I love it despite not having any childhood nostalgia for retro games like this.
The gameplay is engaging and the art as well as the music really tie everything together into an athmospheric charming and fun game.

Fun retro-style oregon trail in space. There are a couple re-occurring bugs that force me to quit and reload occasionally, but it's not too big of an annoyance. The FPS and combat are very basic, but the simplicity also keeps the pace quick and light.
If you like FTL, Out There, etc, this has a similar vibe.

The art is charming, but the gameplay is... well, pretty boring.

It's just random chance what happens to you, and it's up to what stuff you bought before that whether or not you can deal with the stuff that happens to you. Yay?

One random encounter was some pirates, which put me into a fight reminiscent of the original Wing Commander, which was unexpected and delightful. But, I mean, why bother with the rest of the gameplay mechanism of "random bull**** happened, hope you were prepared" when you have that? And apparently there are first person shooter sections, though I didn't hit any.

Don't bury the good bits of your game in boring, stupid filler!

Hyperspace delivery service is a fairly charming take on oregon trail meets star trek with a rougelike option to keep it interesting. It's fairly bare-bones and designed to be played through in one sitting or a few short sittings (I think this would do good on mobile). It's almost too bare-bones come to think of it, it could've benefited by a few extra systems in the gameplay of it, perhaps a ship upgrade system that forces you to choose between uses for your repair parts or the like. Either way though for the low price that it is, i'd say it's worth it.

tl;dr: Just. One. More. Planet.

As many others have written already, Hyperspace Delivery Service could most easily be described as Oregon Trail in space with extras.
These extras are little gameplay sections in which you do much more than just click some numbers to do trade/refuel/etc. Repairing is a mini-game, there is Wolfenstein-like shooter for certain missions, you directly fly your ship when fighting pirates or evading space debris, and many events are little adventures of their own.

If it was really just dry section and some text popups (as Oregon Trail mostly was), I'd find the game to be rather boring. But with all the additions, it keeps you playing for longer sessions as you always want to do one more planet ;)

From the time I played, I found that the concept works well and always keeps you very low on resources so that you really have to plan ahead and use every opportunity.
However, even then, a few bad events in a row might as well ruin your run, which might end up more frustrating than necessary.

This isn't a game for everyone, but it is well done, and the graphics and cute animations are just charming.

+1 for working nicely under Linux, too.

HINT: Do not take on passengers. Except when they pay really, really well (artifacts or many expensive goods). In almost all cases, they will damage your ship, kill a crew member, steal something, etc. I must have had over 10 passengers, one or two of them did not cause trouble. Not worth it.

It is a lot like Oregon Trail in space (which is a good thing), though really just in the basic concept, not in the particular mechanics. You have a destination to reach and a series of stops along the way to try and get the supplies you need. That supply management is pretty complex. There are multiple resources that you always need to travel, and a bunch of others that you'll need to solve problems along the way. Prices and availability differ at every stop you make, so you have to weigh the cost of stocking up now vs. later, or whether's it's worth taking risks for supplies instead of purchasing them.

The game is relaxing. There is plenty to do and think through at any stop, but no time pressure. The sound effects are excellent: retro but pleasant. Your ship beeps and hums while your crew works at their stations and you review trade data. The mini-games are simple and fun, but they also tie into the resource management. I haven't played for very long yet, but there seems to be a lot of variety to the activities and events at planets and while travelling. Some of them require you to make choices or fight off pirates, others just add some Star Trekkian flavor to the universe.

The space combat and the cut scenes both give me a strong Wing Commander vibe, though this game looks a lot better than the original WC.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

This is basically a sci-fi Oregon Trail. Your ship is tasked with delivering a parcel to the most remote planet in the galaxy. You'll stop at 20-ish planets along the way, while surviving random encounters and events. During the journey, you'll have to juggle the health of your crew and ship, maintain supplies and earn enough credits to meet immediate expenses.

The game isn't particularly deep. Judging from my current pace, you can complete a run in a few evenings. If you're looking for bite-sized fun, though, then this is great. There are quick mini-games that you can complete during the journey to breakup the gameplay.

The game has an awesome cheesy retro feel to it, and reminds me of other sci-fi games from the 80s and 90s like Sundog, Space Quest and Star Control. If you enjoyed any of those games, you'll feel right at home with this game.

Very much worth the asking price. The graphics are a very nice mix of retro styles, sort of like DOS mixed with SNES and really sell the mood of the game along with the soundtrack.
Plays like a crossover of Organ Trail (or perhaps more fittingly its sci fi hommage Orion Trail) and Bunker Punks.
Each segment is rather simple but the game does a good job of tying everything together and its surprisingly immersive considering the retro look. Seems like this game is a labour of love, all the sprites and backgrounds look great and it really feels like an old game with modern controls.
In the future i would hope to see even more depth added, as i feel in its current state the game will get boring after a few playthroughs, maybe mod support would be the answer to that problem. For under 9 Euro and Early Access this is already a product I'm satisfied with though as the base game works well already.

I took a chance with this title. But. Just wow. There is a ton of feel to games of the early 90s here. A good cross section of resource management, early 90s fps and a definite nod to games like Wing Commander. The soundtrack really ties it all together (Hey Zotnip, can I get a copy of that?) and the cutscenes were so, so familiar in feel.

This isn't a full blown 100 hour game but if you were a fan of early 90s games, play this. Even for a few hours it is worth the nostalgia. Can't wait to progress further into the universe.

Just bought it, first little bit in and I am already hooked. WOW. Like others have said this reminds me of early DOS space games, like the original "Master of Orion" and it's art and gameplay that drew me in way back in 1993 on my old 386. The game music is awesome, please make the soundtrack available as a DLC! I love it. In the world of too much eye candy with games today, this hits the spot for some good old nostalgia and classic game feel. Well Done! Keep it up!

Hyperspace Delivery Service will take you on an epic journey through space, and not only that, but also on a journey through the gaming of the 90's! It combines various elements of Oregon Trail and the first 3D FPS and space combat games.

Very early access in terms of content, but the framework is there. Oregon Trail style travel with random events. Some are text events, some are playable space fights, and others are early 90s FPS levels. No real enemy variety yet, not very diverse missions, but with some additions I think this game is going to be something great.

SUMMARY: A must-buy retro space roguelike adventure composed of multiple retro minigames - from simple puzzles to FPS to space battles. Not only clever in its old-school approach, but a grand example of minimalism of gameplay AND combining different games together. The result is fun, surprisingly deep, and smart. Plus the dev is responsive to adding new ideas. Perfect for fans of retrogames, the DOS era, and survival adventures.

Hyperspace Delivery Service is a DOS game that never was. Hearkening back to the times when game developers realized you could merge genres together, it takes the idea all the way to give you a Roguelike space adventure that feels like an actual adventure - one moment you're trading with aliens, next moment battling pirates, and then you ram through a space warp to speed your journey.

Your goal is to cross the galaxy to make a delivery of valuable cargo. On the way you'll trade, take missions, manage supplies and crew, battle, and try to survive. Who said space delivery is easy?

The game consists of multiple minigames including:
* Basic trading and buying and selling of supplies.
* Acquiring Intel so you can plan your route and expenses.
* Seeking out supplies, balancing risk, reward, and different planetary conditions from atmospheric oxygen to finding a bar to relax in.
* Taking various missions and jobs, some of which lead to other minigames, others requiring you to make assorted choices to balance results.
* FPS ground combat - where each crew member has different traits.
* FPS space exploration and combat.
* Twitch repair minigames.
* Resource management of fuel, oxygen, food, and more.
* Randomized trades with various aliens.
* Taking on passengers - which may lead to some special events and choices.
* Hauling cargo - which also has its own complications.
* Managing random events in space travel, from making simple choices, to entering other minigames. Some even have CYOA choices requiring you to think over your options.

All of this is wrapped up in a game that has both a retro theme and a sense of atmosphere. Classic beeps and boops abound. There's actual backstory to many of the planets, events, and concepts that you find talking to people. Background graphics enhance inventory and management screens, giving you a sense of being in a ship.

These elements combine to give you a grand space adventure, while also being easy to pick up and play. It's easily accessible because of the simplicity, and then the interactions between the simple parts lead to complex decisions and chains of events. There's a depth to plum here, without being overwhelmed.

As a person that remembers the era this represents, I can say they've nailed the feel and the fun. Even if you're not a person from the DOS era, but want a retro spin and/or a game that's challenging without being hypercomplex, it may be for you.

On top of all of this, the dev is one of the most responsive I've ever seen. They listen to bug reports and ideas, they submit feedback, they recognize contributors, they really care and communicate. The dev cares.

Who is this for:
* Well if you loved the DOS era and the experimental genre-fusing, this is for you.
* If you like a retrogame feel, this is definitely for you.
* If you like space advenutre games and want something simpler but challenging for a change over giant spreadsheets and 3D graphics, give it a look.
* This is a great gift for anyone fitting the above categories.
* If you want to support a dedicated indie dev.

I love it!!!
Worthy of many classic games from Wolfenstien to other early computer games, but powered by a modern computer.

Kind of "The Oregon Trail in Space" but with cool mini games and tips of the hats to various scifi shows, notably Star Trek but not limited by such.

I'd give this 8 out of 10 but Indie gets +1 bonus.

Edit - had mouse issue - developer fixed it overnight! Added 1 to score after testing.

IMO expand - as promised - to add more characters, planets, content and it'll be a true 9 or 10 indie gem for low price/nostalgia gaming with difficulty from casual to challenging.
