I went into this not expecting a lot - mainly just got it because I noticed that it was on sale and I remember playing the free game from the same company. And I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Looking past the sexual appeal side of magical girl, seeing how the main character grows to learn what it means to be a hero through his interactions with the ideal magical girl from a different world was certainly an interesting concept. I am yet to get through 100% of the content, but even with the part I have played thus far, it is at least worth the price on the sale.
Disclaimer: I played this in Korean so I cannot speak for the quality of English translation.
Lilili is such a nice girl
For Korean VN with English I can say wow AMAZING VN ^^ Loved it The MC Character or Hero as he calls it tries to Risk his life in Many Ways to Increase his Potential Rate % In order to Harmonize with the Fairy Aco he created They needed to work Together To Fight off The Dark Lord and his Evil Army Of Necro Puppets And Barken as well. Somewhere down the Line he Met Very Beautiful Magical Girl By the Name of Liliche In which she had AMAZING magical Powers And she could do ALOT with them But IN cost of what Little she knew In Term Her very own Life Span Withers away Bit by bit With her Orb Intact Causing it To Expel Energy Mana And convert it into Magical Energy. The more she uses it The More weaker she becomes. Then The Dark Lord himself MC Evil Brother Appeared and he wants Nothing to do with His Younger Brother He cares for only the Core Aco In order to Perfect HIS OWN Hero Suit And Save The world from The Dark Lord weird as it may sound HE HIMSELF is Dark Lord. He can Recreate Anythign he so desires Worlds People Necropuppets You name it. In the end though I had Very Enjoyable Time With this VN and felt it was Good ^^ I def Recc this to Anyone who Loves These Types.
More depth than you might expect.
A fantastic VN with a very high production value. Kinda blown away with the music in it, as there are several theme and ending songs with full vocals and a wide variety of music types.
The story is extremely well done and unique (I have 100+ VNs and nothing even similar to this one), and the voice work is top notch.
The translation is generally good. There are a number of spelling errors, but the tone and flow of the English language translation is good and sounds very natural. Overall; the localization team for English did an excellent job.
My only complaint is that skipping text to complete all of the endings is very tedious, as the skipping feature is stopped every scene change, where the screen fades out and back in, or where the chapter animations are. This is a minor complaint, but it did add significant time to the acquisition of all endings. I recommend saving at every decision branch to facilitate completion of all of the endings.
Also; Litona is adorable and Aco is amazing. I need an altruistic magical girl and sassy A.I. irl asap.
I need to get one thing right out the way - Litona in not a magical girl, but a fighting beauty. She does not go around the neighborhood and help people and stuff.
Art is nice, though MC needs more attention. Even with an okay suit design he just looks bad in comparison with others, but you will not see him often.
The sound is nice too, both music and voice performances are flawless.
The story is a little bit complicated. Every character is consistent and everything is more complicated that may appear at first sight. But at the first third of the game, everybody simply does nothing in a way of active confrontation. This time is spent on character development and interactions but seems odd. I only got the true ending, it was satisfying, but I have no intention of doing 100% w/o walkthrough, so I cannot speak of the entirety of the storyline here. Btw, getting true end here in easy, which is a plague of many modern vns.
Overall, considering the price, I would say it is a 10/10 small visual novel.
Disclamer: I am Korean and so might be unconciously biased toward this game.
This visual novel is ultimately Chuunibyou novel with some alterations to make it distinct enough to avoid being too generic. The protagonist is one who hold pessimistic attitude towards others, like continous murmuring "I don't care anything about those idiots" , and he slowly changes his attitude after he met the heroine, who seems to be geniuely altruistic and even self-sacrificing. The whole plot is about 'what it means to be a true hero' - which he might be able to acheive depending on your choice.
The alteration I mentioned above is that the protagonist himself is a guy with below-average strength and use a hero suit(of course it is in unawaken state at the beginning) as a source of his superpower, unlike many other protagonists in Chuunibyou novel who are born with innate power. Also, the heroine is 'a magical girl', which is suprising scarce in these edgelord story(most heroines in these stories usuallly do have power, but do not wear typical strange and weird costume of 'magical girl'). While these alteration doesn't affect a whole plot a lot(it still falls to be a typical edge story), it does add some flavor to several scenes to maintain interest of player.
Fortunately, since the number of edgelord VNs in Steam is not that large, reading this VN is not that exhausting. Actually, I was still able to enjoy the story even though this story is just another Chuunibyou novel since I haven't read edgelord VNs for a while. Even though its story is only average in the genre, you might be able to enjoy it like myself if you didn't have finished another novel of its kind.
Another selling point of this VN is unique art style and use of various vocal songs. As you see in PV, this VN presents a little different artsyle compared to most other VNs. Of course it falls to each individual person to appreciate this artstyle or not, but I appreciate work of the artist to present different art style. When it come to vocal songs, there are six vocal songs in total whereas more VNs usually have two or three. Althought it might be harder to understand since Korean would be unfamiliar language to most VN players, I think the effort itself is enough to be praised(Althought I might be biased in this aspect since I can understand the song because I am Korean)
Unforunately, I should say this VN also has some shortcomings. First, the translation is just average. While the translation generally conveys the essence of story unharmed, there are some minor grammer mistake and missing spelling. There are several Korean meme expressions that disappears in the translation - and I think some of those removal is unnecessary. Overall, the story unfortuantely had lost some flavor in the procees of translation. While I don't think there is a major gap between two langauge version, I must admit English Verson is a little bit blend compared to original.
Also, the UI is somewhat troublling. The game use the same UI as mobile version, and that is somewhat frustrating in some occusations. For example, the stupidly big menu button in top-right of background would have been unnecessary if the developers have remebered that the menu would be shown with right click, without need of clicking(touching) the actual button. Furthermore, the size of English text in title menu is too small compared to Korean counterpart - The developer shouldn't have decided to use same title UI in both language versons.
Finally, the skip function is really annoying. In this game , you can skip the text by hold Ctrl key or clicking the button which take you to end of the scene. The problem is that there is no auto skip mode. Default auto mode is too slow to function as skip mode, and so you can't turn on skip mode on VNs and watch some news in browsers because both method of skip require you to stay on the game window. It makes playthroughs beyond the first a real pain which make me just look at guide instead of trying out for right combination of choices.
in conclusion, I think the game itself is pretty good since there are not many VNs that shares story genre or art style, thus I decide to recommend the game. However, actually playing the game is somewhat draining because of stupid UI or key mapping choice(This game require you to "drag the mouse" for some function like hiding textbox - wthile you can press simple key like spacebar or 'h' key in most other VNs ). Also, the game is somewhat inconsiderable to English players in the current state, judging from the title design choice and and eye catches with untranslated logo. Thus, you shouldn't buy this game if you found those aspect being too unbearable to play the game. I hope the developers to fix this issue quickly.
