good gume
Game's Free, and worth your time. I see no harm playing it, unless you're not a fan of hardcore difficulty.
one of the best game ive ever played
9.8/10
If you care about your mental health don't play this. On top of losing my mind now I also have sore fingers. This is f''ken horrible game. I LOVE THIS.
But seriously:
+addictive
+good music
+funny sound effects
+introduces different game-elements clearly even without text/speech
-short
+&- Learning curve is steep. It's both good and bad. For so short game it would be even shorter if the enemies don't get more agressive fast etc. But it might get frustrating.
Okay, I have mixed feelings about Hellcat. On the one hand basic gameplay is pretty good as Hellcat is very responsive to input and the various guns all have their (dis)advantages that you can put to good use depending on the type(s) of enemies you're dealing with in a particular level. On the other hand, I think that a 1-hit-death mechanic is not optimal - it very strongly encourages playing save and just spraying the enemies with bullets from afar. I think it would have worked better if Hellcat would be able to take 2 hits before dying, and perhaps add a way to regenerate some health for instance by collecting power-ups. Some enemies are able to take literally dozens of hits before dying, which feels unfair and a cheap solution to make the levels last longer. Another improvement might be adding a tunable difficulty setting (just like for instance in Overwhelm) were for instance you can turn down the speed of the enemy bullets so that you might actually be able to dodge them.
Another drawback is that it is a short game, it took me 3 hours to finish the game and strangely enough the ‘grandboss’ level was not the most difficult either (just corner him with the help of your assistant). Some of the middle levels actually gave me most difficulties. It would probably be easy enough for the dev to add a few more levels to lengthen gameplay. The level design is also not very imaginative – it is simply a maze with a few types of enemies in it, no traps, no rotating buzzsaws, no lasers, no buttons to push, no hidden areas, etc. One type of enemy actually farts when it dies (how old is the dev anyways...?!?) And I would have liked it if there was a level select in the menu to go back to previous levels, now you can only 'continue' or 'start a new game' (which doesn't ask for a confirmation). A timer and bullet counter would also be great additions and the game should remember your timing / bullet score for each level and put them on leaderboards of course! This game has a lot of potential because the basic gameplay is fun, but the game feels a little unfinished. I hope to see some updates in the future.
Although the game is not perfect, it is very reasonably prized and certainly has some replay potential. I rate it a 7 out of 10.
You will find many reasons to stop playing this game because of your rage. It has greatly helped my creativity.
Overall - 62/100
Easy-to-pick-up gameplay (and addition of a cat!) somehow manage to make this ultra-difficult 2D shoot-em-up fun, even if that isn't generally your genre. Definitely worth a buck or two.
Playing as a cat - 20/20
Yes.
Acting like a cat - 2/20
After the first ten seconds, I completely forgot I was playing as a cat. The uncatlike gameplay and low-res graphics really don't give you much to go on. A few bonus points because the melee attack involves swiping with your cat paw.
Adorableness Level - 10/20
It's cute enough - your cat is wearing a scarf!
Polish - 15/20
The pixel graphics are very simple, but the game is smooth and I didn't encounter any problems.
FUN! - 15/20
This game is surprisingly fun for how simple it is. I'm not super into ultra-difficult games, and so this game eventually bested me, but if that's your cup of tea--go for it! Each level is independent, and since you only have 1 hit point at any given time, you really get a sense of accomplishment for passing each one.
A neat little game with nice music. A not too hard bullet hell which lasts one or a few hours. I would recommend waiting for a sale.
This great, but not fun if you playing too long
Get this game. The controls are quite good and it's just a wonderfully difficult game
Fun little game with a killer kitty :3
Fun little game for the price.
I'm pretty simple, if I see a game with a cat in it, I buy, so I didn't realize when I bought Hellcat that it was released this month! And I also didn't realize it was a Russian game translated to English and only had one English review lol. I figured with that considered, I would write a review for other users considering to buy the title, since there isn't a lot of information given. I have played through the entire game, and played through level 1-7 four times. I have all of the achievements. There is ten levels overall, the first seven are solo, then a boss battle, then two levels were you must control both the Hellcat and his girlfriend, and then the end transitions into a fight against the GrandBoss. This game is very, very fastpaced and brutal. One hit will auto kill you, and there is no checkpoints, so players will go back to the very beginning of the level to try again.
You play as a cat who's girlfriend was stolen by demon-soot sprite looking creatures. who are also destroying the world coincidentally. You adventure through all the minions and berserkers (the enemies with red eyes), killing everything in sight on the quest to save your girlfriend. You'll quickly learn to hate the minions with guns, who I called "Gun Bastards" throughout the game, and once you learn how to destroy hordes of them chasing you down with ease, you'll learn to hate the berserkers, which are just Gun Bastards on steroids, as they now have red eyes and what looks like crossbows. Berserkers, unlike all other enemies that go down with one blast, take several to go down and will be the biggest challenge in the way of later levels.
I don't know how Hellcat does it, but these enemies will literally wall camp you. I have seen berserkers and Gun Bastards watching my every move and either kamikazing towards me to try to end both of our lives, or trying to finesse me and trick me into their wall camping spot. You'll learn quickly to door and wall camp them in return, mowing hordes of them down in seconds as they to kamikaze you. Some lone survivor also will somehow catch on to your prime real estate spot of mass killing, and will try to run around the other way and assassinate you from the side you're not watching. I have also seen Berserkers wall camp and try to shoot me dead from screens away, they have some Deadshot ability where they can see you from anywhere and attempt to shoot your ass down before you even get to the part of the level they're at. The bosses were somehow easier than the regular enemies, and I had a lot of fun controlling both the Hellcat and his gf and destroying the bosses.
My only complaints would be that once you've started a game, you can accidentally reset your file. "Start" means START OVER FROM LEVEL ONE EVEN IF YOU HAVE A SAVE FILE. You have to hit "Continue" for your save file, start will always cause the entire game to start over and there is no warning or way to undo this, going back into the game and going to continue will just cause you to continue in level one. So, don't be like me and forget this FOUR times and have to redo the entire game back up to level 7, only to forget again next time I launch the game and repeat the same thing. I think the game should either have a warning of "Are you sure you want to start the game?" or have multiple save files so when you hit start, you're taken to "Continue" or "New File". Would have saved me a lot of time, as I spent 5 hours on this game and can't accurately tell anyone how long the game really is if you don't have to restart four times lol. My other complaint would be that the music is really, really loud, but thankfully you can adjust this is settings and the game is somehow even better without any music at all, as being able to hear the firing of the crossbows and guns really helps.
I would recommend Hellcat to anyone who enjoys difficult pixel games, or to anyone who isn't use to using keyboards to game. I know I previously talked about how brutal the game is, but because it's so fastpaced and progressively gets harder, you learn to hold the mouse down and spam WASD keys to jet around rather quickly. So if you or someone you know isn't familiar with basic keyboard keys in games or isn't good at using keyboard and mouse buttons at the same time, this game is SO good for teaching it. By level 4 anyone would be a pro at it. If this game was more polished or longer, I think it would be worth even more than what the devs are currently asking. As it stands now, Hellcat is priced fairly.
Update months later: This game has gone through many changes and updates, and I decided to replay through the game again and adjust my review. The look of the game is definitely different than when I originally played which I suppose is a good thing, they added more options into the menu screen, and the game seems to have a bit of nerf from the original but don't worry, definitely still brutal and you still die in one shot. I had a much easier time going through the updated game, though that could be for other factors. Oh, and they added in even more levels ! They also changed being able to select whatever gun you want from a large list, which I think is a setback, but overall doesn't really matter. There is now narration with every level, which gives a minor story. I'm glad the devs still care for this game and give it continual updates and I'm glad I was able to see Hellcat throughout all of its stages. Still a big thumbs up, check the game out already !

HellCat is a brutally challenging, fast-paced, top-down shooter, that for the most part is well-designed and fun to play, and I can easily recommend at this price point.
The gameplay is pretty simplistic, you can pick up guns, throw guns (and yes it hurts enemies), use a melee attack if you have no gun, and you can shoot guns, if you get hit once you are dead and restart. I would definitely suggest changing it so that you automatically pick up a gun you run over if you don't currently have one, that would make the throwing mechanic feel a lot better and be more overall usable.
Although the game is not without its issues, the difficulty is not always what I would call well-designed, after a few levels you face a boss, and it is both challenging and not challenging in the slightest because it's a twitchy and glitchy mess, it moves about in a small environment with lots of walls and obstacles and moves almost only by dashing with enough distance that it hits a wall and then often just gets itself stuck in a small space dashing into one wall after another while you shoot through some tiny gap, when it's not getting itself stuck between a rock and a hard place, it's just a bit of a mess to fight as it's constant dashing through an environment laden with so many obstacles makes shooting it a pain, although that would be fine as you could slowly whittle it down if it didn't start very quickly regenerating health after you get it below a certain point as well as spawning minions equal to the full capacity of the nine-hells.
After you beat the boss you transition to levels where you control yourself and another cat companion, you control both with the same buttons, except that the companion travels slower and it becomes almost a puzzle game to position yourself in such a way that you and the companion can maneuver around obstacles and hit the next level portion together. I get what they are going for, it certainly provides an interesting mechanic, though it's current implementation is frustrating, I'm not sure how you would get around that given the design they are going for, but some polish at the very least is needed as it certainly has the potential to be a super interesting and unique mechanic for such a game.
Overall a fun and challenging game that's definitely worth the price whether anything gets changed/polished or not.
