very fun
Yes, as everyone already mentioned it, it's abandoned.
"Close Call" Achievements is bugged. It won't recognize me surviving the bear 3 times.
Lack of a proper save system and buggy enemies. if you forget to use the games save system and die buy said buggy enemies say goodbye to hours of progress. needs a auto save desperately. also needs to make hideing in grass from the bear work. i can get spotted from across the area even in full cover.
A Serene Yet Engaging Wilderness Adventure
Among Trees is a beautifully crafted survival exploration game that offers a tranquil yet engaging experience. Set in a lush forest teeming with vibrant colors and dynamic weather patterns, this game provides a deeply immersive world that feels alive and inviting.
Visuals and Atmosphere
The first thing that strikes you about Among Trees is its stunning visual design. The art style is minimalist yet rich in detail, with soft pastel hues that create a sense of calm and wonder. Each sunrise paints the sky with delicate oranges and pinks, while dense fog rolls through the forest floor at dawn, adding to the atmosphere. Whether you're watching birds flit between branches or catching fireflies at dusk, every moment feels serene yet purposeful.
Game-play and Exploration
While Among Trees emphasizes relaxation, it also delivers a satisfying layer of challenge. Players start with a modest wooden cabin that can be upgraded to include essential crafting stations, a greenhouse for growing food, and storage space. The game encourages exploration, requiring you to gather resources, fish in crystal-clear lakes, and carefully navigate treacherous environments. Survival elements like managing hunger, warmth, and health add depth without overwhelming the experience.
The game thrives on its ability to balance freedom and structure. You can spend hours simply exploring the environment, finding hidden caches, or mapping out new territories. While there are no enemies in the traditional sense, occasional dangers like wild animals keep you on your toes, adding a touch of suspense to your journey.
Sound and Music
The audio design in Among Trees deserves special mention. The ambient sounds of birdsong, rustling leaves, and distant streams create a meditative quality. The soundtrack is minimal but effective, with soft melodies that enhance the peaceful yet mysterious tone of the game.
Final Thoughts
Among Trees excels in providing a serene yet captivating experience for players seeking relaxation without sacrificing engagement. Its gorgeous visuals, thoughtful survival mechanics, and immersive soundscape combine to create a memorable escape into nature. Whether you're an experienced survival game enthusiast or just someone looking to unwind in a digital forest, Among Trees offers a beautiful and rewarding adventure.
The game is breathtaking. If you like cozy, natural games with wonderful landscapes, you will love it. Yes, the game doesn't offer many game play aspects but if you enjoy peace, you will like the overall mood of the game.
very peaceful
Hmmm ig this is pretty good, vibe game for chilling for a few days. The atmosphere in this game is actually great, i love this quite chill forest with a few places to explore. Craft and house upgrades is also okay, but the con here might be the lack of customization.
Also i didnt like the achievements, they sucks really. Okay maybe everything exclude flora achievement is okay, but wtf is the flora achievement? U actually cant know where u can find specific flowers and other types. Most of them i found accidentaly.
Okay, so i cant recommend this game for people who want to rush all achivements and for people who want the game not ruined by devs, yes they just forgot how to update the game.
IS IT WORTH IT?
Among Trees is an open world survival craft game that launched in 2021. With it’s beautiful art style and calming, atmospheric vibes the game could easily be a cozy adventure to bundle up with on days when you need to unwind. However, underneath the pretty wrapper of the game hass a hollow underbelly that could unfortunately leave a bitter taste in some gamer’s mouths. To decide if the game is worth it for you, let’s talk about Among Trees.
HISTORY
The story of Among Trees starts back in June of 2020 when it was launched as an early access game on steam. During this time there was a lot of hope for the game among the people playing it, in fact it looked to have a wonderful future. The potential for the game was bright as it hosted a beautiful art style, a chill experience, and devs that promised over 6 months worth of updates before the official release. This was, unfortunately, not the future that the game would hold up to. After a year and a half in early access on the Epic Story, Among Trees launched with very little updates to the disappointment of those hoping for its success. Since the launch in 2021, the devs have made no statements about continuing its development. In fact they haven’t made any comments at all, leading the community to deem it abandoned in a half completed state.
Which can, sadly, be felt when playing the game. I am of the opinion that developers do not need to update their games after release. Shipping a finished product on launch day and moving onto other things isn’t inherently bad. That’s why I don’t blame the devs for not updating Among Trees after its official launch. However, that method has two parts. The most important being a Finished Product. Which Among Trees doesn’t seem like. It appears to be more like a chip bag half filled with air, the potential and lure is there but it doesn’t leave you fully satisfied and some will probably leave with a rather bitter taste in their mouth from these unfulfilled promises.
To really understand we do need to talk about the game itself though, and not its history.
GAMEPLAY
I am a sucker for beautifully aesthetic games and Among Trees definitely filled that itch. Plus I love a good survival game. The artstyle and cozy feelings of it ushered me back into the warm feelings that valheim and games like Lost Ember gave me when playing through them. It offered a cute house that, while I couldn’t build it myself, did allow for upgrades like a workshop, kitchen, greenhouse and brewery. It game me chances to take several screenshots that were all gorgeous and it was a chance to try something new. The gameplay overall consists of mostly foraging and exploring the world in order to get these upgrades done and sustain yourself through food and water.
That, however, is pretty much the only thing that the game offers. I played about three hours of the game, upgraded things and explored a little. By the time I had unlocked my workshop, attic, and greenhouse I found that I had lost interest in the game with no interest in going back out for more things to do the brewery. By this time I found that after the beautiful artstyle had been admired that the game felt empty overall since I wasn’t interested in hunting for the steam achievements. One of which was playing for 50 in-game days. Since I’d barely made it to 15 and my interest was already waning, this seemed grueling and unfun. By the time the lure of the beautiful sights wore off on me, the game became mostly a walking simulator between the several drop sites around the map and other places to forage or mine. Which was a very slow, tedious process once the “oh wow how beautiful” feeling wears off.
I didn’t run into any bugs, the game played very smoothly in fact. However, the smooth gameplay didn’t make up for the lack of things to do and something to keep me coming back. After the three hours of playtime, I promptly uninstalled the game because I sadly didn’t see myself going back to it ever again.
WRAP UP
After I had finished playing, I did a bit of searching through the community for Among Trees. Mostly to look into the background and see if my feeling of the game being half-empty was shared with others. Unfortunately, this does seem to be a shared opinion. There were even some that asked about mods that could potentially flesh out the game that the devs had left half finished. What I found out was that the underbelly of the game was done in a way that left a lot of spaghetti coding, which is hard for people to mod into. This means that Among Trees is simply what it is with no additions available to it that would, in my opinion, make it more worth the 15$ price tag.
Now, this isn’t to say that I think that games need to be complex or long or anything like that. I have a review out on a game called Lost Ember. It is an extremely simple game that follows a story, the mechanics are run and change into other animals. It is for all intents and purposes a very simple game that I would highly recommend. The difference in them is that while Lost Ember feels and is a completed game, Among Trees just simply is not and it can be felt.
I like to view games at the very minimum asking: did I get at least one hour for every dollar spent on this game? At roughly three hours of actual gaming, 3 afk on the home screen, and the price tag being fifteen. I can’t say it’s worth the money. Would I maybe pick it up on sale if I were given the chance again? Probably and I’d definitely say if you don’t mind the half-finished state then it may be a very pleasant game for you to try. However, I wouldn’t pick it up at the full price. Its definitely not worth it at 15$.

ORIGINAL REVIEW RIGHT AFTER PLAYING:
Honestly, I was very on the edge about where I would put this game in terms of recommended. The art is beautiful, the music is soothing, and it can maybe entertain you for a handful of hours. However, it sadly lacks a lot in complexity. Not that that is always a bad thing, I've played some simple games that did what they wanted to do well. This unfortunately just didn't have much to it. I wandered around, collected stuff and upgraded my house. I tried some fishing. I uncovered map things. Then I unfortunately lost interest. I had hoped that it would be a cozy game that I'd stick with for a bit longer but it doesn't seem to be the case. If you like fetch quest - collection type cozy games it may be up your alley.
I lost interested quickly as this wasn't my type of game (I played about 3 hours, and spend a few hours afk on the home screen while doing other chores around my house).
I play with no bears, so easy as it comes to navigate. Definitely recommend getting the map (& zoom in on it!), I ran around in circles for a while. Great game, simple, but also interesting with the element of survival and gathering resources.
Had hopes for this game, but abandoned and not worth it. Sad tho.
مرا تطفش فاضيه و يقلك عيش 50 يوم
Okay, as of today I am confident I could give a fair review of this game. The game hasn't been given an update in years at this point, not totally a bad thing, the game is playable. The problem lies in the fact that the game is a bit janky and in some parts could feel unfinished to a certain kind of player. This game is quite relaxing for a survival game and my only issue with it is that the achievement unlocks are a bit janky, not totally unlockable but for some of them you might have to meet the requirements multiple times. In all this game is a relaxing slow burn with good survival mechanics. 7/10, good game for the right player.
amongus
Chill and relaxing. I'm not running for the end, don't care there is no support anymore. Fuck it, it's a nice game and I need a place to decompress without humans to ruin everything.
Less than 2 hours played, not going to play more. Seems like relaxing and cute graphics, but it's a walking simulator that's not worth the money, even on sale. If you have to download a map and find a walkthrough to do anything basic that would be in the first 5 minutes in every other survival crafting exploration game... I wish I had read the other reviews and not bothered. Everyone says the developers abandoned the game, but really they made a demo permanently in early access. Wasted potential, wasted $$.
If you like calm survival games you will like it
fishing is an absolute joke on this game. then they give you a fox pet that requires fish so they make you do it. map too big. nothing to do. not as zen as sen mode promises as you can still starve. pretty but crap game
When I first launched the game I was very impressed with how calming, relaxing and beautiful the game is, I was immediately immersed into the experience and never experienced something like this with a game before. You can expect relatively simple but fun game mechanics and crafting, a reasonable amount of grinding to gather items, large part of the game involves travel so be prepared to spend a lot of time doing that, but hopefully the enjoyable music will help through that!
Tips:
- Look up "Among Trees Map" to save yourself a lot of time looking for stuff (Unless you enjoy exploring)
- Make a tent as soon as you can so you don't need to constantly go back and forth (Find blueprints using the map or exploring)
What could Improve/suggestions:
- The bug where you can't pick up an item if it's in a bush
- The bug where the crates and chests do not respawn (I need seeds!)
- The bug where the sticks in the oven disappear after reload of the game
- The bug where water disappears from the canteen
- An update to maybe add new things like rafts, boats to sail to other islands, a main quest/story line, an option to pet and feed the fox, biomes which have different temperatures and require special clothing to be in (Snow, Desert, Underwater)
Overall I'm really enjoying this game, I definitely slept on it when I first got it, not sure why, but I'm grateful I finally gave it a go!
Looks pretty but the actual gameplay is lackluster. The gameplay consists of running around for 2 hours looking for randomly spawning items in an unnecessarily large empty map while occasionally eating a mushroom you find on the ground. Calling this a "game" would be doing it a favour it doesn't deserve. It is neither difficult, fun, rewarding, calming or interesting in any way. The achievement that makes you play for 50 days is ridiculous and there is not nearly enough content to justify doing this. I have been sitting on my computer for 3 real life days AFKing, eating fish and drinking water when necessary. As of right now im in the final stretch and I am left with a bad taste in my mouth and an overwhelming feeling of regret. Absolute waste of storage, PLEASE don't waste your time or money on this disappointing flop of a "game".
has the potential to be something but what really lost me was the fact that the bears go mach 5 the moment they spot you and it only takes two hits from them to kill you and to make it worse you have to load a previous save every time you die which has to be done manually at the cabin.
Also this game is super abandoned
The game has a lot of potential but sadly it's empty. The starting areas are fun and the exploration is exciting but the more you explore the emptier the game gets. I experienced some bugs that disheartened me as well and the devs don't seem to plan on fixing them so the whole game feels like a waste.
This game has amazing potential to be something great, but sadly the devs abandoned it back in 2021. What they have so far is not bad but it feels like you are only getting MAYBE a quarter of a game and that's it.
9/10! Very fun and casual. A great way to calm down after a long day.
:)
I really wish I could love this game. The aesthetic choice and calm setting is wonderful.... but, for some odd reason, you have EXTREMELY limited space. What kind of survival game where you save up resources only gives you like 20 slots and items only stack to like 5-10? My whole experience is just ruined because it can be difficult (or at least very time consuming) to get said resources. I just don't understand why that would be a thing. I would have refrained from leaving a negative review, but it seems there are absolutely no plans to update this game from the devs. I cannot recommend this, and it pains me to do so.
I'm really enjoying this so far. :)
Visually, it's gorgeous and reminds me a lot of Firewatch. Having a fox friend is a delight. Adding new plants to the journal and sketches of landmarks while exploring is really satisfying. I'm playing on Zen mode so I can't speak to what havoc the bear adds. :') The UI is really slick, too.
I did have to look up a few things (like how to handle the fishing), but there's a wiki and a subreddit for the game, both of which helped. Really glad I finally tried this after picking it up a couple of years ago!
A more polished version of the Long Dark. Do yourself a favor and give it a shot.
triggered my primal fear of bears
Alright, I won't bs you. This game is not worth it for the price. If you want it, buy it when it's on sale. The devs abandoned this project a long time ago, so don't expect any further updates. That all being said, this game is actually pretty good for a open world survival craft. Despite the lack of content, it is very relaxing and effing beautiful. The graphics are the best I've seen in a while along with it's calming music. The map is quite large and mostly empty if you ask me and gets boring after putting in many hours, but I would still give it a chance if there is a sale.
I wish there was a 'meh' option for steam. This game isn't 'horrible'. It's actually very pretty. I probably wont put much more time into it, and if I do, I may change the rating just because I did. However...
The blur will make you motion sick. I get motion sick for a few games, this is one of them.
You can't chop -every- tree, which is annoying. Only -some- trees. Just specific trees.
Having just decided to roam off to live in the wilderness....you come VERY....VERY....unprepared.
Like...you didn't bring a lighter, flint, torch, canteen, an ax....no tools what so ever. NOTHING...
That's probably the most infuriating part about this game. I do understand they want you to craft these things...but I do not feel that is logical. If I leave society to make off into the woods...I will be taking some things with me.
I feel like this game is the most basic of the basic. We are just assuming that the water is pure and I don't need some form of filtration system? Or to boil it?
Maybe I'm putting to much thought into my...survival....game...But IDK.
If you want a simple comfort game, this could be it.
It's very pretty and not much aims to hurt you aside from the bear and perhaps if you let yourself get too hungry or dehydrated.
Again. I wish there was a 'meh' option, because it wasn't horrible...just...kind of annoying when you think of how crazy this very unprepared person was to go off to live in the woods with a backpack and a jacket.
=/
ggg
BROKEN IT WON'T WORK
I loved this game! It's super cozy and fun and challenging. Definitely up my alley
I absolutely adore this game, HOWEVER, the achievements are broken. I love achievement hunting so this very unfortunate. If you don't mind not getting the achievements then I would recommend this game.
I have read that this issue is fixed for some people when they create a new save and do it all over again but I question whether or not it's worth it since there's a chance they stop working again.
this shit
is so ass
PLEASE NOTE: Your gameplay sessions will NOT save, and there are bugs abound.
I saw that this game was recently featured on Steam's front page, and wanted to inform some potential new players before purchasing. This game is rife with developer drama. In fact, it has been abandoned since early 2022, with numerous allegations about theft and scammery surrounding this game. Though perhaps these allegations are a bit embellished, it is an unfortunate reality that the devs abandoned this beautiful project, with little to no compensation. There will be NO bug fixes in the near future, or ever.
It is a pity, as this game, when it was brand new, had so much potential. The game is mostly resolved gameplay-wise and is a really enjoyable experience. The concept behind it, a slow and gradual development of a cabin in the woods, is so satisfying and feels rewarding. Couple that with the INSANELY GORGEOUS colour palette and graphics, it is hard to resist wanting to play it. I was aware of the fact that it was abandoned when I purchased it, but unfortunately, while it is playable, it does not save and will crash frequently, and I wish someone had notified me about that.
I think this game would be tolerable if it weren't for the fact that YOUR GAME WILL NOT BE SAVED.
Again, there will be no development on it for the foreseeable future. I have no ill-will toward the devs, I think it was just a combination of bad planning and misguided morals toward the end. The artists for this game did an incredible job - maybe too incredible of a job - only for a series of unfortunate events to plague the future of the game.
I hope for a future revision of this game, perhaps by another team of developers, as I would greatly love to play it, but for now, it will lie dormant.
You can pet the fox.
Game is abandoned and a lot of emptiness exists here where there is no content to fill the voids. At best, this is just a cozy cabin builder, where you can work up to growing plants to make brews, cooking food to make stews, and having a pet fox.
For a while I used this as a small Zen space, to destress after the work day. The ambiance and art style is phenomenal, but it isn't really worth wasting time on, when you know it is just a shell of what it was supposed to be.
For the price point, definitely not worth it. This is $0.99 at most, not the $18 they are asking, despite the game being abandoned. Steam doesn't even have a means to deal with these things, so why still sell a game that pays developers who longer give a crap about it? It should be available for those who have bought it, but it should be frozen so no one else pays a high price, for nothing. The only price that is fair would be $0.99. There is no added value here.
Really cute and cozy, does require some grinding but I enjoy that. Paper-cartoon style graphics are adorable - all in, I really enjoy playing it. Open-world style survival / crafting.
dead game 10 days after release. Devs are losers
THERES A FOX
Fun, relaxing game I love to play to chill out when stressed. Graphics and art style are gorgeous and gameplay is calming. I appreciate the bear-less mode, my bear phobia would've made this game so much more stressful lol. 9/10 - Would've liked an update for maybe different biomes or plants/animals but honestly it's still a great game!
This game is kinda silly. Who starves to death or dehydrates in less than 24 hours?? This should have been addressed in a patch, but there haven't been any patches....
It's an okay game. Kind of Zen like, just walking around the forest looking for food, and supplies. You can die of starvation, dehydration, or a bear attack. So look out for bears, and stock up on food, sticks to cook with, and make a canteen so you don't have to go down to the river to drink all the time
As much as I enjoy this game most of the time, the bears really ruin the experience. You're meant to avoid them by crouching in tall grass, but the first bear you're likely to encounter in the game will go so close to several patches of grass that you get revealed despite thinking you're hidden. And you have no way to survive a bear attack until you've made a crafting room, although you don't know that so you run around for a while thinking the bleeding will stop. What's worse, sometimes bears will catch onto you a second time, and they can run faster than you, so you're just going to die and can't really stop it.
I love the aesthetic of this game and I enjoy playing it. Just please get rid of the damn bears. Play on Zen mode.
go
Initially i wasn't a fain. I was still in my hardcore survival phase. But a couple years on I'm liking this so far. Very peaceful and pretty game
its calming
The game shows promise, but was abandoned long before it was finished.
It is a beautifull game, with not really much to be explained except for the part that you really need to grind and play fast, dont think to much and run alot back and forth, the only downside is that there are some parts where you get fps drops, or just not enough loot.
Outside of it sometimes some loot does drops but cant be picked up or it just bugs out.
Other than that it is a pretty beautifull game with alot of color blue in it
I would recommend it, it is worth the money,
