No.
Great setting but gameplay is just............not good.
Too dark things attacking you from all sides and non stop.
Can only agree with previous reviews of this game. The concept for this game is great, the atmosphere is very good, the game graphics look good for what it is. This game made me think of the Event horizon movie and good game based on that would be awesome. But a lot of the sound effects are awful, they do not sound good at all. Especially the sounds from weapons. And the controls are wonky. You move way too slow as if you were stuck in jelly and your ai teammates run around like idiots.
And it lags a lot in this game. In chapter 7 i got stuck 5-6 times just because the quest didn't work. Could not find the last enemy, so could not finish the mission. And ai teammates got stuck everywhere and stopped following me.
So can not recommend this game, but if you realy want to try it out, buy only if it is on sale.
This game is great, and continues to get better with each update.
Ghostship Chronicles is the third instalment of the Ghostship Trilogy, but it comes first in the series' timeline. CDF Ghostship and Ghostship Aftermath are set on board the ageing dreadnought, "Goliath", but this game is set a year before CDF, on a different ship, the "Heckel & Thomas", a long-lost colonisation vessel that has been found drifting in deep space.
Ghostship Chronicles was originally my least favourite of the trilogy - not because it's a bad game, but because it's the most straightforward of the three games - but it's continued to grow on me the more I replay it, and at the time of writing, the developer (edit - the one and only developer on this game!) is still adding more and more content to the game. With the recent introduction of Dr. James, a relentless unkillable pursuer (think Mr. X or Nemesis from Resident Evil) and multiple difficulty modes, hard mode is a real fight for survival on the ship!
Ghostship Aftermath, the first in the series (but also the last in the timeline) was unforgiving. Set on board the derelict Goliath, you had the run of the ship, with little handholding, and had to listen carefully to instructions from your off-ship colleague or the Goliath's duplicitous AI, ASMI, or locate clues around the ship - all whilst managing your oxygen supply and limited flashlight. On top of that, the game's encounters and story elements were heavily randomised, and had permadeath! It was a masterpiece in indie gaming, but garnered unfair harsh reviews from players who wanted something easier and more accessible.
CDF Ghostship followed and used the same ship layout and many of the previous assets from Aftermath, but added a space station and the planet's surface, plus a questing system and files to read, adding even more depth, but in turn provided greater gunplay mechanics and the ability to autosave - the developer's way of telling fans "I hear ya", but was still too tough for some.
So fast forward to Ghostship Chronicles and the developer has implemented all new assets with lush graphics and incredibly smooth gameplay. Zombies shuffle out of the gloom, moaning and snarling as they try to devour you, whilst aliens slither along the corridors amidst all manner of other horrors. In exchange for a harsh difficulty setting and randomised gameplay, you've got a more linear storyline (although monster encounters and item locations are still somewhat randomised), a lot more health and survivability, and an AI-controlled team to support you.
Whilst this is by far the most "FPS" of the trilogy, it still has some roots in the survival horror genre which began with Aftermath. You have an inventory to manage, no map (although you have a map device you need to hold in your hand), files to find which reveal more about what went on, there's backtracking between areas of the ship, and a relentless pursuer, Dr James. Play the game on hard mode - it's how it was meant to be played!
Although the story is complete and the game isn't in early access, the developer is still updating the game, and continues to add more content to experience - so much so, that the game is quite different from when it was first released. There's still more to be done - for example, CDF and Aftermath were quite rich in lore (particularly CDF), so I'm really keen to know how this game ties into the previous games and I'm itching to know what caused the infection (I may have missed it in the files), plus I'd love to see more of the ship opened up and maybe more free-roaming like Aftermath and CDF.
But this is still a fantastic horror FPS which keeps me coming back for more, particularly now I'm moving into setting myself challenges like "pistols and assault rifles only", or "laser weapons only".
Well worth picking up at full price if you're into horror shooters on derelict spaceships!
I liked this one. I felt it was very immersive and easy to play. There was a lot of loot and a satisfying amount of weapons. Graphics were awesome. The entire game took place on the ship, so don't expect a ton of different locations. I like that sort of thing, but people who do not should look into it further. Most importantly, the squad did not detract from the experience, though the option to go through alone would have been great. I just completed my first run through this game and found, for me, at least, the effect of being trapped in a hopeless situation came across as intended. That one man did this is remarkable--well done! This is the best of the three Ghostship games, in my opinion.
My only complaints are the screen tears a bit here and there and, for whatever reason, the player's objectives are plastered on the screen with apparently no way to remove them. A simple toggle option would help tremendously. The developer is still on this project, I think, so one can only hope. It did feel a little short, but I played it often; perhaps I just blew right through it. Additional areas on the ship were made available during my run, so it'll no doubt feel longer my next time through. I also don't think I went everywhere there was to go. Most places, but perhaps not all. There's a tremendous opportunity to add more content in a different location at the end, but that's easy for someone who is not a developer to say. The game is quite good as it is. It would also be a great place to start a sequel. I played offline almost exclusively, so I'm not sure how many hours it took. Some of the enemies were a little lackluster and the AI went soft at times, but now I'm splitting hairs. In all, I felt the pros far outweighed the cons. I enjoyed this game quite a bit. Again, well done!
i wish i could enjoy this game but its impossible.
parters ai is worse then a todler
ai rushes into horde to get murdered in seconds
no tooltip on what items do so you have to collect everything just in case
the f*****g explosions is something else. you can detonate fuel tank 2 rooms ahead only for you or your team mate to die in 1 shot for 0 reasons
unless you have friends to play this do not touch it
The concept is great and there are very little games as this on the market. That is a big plus but...
Cannot shake the feeling I'm playing some moded Systemshock2...
Do NOT trust the Dev public screenshots... game looks ok but not as detailed as in those screenshots.
Two things are a bust:
1. Interaction mechanics - they feel "plastic" is you know what I mean.
2. Animations [,ostly enemy] - stuff a corpse full of straw and tell it to run around and you get something better than you have in the game.
Those two things are a big STOP sign for me... the game feels like an Alpha version. Seriously.
At the current state I cannot recommend it to anyone.
The game is cool.. I was liking the suspense... its not as good a s aliens colonial marines but it does well.. I think the developers could have added more to this game... love the weapons and many health kits and plasma weapons.. they should release a part 2.. better enemies... graphics and better bots ,and A. I. to the other marines.. I had to keep saving them.. they ran in to the danger instead of running towards safety..lol... and they slowed me down just a bit...the game has potential if they invest a little more time in enhancing it..I give it a B++++
I recommend this game. I would give it a score of 8 out of 10.
I have played FPS shooter games for a very long time, since the Wolfenstein 3d and DOOM era, and have played all the other MAG Studios games. Ghostship 2 AKA CDF Ghostship was my favorite, and I believed it was a very good game. This game, Ghostship Chronicles, is an improvement over CDF Ghostship in every way.
I have not quite made it yet to the end of the story campaign, but have invested several hours already into the various modes and story.
For graphics I would give this a 9 out of 10. You can tell the solo dev who made this game is also a very skilled 3d artist specializing in realistic scifi models. Everything is unique and super detailed, from the set piece props such as shuttle crafts, to the weapons, to the actual architecture of the environment. The ship itself is very detailed with various types of rooms and detailed gadgets adorning the walls and ceilings, much like in the previous GhostShip games. Level design is superb.
For Gameplay I'd give this a 7. It is very fun and vastly improved over the previous game, with much more polish and less bugs. The AI team mates that follow you around are very smart and useful. Several times I was surprised to enter a new room, and then see my team mates hold back and take cover behind a door frame, and then lean out and shoot at the incoming horde of insectoid aliens, while yelling out context sensitive dialogue such as "Get them off me! There's too many of them!" Etc. Very immersive. The guns feel very natural as well, and there are many interesting features. You can melee with rifles, or even pull out a knife. You can also deploy interesting devices such as flares to light the way, or force field shield orbs that protect you and your team from damage. A few other perks as well, and many items can be picked up by checking for loot in lockers, which seem to be randomly generated. I would give gameplay an 8, except for the fact that there are still a few bugs with AI such as jerky movements and glitchy situations, but those do not really detract from gameplay too much.
Story: For now I give the story a 8 out of 10. By intention, the game is not that dialogue heavy, so it is hard to assess the story, but this is by design because you are thrown into an unknown situation without much backstory and developments happen on the fly. And to be fair, I have not made it to the end yet. But there are interesting pieces of the story that pop up in various ways, such as PDA screens/data pads that you pick up and read, the dialogue of your team mates, some in game cut scenes, etc.
Sound: 8 out of 10. Very well done sounds for aliens, battle dialogue from team mates, nice sounding weapons, other various effects. Music is also well done. There is not much of it, some atmospheric tracks and a few unique pieces but it fits the mood of the game.
Controls: 10 out of 10. I have played many FPS games over the years and this feels very natural. I kept mostly the default control scheme, but changed maybe 1 or 2 keys.
Replay value: 8 out of 10. Even though I have not made it to the end of the game yet, I hear there are some random elements like GhostShip 2, and there are various endings based on which squad mates you keep alive. There are also various instant action modes and at least a multiplayer death match mode, with swarms of aliens thrown in for more fun. We have yet to see if there is coop, right now the dev has said that is unknown as it was being worked on and there were some bugs to work out. But I believe the average gamer will be able to get in a few weeks or even months of gaming in this game.
Overall, this is a great and highly enjoyable, unique game. It is even more amazing that it was crafted mostly by one individual. I would put the level of detail of this game up there with some big budget AAA games, and there is not much to hint that this was an indie game made mostly by one individual developer.
my Game keep crashing at chapter 6, just after i powering up pod 12. it said
"The UE4-Ghostship 3 game has crashed and will close"
LowlevelFatalError|Error [file unknown] line 198
Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (error: 0x887A0007 - Reset)
can anybody help me with this.....
The Game is extremly bad in every Aspect and i tryed to force Myself to play it longer but there is no Way i gonna touch that a second Time. The funny Thing is that the previous Part "Ghostship Aftermath" (wich i didnt play) at least kinda looks better then this one and im not talking about Graphics that should be clear, just watch Gameplay Videos for both Games and you may understand what i mean.
Anyways i gonna refund this one here and no, i dont gonna by GA im pretty sure i will never look back to this Franchise because the Developer is at least 20 Years behind Everything that is on the Market and the Fact that he does not realize that Himself makes me sure that there will never be a good Game from him.
Sry but thats my honest Opinion.
Liked. 1)The look of the game and the amount of ammo and weapons to see the game through without a struggle..The achievements popping up in game on completion of objectives just like my fave the xbox.2)The intro movies setting the scene both for the black ops insertion on to the Heckel +Thomas and the exit movie from H+T to Icarus 4 using the escape pod all in flames from entering a planet with atmosphere.3)I liked the atmosphere on board the ship which was spooky when it needed to be and the music was often spot on.It was a bit involved in my first run yesterday but later a new patch meant the game played easier today and a full squad finish was achieved.4) plenty of weapons of all varieties and choice for all types of gamer and better still more than enough ammo for the National Guard. Dislikes could not always understand the value of the foils when explaining where stuff was and then being stopped by the sergeant anyway when looking for it all.The end bit of all the runs was a bit of an obstacle course through maintenance and the maps on board did not match or were not available in the trickiest bits in the darker parts.
Disliked the first run with no hand holding and having to lead senior ranks into battle it always seemed I was expected to be cannon fodder as the point man (We need you upfront?) as well as save the squad when they were in trouble themselves.Loved it today when things improved dramatically with no pod shoot up and a squad that appeared to be able to look after itself.Loved the driving music when the fur balls started to wind up and the change to spooky in other parts all worked well for me.Did not like the 3 differant endings I got . I was told by Asmi on the first one I was going to die .Should have known not to trust her she was the real Phycho in Aftermath one of this devs early games and I forgot until the ending cos this looked like a far cleaner, warmer and brighter ship with the lights up.I also ended with 3 and then 4 squad members later on but those endings seemed the same with the female being an expert comms specialist and they just had to wait for rescue apparantly. The run through on those seemed far less protracted than my first run with the squad improving like those dim wits Clint Eastwood knocked into shape in Heartbreak Ridge?
Abso lutely loved the last two where the dev threw more into the battles against us than before but finding and using an energy shield in the gamegame was great fun, watching the aliens erupt in flames s you could then pick them off already the worse for wear. This was a million miles from his early stuff where you got a severe thrashing as you turned every corner on Aftermath it seemed.Loved watching some of the clowns on Youtube but loved the game more this afternoon where the Dev seemed to right a few wrongs. My first run took about 3 hours with the squad getting lost in most parts of the 6 chapters at one time and eggs popped by the very person saying watch your fire and watch those eggs just seconds before. The 2nd run took about 1 hour .And the deadly pirates seemed to increase in numbers but moved closer as a group which made them susceptible to grenades and shotgun. THe 3rd run was even better with Valenco who was normally dead by then throwing me an advance 22 shot auto shotgun a proper boys toy but even more devastating against the pirates this time through I loved that bit with about a dozen dead pirates sprawled all over the corridor.
This one took about 90 minutes but I ignored the foils and lots of other goodies I had picked up on the just previous run for achievement purposes.Think I have only played over 6 hours to date and still have The
sats. The Onslaughts, and the multiplayer to deal with.Back to the X box soon for me just too much excitement on PC's for me now,can see now why Dad still loves them still though. I think this guy obviously
peed on someones chips in the past as there are a few already I see attacking guys who gave a decent score
.Well attack away Chavs I really enjoyed it but will be back on the Xbox with a different IP soon.
This was the best CDF Ghostship game Shawn has created! Overall, I would give it a 7.5/10. I attempted to keep my crew alive but at the end; I was like screw it. The last level is annoying because I got lost for a while but I made it to the end. I wish there was a map that you could reference on hand which showed you where you were at.
