Game is made by a single person who is very responsive on the forums. Has a lot of good "small indie studio" energy. But it also hides a really decent beat-em-up with plenty of weapons and death animations for enemies. Its a bit rough around the edges, but its worth the price of admission and fun to play with friends co-op!
This game is a must-buy! The great digitized graphics took me back to arcade classics like Mortal Kombat. The gameplay is very fun and detailed. It is a great beat-'em-up brawler with better combat than even Streets of Rage 4. There are some extra modes and gameplay elements, including FPS stages, lots of weapons, and destructible environments. Highly recommend getting this game if you are a fan of beat-'em-ups and action games!
bugs
Simple neanderthal sheriff version.
Visually entertaining.
Game mech abit glichy at times, though could be worse. Donated A docking crate of monkeys and typewriters for their writing department.
Good enough co op to buy on big sale.
end.
GAME PLAY
+ The gore in this game is very inspiring, joyous even. defiantly the most fun parts of this cheese fondue are hacking and splattering!
+ The moves are not bad, still only punch, jump and block but theres also hold move, proximity throw and quarter circles,(+ about 3 other directional moves each) also double tap d-pad to run.
- There moments when you get stuck between bullets, repelling objects and getting up n if timing is against u it can take a whole 1up. (you do have 20 though)
- slow and slightly unresponsive at times.
- During shooting game (with joypad) movement is limited while shooting. some head shots are still countered or on occasion dont react. Bosses can take off 2 consecutive lives. Also even if you are Way over A pick up with cross hair it doesnt work unless you shoot its invisible dam g-spot.
All gunplay lvls need vicious tweaking!
STORY
The story has the mentality of post banquet macaque rhesus monkey and is basically an action glazed donut endorsement for police brutality portraying all in mates as evvvvil psycho Ne'er-do-wells who upon freedom only want to do "Bad Things" whilst wearing skull masks. These guys wouldve fucked right off, most of em were probably in there awaiting trail anyway }:). I for 1 own 7 different types of skull face/head awnings and have only ever been invited to join 3 clueless cult crime syndicates, I find this offensive and unrealistic.
Personally I hate most the characters in this game with 1 exception.

There is a crazy dog that helps you then gets shot (this happens too often to pig dogs used by the boot brigade.) This dog shouldve been the star it was more charismatic than all chars combined and better written dialog, seriously the word criminal was most common word used by everyone. Maybe even up the cop / rob parody take the piss out of all characters more evenly. Avoid the nark sludge?
summery
I Enjoyed the array of moves and lively level fatalities but despite some very cool gibb splatter and afew funny moves, the odd dog team up or kicking dudes off motorbikes, its hit and miss reactionary mechanic, story and lack of more varied or Dog character held it back for me. Though co op is fun to jump on.
if you are considering the shits and giggles get on 80% off
Additional notes.
This game did not work at all at first, checked AV and re-verified ect but dev answered and told us hes updated so i tryd again. seems to work fine now thank you for answering, sign of good company! nice! (Though being from uk Thatcher is a word that doesnt exactly fill me with joy if you know what I mean).

OS: windows 10
g card: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6-Core Processor 3.80 GHz
mem: 16gb
Could be the OS as windows has long been slowing down the tech advancement of all things ever.
P.S.
On a personal note if you were to write the dog in as a full character Iam totally all in!
Apologies for any lack of clarity as this review was edited from pages found at the bottom of A banana strewn docking crate.
There are many "Final Fight" clones out there. Some are good, some are bad. Many titles that have come out are woth playing and we all remember these titles, such as...
Streets Of Rage
Battletoads (Arcade)
Knights Of The Round
Golden Axe
X-Men 6 Player Arcade
The Simpsons (Arcade)
And many more. This is one of those games that's actually good and worth playing.
Graphics
This is an interesting use of digitized graphics. Instead of making cartoon or drawn out characters, they used live action characters and digitized them into the game, both as players, NPC's, objects, explosions, and backgrounds. The animations are smooth and work pretty well for a "Final Fight" clone. Becuase of the graphic nature of this game, it includes graphic gore and violence, great for those of you who hunger for blood and violence. It's interesting that they used "OpenBOR" to program this entire game.
Gameplay
It's your typical "Final Fight" clone. You play as 1 of various characters in the game. You move your character around with the arrow keys and you attack using the attack button (Default is "A" on keyboard) in combination with the jump button (Default is "D" on keyboard) and block button (Default is "F" on keyboard). You can make your character run by pressing FORWARD x2 and holding the direction. While the character is running, you can press the attack button for a running attack. You and also do a quick dodge by pressing UP x2 or DOWN x2 and you will dodge up or down to get out of the way of your enemies. This is especially helpful if you're surrounded by enemies and you need to get some distance.
Along with regular attacks, you can do special commands to do more powerful attacks. Such special attacks include, but not limited to...
DOWN, FORWARD, A = Power Attack 1
FORWARD, DOWN, A = Power Atatck 2
These are just examples. There's more moves to find so experiment with the controls.
As you play, you will notice 2 bars next to your characters icon at the top of the screen. The green bar is your health, while the purple bar is your special. Every time you use one of your special moves mentioned above, this bar gets used up. It will recharge itself slowly, so it's not like you are limited to one time use. Use this to your advantage as you attack your enemies.
One thing to keep in mind is that each character you play has their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as have their own attack styles and special moves. No 2 characters attack the same and no 2 characters have the same special moves. Practice with each one to see which character you might like. (Special report, beating the game unlocks additional characters as well as play as one of the boss characters in the game.)
As you get into the game, you will find items or weapons to pick up. Items include, but not limited to...
apples (Gives you health back)
shotgun (Gives you a shotgun with limited ammo)
knives (Using these will stun the enemies)
molotovs (Although useful, they are dangerous to you as well)
And many more items to find and use. Some of the items come from fallen enemies while others can be found by breaking objects in the game. Be careful, enemies can also pick up these items and use them against you as well.
In between the fighting action scenes, there's also shooting scenes where you use the arrow keys to aim your target on enemies and shoot them with the action ("A") button. Most enemies take 3-5 shots to kill. Be careful not to shoot innocent people. If you can avoid shooting hostages, they will thank you by healing you.
There's also quite a few secrets to find in the game, so play around to find them.
Overall
A very interesting action game using digitized graphics to make a good "Final Fight" clone. This also includes a training mode so you can practice your characters attacks to learn their skills and abilities. You can also use either keyboard or controller. If you need to change the controls, you can configure the settings to use either keyboard or controller and set the controls as you need to.
Solid beat'em up
Pretty good brawler, has tons of variety with characters, weapons and environmental attacks which helps it from being repetitive like many brawlers. The only thing is it lacks a babe character to choose from
I wish there was a Meh score. Not thumbs up, not thumbs down just kinda eh, if you got 5 bucks and its on sale and you want to waste an afternoon ... you could certainly do worse. I got stuck later on in the game where it gives you the opportunity to play a game in the game. You play a space alien with a ray gun attacking Zombies. Anyways, somehow I got stuck in the arcade, Couldn't leave the screen even though there was a hand pointing the way. IDK. I was kinda burnt out by that point anyways.
There needs to be more games like this.
After playing Bad-ass babes, I was waiting for another game to scratch that beat-em-up itch. Then I found the game urban lockdown and the film it was based on, as well as the original version of the game. Not bad for an indie film with pretty much nothing for a budget, which I watched before playing the game which I also enjoyed. There are a couple of neat little things the dev implemented using the BOR engine which I didn't think possible, one of them being the gory zoom-in X-ray mortal kombat fatality-styled finishers that one other reviewer mentioned. Has a surprising amount of polish and playability I wouldn't have expected from the game just giving it a glance on it's own, and to be fair I went in with no expectations. That's all I have to say. Just a neat little (more well-polished version of the original) game based on a pretty good indie action film to boot.
I just stumbled upon this little gem. Then I saw it was from the creators of Bad Ass Babes, Thatcher Productions.
I bought it instantly and got right into the game!! (Yeah. I'm a fan of BAD ASS BABES...get that game next!)
Let it bet known, that I'm a HUGE fan of the beat'em up genre. The likes of the Streets of Rage series and Final Fight reign supreme. Sadly, it seems to be a dying genre. But Thatcher n' crew say NOPE....they're bringing it back in yo' face!!!
It's openly known and credited that the open BOR (Beats of Rage) engine is used for this game. Most beat'em up fans have already played dozens of mods featuring nothing more than ripped sprites/backgrounds/music/EVERYTHING from other games.
It's pretty RARE to see a game with 100% original content. Not only that...these guys have mastered the BOR engine and made it their BITC....ummm their female dog! WooF!
Gameplay: Since it's using the BOR eninge.... you're probably going to need to change your vid settings (full screeen baby) and map the controls to your gamepad. This is an arcade beat'em up so get a game pad ....no keyboards allowed, Poindexter!!! (keyboards will work fine) .
The gameplay is pretty solid! Good beat'em up action. These guys do the most creative things with the BOR engine, stuff I didn't know could be done! There's the zoomed in x-ray gore kills, environment kills, plenty of stuff to destroy or pick up and kill people with, and weapons!!!! OHHHH THE WEAPONS.... so many... AXES, KNIVES, SHOTGUNS, PISTOLS, MACHINE GUNS, MALTOVS...oh my.
I've played the game through, but I doudt I've seen all the gore n' death animations this game has! It's ALOT!! (Like enemies melting from a toxic spill or getting fried from a destroyed power generator... good stuff!!!)
Good, solid action!!!
Oh...and I don't want to spoil anything, but there is a variety of gameplay... and even some meta game play???? Ooooo? Meta game??? A game within' a game??????? You just have to see!
Gamplay score: 7/10
Music: Rockin' music that fits the action... that's about it. Not gonna put it on my playlist, but it fits the game. Pretty rockin' n' metal at times.
Music score: 7/10
Sound Effects: Pretty solid. Just thought the sound effect for when a hit connects with an enemy could use a little more "oomph" instead of "fop". You know when you're punching the shiz out of your enemies, ya just wanna hear more impact, rather than "fip fip fiP". I know... very minor stuff.
Sound Effects Score: 5/10
Graphics: Considering the engine their working with... pretty darn good. All digitized and mostly smooth animations. There are some sequences that could use a few more frames, but it's not going to ruin any fun of the game. Graphics = GOOD!
Graphics Score: 8/10
OVERALL: Just keep in mind, this in an indie game and not one from a "AAA" money-grubbing publisher.
It's good fun! However, if you're expecting a "typical" BOR mod, you'll be suprised!!!! These guys work voodoo magic with BOR.... make it do things it's not even made to do!!!! (yeah... kinda scary!!)
The price is modest and I had a great time!
Overall score: 7/10
FINAL VERDICT: A must have for any beat'em up genre fan. A big thanks to Andrew Thatcher & Crew for keeping the genre alive. You know you have my support!
Urban Lockdown is a very solid old-school beat-em up with digitized (NICE!) graphics (I for one am VERY GLAD to see that back today from some developers!).
It's a nice example of a quality indie game that's worth its asking price.
The game is solid - I did not notice any bug or issues - the graphics, gameplay, production value and presentation are all very good and charmingly old-school. Nice story, style, writing and a good sense of personality. It is a love letter to vintage late 80s/early to mid 90s arcade games. This will take you back to the 90s when everything (well... most things) seemed better than today.
Put Double Dragons, Final Fight, Burning Fight, Mutation Nation, Streets Of Rage in a blender along with Mortal Kombat 1-2-3, Pit Fighter, Revolution X, Lethal Enforcers, Maximum Force etc.. and you get "Urban Lockdown" in style and substance. It's got a very nice mix of beat-up action along with firearms and then you have the pure shooting levels that play like Area 51, Lethal Enforcers, Revolution X, Maximum Force etc...
Definitely worth it for fans of classic arcade games! I will also buy "Bad Ass Babes" from the same developers, Thatcher Productions, as it seems quite good as well.
With reto chic being everywhere these days - be it music, movies or video games - this game is a keeper. As I said above, fans of old-school arcade games will be very pleased.
