Do you want a game where no two playthroughs are ever the same? With literally hundreds of weapons and build options every run, plus several DLCs and many biomes added, this game will keep you coming back for hundreds of hours trying to defeat the escalating difficulties with it's addicting combat, slick pixel graphics, and awesome soundtrack
10/10 would get skill-checked again.
undoubtedly the best indie game there is with countless hours of gameplay
you can also play the game on mobile, but steam deck would be the best!
I didn't really like this game when I first played it but when I came back like a year later I realised that this game is true peak and for some reason im not playing it
Crisp controls, simple but deep mechanics, great variety, great difficulty progression - Dead Cells is one of the biggest names in the genre for a reason. One of the most fast-paced and aggressive roguelikes I have played, which is my preferred style.
FWIW this is one of the most punishing roguelikes I have played - mess up one two-second fight and you just die and have to go back to the start. This is brutal for a game with runs that last about an hour. It makes the highs higher (getting true ending was one of my most satisfying roguelike experiences) but of course the lows are low and it *can* start to feel bad if you find that you keep dying on a particular difficulty.
There are some strategic elements to the game that aren't obvious or pointed out by the game, so if you're getting really into the game, be sure to check out the r/deadcells subreddit's pinned post for a spoiler-free guide. Highly recommend as long as you are willing to die a LOT.
Used to play this constantly on xbox, and its still the best roguelike ive ever seen.
In theory I shouldn't like this game. I am a fan of metroidvanias but I mostly play rpgs and other story focused games. I'm fairly completionist but get frustrated and bored by games that are too grindy or repetetive. Having to start over from the beginning every time you die didn't sound like a fun time to me.
But this is a really fun game! The levels change enough from run to run to not get boring, there are so many different weapons that require their own play style and the game is clearly made by people who love the genre. Parts of it are hard but it never feels unfair or like it's trying to punish you as a player.
very fun expect to die a lot; just wish they would continue to update the game
It's a very good game but also i FUCKING HATE THIS GAME SO FUCKING MUCH LIKE GOD DAMN this game mekes me want to hurt someone
So good it makes me want to actually go outside and hump a tree because it makes me all excited and giddy and wants me to improve from being severely chronically online thanks
A highly addicting game that pulls you in deeper the more runs you make. Once you start unlocking gear and new powers it is hard to not justify one more run.
This is one of those games where I wish Steam would let you post a neutral review. There are many things to like about this game but there are a couple major points that hold it back for me and make other games in the genre more worth your while.
First, the maps grow stale after awhile. They're all randomly generated to a point but they all have the same major locations on them. The same locked doors, the same locations for keys, the same general locations for gateways to the next map. After about 20 hours of playing, I dread playing the first three or so maps because its like going through the motions to get to more interesting maps I've played less.
Second, the weapon pool is annoying. You unlock weapons with cells as you play but there is no pathway for unlocking actual better weapons. Some weapons just kinda suck and if you unlock a terrible weapon, it is now permanently in your weapon pool, lowering the chance of getting a good weapon you already had unlocked. I don't actually want to unlock weapons and I don't think that's a good thing in a rogue-like.
The combat and movement are quite good and the method of upgrading character stats in each run is solid and satisfying so if you think you'll like those things and can look past the two negative points I outlined, then this game might be for you. But for me, its a pass.
Brings me back to why I love video games. I bought all of the dlcs because it's worth it. A must have for all gamers.
haven't played these types of games since SEGA, but this game is addicting. The weapons and powers are freakin awesome and so fun to play with
This is the first rouge-like I actually liked just because the combat feels so good and all the references to some of my favorite games.
Buying every DLC of this game, loving it and praising it ad vitam aeternam but it'll forever be incomplete won't it?
I've been a fan ever since I first touched it, the humour, the graphics, the story.. and despite not being that good at the game, I still fully completed it through sheer knowledge check and learning
Unfortunately the story of the beheaded will forever be nothing much
It's genuinely my only complain with the game, that it doesn't have a proper end
Still though, it's worth anyone's time and money
Just don't be a casual
A rogue-like that isn't scared to spit on your face when you die and say that you suck at the game. A really fun game that gets brutally difficult later on.
So, after 50 hours I managed to finish two runs. The fact that I try for 50 hours the same thing, says: It rocks. Controls are perfect. The game is fast, easy to learn, hard to progress. I love these kind of games that are logical in themselves.
It's not boring, but always motivating. More weapons, more skills, more mutations, more more more.
The meta progression system keeps the player going. It's just great.
Even though roguelikes generally aren't my thing, dead cells is a masterpiece! Great aesthetics, great exploration, great difficulty level, great mechanics, and some of the most addictive combat I've had from a game. Even though I've died a lot I always want to come back for more. The run backs can feel long, I still enjoy exploring a new layout of a familiar area and the enemies it holds. If you loved Hollow Knight then DC is a must!
I had a lot of fun with this game but honestly, my enjoyment went down with each additional boss cell added. Having a basic enemy being able to one shot you 25 minutes into a run is demoralizing at the least, especially when they have so much health that you cant consistently kill them and have to rely on repeatedly dodging/parrying to beat just one enemy. The balancing is certainly questionable.
addictive, fast, frustrating, fun. Good game to run when you don't have a large amount of time to play. I dont typically like rogue like games, but the metroid vania style is a lot of fun.
this game is a combination of yelling out slurs from the top of your lungs when you die on the final boss with 5 cells, and calling this your favorite game
Fantastic roguelike/roguelite game. Came to the game after all DLCs, patches, and development was done. The result of their work is awesome, easily one of my favorite games now. Deceptively high replay ability with the boss stem cell difficulties modifying monsters, mechanics, adding mechanics, and much more. Highly recommend!
this game is awesome, some of the most fun and satisfying combat ive ever experienced, plus a great sense of exploration and progression
Even in just 77 minutes of gameplay, the replayability is already obvious. Different weapons, paths, and playstyles make each run feel unique. There’s this addictive loop of “just one more run” that pulls you back in every time.
Overall, Dead Cells hits that sweet spot between challenge and fun. It’s stylish, brutal, and feels built for endless hours of replaying and improving. I’m already hooked—and I’m just getting started.
very glad they made the first level music a banger because you're gonna hear it a lot
It’s not about beating the game. It’s about dying stylishly with 200 cells and that one legendary weapon you’ll never see again. 11/10
Amazing game, the boss(prolly bosses, i have only got to lvl 4 before dying) is hard, but the dopamine hit when you beat him is MASSIVE
Fast paced and frantic when you start. It can seem tough, but as you keep playing it gets easier and easier. Knowing the enemies moves and building powerful synergy with your weapons and skills is essential. Recommend this if you enjoy games like Rogue Legacy. There's a lot of repetition, but you'll make slow progress eventually.
This game is literally suffering except for that once in a blue moon run where nothing can even look at you without evaporating and I love it.
Art style is really nice and the gameplay is challenging.
you can put tons and tons of hours into this game and not get board
Own this game on multiple platforms at this point. I wish I could say that i was good... alas I am not.
Fantastic game that has ended up being my standard go to for pick up and put down bursts of gameplay.
I finally made it to the end, and I’m excited to try it again on harder difficulties. I think any game that can keep you coming back after completion deserves high praise.
its an super fun game really cool 2d game its honstly one of the best games ive ever seen in my life its like you can hop super fast while making an combo on an zombie or any creature but you should really try it this is just my opinion but i cant Wait For your :D
I dont care if Im late, if I wasnt able to play this while the community is growing, I love the game so much. I have played the mobile version first and I been loving playing it ever since. Now, I have to start a new adventure on pc, with all content finalize. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This game changed my entire gaming experience in my whole life, i have never enjoyed myself playing video games more than this in my life. I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone that enjoys having fun! 10/10 It is worth every penny it is! This game cured my depression and it made me want to love myself! BUY IT ITS WORTH IT!
Its an overall fun and challenging game which fits perfectly with how some games should be while being playable and customizable.
Игра способна удивлять. Но только если вы любите рогалики и игры, где вас убивают по кд. На одном дыхании ее не пройти
Great game honestly. My most played game, i have 106 hours on it in just 2-3 weeks. I highly suggest it BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BUFF DEATH'S SCYTHE PLEASE!!
Amazing game. The pixel art looks great, the levels look awesome, especially the Castlevania levels.
You unlock every run something new. Some is useful, some is cosmetic, some is just fun, but it's always rewarding.
It is not too hard, but also not easy. It's just fun to try again and again. To find all the hidden stuff and cameos.
I am playing on Steam Deck and this game is a match made in heaven.
It is a great game. One of the ideal rouge-lites out there. Lots of replay-ability.
This was the first roguelike I ever played. It's hard, but so addictive. I like feeling myself improve. I also appreciate all of the accessibility and custom features so you can play the game how you want.
Fan of solo or rogue like games, thanks for the developers making this game and still havent completed the game yet. still sad no more updates or dlc's coming to this game.
So, I've played this game a fair bit and I must say, it's quite nice! The enemies are cool, the weapon diversity is there and the synergies you can make are really something. There is one MASSIVE issue however. This game has the most tragic, disgusting and heart wrenching interractions with steam cloud. It is not a joke, but a crazy bullshit issue. If you for some reason go play it without internet, or just uninstall it while offline and download again online, your save file is gone, reduced to atoms, obliterated even, no chance of getting it back. I've tried, and i've failed, 3 hours of research to no avail, it was a 150h save too. After some time i decided to give the game a try yet again, played for a fair bit, internet thing, bang, my save is gone. Like I said, the game is really good and skill expressive, but if you want to play it, REMEMBER to go into properties and turn steam cloud off so you don't make the same mistake I did.
very fun roguelike. Kind of a hard difficutly curve but not too bad
I'm only on 3BSC as I write this review yet I can easily say that out of all the roguelikes I've played, dead cells is a strong contender for my favorite. It oozes with style, the gameplay has a ridiculous amount of skill expression while maintaining that "This broken build will carry me through the run" vibe. You dont even need the dlc to have enough fun with the game, but they're also great to have.
Seriously, get it. Dead cells fucking rules
Love this game! It's challenging, but somehow you still wanna play more. The style of the pixel art is really nice; the backgrounds are especially beautiful. I bought some DLC, and they tend to add quite a bit and are usually worth the money.
love the art style, every weapon just feels good to use, love all the different weapons and their effects, the bosses and just the locations and monsters, its fun to play and has interesting mechanics, the only somewhat downside is how its sometimes overwhelming with effects(i have little hours coz i originally pirated it but since then i stopped doing that and bought the games i pirated and loved)
Amazing game - metroidvania that you get one shot at per run. Lots of blood and main character is a bad azz.
THIS GAME IS CRACK - This was my first Rogue like game and it was amazing. I'm really upset there's no more update but this game is so addicting.
(I have broken few many keyboard, call me dada to make me feel better)
