draw, the more you have to hope its the right one. You wanna add more trees so you can make a forest? You bought 3 packs and now you cant get any normal cards anymore for a while? Sucks to be you, you kinda did it to yourself. You should have known. Or thats what I would say if the game actually told you this.

Simmiland is 4 bucks. Its an ok price for the game. But the game itself is just rough. Rough as an experience. Rough as a fun playthrough. Rough as a puzzle game. Not rough in a way where its fun.

I know the dev was known to make short and simple games so was kinda surprised they also made a few complex ones including this one. The pixel graphics, which I believe was their preferred style, was always my preference as well. The gameplay was quite fun and watching the little human becoming smarter and building more stuffs was very soothing for me for some reason. Took me quite a few tries to get some of the achievements though. Still, what a fun game. I hope the dev can make more of these games in the future.

A deck building god game that is really fun, but can be a little frustrating at times. There’s a lot of RNG, especially at the beginning. If you are going for end game achievements, you will spend a LOT of time restarting looking for a large continent and a good starting hand. Even then, a bit of bad luck drawing cards and your run could end. ... Or the people can just stop building for no reason I could figure out and your run will end as well. (I just needed a lightning rod and I has plenty of metal but no one would collect it to build anything.)

Small frustrations aside, it is a fun game that is exceptionally cheap, so it is worth picking up.
