Since the first watcher discovered his powers, Eternium was the one thing that gave our watchers strength to overcome everything and everybody that threatened our universe. Now, for the first time, Eternium itself is in great danger. For the first time watchers, a secret oath was broken and for the first time ever, someone that is not a watcher knows about Eternium, knows how to get there and is one power-hungry, malicious, cruel witch.
Magic Realm: Online Is a co-op multiplayer objective defense game developed exclusively for VR. Idea was to create a fun epic world where players can experience different play styles through heroes system. Game is skilled-based which means, the more you play, the more fluent your gameplay is going to be.
The Game is inspired by epic fantasy itself and tower defense games. It is an endless wave-based shooter that combines different game genres. Play on your own or online with up to 4 other people that can join anytime. The game scales based on the number of people playing which makes it easier to play the game the way it's meant to be played - in multiplayer. See how long you can hold out against the relentless invaders and compete for the top spot on the global leaderboard as waves get increasingly more difficult.
Play as one of distinct characters with unique abilities:
- Wizard - master of elemental forces. Sunglasses included because casting shiny spells is bad for your eyes.
- Gunslinger - dual wielding gunner. Has a hidden passion for exploding things which he doesn't hide very well.
- Archer - master of bow and arrow. Firearms are overrated.
- Tinker - The Unstoppable War Machine.
Every map represents one planet in Magic Realm Universe. Maps are created to give players a fun and fast gameplay, also an immersive experience of a fantasy world in Virtual reality.
Each enemy presents a dangerous foe - some of them will attack you, some of them will wait for your attacks to turn them against you and some of them will increase the morale of other enemies and significantly speed up the pace. Others are visceral flyers that aren't interested in the objective as much they're interested in destroying you.
Use our session-based upgrade system with unique upgrades for every character as a tool to destroy even more foes. You can decide if you want to upgrade only one skill to the point of destroying all enemies with it, or play tactically combining more skills and upgrades. In every session, you are collecting experience which can be used to upgrade your hero's skills. Every hero has 4 unique spells you can choose from, and every spell has its own 4 perks for an upgrade.
In every session, besides experience points, the hero is gathering coins too. Coins are used in the in-game shop, where you can buy different items to enhance your gameplay. You can choose between potions, bombs or turrets which can help you defend the gate easily.
Since the game is session-based, we introduced leaderboards where you can check your score with players all around the world. There are two different leaderboards, one for the singleplayer game, where you can check your personal standing in the world of Magic Realm, also a multiplayer one, where you can make it to the top with the help of your friends or with a random team you can find.
You are starting a game as a Wizard, the most powerful hero in our Universe but also the hardest to master. There are 30+ achievements that can be unlocked, and every achievement has something locked behind it. The first few and easier ones will unlock new characters or maps. Also, most items in the shop and beautiful shiny shields are locked too. You need to achieve different tasks so you can unlock them and use them in your future gameplay.

It's April 2024.
This game is pretty cool. It's an RPG / Wave defender hybrid with 4 classes and multiplayer support.
The classes are great, they have multiple movesets and ways to play. The graphics are a little better than good and the variety of enemies is enough to result in interesting and challenging situations.
Think "Elven Assassin meets Runequest."
Sadly there is no one around to multi-player with. Unlocking the character classes will take a few hours of enjoyable gameplay..... so if the game is cheap on sale it is worth checking out.....
Unlocking the environmentss would add dozens of hours of gameplay, but some of the requisites to unlock some of the environments look like they'd be very hard to do solo.....
I do recommend if it is on sale for 50% off or more. If there were people (or even bots) for multiplayer it'd easily be worth $12.99..... but without people to team up with the whole experience is limited.
Don't normally do reviews but i rather enjoyed this game and hope more people pick it up as I haven't been able to enjoy the co-op portion of the game due to lack of numbers
Avoid this game. In its current state it is literally unplayable. After launching it takes about a minute tops for the game to crash and brick steamVR causing me to have to restart both to get the game or anything else to launch. I know this is not a hardware issue as my current setup easily smashes both minimum and recommended specs and can run much more higher requirement games easily. I would say something about the gameplay now but the game bricks itself before I can get to that part of it. Overall this game is not worth the money even on sale as it doesn't even function properly. Avoid this like the plague and go play another game.
Movement controls are bad, snap turn only and the config menu is hilarious. (locomotion on/off being one of like 4 options made me lol) Unlocking anything seems to be designed to put most of the content behind a time gate so people can't return it, since most of the game is locked behind tasks like "get 50 headshots with archer." Multiplayer is dead, so bring a friend. menu controls are "touch floating misaligned hand you can't fix to the floating touch screen" so navigation is miserable most of the time. Pretty sure the enemies are all from some asset store.
All that considered it's still pretty fun. 2/10
Its really fun especially with friends. Shooting goblins is hard. The only downside is that it made me a little nauseous moving with the analog stick, but that's probably because I'm still new to vr.
Honestly for the sale price of $6 this game is well worth it. Its seemingly simple but has depth and is decently challenging. Plus you can play with friends and that makes everything better. To the Devs, please make proper G2 bindings. I created some custom ones for now but they are not perfect. Also power selection on the mage is wonky with the wand going right through the orbs and selecting nothing
Nice game with sold but flawd gameplay. Most the time it's just pray'n'spray with the attacks, there's no way of knowing where you''re hitting most of the time. Sometimes you can shoot straight ahead and the projectile flies straight and sometimes it either lands directly in front of your feet, hitting the ground, or in a different direction. I found this problem mostly prominent with the Wizard class.
The game has currently four classes (or 'Watcher' as they're called in-game): Gunslinger, Archer, Wizard and Tinker. You start with the first one and unlock the following. If you play a class for the first time, you get a prompt for a tutorial which is basicly exactly the same for every class with some very minor differences (kill enemy, upgrade a skill, kill enemy with new skill and upgrade next skill). Strangely though, the first tutorial who told me about the shop and how to block attacks, was the one with the Wizard - which is the third class to unlock. A bit late at this point, but I'd this figured out myself by then.
While I enjoyed the Gunslinger and Wizard - I haven't unlocked the Tinker atm - the gameplay with the Archer was just a pain in the butt. Aiming was the most difficult thing in-game for me. Sometimes, I had to move very closely to the enemies to even get a garantied hit in. This problem's due to the handling of the bow: the direction of the arrows is seemingly determined by the way you hold the bow, the direction the arrow is pointing and how much you pull the arrow back. While in theory perfectly logical, in-game it often causes the arrows to fly anywhere but where you're pointing at. This could (probably) be fixed if the arrow direction couldn't change as soon as the arrow is knocked.
Another point that's annoying are the health potions: sometimes I could grab and drink them, sometimes I could only buy but not drink them and sometimes I couldn't even interact with them at all (even if I had more then enough points). They should also restore your health a bit faster, imo. I can barely drink one before the next wave attacks, which makes the small ones are pretty much useless.
Well, overall it's a nice game if you can get it on sale - I got it for just under 5€. The 11€ are a bit too much for the content it offers currently.
At this point, played only 3 hours. But this is what I noticed:
Not a very popular game. Has a multiplayer but no one appears to be playing it tonight. It should be as this tower defense is, I dare say, more interesting than elven assassin. That game limits where you can go and has boring orcs that all sound the same, and pause in a tedious AI way and throw axes at you. Well this game gives you an option to take some damage, pull up a shield, run with the joystick and teleport to different defense areas. It also has way more interesting monsters.
This one also uses a shop feature with bombs, health potions, a way to heal the tower. You also can level up in game, make your characters abilities better.
This game VS elven assassin is what my review is. I think it blows the more popular elven assassin out of the water. Players who like the archery defense will like the archer in this game.
In three hours I seem to have unlocked a lot but still see 30 game achievements I still do not have. Achievements appear to unlock more of the game.
I personally like the wizard character for the dramatic wand zig zagging to get specific spells while dodging, shielding, teleporting. To remember what motion a spell is while dodging a fireball from a dragon or bomb from a goblin is challenging. It does show you the shape you need to draw when casting so it’s not totally a shot in the dark.
Bug I found, in the third map I could not teleport or walk to the statue to heal the tower. It was difficult to teleport from one side of the map to the other it seemed also so playing single player seemed more difficult for that map.
Other bug: playing on rift, it’s angled the gun and wand up higher like I got the vive.
+The first time I played, the glitches and clunky-ness jaded me a bit, but I recently have gotten knee deep in it and am really enjoying it. If you like TD, this is a great take on it.
+I like that the unlocks are behind an achievement, gives it an objective feel which many TD's are missing.
+Each class has their own strengths and weaknesses which is a nice design as they all feel very unique in their play (haven't unlocked Tinker yet).
+The mobs are each very unique and add to the strategy and play value.
-Still needs a bit of polishing, and I hope that there are more classes and levels coming.
-The bridge on the first level glitches me out if I travel across or near it.
-Multiplayer can reboot my game or not let me in the subsequent match unless i reboot the game at times.
The game play it horrid.
The waves have no pause to them so you can use a potion, it takes time to get one and to actually drink it. I tend to have a bad guy get a free hit on me while I am trying to drink it and heal, so its about pointless. On top of that, if you "die" you have about 20 seconds to wait before you can respawn, and the bad guys tend to make it super close to your gate or make it through. So die and its about game over, forget the respawn.
Power ups are nice, but weapon handling it horrid in my opinion. So hard to get a line on something and hit with accuracy. The shield you get will stop things from hitting you, but if its a bomb, it deflects it then you take the damage from AOE anyways... thrilling.
All said and done, it just needs work. Awesome base for a game. The feel of the environments and what it could be are excellent. For now, hard pass. Its just frustrating and irritates you more then you have fun. Even on sale... REFUND!
"Follow" the game, watch the updates, read comments. Maybe buy it in the future after more work goes into it.
It's a class-based tower-defense game that I got for $5 on sale. It's fun in a group and the classes/upgrades make it enjoyable. The music is very loud in the beginning, and some of the gameplay feels strange; but I won't fault it. It was fun and worth the $5 to play with my friends. The devs seem active. Thanks for the game.
EDIT: I have changed my recommendation due to developer response.
A rating of "mixed" is eerily accurate if a bit generous. There is a lot to like here, and the game may have worked better at some point, but today, on 1/20/2020 the game has enough critically breaking bugs that downgrade it from "game" to "alpha prototype". It is absolutely impossible to progress in the game after unlocking 2 characters.
You can see at the time I am posting this review I have 26 hours on record. Why did I play a alpha prototype for 26 hrs? Well it all started when my friend and I were looking for a casual co-op VR game and this seemed to fit the bill. Everything started well enough, but soon things started getting weird. I became interested in the weird bugs enough to basically hunt them all down as a vigilante beta tester.
For the developer, in short order, here are the bugs:
1. Bombs from the shop in multiplayer cost "double". As in they cost 1000 to buy, but when you use one another 1000 is taken away from you. If you don't have 1000 when you use it, you actually go into negative money. If you have 5000 gold, buy 5 bombs, you'll be at 0 gold. Then if you throw 5 bombs, you'll be at -5000 gold. You actually have to repay this negative balance before earning gold again. This is the only item that behaves like this in the game, and it seems like only in multiplayer mode.
2. Giants in "Standard" mode are 10x harder than the giants in "Master" mode. This makes no sense. Maybe they are switched, but I think there are a few extra 0s at the end of the hp for the Standard giants. It takes about 6 bombs to kill one. In contrast, one bomb and a few attacks kills a Master giant.
3. Joining multiplayer always sends you back to the title screen. For some reason if both my friend and I close steam and re-open, multiplayer works. Happens everytime.
Now for potential buyers, let me explain why these seemingly simple bugs that could have been the result of a single typo in the code, and could be fixed just as easily; turn this game into a kafkaeque nightmare.
There are 2 difficulty modes, standard and master. In multiplayer, both standard and master are slightly harder.
A variety of unique and interesting mobs spawn from the gates and you must take them down before they reach your castle gate. On waves 10,15,20,25,30 and then more frequently from then on, special giant "boss" mobs spawn. On Standard difficulty, they have an impossibly high hp. You can play a perfect game, and use all your gold and might and you will only be able to kill 1. On wave 20, 2 giants spawn and there is no way you are getting past that.
Luckily there is "Master" mode, which claims to be harder, but is actually easier. On master mode the normal mobs have more hp but it is manageable. The giants however are surprisingly very easy to deal with! I estimate they have 7-10 times less hp than the ones in standard mode. I was able to get to wave ~40 in singleplayer on Master.
But I got this game to play with my friend, and this is where the last straw happens. To kill the giants you need to use a bomb item you can buy from the shop, with gold earned for killing mobs.
For whatever reason, in multiplayer mode, using the bomb item depletes a large amount of your gold. It will even send your gold amount into the negative, which you have to completely pay off before you can even start to earn gold to buy items again.
This leads to a unrecoverable position. It's eerily funny that the one item that can kill the giants, is the only item that behaves this way, and only in multiplayer mode. All the other shop items in multiplayer behave as expected. The bomb in singleplayer mode behaves as expected.
The gunslinger character has an ultimate that can kill the giants without needing to resort to the shop, but the game requires you to do this with other characters to progress and unlock more items and characters, so you are at a standstill. So there you have it, a lot of frustration, but at least some closure for my friend and I. On a positive note this experience has led me into learning VR game development using Unreal.
Enjoying this so far. There’s a Few glitch but doesn’t it’s pretty fun. The locomotion can get stuck sometimes and the shield health/xp bar sometimes doesn’t display. The orca call you mortal... then you kill them, irony. I would like it better if the gunslinger had sights for aiming so you don’t have to shoot like a thug. The periodic bosses are impossible to kill solo as a gunslinger or mage so it’s not a lot of fun when you automatically lose due to mechanics instead of skill.
Complaints aside I like the concept and it feels pretty immersive.
Environmental detail could be improved as well.
This has been one of the more fun games that I've played since getting my Valve Index VR. I definitely got my moneys worth as far as time played and cost ($10 at the time of writing). Classes are fun, maps are interesting, definitely one of the better of the styles that are currently out there.
I'm not a fan of the gated use of the classes, I hoped to be able to jump in and test them all. I unlocked most of them in only in an hour game time playing single player.
The game is quite suck when you are playing as Wizard.
It is easy to miss the enemy when you are "throwing" the spell to the enemy.
Also, you are required to draw the rune to cast the spell. However, before you are doing that, you still have to select one of the spell first., so the drawing part is actually quite meaningless.
However, once you have killed 300 monsters as Wizard and unlock Gunslinger, the game started to be more interested (and more playable). Yes, you are required to:
- Kill 300 monster as Wizard to unlock Gunslinger;
- Headshot 1000 monster as Gunslinger to unlock Archer;
So if you expect that you will get all 4 classes once you have purchased the game, I don't recommended you to buy this game.
I'm still on my way to unlock Archer, which seems to be more interested to be played as.
Bought this game, played for an hour and refunded.
The game has quite some bugs:
Can't move in the map sometimes,
Doesn't recognize controllers(HTC Vive)
The bosses are literally unkillable when you player wizard.
Multiplayer doesn't work at all.
Game could be nice but really feels like a demo.
imo not worth 10 bucks
I personally enjoy this game, but it is a little hard to play as a left handed player as there is no option to swap hands, especially for the archer. Other than that, great game really enjoy it!
Great fun for a first person tower defense with different classes, enjoyed most with co op. You’ll pretty much have to know people who are playing at the same time though, as the player count is low.
HOW DO YOU TURN ON HEADSET IN GAME COMMUNICATION though??? Me and my friends can’t figure it out. We are yelling between rooms or on our phones.
Otherwise loads of fun.
I don't normally write reviews but I think it may help the game and prospective buyers. My expectations were not high I i just stumbled upon this game. I have to say, for an Early Access game it's actually pretty darn awesome!
Yes, it's a bit rough around the edges and not complete yet, and yet it is a wave shooter but its actually quite unique and I own loots of VR games.
What is in the game:
1. Three distinct maps, with differet environments, different paths to defend and diffferent layout. I like the desert town map the most, although its quite difficult. The very first city map is fun too!
2. Three heroes. They are very distinct in gameplay and mechanics.
The mage has four different gesture based spells, gestures are very easy to remember and the game is very lenient about the drawing part. One is a quick-throw fireball, which can be upgraded to explode or set enemies on fire, second one is AOE freeze spell, which can be targeted on the ground and can also be upgraded to have a DOT effect. Third one is an awesome point and release ball of lighting spell, which zaps all enemies in its path and can be upgraded to slow affected enemies. And the ultimate spell is truly a wonder to behold! I will leave this one to you to discover.
The archer is very precise and you can shoot as fast and as accurate as you can. The archer has special arrows, such as a high damage sleep inducing arrow and and a cool seeking arrow, which reminds me of the Guardians of the Galaxy :D
The ultimate arrow is pretty cool too:)
The gunner has a semi auto gun, you never run out of ammo but it does overheat which is clearly visible on the top of the steam-pank-esque firearm. Now, to load special ammo and rockets into the gun, you have to physically grab the ammunition from different part of your ingame body and then load it into the gun. The characther starts pretty weak, but after few damage and AOE upgrades its becomes really powerful! Another benefit of this class is that you can easily finish off the enemies from afar.
3. The enemies start with regular orcs, which run towards the gate which you have to protect. The orcs also sometimes throw the axe you, which you can either block with your shield (it breaks and then regenerates), step to the side/duck in the real world or teleport to another spot in the same node or to the different node. Then there are orcs that speed up the others, orcs with shields, etc. And then there are also several special enemies too, such as a dragon, which flies straight at you and tries to eat your face. Or the necromancer that resurrects fallen enemies. And then there are also bosses........ I leave them to you to discover!
I just made it to level 14 playing as the archer with 3 mages in my group, was such an amazing experience. I then also soloed to wave 12 and now i'm in the 4th place on the leaderboard!
I hope my review helps people, if you have any questions please ask! And see you in the game!
What you get:
Test out 3 classes.
Wizard, Archer, Gunslinger
Wizard is frustrating as you can't just cast the spell pattern.
Gunslinger is more fun but guns need to feel punchier.
Archer is clearly the best class and more fun.
One Enemy asset.
Alot is missing from this game.
No NPC
No player character models.
No enemy AI
No other players.
Only one enemy asset.
Maybe no actual server?
The description accurately says what this is. Its a concept demo asking for money to complete this project.
