not gud
1/10
The controls are awful. It's hard to control the character properly.
This game doesn't look bad, it looks sort of artistic. Although some areas feel loveless designed and due to the big lack of accurate control over your character, I can not recommend this game.
Garbage
The art style is great, but the controls are too loose for a platformer. This leads to more frustration than fun.
Furthermore, after starting new games over and over and over in my attempt to get the final achievement, I finally managed to beat the whole game without dying, and it did not award the achievement.
Tip: Hold the space bar down to prolong jumps, but if there are two or more firefly batches in a row, release the jump button before hitting the second batch or you'll lose your double jump and die.
Edit: I eventually made another successful run without dying, and I did get the final achievement. Before my successful run, I completely quit the game then reopened it instead of simply selecting New Game from the main menu like I'd been doing before. I don't know if this is what made the difference or not.
This is so bad that even at less than a quid it's taking the piss expecting anyone to pay for it.
Playing it, it's like they crossed Goat Simulator, or Getting Over It With Benedict Foddy, with Inside. Like, what a side scrolling platformer / puzzler needs is physics that don't obey the rules of physics, and awful controls, to make an amazing example of the genre.
Want to get up over that vertical climb? keep hammering the jump button as you connect with it, until the collision detection eventually pushes you up and over it. Which, btw, wasn't spamming it to get to a place they didn't intend for you to go, but was actually just what you had to do to go where they intended.
For some bizarre reason you fly around when pressing jump on a swarm of fireflies, and again, this is intentional to make progress. I'm pretty sure they just looked at what was wrong with their programming, and said "alright....lets own our mistakes...by making them gameplay features"
I've "played" it (such as the "gameplay" is) for less than an hour, and in that time it feels like I've glitched or spammed my way around the level. Where the biggest enemy to any progress was the awful jumping, then closely followed by rubbish design, and finished off by getting stuck with no clue where to go, or much inclination to find out.
This is basically a crappy demo project that expects you to pay for the priviledge of witnessing their first steps into game development. It's only merit as a purchase is getting to sneer at the pathetic efforts of the people who made it, and even then they get the last laugh because you wasted your money to do so.
I played less than a half hour, but I also payed less than a buck. It's worth the pennies. If I was more into speed running platformers, I'd probably sink a dozen or so hours trying to break 20 minutes. These kind of games are almost always overlooked.
This game does not list key commands, the interface for settings does not indicate which selection you just made and the music is repetitive and becomes tiresome. A half baked product.
Thumbs up for the devs for making this cool little sidescroller. Controls and timing take a bit of getting used to, but the game is easy to navigate once you get used to it. The environment looks great throughout, bright and lush descending to dim and barren, with a primary melody that adds to the melancholy and eerie tone of the game. Overall, a great first offering by this group .
Controls are more than frustrating.
hard to play sorry
Alone
Gameplay
The visual style is a similiar to INSIDE, although less detailed.
It's definitely far more 'janky' - the controls and handling of the puzzles/obsacles isn't the best sometimes.
Grabbing a ladder or reaching a platform will often not go as you think and you will die. Argghhh.
Most of the puzzles/ obstacles are fun and easy to figure out.
Checkpoints are very generious and it should take 30-40 min to finish.
If you want to get all the achievements a bit longer. A friend and me made a guide for that purpose. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1432649940

Summary
For 1$ you can't really go wrong with this. It's fun & a bit challenging.
Do it for the achievements. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
All in all Alone is an intriguing Limbo-esque platformer with some unique mechanics. The environment is eerie and the music helps to set the mood (at least initially; it gets a bit redundant after a while).
My major complaint concerns the mechanics of the game. Jumping, climbing ladders, pushing boxes, and bouncing on fireflies (you'll see) are the major activities you'll be performing and none of them feel as intuitive as they should in a basic platformer. Jumping is not a precise as I would like and forward momentum often carries you well over your goal. On the other hand, many double jumps that rely on fireflies are spaced to the point that there is no margin for error. I never felt like I actually mastered the jumping. I just kept trying until I got lucky. Particularly in a platformer, jumping is a vital piece of the game's mechanics. Ladders are a little clunky, but it's really just the jumping off of them that's difficult for the same reasons previously mentioned. Boxes are a little too susceptible to pushing and more than once a collision with a rock made the box propel me into the air only to meet an abrupt death against the ground. Some more prompts would also be helpful as I only received one and while I'm normally a fan of trial and error, double-jumping off of fireflies is not a thing I can do in real life and I would not have thought about trying it if I hadn't stumbled onto it.
The good news is that the game is short enough and the checkpoints frequent enough that the mechanics don't get too frustrating. The price is also low enough that I don't feel cheated out of money. Despite my complaints, I did enjoy the game and I would love to see some more polish and gameplay. I would definitely be interested in a more refined version and would pay more to play it: as long as the content was there. Good job overall. I hope to see more in the future.
Hey, you have made a cool lil game. The music was fun, it created a good vibe. Controlls took a while to figure out, with the ladders and crawling, (played with keyboard). Game took trial and error to figure out, seemed abit unfair at some times, but in general i liked it. Must have died like 40 times in the end bit before figuring it out. :) Good job. Keep it up. :)
Short but still pretty fun.
Plays like INSIDE.
Priced well at less and $1 USD.
Could use some extra music.
