Godfall Ultimate Edition

I have to agree with some of the negative reviews here. The game is a nonstop looter. You are endlessly getting gear and weapons and it makes gear upgrades seam trivial and worthless. Not only that, but it's a chore to have to keep comparing gear and weapons EVERY TIME you loot a chest. It got super annoying that I didn't even want to bother looting chests anymore. Combat also got boring really fast. I abandoned the game after 6 hours. I just couldn't get through it. The story line wasn't enough to keep me playing either. I would not recommend this game.

Is it the worst game ever? Far from it. I like the graphics. The combat is quick and has nice weight to it. The skill upgrades are so far so good.
But the gameplay loop is very repetitive. The loots are bland and I don't feel any difference equiping new stuff. The story is non-existent and the characters are boring. And most importantly, once the server is shut down, the game is dead.

At 75% off, I don't regret it. I had some fun playing solo while listening to YouTube, until I got bored.

The game isn't revolutionary by any means, but it runs great and is fun enough. If you can get this on sale, it's a pretty fun time.

Listen to people, stay away from this cancerous piece of garbage. Counterplay please stop making games. I'm really glad i got this on sale and even that already didn't feel like worth even one penny

Perfect Combat

I'm not up-to-date on why people hate this game so much (other than always-online Gearbox shenanigans which, yeah...), but it seemed to have all the elements of all the things I was looking for in a decent fun hack'n'slash so I picked it up on sale for ten bucks (and let's be honest, that's the real price right now, it goes on sale all the time).

Game is awesome. Fun, weighty, not-too-complicated combat with a decently-sized skill tree and enough build variety to get you thinking. Satisfying end-game loot grind with several different game modes. Unique takedown animations for every enemy. Pretty nice-looking gameworld. And the weapon designs are pretty varied and look awesome. Armor designs are way over-the-top but they're pretty cool as well.

It won't appeal to everyone, but if you're looking for a satisfying looter-slasher that has an emphasis on gameplay (which is unfortunately not very common for those of us who like these kinds of things), give this a try.

Just be sure to get it on sale (or hell, maybe with a different kind of discount, if you catch my drift) because the dev team is out of business and the publisher is, well, you know.

The 'Need That Light' achievement hunting experience in this game perfectly expose the overall state of its Quality Assurance. The game is as wide and shallow as a puddle, though it somehow manages to sneak in an achievement where the player has to hunt for 200 chests which do have a very small chance to appear anywhere inside a gigantic, lifeless field, with a timer running against the player and the tools which were supposed to assist in the look for those chests, simply not working 90% of the time and not pointing to where the aforementioned chests might be. It doesn't make for a difficult achievement, but for one that is blatantly disrespectful for the player's time and enjoyment, it highlights the absolute mediocrity to which the QA team for this game was bounded to, and that shows thoughout the whole of the game. I must admit that this is as low as the bar goes but it doesn't get much farther up from there in any of its other aspects, perhaps with the exception of the visuals which are shiny, though that comes down to aesthetic subjectivity. Especially if a completionist: stay away from this one for not everything that glimmers is gold.

I played the original duelyst back in the day and I really was excited for counterplay to make something when Godfall was announced. Sadly this game is unbelievably boring and dull. The combat is pretty braindead, weapons and accessories don't feel like they matter and the enemies all feel the same when fighting them. I refunded this game even at $10 because its not worth it

grate end game but sadly no more updates and the community is so small so no match making i wish the devs didint let it die grate repeatability i hope more games will make a tower focused end game with roge like gameplay i wish it was an off server game so moders could add custom a boss or a new weapon class like a war bow or something i hope when the servers do shut down they at least give us an off line

Not so bad especially if get it with deep discount. I actually like the melee combat.

This was the PS5 flagship - it is as shallow as its beautiful.

Can't even start the first story quest "into the monolith", because I am level 3 (It requires level 4). And I am stuck in seventh sanctum with no way to increase level. Worthless game for me.

My EYES are Bleeding

First off, my hours are low as this is not the account I put hundreds of hours in on. I played this for a long time with my friends on PS5 and we loved the grind. The mechanics in the game feel seamless, the weapons "felt" powerful, and the game-play loop as a whole wasn't too bad. However, what killed the game for me was when they introduced the "revamped" ailment system that changed the entire landscape of the game. Put simply, there were cool builds and synergies that the old ailment system had that worked really well with the game-play loop. Some builds swept the minor enemies to gain buffs against single targets, some ailments you would stack then absorb for buffs to the character making them ramp up in power over the duration of fights. This system was quite well fleshed out and the builds were numerous and the grind for them was the joy of the game. The game devs then decided to basically turn the entire system on it's head. They turned all these chance to apply ailments into, use x move to apply ailment, and made the ailments themselves just Pokemon typing based on the enemies you faced with the same Damage Over Time stack and that was it. They nerfed the ailment system into the ground, re-rolled a lot of the weapons we had spent hours grinding for, because the new application of ailments made the grind we did for "Chance of Applying Ailment" as it was no longer needed.

My rant finishes with this, the game is still amazing, the loop can be boring at times but that's any looter based game. The game-play stopped with me when the ailment update took place, as it did for my friends and many of the community. The devs took a niche, but still very fun game and thought that changing the core mechanics of the game would be what the community wanted. They didn't listen, they didn't revert it, and I gave up on the game. The only reason I had purchased it again when I got a PC was to see how the game fairs as a new player and to see if the game-play was still fun. I can see the glimmer of fun in the game, but after the knowledge of what could have been I can't bring myself to grind again at this game. I don't recommend it to new players because the game is a shell of it's former self even if they won't get to experience what that was like.

I do not go with the reviews usually. I try the game and then decide whether it's good or bad. Homefront: Revolution also had mixed reviews and mostly bad. But still gave it a try and it was one of the best games I had ever played (single player campaign). It's because homefront stayed true to the core Concept of a shooting game.

Looking at the gameplay videos for Godfall, everything looked good. The graphics, gameplay, etc. But after playing it, I realised that the reviews were true. This is indeed a bad game. The characters, landscape may look good, but the gameplay and story is very bad. Unlike the usual hack n slash games, this game's aiming and targeting mechanics are not good. The character attacks where your cursor is pointing and thus, instead of a controller, it's better played with a keyboard+mouse combo. Story is not engaging, combat feels okayish. Was expecting DmC/ GoW/ Darksiders 1 type game with something unique, but was disappointed in the end.

Played only for less than 120 minutes, so that could refund it.

Of all the things I've heard about this game, there was one constant: at least the gameplay is fun!

It's not.

If you make an action RPG and bind the main attacks to the shoulder buttons, this alone is questionable. What really crosses the line is forcing the player to play this way with literally no way to change the controls. Not being able to remap controls is unacceptable for an Action RPG, especially considering how recently this game released and how long it was supported post-launch. There's a Steam Layout remap that switches the binds but the issue with doing it this way is that the glyphs don't change in-game, so you have to translate what the game is telling you to do to what you actually have to do on the controller.

Not that any of this would be worth it, because the gameplay is not actually fun. Your starting kit is bog-standard basic. There's more mechanical depth in 1.8 Minecraft combat than there is here. The over-the-shoulder camera and stilted dodges make this game feel stiff and the slashes unsatisfying. Much of the game's depth is locked behind a skill tree, so you're constantly expected to learn new combat techniques throughout the game - okay, cool, makes sense - but it doesn't work on this god awful control scheme that worsens an already terrible gamefeel.

I'm surprised by how fun this game is given the mixed reviews. Really enjoying it.

Definitely worth the $10, so get it on sale if you are interested.
First thing, it's nice that all the cosmetics are something to earn in game and not tied to shop. Seems to be a rarity today with newer games that its a praise for something that used to be normal.
this version does give a few of the Valoplates some starting cosmetics too, which is nice.
Combat takes some getting used to, but is very satisfying once your start learning how to build the right skills and weapons into a Valorplate. Normal mode is kinda boring in the early levels, but Hard mode is a nice challenge all around that really makes it more intense.
Plays well with either mouse and keyboard or controller. Only complaint about controller is there does not seem to be a way to customize buttons on it.
If you remap some keys on Mouse and Keyboard though, it plays really well.
Only a few bugs pop up once in awhile, but nothing super game breaking.
9/10 would recommend

Honest review, Game is fantastic, cinematic are great, story line is there, that being said i didn't get this game for the story, combat is amazing! take-downs feel smooth, weapons feel powerful, high skill level required, there are still some bugs, especially playing with multiplayer during tower mainly, most of the game really happens in the endgame content so best not to listen to any player review under 20 hours of game time because they don't know what their talking about, the game in my opinion is not worth at full price, however, if you can pick this game up on a sale, its incredibly worth it.

Devs, your game is garbage. There are so many egregious things wrong with it that it's not worth reviewing much more than that. There are so many game breaking bugs I can see why the game was only $8.

Amazing art direction IMO. Action is fun and smooth once you find a weapon and playstyle you like. Play with the bois for best experience. Overall just a fun hack-n-slack.

Good for making computers suffer, apparently, through it's benchmarking mode.

Odds are, if you can run this game at 125+ FPS consistently in benchmarking over the course of a long period of time (24-48 hours, perhaps?), your computer is pretty much game ready, hardware wise... This game is not nice to computers. In fact, I think I hear mine begging right now, writing this review.

Another thing going for this game is it's aesthetics, and it's co-op multiplayer capability (non-crossplay between Steam and Epic, at least).
That would be about all, regarding this game.

Godfall

Rating: 5/10 - Mediocre

Godfall is one of those games where, at first, you think: “Why is this game not more popular?” It combines a decently Fine combat system that very much feels like a slightly enhanced version of God of War 2018’s combat system by at least having the decency to have more than two weapon types and a better boss/enemy variety. Godfall also has some Great art direction which ultimately results in a fairly enjoyable initial 5 hours of a boring campaign that, while having a Fine premise is nothing to write home about in the end and drags out for far longer than it needed to be with repetitive missions and story beats that get stale after the first time.

Worst of all though is that, once you’re done with the Mediocre campaign you get to an incredibly boring and repetitive endgame loops that just has you run the same missions and fight the same enemies you’ve already fought countless times.

In conclusion, Godfall is an overall Mediocre looter that has nothing special to offer and is just plain boring in the end. Worst of all though, is the fact that this is an utterly dead always online game, which means that even those that found some longtime enjoyment with this game will inevitably be unable to even play this game on their own.

Get it on sale, awesome game. Very satisfying hack and slash with interesting almost AAA mechanics. Underrated devs and an underrated title.

Godfall Ultimate Edition gave me exactly what I wanted, which is gilded, testosterone-poisoned nonsense. 10/10.

However, if we must be objective, Godfall is an flawed game that is pretty difficult to recommend. People with more taste than me will likely find the entire presentation to be laughably cheesy (and even I would have to admit that the storytelling is extremely weak). From a progression standpoint, Godfall's loot and character customization seem to only become interesting at the endgame. And Godfall's endgame is an redundant grind through reheated level content repurposed from the main game. This results in an experience that feels like it is in conflict with itself.

At least the combat is fun.

I'm so glad I gave this game a chance, this game is absolutely stunning. The combat is fast paced and fun. The customizations and weapons are in depth. It's a mission based souls like combat looter progression. And if you play it on hard for the missions it feels truly difficult and rewarding. Started it yesterday and ive already binged 8 hours. I didn't get for a long time because of bad reviews... personally I don't understand the bad reviews. This game is a blast.

If you're going to play the game for a minimum of 20 hours, oh and buy it on sale with the dlc stuff attached (complete edition), then I can recommend it to you, why? Because a buncha variety of the game is pretty much locked till you reach lvl 50, untill you reach that point, familiarize yourself with the game's mechanics, the different weapons and enemies, the story can feel pretty non-existent, the characters and voice acting can feel like minimum effort, so the gameplay is what's going to carry the game.

Now then, I would also recommend you to not fight Zamora in the spirit realm part of the game (till you're lvl 50) as Zamora can really suck to fight without a functional build, as he will just keep running away and shift to spirit and get out of spirit all the time, this recommendation is to avoid that stupid pain of a butt which he pose. Spirit realm is a map thingy you pretty much unlock halfway in. Zamora is just not worth the pain, unless you have friends, but even then I would find it questionable that early in.

The variety of gameplay later on comes in the form of these shard upgrades which each valorplate can have, which you also have to unlock in order to use. It's also good to focus your build towards a specific type of mechanic, whether that's techniques, ailments, breaching, or whatever, it is possible to upgrade the rarity of equipment from rare to legendary (just a lil expensive), I can probably not mention anything more than this, but keep in mind that if you play this game, it will be for the gameplay itself, if you don't enjoy the gameplay, which can remind slightly about darksouls albeit maybe a bit clunky at times, then you were likely not the targeted audience for it. The game got good optimization (can lower graphic settings till it's stable for you without much loss). The game can sometimes get buggy when it comes to doors in the story mission aspect, probably some internet thingy, haven't really experienced any such bugs with the end game stuff though, which is where you will mostly be once at lvl 50.

I don't think comparing this with God of War is a good idea.
Clearly they took inspiration and that's not a bad thing. It benefits from that greatly.
Of course that are many things to criticise here.
But all in all it's fresh breath in the genre and deserves a chance.
Give it a try! Just don't expect a triple A experience.

Great game. I really don't understand why no one talks about it. It has different layers for combat and is very challenging.
The cons for me would be the grinding, but it part of makes this game part of its genre.
