great game with a native linux version and it runs great on my ancient 2nd gen intel integrated graphics. 5 stars
i love this game so much, the gameplay feels nice and fluid and it has a nice difficulty to it without it being overwhelming
i dont use them but i also like the assist modes being there, i think that should be in more games for accessibility reasons
Pretty good game, well polished.
I got kinda stuck during getting all the achievements, but i finally got them after only a month, 82 hours.
I'm not really to roguelite or roguelike games, but the game was still really good.
Definitely a 8.5/10 rating.
Bought this game because i have played it on mobile before, and having a controller around this time really paid off. I've spent about 70 hours on it, got to 2BC and i don't regret buying it at all. It's a pretty hard game but fun and rewarding at the same time. As a side note i sometimes found myself just opening spotify and listening to music while playing. Gongrats to the devs!
I own this game on every available console,, including my mobile device. I LOVE THIS GAME is an understatement. A must have for any genre of player. Thoroughly thought out, beautiful design, and challenging! Not just some walk in the park. And quite enjoy the soundtrack for regular game play and the extended soundtrack. Worth the buy!
This is a fun action packed metroidvania that is super fast paced. Totally would recomend super fun game.
I used to hate this game, this was a game that was kept in my backlog for years. Every few years I come back and give it another try only to find myself not being able to stick to the core design of the game and unable to focus on the main game play. Recently I gave my backlog another try and this was surprisingly one of the hidden gem for me.
9/10
Almost everything that can be perfect about the game like the soundtrack gameplay and visuals is, also I didn't encounter any major bugs while playing 10/10
Jogo exelente recomendo dms, no começo é dificíl mas dps que voçe pega a manha do jogo fica fácil comprei na promoção com todas as dlc,s e realmente valeu a pena recomendo principalmente para quem curte castlevania hollow khinght e etc.
Well, I don’t think I’ll say anything new about this awesome game. It’s an incredible experience! I must say I was overwhelmed by the idea of having to beat the game multiple times with increasing difficulties. I struggled to beat it on 0BC, which is actually kind of a tutorial… so I thought it’d be impossible to keep going. But I managed to beat it on 1BC on my very first try. Now I’m taking my time on 2BC to hone my skills a bit further and to upgrade the legendary forge. I still don’t know if I’ll manage to reach the true ending, but I’m damn sure I’ll try my best! Thank you, Motion Twin for this amazing game!
First things first, this is not a Metroidvania. It’s a Roguelike. It has minor MV elements but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s an actual MV. And if you want a story, this is not the game for you.
With that out of the way, it’s one of the best 2D action games out there. There are many different weapons/items for you to use and it’s quite common to switch them up during a run. It’s like Castlevania on steroids. It’s pure addictive action being injected right into your veins. Losing a run doesn’t even feel that bad and the game gets better the more you play it. Beating your first run is a fun challenge but it’s just the beginning. Once Boss Cells get introduced, the game really starts to show its true self and you will quickly realize that you had it so easy beforehand.
As much as I hate to bring up Dark Souls when talking about a game that’s not Dark Souls, Dead Cells clearly has 2 major similarities to it. First is the flasks. The primary way of healing is drinking from your flask which leaves you vulnerable to attacks while drinking. And you only get a limited amount of sips before you can’t use the flask anymore until the next checkpoint. Second is the dodge roll. Rolling lets you pass through enemies and gives you invincibility frames. You will be dodge rolling a lot.
The game is very skill based despite its randomness. I played probably 40 hours on Xbox and then rebought the game on Steam. On my very first run I made it to the final boss. The same can’t really be done in other Roguelikes like Hades. Most Roguelikes have you a bit more dependent on the item build you’ve crafted over the course of your run. If you can master or just get very good at the dodge rolling in this game, you will go far.
The paid DLC is absolutely worth it and not a postgame activity. If you play with all the DLC it would be indistinguishable from the base game, minus the Castlevania add on which is very obviously a crossover. I suggest waiting for a sale and picking everything up at a reasonable price. It adds way more variety and choices to your runs. The game also has about 5 years of free updates which has just now finally come to an end.
This is the best time to get into the game.
Classic. I played before, made it to 3 boss cells. Couldnt get enough of it, and now they added new stuff ! Very worth it, fast paced, pretty challenging and very satistying.
Cloud saves are fucked, this game is literally unplayable on deck if you're offline often
My second favorite rougelike after Hades. Super fun, tons of replayablity and weapons. You can sink hours in this game and not notice.
the game gets progresively harder with more steamcells and you really put your skills at a test at the end, but is a chill game, recommend one game a day cus the runs can take up to an hour, but its worth it.
I got this game after playing soul knight for hours on end on my phone and only discovered it through a collab between the two games. This is so much better. The fighting system despite being repetitive feels fresh every run because of the number of combinations and mutations you can choose from. It promotes exploration but still rewards speedrunning by providing extra loot. It has infinite replayability and I still have not even brushed the surface of the games weapon system and combos. 10/10 game.
This game is enjoyable and has great replayability. The variety of weapons and randomly generated maps make each playthrough unique, offering strong repeat value. In most games, dying repeatedly can be discouraging, but in Dead Cells, each defeat opens up exciting opportunities to try new builds and explore different character customizations. Don't be afraid of hard games or getting killed; be afraid of missing some good games.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. The humor, the game play, the massive amount of content, and the sheer impalpable love that Motion Twin put into this game make it a certified banger. It's bittersweet that updates on the game are coming to an end but, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. However, a new beginning is rising with their next game, Windblown. I have no doubt that the passionate team at Motion Twin will make it as great as it's predecessor, Dead Cells.
It's a fun kinda chill game with cool new gimmicks that you always seem to find. When you think the game has shown you all it has to offer it always seems to have a sprinkle more to give you.
One of the rare games of a generation. There's nothing quite like it and I don't think there ever will be. Fantastic from start to finish, and every piece of DLC is worth it.
I've bought this game 3 times, on Steam, my phone, and Switch. I'll buy it again for whatever else given the opportunity. It's fantastic.
A wonderful gameplay loop and lots of fun for a bunch of hours :)
This game is just an absolute blast. The music is fantastic, the progression feels meaty and rewarding, weapon play is solid and satisfying. Definitely worth the price for how much enjoyment that I've gotten out of it. Strongly recommend! I'm still in the early phases of the game, but I know that it's just going to keep getting more fun and difficult as I go into the harder difficulties.
Real fun mechanics and lots of lore with great retro graphics and clean gameplay
I wanted to play this game because of the upcoming Terraria update.... And i fell in love with game... alongside Hades this is my favourite of this genre, the sheer variety of weapons & accessories makes it so fun to play, also these weapons re satisfying to use wow...each run is vastly different and the asthetics & visuals are fantastic with great music... i struggled at first in some boss battles but i got it in the end... I will play this more in future for sure.. solid 9/10..definitely recomended.
8/10 Fun up till 2 cells. Then it becomes a 2 bad seconds and you're dead game. I also dislike that a whole set of powers can't be used if you want to progress the game (getting more cells). Last and biggest peeve is a dynamically generated game that feels the need to include dead ends where unpurchased dlc would be. It would be easy to code out those entrances but they leave them in as an in game ad. Still, fun game.
Its hours and hours of fun for a low price. Lots of amazing things, and only one complaint. PS5 controller compatibility wasnt very good.
Dead Cells is probably my favorite Roguelike game of all time. The combat is fast and addictive and the game oozes quality and style. With all of the updates, weapons, and DLC content this game is basically endlessly replayable. The game is so good, I bought it for Xbox, mobile, and PC. And if I lost access to my copies, I would go out and buy it again with no hesitation. Do yourself a favor and try Dead Cells if you haven't already.
I can’t even describe how smooth the gameplay is—it’s on another level. Honestly, if the gameplay wasn’t this tight, I would’ve dropped the game after the second run, no question, It’s been forever since I played something
that hooked me like this
also I get that RNG is a core part of rogue-likes, but why am I taking double damage before the final boss????????? i got it from the heal
I wrote this review right after finishing the tutorial (normal)
This is such a great game!! It's very well made and doesn't disappoint. I've played this game for 150 hours and am still not bored of playing since I haven't finished the game yet. I would recommend it to anyone!
Works on my crappy and broken dell laptop that has intel irisxe graphics (which lags in cs2 and minecraft on lowest settings). Very fun, and would recommend.
Not a fan of how the dev has done business in regards to other games and this one.
It was a good game but they changed into a bad developer to support.
Rogue-Lite, but with 5 new game+. This game is brutal from the start and only gets harder after you beat it. Also Im pretty sure my hours are glitched, I probably have somewhere near 220 instead of 100
Got this game on mobile 2 years ago and spent easily over a couple hundred hours playing, and I even got all the achievements. When I realized the return to Castlevania DLC was coming I couldn't help but buy the game on PC and attempt to complete the game and hunt all the achievements again. Still as fun as before if not more, definitely recommend!
Didn't like the game immediately since i kept dying and felt like i was bad at the game. But once i pushed through that and unlocked some decent gear i had a blast. 10/10
Good game, Don't care for how long the cell grind is and a decent chunk of the weapons feel useless or are just a joke.
i liked all of it it was fun it was cool and yeah so play it now lol i didn't dislike anything it was fun and stuff the graphics were perfect and the controls were simple so i would recommend this
Love this game but I don't like the fact that I was hit with a copyright strike on YouTube because of some of the music in the game.
Dead Cells is a brilliant mix of rogue-like and Metroidvania that delivers fast-paced combat, tight controls, and a beautifully detailed world. The variety of weapons and abilities keeps things fresh as you experiment with different playstyles on every run. However, the game's permadeath mechanic—where you have to start from the beginning each time you die—can feel repetitive and even grindy after a while. While it's undeniably addictive and rewarding, the constant reset after death may dampen the momentum for players who prefer progression over repetition. Still, the game's challenge, fluidity, and replayability make it a standout experience in the genre.
Sooo in love with this game! The first roguelite I've tried, didn't think I'd be that into it, but got instantly addicted. Very pretty artwork too <3
The game presents us with an important choice, but we shouldn't really worry too much about our answer. It doesn't matter if we like the result of our first decision between bow or shield or not, because we'll repeat it every time we start over, and that's going to happen a lot in this world where we can die at any moment. What we still won't know after that first death is that the answer to that question contains the very gene that makes Dead Cells a different animal from the hundreds of 2D action sidescrollers that abound in excess today: the gene of constant choice. Pay attention to this game, lovers of classic challenges: Dead Cells is a new monster to beat.
best dungeon crawler platformer i ever played very cool art to.
On of the great roguelikes. Tons of weapons and skills, 5 difficulty levels, lots of opportunity for niche playstyles, and amazing sound and visuals.
I got this game because i already have ror2 from the bundle and it was cheap, but man i wish i got this game sooner.
The gameplay is challenging, there are so many items, so many ways in which you can play, the different biomes look so beautiful, the enemies are fun to play against (most of them anyways).
The replayability is also amazing, every run feels different.
Such a great game, i highly recommend it
Just came back to Dead Cells after not playing for over a year. I have fallen off of playing roguelite games, desiring more hand-crafted experiences over procedural generation. But coming back to Dead Cells feels really good. It's an exciting playthrough every time. The fluidity of movement and combat is very engaging and the amount of content provided is satisfying. Being able to choose a different path through the various biomes (thanks to the affordably priced DLC) keeps the experience feeling fresh.
I highly recommend this game!
Great game fr, used a mod to get all the blueprints, still hard to play, now thats a game that assures difficulty, i may not have 10k hours but i can assure aslong as u got a min to learn and look at the game it will be worth it
BUT the price is kinda high so prob wait for a sale like i did :)
sooooooo satisfying!!! The gameplay is so smooth and addicting and the versatility is insane!!! I would absolutely recommend!
Fantastic game definitely worth the price! 9/10 if not 10
Hands down, one of the best games of its genre, addictive, quick paced, the right amount of difficult. Great references and throwbacks. It really is 10/10.
I love this game very much. I have way more than 9 ours on the game. this has been the most favourite game of my life. So much replayability and overall good narrative
I have been looking for a game like this for a very long time, and I'm so glad I finally found it! Dead cells has amazing combat that I haven't seen in any of my other games. It also has so much content that I don't think I know all of it. The permadeath may be annoying for players who are used to story games though. Definitely worth each dollar put into buying the game.
played previously on switch before all the dlcs and beat the base game, dont let my hours played throw you off. it is even better now with all the dlc. The homage to the other games it crosses over with like RoR, hotline, hollow knight, skul, etc... is honestly so respectful of the other ips they pulled from. This game is a 9/10
