Pretty realistic, after going through a breakup a bit ago and returning back to the game it was very satisfying to continue to hang up on him. 10/10 recommend.
Im definitely not the intended audience for this game, haha. My first impression of Josh, (and OF COURSE his name would be Josh) was "this person sure comes off as an insufferable Pain in the butt." and boy, I could not unplug on this numbnut fast enough.
I get that the couple has history, and you're expected to engage accordingly, but all I could think is "Shiiiiiiii- this poor sleep-deprived healthcare worker has to deal with THIS after a long day at work?? NOPE."
To get the full experience you have to be able to get into Carlee's sunk cost mindset (to be fair, a LOT of people have certainly been there!) and also give a damn about the opinions of Twitter Users, otherwise, you're in for a very short playthrough!
That said, it's an interesting concept that one hopes would provide a reality check to all the Joshes and Carlees out there who might not recognize the bad situation they're in until seeing it paralleled in-game.
I recommend but you must know that this is not a game. There are no choices and it always ends in the same manner. But it quite accurately depicts a toxic relationship with a narcissistic abusive guy. Essentially, this is a phone conversation with a guy and you have to listen to his excessive ego, excuses, insults etc. which are quite interesting and hilarious. No replayability.
This game is spot on. I would recommend it to anyone that is getting into psych. I used to be a cop and all of this sounds like the start of an abusive relationship going forward. Thank you for making this game cause you are calling out all the red flags.

Fucking Josh. Don't give him the satisfaction of crying, be safe, I hope anyone who plays this learns from it.
I started playing this thinking "I'll be that guy that listens to EVERYTHING and gets through everything" but honestly? 30 minutes in and Josh is just. so. damn. annoying. He's just... so easy to hate. And hate with passion. I love it. You really can answer yeah/okay/same/hmm so many times in a row before you just simply... cannot.
The browser has a tab for music and honestly? Great idea, same with Tweeter, and especially with Tractor Dad: Civil War. They definitely help pass the time when you're just trying to hear the guy out... and he talks so much... too much even. To the point where that "block" button just looks too good to be true. An hour in I pressed that button with joy, satisfaction.
I truly love this game, it was worth every cent.
The way Josh talks, it sounded exactly like my toxic ex through a different voice. It was incredibly satisfying and cathartic to just keep hanging up on him.
It's way too short. The game doesn't have much interactive elements. Just straight-up story telling. Agree with other reviewer that it needs at least multiple stories. Or some different narratives.
Even though I don't "recommend" this game with the yes/no feature, then hear me out;
It is definitely a great way to show, how mentally and verbally abusive relationships are and how to handle it. And I do think that it is definitely important to educate people about this issue, and in that way I do recommend this little game.
However very quickly it became more of a tic-tac-toe game while Josh (the abusive boyfriend) calls you "bitch" in your ears... And that is why as a game itself, I cannot recommend it.
I think it is a great way to attempt to put more attention to the topic of abusive relationships, but then again, there is 1 playthrough and then you've seen and heard it all and then it returns to re-loop the dialogue.
Something I would really like to see in this though, is some more perspectives. Like some more storylines. Maybe some other abusive-relationships-stories that you can play out, if that makes sense.
Maybe a storyline where you play as a guy who gets abused from his girlfriend, etc.
Otherwise then it's a maximum of at most 30 minutes of gameplay before it gets repetitive to listen to.
I will give it 10/10 for bringing the issue to the top, but not more than 3/10 for the actual (very limited) gameplay and only one singular storyline.

but actually, Josh was insidious, manipulative. he speaks like a gifted high schooler trying to bullshit their way through an essay, and there were a few times i almost bought that he knew what he was talking about.

Although the game felt like it ended a little abruptly for me and began to repeat itself towards the end of my time with it, upon reflection I found that I appreciated much of what it had to say about relationships. I felt that Josh's voice actor did a wonderful job in portraying a certain type of partner.
Though Josh may not be physically abusive, his pompous demeanor and demeaning comments promise to slowly erode the self-worth of Carlee. In addition, his reference to her time seeing a counselor pathologizes her behavior.
Ending a relationship with such a person requires a dogged assertiveness, and the game reflects this well. Another challenge, however, is withstanding the apology and appeal that inevitably will follow. The game doesn't explore it extensively, but does allude to the way a private conflict can escalate into a public debacle with the inclusion of social media, especially with a vindictive partner.
Game play is exactly as described. You can literally be done with this game within 5 minutes of starting. Choices don't matter at all because it all leads to the same ending. Even if you try to make different choices, the voice over starts repeating the dialect and the answers narrow to one choice just to lead you to the one ending. I guess I didnt think the description would be so literal. Eh.. My fault. I still don't recommend, though.
I was intrigued by the premise of the game and read also that 20% of the proceeds go to Atira, so I bought it! I wasn’t expecting to feel such an emotional response, but that’s exactly what happened. It’s stayed with me after playing the game, as it’s so thought provoking. Overall, I’m really happy I experienced it.
I absolutely love this game. I really enjoy the way the charecters seem fleshed out, and how the game made me feel so strongly about a character in such a short time span. Honestly this game is very worth the money spent on it even if just to use it as a fancy tic-tac-toe simulator. 10/10 wish there were more games like it
I paid $5 to be emotionally abused by an imaginary guy. And it was so realistic I had to pause once in the middle and take a breath. I wish it was longer but at the same time I'm glad it's over, which is also how the poor protagonist must feel.
This game will take you on a journey.
You play as Carlee, a woman who's in a relationship with a man named Josh.
He calls you at midnight and talks about HIS day, how HE is frustrated and how HE feels. Throughout the game he doesn't pay attention to you, unless it's because you act out in his eyes or criticise him.
It's now your job to see how long you can stand being around Josh or if you should just move on.
I personally loved the game and can relate to it, so can a lot of other people. We must share our stories and we must spread awareness.
I've seen people complain about the price of the game, but please remember that 20 percent of the games proceeds will be donated to Atira Women's Resource Society. The game gives to a good cause.

This such a great depiction of a toxic relationship. At first, Josh doesn't seem so bad. He's had a bad day, he's venting. We've all been there. Then comes the small insults, controlling behavior, and showing he doesn't even care about you.
Some of the dialog tree doesn't quite match up, and if you keep going long enough, you end up in a loop of "I don't want to talk about X anymore, let's talk about Y." Then on to Z, and back to X.
I also noticed some inconsistant volume of the dialog. Some in Josh's bits, most obviously between Josh and the much quieter various ending messages.
Overall, short but sweet(?), and thought provoking.
i dont know if its just me, but i did not seem to enjoy it, because it seemed too short, even the free to play game, emily is away was longer and better and more touchy, its probably just me and i missed a lot, but ye men.
