One of those games I've had on my to-do list for a long while now. Finally got around to playing it and it's just as fantastic as they say. If you are at all intersted in metroidvania-ish games and/or rouge lites, this is a must play!
it's just really good and difficult so you need some real skills and work for results takes time but winning is super rewarding, if you ever get there.
Only 20 hours played but this game is so fun even without the DLCs
"Great Roguelike with Addictive Gameplay!"
Been playing Dead Cells for a few hours, and I gotta say—it’s addicting. The art style is awesome, smooth animations, and the game just feels fast and responsive. The replayability is solid, more like grinding, but in a fun way. Every run feels fresh since you can unlock new weapons and abilities, so there’s always something new to try. Tons of unlockables keep you hooked. Definitely worth playing if you like fast-paced action games!
Final Verdict: 10/10, would die and retry again.
Fun in a pressing down on your own bruise kind of way (the game is amazing but I am, very decidedly, not amazing at the game LOL). Definitely recommend trying it out!
got this game recently, its fun, but quite hard on PC, although, it can be more fun on PC if you get used to the controls more.
One of the more expensive games I've bought. And it't honestly worth the price. A Metroidvania Roguelike is something that I didn't know I would like yet enjoyed a lot of it. The price is a good indicator of the game being carefully forged.

I could kick myself for sleeping on this game for so long. This is probably my favorite game to pick up and play game-play wise. Every time you play it, its different. If you like roguelites and action platforming, this is a must.
Great game! Gameplay, scenarios, colors, overall it's very good. I recommend it. Unless you have very little patience to start from scratch with every death haha. Excellent.

Fast paced combat. Nice Visuals, good soundtrack, nice quirky jokes in game. Hard game. It you die, you lose all of your checkpoints, weapons and money and start from the beginning again.
Esse foi um dos jogos que mais me prendeu nos últimos tempos, a mecânica de batalha é muito legal e bem intensa (ainda mais quando tem muitos inimigos perto). O jogo no geral é muito bom e tem diferentes modos, caso queira jogar só com as armas que se sente mais confortável. As DLCs são muito boas, a do Castlevania me surpreendeu bastante e ficou bem legal.
this is by far the funnest roguelite game ive ever played.. i love the procedural generation, exploration, and clearing of each biome. there is a ton of DLC and replayability. ive sunk 23 hours into this so far and i see at least 100 more before i get sick of it. highly recommended. also incredible on the steam deck; must own.

Tons of replay value, tons of depth, tons to learn. Very hard and unforgiving at higher difficulty, but you just gotta skill up.

Dead Cells is a really fun action-roguelike game that I truly enjoyed playing and completing for the first time. I have always loved metroidvanias (such as Hollow Knight) and roguelikes (such as TBOI), and this game really gave me the enjoyment I got from both games. Each run feels rewarding to find and collect new items you have never seen before. As for the DLC, I feel as if it has sufficient content but is slightly overpriced and you should only buy it on sale with the DLC bundle deal. I am more than satisfied with the post-completion content that this game offers, including 6 difficulty settings and many areas to explore. This truly is a 10/10 for me, you should buy Dead Cells .
Got the bundle while it's 57% off would pay full price worth my money and will update this again once beaten the game
Super fun, satisfying combat, easy to learn hard to master. No complaints.
This game is so good. It's difficult, I don't consider myself someone who is good at video games, and it took my a while to get into a groove. But it's so satisfying to finally enter that flow state where you just land hit, after hit, without taking any damage.

It's been a while since I've had this much fun in a game! Woke up, went playing for hours and then had to protect myself and quit the game to get some breakfast. Didn't know it saves the game automatically so I just kept playing and playing XD
Genuinely So fun. The fighting style is so engaging, the timed doors are genius. The enemy, character, and world design and art is SO PEAK!
Nothing beats this game. I have tried several other games in this genre, and none of them comes even close to Dead Cells. the controls, atmosphere, music are superb compared to the other ones. I don't know about the sale statistics, but stop making board games and give us the Dead Cells 2 :D
PS. Castlevania dlc gave me goosebumps (born in 1982)
Fantastic Roguelike you can never stop until you eventually make it very far in the video game of Dead Cells don't worry about dying at first, since you come back alive & get stronger, also like to say those blue orbs that you collect will impact the game & hopefully will make you improve, it's got some challenging bosses, plus addictive gameplay to slash & slay your enemies with the sword melee skill & also your Bow as the ranged skill, along the way you can collect pieces of skill papers to improve your sword melee & range bow skills/abilities for example also the less important survival skill which doesn't matter as much, unless you want more health or something that's probably want you choose it for, anyway this is a rogue video game, each time you fail & die you come back stronger & don't expect to do it all on your first attempt, it can be impossible unless you're very professional at it, must buy if you like roguelike games in general, probably one of addictive fun rogues I've played, you get used to it eventually the more you play the game, can have a bit of a level up get stronger mechanic into a rogue game at the same time. They also recently did a castlevania themed to this Dead Cells video game, which blends in the castlevania as the introduced style to Dead Cells which I thought that was cool, usually Konami have exciting game reveals for Castlevania & I didn't think they would add that style into Dead Cells but they have, as Konami are aware of it. In the end, fun & worthwhile video game is Dead Cells, worth buying for a Roguelike in General, I would like a Dead Cells 2 or some kind of sequel in the future, imagine if they cranked it up to 11 & made it 10 times better than previously. Did play it a lot back on Xbox, so it's no different & fun on here. Highly recommended.
A fun, but very challenging rogue-like game. If you buy the Castlevania add-on DLC, you can have Castlevania tracks as BGM, instead of the Dead Cells soundtrack.
Very difficult at first, but once you unlock upgrades and get used to the game mechanics, it's less punishing. The expansion packs add some really interesting boards, and could be worth the money if you enjoy the base game.
i think this is the first roguelike i ever played. played this game on and off when it was in early access and never looked back. the hours I have on steam are inaccurate since i pirated this on my shitty laptop when i was a teenager. probably put around 500 hours into it in total. moved on to the games that it inspired but will always be in my heart
This game is amazing, I played it a lot when it first came out. I just can't support the washing of the games super unique identity to have Alucard be plastered on like its always been Castlevania. I know the developers really liked Castlevania, but you did not /make/ that game, you made Dead Cells, stick with an aesthetic. yawn.

It starts out pretty great - exploring every area for the first time is interesting, and permanent exploration-related abilities are a nice metroidvania-like touch. However, this game tries to sell itself as a highly replayabe one, with permadeath and all, and for me it definitely fails in that regard: once you're done with collecting initial abilities, every run feels very much the same (and I've played with all DLCs, having extra routes isn't really enough to mitigate this). Slight layout randomization is simply not enough to keep things interesting, viable weapons don't handle all that different from one another, while RNG can screw you over big time if you're unlucky enough. On topic of RNG - weapon affixes rely purely on in, making assembly of a well fitting synergized build a matter of pure luck.
Combat is hit and miss - core mechanics work alright, but a big problem is that game has a focus on not getting hit at all - while throwing enemies without good telegraphs at you, having a few enemies gang up on you, or having enemies that leave a delayed bomb on death. What this means in practice is that the most viable combat approach is often approach, hit, retreat, repeat - the intended alternative being ranged skills, which are indeed quite effective. In fact, these skills were so good, that they got nerfed compared to old versions by making cooldowns a lot longer - without fixing the core problem that other attack methods kinda suck in many situations. For a game that's supposed to be fluid this often kills the pacing, especially in later levels.
Non-exploration upgrades are kinda underwhelming - unlockable weapons are not particularly interesting and often even worse than base ones (the single most OP attack, the freezing blast, being available from the beginning). Cosmetic items are insanely grindy for what they are.
All in all, this game gets less and less fun to play as the time goes on and the initial sense of wonder subsides, which is something a roguelite should avoid at all costs. At least there's a silver lining in form of incredible soundtrack and expansive accessibility options.
P.S.: on an extra subjective note, I'm not a fan of both lore and graphics; the latter seemed to me like some kind of low-res 3D Nintendo DS game from the beginning - which, as it turns out, they kind of are, being 3D models pre-rendered at low resolution instead of hand-made pixel art.
This game is just a really good roguelite with fluid movement and super well implemented franchise colabs.

I feel as though I am constantly improving. The general loop and soundtrack never get old, and I love the art style. Every time i unlock a new bc there's a new plethora of content that spills out like a dam opening. I bought every DLC and all of them are equally as amazing as the base game. 10/10 highly recommend
Dead Cells definitely scratches the Rogue-like/lite itch if you've got it. It's not super hard to beat the base game, especially if you use boring ranged strategies and wait for cooldowns and take a really long time.
However, there's a lot of extra content to explore, and you can modify the difficulty level using a system similar to Heat Gauge from Hades. There's also lots of DLC to explore.
I'm writing this review after beating the base game after spending 7 hours on the game, but looking forward to re-visiting the other content when I have more time.
Rogue-like/lite is a Top 3 favorite game genre for me right now, and this is a classic Rogue-like/lite that I would recommend to anyone that wants to experience the genre.
Dead Cells is an extremely one-dimensional game, and it's not a dimension I enjoy.
Many roguelikes and roguelites have a variety of defensive upgrades in addition to offensive ones, meaning with enough luck or focus it's possible for tanking to become a viable strategy. Not so in Dead Cells! The defensive options in Dead Cells are so weak that it made no difference whether or not I even had them. Basically, the only difference between a good run and an awful run is whether you're a glass cannon or just glass, with no cannon.
If you're the kind of player who enjoys challenging yourself with no-hit runs in other games, then you'll probably have a lot of fun with Dead Cells. I, however, am not that player, and I had next to no fun with Dead Cells. Sadly I played just over the 2 hour mark and can't get my money back for this game.
phenomenal game. very well designed. it can be moderately difficult, but always fun and satisfying. if you enjoy action roguelikes, this is a must.
this game would be 10x more fire if i wasnt getting put in combos by random enemies like 15 minutes into the game. buy this its fun
An amazing action roguelike platformer game. The gameplay is extremely satisfying and enjoyable with the combat being smooth and fast making it an addicting game in my opinion.
What I personally love about it is how well they executed the idea of the game and the big variety of equipment there is to unlock while playing.
Also the advice I would give is, dont be afraid to die, death isn't bad. Im saying that because during the game you will die a lot of times. You learn things from dying, for example you get killed by a specific entity? Next time you will know how to attack it, while at the same time you will have learned its attacking system and how to avoid it.
Overall i think this is an amazing game I would definitely recommend getting it's very fun to play!

Controls are immensely fluid, combat is the most satisfying of any video game I've played, the roguelike elements are balanced very well. I love that it is not RNG what level you go to, you always choose that yourself.
I am very happy with the VASTLY expansive assist mode options that allow those who struggle with certain aspects of the game to breeze through them while still gaining the full experience on other regards. I, for example, am very not fond of the spike traps and platforming bits, I feel the physics afforded to the main character do not at all suit precision platforming. So having the option to turn the damage those spike traps do down to 20% of what it once was makes an IMMEASURABLE improvement to my enjoyment of the game.
I love this game. I love the little goofy references and jokes that appear throughout the game. The gameplay is pretty good, despite me dying after 1 second of entering a room, and is pretty smooth and requires a bit of strategy as well. The areas have great designs and even though I haven't beaten the game, but from what I've seen, the bossfights are amazing and enemies are really unique. And if you have played Windblown, you'll like Dead Cells, it's basically the same game but 2D.
Absolute banger, very easy to understand, the difficulty is pretty moderate depending on the stuff you get, very smooth to play and really fun, would recommend anytime !
I didn't really get into the boss cells, but I still had a blast with this game. This is one of the few (in my opinion) games that gets the rogue-like formula right, with there always being something new for you to find, or some new build to try out. Truly addicting right until the end, and the DLCs only add to it.
I love this games smooth mechanichs, and how satisfying it is to slay enemies. this is one of the best rouglikes i have ever played. one detail is that i normally love rouglike games, but this one is just different

After 19 hours of game time. I’ve managed to complete the game once.
I think I’m just bad at this game.
This is a perfect roguelite. The combat possibilities feel endless, and the whole game is always very fluid. Both enemy and boss design are very good too, and all biomes feel pretty unique. And graphics and music are just gorgeous.
If thinking about buying this game, I suggest buying with all the DLCs included, because they really are worth it. The different routes add a lot to the replayability of the game.
And it can be frustating sometimes, but always follow the game's motto: "Kill, die, learn, repeat.". You're supposed to try and die a lot of times, and it might annoy you sometimes, but in the end it's very satisfying to see improvement. Maybe sometimes it can get a little repetitive, but trying out new styles/equipment/combos do the trick.
