If you like 40k lore this is the game for you. Voice acting is superb and the narrative is really good. Having said this, the gameplay itself is quite repetitive, any mission could be every mission and vice versa, mechanics are ok but after a couple of hours you are gonna realize this is it from start to finish.
True to the 40K universe and a fun RPG. Haven't gotten the expansion or DLC yet but very much looking forward to it.
The gameplay is more about tactical skills than the ability to quickly control the mouse and press the keyboard.
The game as a whole is not for everyone.
Although character customisation is awfully lacking and weapons offered are often strictly tied to a single class, along with linear armor options to really tighten the noose, this is probably one of the best top-down view Warhammer 40K games, right behind the good old Dawn of War.
Even as I have only bought the base game, it still holds a lot of content, and you really get to feel the joy of purging filthy xenos and heretics. I've yet to find a room you can't scour clean with a heavy flamer. The rush of using sheer melee, ripping through a traitor Ogryn with an eviscerator, or bashing a dumb Tyranid's head in with a thunder hammer, it's euphoria. Gun down a troop of rebel planetary defence forces with a bolt pistol and a storm shield, or ditch protection entirely and mow down Nurgle's abominations with a heavy bolter. Hack the disgusting Helbrute into pieces with a power axe. The opportunities to purge are endless.
If you're already a fan of top-down rpgs like PoE and really want to try having the privileges of an Inquisitor, this game was made with you in mind.
I forgot to mention, you even get to play as a Knight? (Not the class, the heavy walker weapons platform.)
I have been playing as a pyromaniac celestian inquisitor and it's a lot of fun.
the top down FOV takes a bit of getting used to (you can't really zoom out past the limit of your weapons) but other than that I enjoy it.
The story is actually pretty good.
It's quite worth it. But then again, the ending is not concluded yet. What happened to Alpha Pariah and the inquisitor ? there is no closure. It's quite a pain in the a-s-s when you expect story to have a decent ending but you got no closure.
Incredible story, lore, and attention to WH40K detail. Love it!
A very casual friendly ARPG where you get to complete a few minutes missions taking place on small maps, slaughtering packs of enemies that get instagibbed from one shot on normal difficulty. You can raise it by a lot if you want a sweaty hands though.
Build variety is also very casual, with small passive trees mostly improving stats.
Gear includes all classic W40k weaponry, class locked with smart drop.
If it wasn't casual enough, there's also a co-op for blasting through the maps even faster.
Player base still exists, updates are regular so game isn't dead yet.
game is a lot of fun but the crafting system is broken. i try to craft a weapon and it works, then when i go back later and try to craft another weapon and it does not work. it says something like "cannot craft due to pending rewards" or something. i like the game, but there is no way to know how to find that shi. i will leave comments open so y'all can help.
Chainsword is red, plasma is blue. Eldars are pieces and heretics too. Sisters sent postcard, Malcador texts, I hold my guts out, "Emperor protects."
This game got me to ARPG's.
Solid on all areas of gameplay etc. got nice end-game content.
+ its warhammer themed and done good.
never really thought Id get into a mmorpg like this but it definetly has its moments of challenges.
Fun with friends, sort of a Diablo/poe ish arpg with elements och tactical cover system behind destrutcable objects and dodge rolls. Alot of progression to push through with some very cool enemy and enviorment designs. I like
its good + if you like warhammer series you really enjoy playing it
I only have two hours in this game, but I cannot stomach any more of it. This game is an incredible let-down. I was expecting a fun hack-and-slash dungeon crawler type game set in the 40k universe, but all I got was bland, unintuitive slop. First thing: the performance in this game is absolute garbage. During gameplay my FPS will drastically swing from 200fps to 70 to 40. It's not unplayable, but the performance dips during gameplay are very noticeable and jarring. This game also absolutely will not play in windowed mode. When I switch my game to windowed mode it turns into a black screen and the cursor gets massive. To fix this I actually had to find the config file and erase my personal settings. As a result I am forced to play in fullscreen.
If you purchased the bundle like I did (on sale it was all $10) then the game installed TWO COPIES of itself: Martyr and Prophecy. From what I've read the Martyr version is the base game and Prophecy is a sort of add-on. That's incredibly confusing and wholly unnecessary.
I began with the Tech-Adept class since I enjoy playing summoning/pet class characters. I was stuck with 5 skills total: 2x from my weapon (Left-click and right-click), 2x to summon my pets (Q and E), and 1x additional ability (F) determined by a worn item that has limited charges for the entire mission. More charges for this item can be found, but the fact that it's limited at all is not fun for me. The Tech-Adept pets are just awful and, two hours in, I'm still using the exact same ones. They're melee-only and move VERY slowly. There is no way to direct them to attack certain enemies or really make them do anything. They exist and simply attack. The primary abilities you use are determined by your equipped weapon. I've been stuck with the same halberd for my short play duration; quite literally nothing else has dropped. The skill tree is pure passive buffs and there is extremely little variety to the skills you can have which, again, are tied to your primary weapon.
The game does not progress naturally in the game world like nearly every other ARPG. Instead you're dropped onto a "mission select" screen and you must choose the mission you want to play. It feels like this game was meant to be on Mobile but the developers ported it to PC. There are even mid-screen pop-ups on this menu if you've leveled up; just like a mobile game. Two hours in I am still NOT ABLE TO SELL ANYTHING. I've been collecting a bunch of garbage with the intent to sell, but there is no way to actually sell items. I believe that comes up later after you play the game for a while, but I think it's incredibly stupid to have this locked behind playing missions. The missions themselves all appear to be the same copy-paste designed with the same copy-paste enemies. Extremely limited variety, at least during the first couple hours of the game. That got old incredibly quick and I just felt bored. I wanted to see if anything would change so I slogged through and, to be fair, the game did introduce a couple new enemy types. However, there is no strategy to defeating them. Even as a non-tanky character I can just face tank the mobs with no issues whatsoever.
I am absolutely in love with the hardcore religious zealotry of the Warhammer 40k universe and I'm so disappointed at the lackluster games made from it. This is yet another lackluster game set in the Warhammer 40k universe. I do not recommend it.
The game has good bones. Needs some attention and maybe a different engine for the purpose of being able to keep the game up to date. I hope the game keeps getting updates and seasons or maybe a new iteration of a similar game. Never really liked Warhammer 40K RTS but other game types help bring the lore and the world to life for me and I am definitely enjoying the storytelling although some places seems intentionally drawn out for leveling purposes to prevent you from getting too powerful too fast. If they want to look to other ARPG's for inspiration, games that depend on seasonal content extending the lifespan of a game should allow players to interact with other content at their own pace. I will keep playing as long as the game is getting supported
This game has barely improved since the beta. Things keep getting added to it, but that doesn't fix or excuse the poor base gameplay and the very lackluster technical side of things.
This game is similar to Diablo 2. A great time-killer. Now there are a lot of classes. Fun like old school diablo.
not fun after 12 hour just the same map over and over agin with just differnt missons i say if you get it for 9 bucks like i did then not bad but for a war hammer game its kinda lackluster
Inquisitor - Martyr does an incredible job of pulling you deep into the Warhammer 40K universe. Right from the start, it nails that gritty, dark atmosphere where you're constantly reminded of the heavy responsibility that comes with being an Inquisitor. You feel the weight of your actions as you hunt down heresy and chaos, with every mission carrying a sense of urgency and importance.
The game makes you feel isolated in the vast, unforgiving world, yet there's also a real sense of power in your hands as you battle through hordes of enemies. The combat is fast and satisfying, but it never takes away from the mood or the story. It’s a game that really makes you appreciate the grim reality of the 40K universe—each victory feels earned and every decision weighs on your conscience. If you’re a fan of Warhammer 40K, this game absolutely brings the Inquisition to life in the best way possible.
This is not a terrible or bad game but I found it very hard to like it.
It is simply not beginner friendly.
- Key assignment doesn't make much sense though it can be fixed after some key mapping.
- Very little explanation of what passive skill trees do, what effects they have on skills,
- Level up messages tell you new items/powers are unlocked but don't explain what they do.
- Can't find much guide in game or on internet on how to allocate skills or attributes for the class played.
Other Pro/Con I noted in the first few hours playing:
+ Voice acting good
+ universe and setting seems interesting
- maps designs get repetitive and tiring
- random missions are very repetitive, like killing all enemies.
Uninspired and boring. The style is there, the essence is not. Boring game mechanics, boring character progression, boring combat. If you're a 40k megafan then give it a shot, otherwise don't bother.
the concept of the game is really good but this game feels so bland and boring
Really worth it on sale. Play this with a controller and you will have a solid action game.
One of the most fun arpgs I've ever played, and not just late game builds but from the start. Skills are fun and its easy to find a set up you enjoy asap.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr delivers a grimdark ARPG experience with satisfying combat, deep customization, and a rich 40K atmosphere. While its pacing and mission variety can feel repetitive, fans of the universe will appreciate its lore, brutal action, and co-op play. A solid choice for Warhammer enthusiasts, but not groundbreaking. Still recommending.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is an ambitious attempt to bring the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40K into the action RPG genre, and while it succeeds in capturing the aesthetic and atmosphere, it falls short in several key areas, making for a mixed experience.
On the positive side, the game nails the Warhammer 40K setting. The environments, character designs, and sheer brutality of combat make you feel like a true Inquisitor purging heresy in the Emperor’s name. The variety of weapons and abilities allows for diverse playstyles, whether you prefer heavy melee combat, ranged gunplay, or psychic devastation. The level of customization, from gear upgrades to skill trees, adds depth to character progression, and the game features a massive amount of content with its procedurally generated missions and ongoing updates.
However, the game struggles with pacing and gameplay variety. While combat is weighty and satisfying at first, it can become repetitive over time. Enemies often feel like damage sponges, and mission objectives tend to blend together, making extended play sessions feel grindy rather than engaging. The cover system, which seems like an interesting addition for a Diablo-style ARPG, feels clunky and rarely necessary, making it more of a gimmick than a core mechanic.
Performance and polish are also inconsistent. The UI can be unintuitive, loading times are longer than they should be, and some mechanics feel underdeveloped. Multiplayer and co-op are fun additions but are not always as seamless as they could be, with occasional connectivity issues and balance concerns.
Despite its flaws, Inquisitor – Martyr remains a unique and atmospheric take on the Warhammer 40K universe. If you're a hardcore fan of Warhammer and enjoy slower-paced, methodical ARPG combat, you may find a lot to like here. However, for those expecting a Diablo-level of fluidity and polish, the game may feel more like an interesting but flawed experiment.
Rating: 7/10 – A promising but grindy ARPG that thrives on atmosphere but stumbles in execution.
This is a very good game, the multiplayer is not very active but the campaign and single player is a good time and worth a play through.
High hopes, dull reality.
As a fan of W40k I've launched Inquisitor with hope that it'll be nice hack'n'slash in W40k world.
Sadly, missions are following one of few scenarios, which make game dull and boring after few missions.
Even working on skills & trying to build the best set in inventory doesn't spice this title up.
excellent game! i needed more warhammer lore after playing space marine 2 and this is it. its rich and deeeeep and im soaking it all in. hope to see more of this
Repetitive beyond belief, building blocks repeat each other over various terrains, weapons don't feel very different from each other. Disappointing.
A lot of fun, dynamic and a lot of good lore.
Clases are fun, great 40k feel. and good story. a bit grindy but that's to be expected.
Looks OK and has the 40K vibe but its too repetitive. 40 hours in and gave up as it just felt like a grind without any great story arcs or rewards to keep it interesting.
This game is great.
It is a time sink but will not ask anything of you.
But i spent more time in this game than i should have. I got every penny worth, but i do suggest getting all the DLC and stuff on sale, cause ho damn pricey.
The Heirophant DLC couldve used some TLC, not good enough for its price. Overpowered? sure, but for comparison the Tech Priest, which basically had his own story arc and i felt a deeper meta for its builds.
Each inquisitor has a different voice actor and they are all pretty damned good! I was truly impressed they went that far, i am grateful. There are tons of other small details that i will leave you to discover.
The maps are boring af, same couple of areas every time. Its not distracting enough for it to be a problem, but i wish they did more with the enviroments. The encounters in each one become place-mat problems that you expect every time. But varied enough.
The grind is fun tho. Getting your build supreme is satisfying. While the levels scale to you, the enemies dont become more or less damage sponges. Its more leaned on how your resistances or debuffs are built.
Overall, this is the best Diablo clone since the first Diablo.
Also modding it is super easy, barely an inconvience. Use "Notepad++".
just realize the game doesnt allow to play offline mode and then change to online mode using same character....
Having put 66 hours into this game over the last 2 weeks, I am a bit addicted to this game and wish I picked it up years ago. Being able to play as an inquisitor, traveling to various planets in different systems, solving mysteries and waging wars against the enemies of man-kind is so satisfying. At first it is a bit overwhelming with the number of skill trees and items to pick up, but once you get use to it, you have a lot of options of how you want to build your inquisitor.
The game is great, I love it. But it crashes a lot and somtimes it freezes my entire system. No longer interested in playing it.
Delivering the Emperor's Light has never felt so dull...
The grind is real: same missions, same mechanics, just slightly different gear.
Getting to L.100 where you can experience 'endgame' is tedious and boring and soooooo unnecessarily long.
The good? The campaign offers some w40k lore and dialogue. Casually you CAN enjoy the Martyr for 10-20 hours (maybe). But beyond that?
The game is as lifeless as a servitor.
Purge the heretics? Sure, always. Except not like this.
I had to change it to negative after I got side mission on other side of the map and they asked to defend against 21 waves of enemies to defend cargo. It was such a mess.
Game is similar to DOW, a top-down shooter with RPG elements.
This game is quite lore heavy, which is mostly a plus. A lot of logs to read in campaign. Combat is chaotic, and you have to use many buttons simultaneously for most effect, so mouse and keyboard are not that great for this purpose, or you have to redefine a lot of keys to be closer. Else you are using mouse for janky movement, or arrow keys for precise, sometimes holding shift for shooting while standing, using QWES for rolls and pressing 1-5 for skills, and left mouse button/ right mouse button for attacks and heavy attacks. So save yourself headache and use controller.
Enemies are a bit too fast, and camera is janky so you will find you are adjusting your camera angle all the time for visibility. While attacking your character will move a lot and sometimes miss hitboxes of the enemies, so Shift is crucial button to use for ranged characters. Not sure if there are actual bosses, so far there have been more minibosses to fight until mission on frozen planet.
Few DLCs that add extra classes and I guess class specific weapons. Not as many as Paradox games.
6/10 mostly due to controls and camera, playable and probably 7/10 if you like multiplayer. Get it on heavy discount.
Fantastic Warhammer 40K game!
Incredibly fun and addictive to play!
I have never been more 'meh' on a game in my life. On the one hand, it is Diablo/POE with a Warhammer 40k coat of paint. Which, if you are like me and love all of those things, sounds amazing. In execution, the game feels bland and takes that idea and doesn't do anything new or interesting. It functions ok, it is executed ok, it plays ok. Do you want an 'OK' Warhammer top down action game? Play this. Just don't expect anything here to blow you away.
I literally cannot even load into a mission with a computer that far exceeds this games age old requirements. It just crashes after loading 25% for the first tutorial mission. Do yourself a favor, if you're looking for an ARPG or even a Warhammer game, look elsewhere. After going through the reviews and discussions this game has series unfinished optimization and performance issues that the devs have never bothered to tackle.
I wish I tried this when I bought it during a summer sale, I would've refunded and never looked back.
Stay away Space Marine, there's no worthwhile relic here.
The Good
Inquisitor makes good use of the Warhammer 40k world. The classes (at least including DLC) are a good representation of the Imperium. The enemies include several different factions. The characters are well written. My first character was a Tech-Adept and I loved his dialogue, his personality was exactly what I wanted. At the same time there's decent variety among the NPCs and they're not all generic representations of their factions.
The Bad
The game is painfully unexciting. Enemies aren't fun to kill and end up blending together. Levels feel like you're slowly plodding along. Unlike most ARPGs where there's at least a world you're exploring, levels here are unconnected and mostly bland hallways of sheet metal or concrete.
Worse is the way items are handled. Each item can easily have 3 or 4 affixes, and they're always awful. +5% damage to stunned enemies? +3% suppression? I never cared about what dropped. On top of that you get something like 40 items per level, so if you're actually trying to gear your character you'll spend practically half the game comparing affixes.
Conclusion
Skip the game. Even if you love Warhammer 40k there are 40k games with better gameplay out there. And if you're looking for an ARPG, there're *many* better ARPGs. I was really hoping for a game with some simple, visceral, 40k fun but unfortunately this isn't it.
Frikken awesome, still very good in 2025, specially Battle-sisters and new Hierophate Retinue DLC :)
Game is interesting. Can be fun. You are sent a mission to seek the source of a mysterious distress call, that then leads you on a journey that will change many things. Including possibly how you see yourself. Each class has different mechanics and strengths. Your decisions do matter, at least so far as unlocking abilities and equipment. Fully recommend. Though might want to wait for a discount to buy all the additions. Not least of which the expansion Prophecy.
Always lo!ved this game and it's easy if you just want to play for a short time or all day
its warhammer 40k X diablo 2.
if you like the setting and playstyle then its a no brainer.
Cool hack & Slash set in the Warhammer40k universe.
The base classes are pretty simple, but the dlc classes are much more interesting, so buy them if you want a more fun experience.
Multiplayer is great but requires some grinding to get to the higher level challenges.
Good story, voice acting, visuals, controls, and interface. Lots of options for character & equipment customization, meaning I could see myself playing this again as a different class.
