This game is the best I've ever played.
I've been enjoying for 35 years. I love IREM.
Yup beat this one that fast (cleared 100%) and don't know if I'll ever play it again.
I bought R-Type Dimensions today and I like what I saw. The menu was good and simple. The sound was good and the classic graphics were absolutely spot on. I also loved the infinite lives mode. Doing this game in three lives? Yeah, no. I'm too old for that crap.
The reason I'm leaving a review is for Steam Deck users. I bought it to play on the Deck but for whatever reason, the controls were completely unresponsive. I tried everything I knew to get the Deck controls to work but nothing. I eventually got it to go with my Steam controller through the Steam Dock. But this wasn't what I bought it for. I wanted to play it on the move. So, I decided to refund it.
In short: Great product. Unresponsive controls on the Steam Deck.
I've had the Amiga version, so some things work differently from how I remember: specifically in R-Type 2 you could hold the orange overcharge shot indefinitely and the autofire also worked better than in the arcade version. The music of Stage 3 and 5 were also swapped so the Stage 3 Bydon Armada fight was a lot more atmospheric on Amiga. It was also easier than the arcade version, which is just sadistic.
Nonetheless, it's a neat little remaster.
The prime example how a retro/arcade port/remaster be done - all other devs learn!

I am a huge fan of R-type games. This one brings R-Type I and II, and bove can be played as a classic graphic and sound, or a kind of remastered version, can play using a arcade theme too. You can change between the original and remastered updated version, just click anytime on the game.
Amazing classic!
