A cute pixel art puzzle platform game, with both stealth and parkour elements. Death Fungeon pits you against a deadly prison packed with traps, treacherous terrain and hulking brutish prison guards.
Use your wits, cunning and agility to stay one step ahead of your would be captures. You can take the stealthy approach, progressing slowly, hiding in amongst objects and staying out of the sight of guards. Or utilise your athletic ability to wall jump, grab on to ledges and speed run your way past each challenge.

Bought this when I was a kid. Would have given this a positive review if it had achievements, don't @ me. Feels too empty and even just achievements would have gone a long way.
Death Fungeon is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
This GameMaker Studio Platformer Template copy + paste does feature a mild stealth mechanic (you can hide in pots... yeah that's all folks). But you generally don't use that mechanic anyway. It's very short, time to beat around 1 hour. I guess it's cheap, but you get what you pay for... and really, that's being too kind considering there's completely free games on Steam far better than this with better mechanics, gameplay, graphics and so on. It's not good to advise people to buy something just because it's cheap, because there's better value to be had just about anywhere else.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. The controls and game handling are notably very unpolished and loose here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one.
While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for.
Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is often used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Death Fungeon is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
good pixel game, addictive for a couple of evenings. 10/10
I'm not very far into it yet but its definitely fun to navigate the levels and escape the monsters after you get yourself noticed. It's simple but that doesn't stop it from having satisfying moments. If the price were higher it may be a different story but for this its a fine purchase.
Really Liked so far, simple Stealth Platforming game with amazing Pixel Graphics. Hard to beat for the Price
You're essentially paying for a Nitrome esc flash game, meaning it should probably be free. Do not waste your time.
Even if you are a fan of pixel platformer games, there games that are outright better for the same price, might I recommend "Out There Somewhere" which has proper story and charm.
I think the alliteration of "Death Dungeon" would've sounded better lol
I enjoyed this game enough to recommend it (especially on sale for $0.50), the hiding mechanics were fun to work with. The controls are a little loosey goosey, and that made a few parts pretty rough (seriously, I died about 400 times on one room in the last stage)
this game is SICK, if you consider the price it is a GREAT buy, you will have fun, you will be frustrated, you will smile, you will cry, this game is very very good, just buy it dude, trust me.
A fun little puzzle platform game with beautiful pixel art graphics. Highly recommend for fans of the genre.
This is a fun little game. It took me probably 1.5 hours to beat it the first time. I've since run through it again and gotten all but maybe one "bonus chest".
The controls and concept are simple: Escape! You can run and jump including off of walls. You can also hide in cauldron looking things throughout the levels.
You go room by room. If you die/get caught, you start at the beginning of the current room. There are three themed levels each with their own quirks.
It starts out a bit more puzzly, with a lot of enemies about that you have to avoid. They have a range of states: sleeping > awake > patrolling > looking for you. Sleeping enemies are easy, but you can jump off their belly which will wake them up. There are blocks you may need to push to get stuff done. Dropping them makes noise, which will increase the threat level of all enemies a notch. If you are seen, all enemies are activated and they will start to look around for you (including in the hidey cauldrons) and use any available ladders.
The enemies get phased out a bit for more hazards like spikes, moving platforms, saws etc in the later levels.
The last level turns into a bit of a precision platformer with some pretty tricky jumping required. It's really satisfying to complete some of the rooms that involve a succession of wall jumps, falling platforms, and lots of spikes.
There are chests in some rooms that are optional. You can see how many of the total you've snagged at the end of a level, but other than that, they are just for fun.
My biggest issue with the game is the controls. The hitboxes are blocky, and the game gives you no quarter. You can't seem to jump a second after you've left a platform, wall jumping and ladders can be finicky. Basically, the controls are sufficient, but bare bones. It can be a bit frustrating sometimes (but still a bunch of fun ^_^).
Finally, there is no timer, ability to replay a particular room for practice, or any way to see your progress/records if you want to try and go for a speedrun, no hit run (good luck!), collect all chests run. I completed the game in record time on my second run through and was even able to find some quicker paths through previously long rooms, but the game offers nothing to give you a reason to play again.
I would love a sequel or some DLC, with tightened up controls, and a full suite of speedrun timer and other replayability tools. Perhaps different characters? A level designer?
TLDR: Fun game, well worth the time and money.
Stealth platformer that lives or dies by the responsiveness of its platforming. Unfortunately it feels too lose to be enjoyable and thus we bear witness to another indy fatality.
So simple platformer game, but some puzzles to solve and its hard.
If you like hard platformer, well this is a game you will like.
I do not, but anyway I enjoyed the game and I was pushed by the sense of challenge to finish the game.
It will take you a couple of hours (depends on how many time you will die, and will be a lot) but, considering the small price, it's worth it.
The main problem of the game is how it handles the wall jump, there is not a specific sprite that makes you clear that it's the right moment to press the jump button and this sometimes feels frustrating.
Quick Summary: The game visually looks and feels very polished (for the most part), but gameplay wise it is VERY basic. And even though it is very short it still manages to run out of ideas fast enough to feel repetitive.
100% the game in 75 minutes.
Random Side Notes:
-The enemy AI/behavior is consistent but very unintuitive and annoying IMO
-There are "bonus chests" collectible things. But they serve zero purpose and the only UI indication related to them is a short visual X out of X display at the end of a "world"
-Wall jumping becomes annoying later on in the game because there is a lack of the usual "wall feedback". By that I mean unlike most games that have a wall jump feature, there is no animation difference between your character falling vs falling next to a wall it can jump off of. There is also no kind of friction or wall stickiness.
Death Fungeon starts out as a slow-paced puzzle platformer where you can opt for using stealth or you can alternatively solve several of the levels by revealing yourself to the guards and make a run for it – remember that you can do a wall jump to get over a charging guard. But the real fun of this Fungeon only starts in the final chapter, which is not about puzzling anymore but instead is hardcore platforming were you need good timing and near pixel-perfect coordination to make the jumps, some of which are very difficult. And perhaps there lies the greatest shortcoming of this game as some timed runs are only doable with a few milliseconds to spare, and some walljumps while falling at high speed are very very tricky indeed so the game can get a bit frustrating in a few places. However, it does feel great if you finally beat a particularly difficult room. The game is very short, just 3 chapters of about 20 rooms each, but at the low price you can’t complain about that.
The game has a nice retro style, pretty pixel-style artwork, and a fitting sound track.
I completed the game in a single session. It was great fun. Highly recommended for people who enjoyed Super Meat Boy. Rating 9 out of 10.
Very fun game, I haven't finished though. Challenging levels and simple run, jump, and wall jump mechanics make it a very nice game, also it looks great! I do wish the soundtracks was longer for each stages and that there was a way to skip levels though. The third world is just ridiculously hard for me, but possible. I recommend it, it's a good challenging game.
Though it is everything described by the store description, its highly simplistic. This does fit the price but honestly there are games already that the same thing but better.
1-dimensional, unchallenging, uninteresting platforming, bolted-on stealth that isn't required, 15 second sound loop endlessly.
... I think you get the picture.
I actually quite like this. Legitimately and consistantly retro. Very simplistic, but the old games were. It gave me some feels. It gave me some member berries.
It's a simple platformer with slightly loose controls. There's hardly any "stealth" despite just running and hiding in a bucket occasionally, and even then it's hardly worth the effort of doing so sometimes. If you're looking for a very challenging game, you'll be disappointed, but if you just want something quick and simple to breeze through, this is what you're looking for.
Fun platformer, has some puzzles to solve and its hard! 7/10
