Yeah it's pretty good. Just wanted to see what the amazing creators of Wildmender had made outside of that game.
Fun, fighting game, that's timing based. Hit the buttons at the right time to KO the baddies. Cute graphics as well.
I cannot give bad review because I don't own a controller, on mouse and keyboard is a cute mess.
I spent my childhood watching hamster-fu movies; it was back then I developed a hatred for Chinchillas. I understand this game is just fan service to hamster-fuers but no complaints here.

Very nice game but a controller, like the game states, is highly recommended. With a controller it would be somewhat a skill-based game but if not, it only requires the mouse. Is this a definition of a point-and-click? Or is it just a teensy-bit more advanced than that?
Anyway, I love the graphics, absolutely adorable. Definitely child-friendly, absolutely exhausted-FPS-player-friendly.
Haven't played it too much but I hope that some time later in the game it will offer some more challenge but otherwise, it's a pretty good casual game in my opinion :)
What's more, the price now drops as low as it gets, why not give it a go? Again, not the best game in the world but it's value for money :)
Cute hamster, hamster-fu, an enthralling story, and quality gameplay? I'm sold. 10/10 would suggest you purchase and play.
Controls are bad, specially the Final blow. That Crap just straight up doesn't work at moments to you do some more combos before it decides to work.
its a decent game, however i did have some frustration with the mouse so when i finally took the advice to use controller the game was much easier to complete the actions needed to pass the level. I do wish there was achievements with steam to achieve.. i know there are those within the game but being able to show those off on my steam account would be cool too.
Let’s be real, the name “Hamsterdam” alone puts ‘American in (H)Amsterdam‘ in my head, so thanks for that, I guess.
Hamsterdam is a typical clicky game. Tap the screen, swipe, double tap – it’s one of those instantly gratifying games like Mold On Pizza, Candy Crush, or one of the 101 iterations of Clash Royal. Click, get happy juice in your brain, and move on. Frankly, it just plays like a mobile game and it's almost more difficult to play on a computer than it would be on your phone.
But that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. The graphics are adorable, and there is something so satisfying about a cute hamster beating up bad guys, three at a time, throwing them around face-down.
One of those “I have fifteen minutes to kill and want to do something funny” games. Not binge material to play for hours on end, but nevertheless: fun!
this is a super cute and fun game but really not at all designed for a computer. i will give a thumbs up here as it is actually a good game but get it on your phone, don't do what i did and spend $10 here just to find out that spending $3 at google play was a better decision for this one.
I agree with the other reviews when they talk about the gameplay being simplistic, rhythm based, and QTE focused. If you go in knowing and accepting that, I think you'll have a good impression of the game. Is this game challenging? No, but it's not meant to be! It's meant to be a cute beat-em-up. You're playing a hamster who rides a scooter for goodness' sake. How can you beat that?! There are no Steam cards or Steam achievements. There are in game achievements.

This is a very charming game. I love the character design, especially how bosses look. My problem is with the gameplay. It's very basic and gets very repetitive really quickly. I only finished the first world (Canal) and played a single level of the second world (Red Light) and I have no desire to finish the game, as it's just the same game only with enemies that take more hits to take down. It feels very much like a mobile game.
As a side note, "A controller is highly reccommended." I noticed a typo here, while starting the game.

Anyways, i got interested in the game by the screenshots and premise alone, just seemed like a fun short game about a hamster beating tons of bad guys
And it does fulfill that promise, it's just...this is a mobile game, from the way it's presented to the way the controls are presented and indicated on screen, it's clear this is a mobile game first and everything else second, and as a short burst but fun mobile game?
It's great, i would say it's worth buying it for your tablet or phone even, where you can tap and swipe your screen freely, but for PC and others?
It's not bad, it just feels like it misses some of the impact since the game doesn't feel like it was made with controllers in mind, though a mouse isn't bad, it just requires you to slide with your mouse and click a lot, it works well actually.
As for the game, it's basically a rythm arcade game in a way with some short bonus stages where you have to dodge attacks or just go across a level, i say rythm because to perform perfect attacks, you do have to maintain a certain rythm and have to constantly do different moves as the enemy moves, and to make things more engaging, there are various challenges to do in each level, though i find the Perfect Attack Big Hits(perform 5 Perfect Attacks in a row) challenges to be annoying as the enemies don't stagger when you do them and they constantly move to attack forcing you to counter them and have to start the whole combo from start.
Still, it's a cute game, it is fun looking at your hamster beating everyone, it's just we live in a world where One Finger Death Punch 1 and 2 exist, and while they aren't as cute, both games are a lot more fun and addictive in my opinion, where the challenges feel more fluid and fun to attempt, and unless you really just want to play with a hamster, i can't recommend this game over One Finger Death Punch sadly.
I also think this game works better as a mobile game and was clearly intended as such, and the game doesn't feel as well optimized as it could be, at least with a DS4 Controller, where i tried to press LT+RT for ages in the tutorial like i was told in order to perform the KO attack, but nothing ever happened forcing me to use the mouse, and this is a game that is recommended to play with a controller, not bad by itself since i feel a mouse works much better for this game, but still not something i liked seeing.
Anyways, i am not recommending this game because there are already better games like it on Steam and more appropriate systems to play this game on.

Overall, very fun! Although it is very buggy from what I have played (and it has hamsters, so hell yeah)
I really, really enjoy the aesthetic of the game (especially since I work in Amsterdam), and it's kind of a fun thing to do. But it has very poor controls. It seems obvious that it's a mobile game moved to PC. It clamours for a controller despite me having one plugged in that does most of the actions necessary, but not all of them and it's not obvious which ones. So I end up using the mouse instead. Except for miniboss battles.
At this stage, the game is just a little confused and so I can't recommend it. Perhaps future patches will change that. I really hope so.
You are an extremely cute hamster named Pimm set on a journey to beat up bad guys with your amazing hamster martial arts moves. The game itself is light-hearted, ideal for winding down from dissertation work, which I'm currently doing! I didn't have any problems with controls so far (using mouse).
I got to try out Hamsterdam at EGX Rezzed in April this year, and, after giving it a good go and falling in love with the cute characters and art style, and winning a pin badge after beating a boss without getting hit, my housemate getting the plushie of Pimm, and getting free stickers, I was super excited to be able to play the full game on release. I did enjoy it, but here's my honest list of pros and cons. TLDR at the bottom.
Pros:
- Lovely art style with adorable characters – this was one of the big factors for buying this, for me.
- Enjoyable to play
- GREAT for the price – after seeing it being demo’d at EGX, I would have expected a higher price, so I was very pleased
- Different bosses mix things up a little
- Quick-time events are fun and add a little bit more to each level
- The actual stages move along with the world map, so the backgrounds of each stage correlates to where you’re placed on the map, which I liked.
Cons:
- Gets a little boring when you know what’s coming since the levels are the same throughout, and whilst this makes quick-time events necessary, they also became repetitive – so, in a word, predictable, I suppose
- I wish it was more than just pressing one button for the actual attacks, besides the attacks for KOs and such. Hitting X repeatedly can get very dull - but, on saying that, you do get into a rhythm of playing.
- Levels where you ride on the scooter made me INCREDIBLY dizzy, to the point where I could barely get through one of the mini-bosses and one of the main bosses, especially with my health no higher than a quarter full, so I warn anyone with motion sickness especially.
- A small personal preference, but I don’t like the fact that if you hit A during dialogue, it just skips the entire thing. So, for example, usually in games as text is filling in letter by letter, it auto-fills in the rest of the dialogue when you hit A, and then you hit it again to move on. Hitting a once just skips the entire text box, which was a little annoying - this is just a little thing, but it would have made it better for me to process if the text was static.
Bugs:
- During one of the stages, where an enemy didn’t disappear off screen, meaning I was stuck, unable to get one of the other enemies to move in front to continue. I had to restart the stage. Not a big issue, as it only happened once.
- Also during one of the stages, Pimm froze in mid-air, leaving me vulnerable to every attack. Again, just restarted the stage, and only happened once.
TLDR; Yes, I would recommend, but mostly because I love the style, and you can tell a lot of care and work has gone into this game. However, if the price was any higher, I'd say wait for a sale. Due to the price being REALLY GOOD for what you get, yes, get the game. Definitely.
It's a very good game if you're in to rhythm/timing games, the animations for the attacks are a joy to watch and the extra challenges in each level are achievable but not too easy, definitely would recommend this to anybody.
Edit: Shortly after I posted my original complaint some of the devs of Hamsterdam reached out. (comments below) I gave them specifics with the issues, and four days later a patch went through! The game recognizes the controller and shows the proper icons correlating to the inputs. The only "issue" (though I honestly prefer it) is that the game says to use the joystick for swiping and in the scooter side levels, but it uses the directional pad and the joystick input does nothing.
For the actual GAME. I love it. It's simple but with the different quick time events it keeps it from being boring and button mashy. I'm only 2/3rds of the way through the second area and having a lot of fun. The story isn't life changing, and the game play isn't anything new, but it's cute as HELL. And that's more than enough to keep me playing it.

I can't even comment on other aspects of the game yet, because I've found myself at a stonewall with the controls.
When starting up on PC it says that a controller is highly suggested. I plugged mine in, but at no point so far, during the tutorial levels and in the options there is nothing to actually tell you what buttons do which. The game still explains them as if I'm playing on mobile. This killed my drive so hard so quick. Randomly smashing buttons to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing sucks. I ended up using the mouse, and it seems to be working a bit better than the controller but its still awkward as hell.
I assumed being released on Steam there would actually be instructions on how to play the game on this platform.
Of course I'm going to keep trying to figure it out, but for something I've been anxiously waiting for, I'm very disappointed this was overlooked.
