Typical hidden object game. The puzzles were tricky by the end.
If you can look past the low-resolution graphics and clunky mechanics, it's actually an okay puzzle game, with nice HOGs and challenging minigames. The story and the settings are somewhat clichéd, and the game doesn't have much to do with Romania (except the exterior image of Bran castle) or Romanian customs and legends.
nice game play, lots of puzzles and hidden objects, story is ok
Played demo on bigfish games or alawar games and it was interesting, I wanted play it again but I forgot the title and then removed it off then I didn't know they had on steam so I picked up again.
So this after author that very famous. Not sure if this really happened. But makes you want pursue to find truth of everything what happened.
Like: Author/Player, story, and place itself
Dislike: you have follow through and click is time activated I was like what? You can't go back when there is sequence collect an item.
Personal Opinion: Are there more of these on Steam?? You made me feel enchanted I like bright and vivid colors but I kind concerned did author get hurt at all in that story at all?
This game was good. I mean really good. I had a lot of fun and, what's best, it keeps you going. It's a story about swapped identities, love triangles, honorable knights and beautiful ladies, betrayal and death (hence the title) and the eye of Iago (the way someone sees is not what it seems).
It's a Middle Age romance set in Romania, more specificially around the Bran Castle which can be seen in the majority of scenes. I have adored the backgrounds of this game! It mixes Medieval architecture with traditional Romanian household items and regional costumes.
Aside from the praise I give to the backgrounds and to the soundtrack, I must say that the puzzles are absolutely different from one another. Some of them resemble the ones found in other games of this genre; however, the vast majority are so diverse that you need to think outside the box to solve a puzzle.
For instance, you have to click on the hand of your protagonist in order to shed light in different spots to retrieve parts of a broken goblet. You'll find out more when you'll purchase and play this game which I definitely recommend! Let's now go over the Pros and Cons for this game.
PROS:
- Catchy story;
- Beautiful scenes;
- Fitting soundtracks;
- Fast-travelling map;
- Diverse puzzles and Hidden Objects minigames;
- In-game achievements unveiled at the end of game;
- Sidekick funny-looking dog called Bandit;
NEUTRE:
- I didn't know up until the end of the game that the pink dog rose is the Hint button;
- I would have wanted to belly rub Bandit;
- I didn't see a Romanian in the credits, so now I understand why some words written in the Romanian language are grammatically and ortographically wrong.
- It's alright, thought. The words don't hinder the game in anyway. Plus it makes the player feel an authentic experience of the Romanian culture and tongue.
CONS:
- Even if it has Steam Overlay, I still couldn't take any screenshots. So no screenshots.
- No Trading cards;
- No Steam achievements (as we usually know them);
- The Guide book doesn't give you clear instructions on how to solve a HO minigame or a puzzle;
- No Journal entries.
All in all, I recommend it to anyone looking for a romance story and a good adventure. I just love Nicolae! Kudos to the developers for creating such a character! I would love to see more of these games from this developer.
I would like to hear your opinion as well. How did you find the story? How did you think about the mechanics of the game? And so on. Please write and let me know. Until next game!
Great game! Highly recommended HOPA.
Note: Review failed to load when first posted, but was written immediately after play :)
Interesting and entertaining. Dana Knightstone can see and interact with ghosts: help her solve a centuries-old mystery in order to help the restless spirit of a grieving lover. In the epilogue, help the castle's caretaker come to terms with a devastating accident in his past.
The main game is very nicely put together. It feels a lot like working through an old-fashioned who-dunnit. The characters aren't especially complex, and you can guess at the shape of the mystery early on, but it still provides a nice framework for a whole series of different HO scenes and puzzles. I like the story because you want to know *exactly* what happened.
Pros:
- the main story is especially interesting
- the art is very nice
- the historical scenes being set over the modern day ruins is fun (you get to see everything "now" and "original")
- the interface generally works well
- the music is good
- the voice acting is good
- the in-game Guide is complete and easy to follow if you need/want it
- good length of game for the main game (short bonus chapter though)
Cons:
- not having played previous Dana Knightstone games, the intro was abrupt
- some puzzles and a few HO scenes could use better explanations
- many of the in-game achievements are tied to game time (finish Part A in 30 minutes); it doesn't encourage being careful with selecting objects (in HO scenes), and may detract from just enjoying the game [but there are no Steam achievements, and there is an excellent Guide]
- I missed having collectables
- a couple of cut-scenes were necessary for a puzzle to make sense, but the cut-scene couldn't be replayed
- a few HO scenes were more work than fun for me (find the shattered pieces), but most were very good
I definitely recommend this game, especially if you like a bit of a supernatural and historical vibe to your story.
Very glad I bought it; even a moderate discount makes it worthwhile.
