Adorable platformer and rhythm game. As you learn notes, the rhythm portion of the game becomes very difficult, but thankfully, that does not block from progressing on the story line.
I'd say it's platformer blended into a rhythm game, you'll pass by some puzzles and well-hidden details along your journey, and there are collectibles worth collecting. A beautiful morale is hidden within their lively and colorful game design, In each song, they'll guide you through the story and emotions, which is very well thought out in many means. This game is for all ages, you can play this game with your child and everybody will enjoy it.
You can't fail each song so the gameplay went smoothly, and you can replay each song again to get a higher mark. It is not difficult to accomplish all of the achievements (takes about 10 hours), as it's not required to S-ranked all of the songs (takes about 20 hours, more or less depending on your skills). And this game has close to no post-game content.
This game doesn't have the option to change the keybinds or calibrate your input like other rhythm games, but their original keybinds are reasonable so it wasn't much of a hassle.
Lastly, if anything I want to forget that I had played this game and re-experience it again, this is more than just a game, it's a masterpiece worth trying,
Songbird Symphony is a cute platform game with some nice designs and a cozy ambiant. I recommend it!!! 💗
Story is charming and character designs are cute. But environment art and design is too simplistic and tileset-ty. Sounds like a family-friendly game and yet, I feel the game might too hard for kids to play even though you cannot fail in this game.
For a rhythm game, lacks quality of life that many rhythm game has. No callibration, can't rebind keys, and bad visual clarities that can't be editted.
There are many songs in the game and the songs are fine. Uniquely, the song are designed to be sing along. But the songs are nothing special compared to other indie games like Everhood or Undertale. I believe it's fair to compare it to them since the songs are the main drawing point of this game.
I recommend at 95% discount but not at full price or even half price. Especially since the game is only 7~ hour-ish long.
bro i haven't this good in ages oh my god AAAAAAAAAAGHHH and the OST isn't PUBLIC crying my eyes out.
Delightful, sweet and simply delightful except for the penguins. Penguin's rhythm can piss right off
A Magical, Moving, Musical Adventure!
Pros:
Charming and simple story
Phenominal musical sequences
Beautiful 2D pixel art
Cons:
A bit predictable at times
Lack of keybinding changes
Sometimes easy to get lost
Have you ever felt lost or alone in a world that just seems too big for you? Or maybe you never got to meet your real parents, and you mope about wishing you could go out and find them? Meet Birb, the amazing little bird who doesn't know who they are or who his parents were. Raised by a peacock, he notices that all of the other peacocks always stare and laugh at him. In order to understand himself more, he embarks on a long journey to discover what kind of bird he is and what happened to his parents.
This game is simply amazing. One of the most magical, awe inspiring indie games I've ever played. It's a simple little puzzle platformer with rhythm game mechanics, and it has some of the best music tracks I've heard in a while. It plays out almost like you're in a musical at times, with the songs all telling a story within Birb's adventure. It's a truly unique experience without anything to make comparisons to. There were plenty of times throughout the journey where I really felt the heart and soul of the developers shine through. The game isn't too long, but it's well worth your time.
Songbird Symphony is a magical tale with a never-before-seen genre combination, and it works flawlessly. If you love stories with heart, quirky humor, or even just the sound of a musical adventure, this is for you. Expect to finish the game in about 5 hours, and even though that's not a long time, it's well worth every penny. This might be one of the best games I've played this year.
Pros:
Art style
Music
Story is heartwarming
Cons:
No map
Cannot rebind controls
Not really a metroidvania, more of a platformer
The annoying sound that plays which ruins the melody when you get a fucking input wrong
Neutral:
The main draw of the game, the rhythm based puzzles/ boss encounters.
Most boss encounters are done well, but others are ridiculously hard with difficulty spikes you don't see coming.
The puzzles are engaging for the first half of the game, but repetitiveness starts to sink in.
Verdict: Even though I did not like some parts of the game, there is enough here to recommend it, just not at full price. If you like rhythm games at all I recommend to get it on sale.
This is one of the most creative games I've ever played. In addition, it's also one of the cutest games I've ever played, in terms of its aesthetic. I highly recommend this game.
While I will echo what people have been saying about the controls (I've only tried on a controller, where it's just way too easy to hit a different direction on the D-pad), I absolutely adored this game. Cute and emotional story mixed with correctly-toned music definitely just ends up making me cry.
Pretty sparse, uninteresting rhythm-adventure game.
This was a very cute game indeed.
The art style was pretty good, and the music was great. I had a bunch of fun playing it.
The story is on the simpler side, although it certainly has its interesting moments, along with a plethora of other ones.
I found it to be quite nice, funny at times, sad at others, overall pretty nice.
The characters too are, for the most part, nice.
Gameplay is a mix of some puzzling along with rhythm battles, each battle a new song and new 'rules', which is nice for variety, but some were definitely better than others, that's for sure. The puzzling is pretty decent, I think, not that there's a ton of it, but what it does have is pretty good.
For the bad, there's some bugs. For example, in the beginning of the game, in the tree area, there's an elevator that you activate, but if you then talk to Dede and Dabson while standing on or next to it, when the elevator goes down, you go down with it, preventing you from being able to know what they say, which is annoying.
Then later on, also on an elevator in the maze section where you need to collect flowers if you walk into a wall while the elevator is going up or, I guess, down as well, you'll clip into it. At least it happened to me with a particularly fast elevator, maybe that's what does it.
Besides the bugs, which are pretty rare, there's the ruleset. Having a different ruleset, every song is nice and all, but some of these were... not great. The flickering notes was annoying, the chef having the notes replaced with all the same fish that are all blue was even more so, but then the penguin one was just awful. I need to keep timing and remember all the notes in the correct order after only seeing it once. I mean, come on, what is that? Maybe a skill issue, but to me it felt more annoying than anything. The only thing that makes this better is the fact that you don't need to ace any song, you could do terribly or, I assume, not even play at all, and it still progresses fine, which is fantastic because otherwise it'd be very annoying.
Overall, a cute and fun game with a nice story, good characters, good art style, and great music. With the rare bug thrown in there that you may or may not encounter.
I just 100% the game (I was about ~2h of the gametime afk) and here is my honest review.
First and MOST important! DO NOT BUY THE GAME WITHOUT DISCOUNT!
Here in Germany the Price is 14,99€ and i bought it for 0,79€!
For the discounted price the game is really good. It has a nice artstyle, an okay story and the overall gameplay is fine.
It is a puzzler with some rhythm elements and every now and then there are some full on rhythm minigames.
The Puzzles are fine, the rhythm part is... okay.
Sadly you cant change any controls nor can you change button-colors for the rhythm part.
So again. For 0,79€ it is a soild game in which you will have fun for a few hours, but for the full price i would rather get a DJMax dlc.
Everybody now:
"A well a everybody's heard about the bird
B-b-b bird, bird, bird, b-bird's the word
A well a bird, bird, bird, the bird is the word
A well a bird, bird, bird, well the bird is the word
A well a bird, bird, bird, b-bird's the word..."
guys come on, its not even 1 euro right now. you are legally obliged to buy this game and play it.
+ a very good story both in content and size
+ cute graphics and animations that are almost always on beat and satisfying
+ the level design is great. you can trigger events that add new elements to the zones main theme
+ the music per se is really catchy. there a many recurring themes which are assigned to specific zones or characters
+ easy to get 100% achievements if you care about that
+ you cant lose the music battles
- the biggest downside has to be the music "battles". many people complain about not being able to reassign the controls, but my biggest complaint has to be the really bad visual clarity. there are so many particles flying around, the placement of the timing indicator distracts badly and is also placed unfortunately and above all the position and pattern of your note indicators change constantly. all these weaknesses make the music battles far harder than they have to be, it really is a game for children after all.
Aside from the music battle inconviences I really enjoyed this game. If you can get into a cozy disney movie-like story and atmosphere, with catchy songs, cool level design and overall cute graphics and animations, this game was made for you plus it costs less than a snickers bar right now lol
Loved this adorable game!
brb
Such an amazing and beautiful game. I love music but i have a hard time getting into rhythm games due to poor coordination, but Songbird Symphony doesn't require you to be that good at it to be able to progress in the game. You can get a good rank if you're good at rhythm games or if you try for a while, or you can just appreciate and nod along to the music and proceed to miss 235 notes. To each their own. The story is absolutely beautiful and the art breathtaking, some of the smoothest pixel animations I've seen. I highly recommend this game.
i loved this game since 2019, definitively one of my favorite rhythm games ever made if not top 1
only problem ive had is because the achievements dont work
Controlls are not very good but my kid like this game its fun for 6 year old.
For 74 cents its good, but there's some things that are simply unacceptable. Mainly the fact YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR CONTROLS. at least not on keyboard. not sure about controller but in game there is no way to change your controls. that is a major con but the games good atleast. nice art , decent lore and okay gameplay. wouldnt say its a metroidvania at all, more like a platformer if anything.
Overall, decent game.
