Поддерживаемые языки: english, french, german, spanish - spain, japanese, russian, simplified chinese

Game was very clunky and unpolished when it worked. Now it won't even start, including after uninstall/reinstall.
Within 5 minutes I sent a refund request. Poorly made, not worth paying for, maybe good for a free game but honestly there is no explanation into the game as to what is happening makes 0 sense wouldn't recommend at all
I can only recommend this game if bought at a heavy discount and you can ignore the bugs. The dictionary shut down several time during my ~10 minute play time and the experience was mediocre at best. The best part of the game is the ability to see and have the translation of objects. It makes it so much easier in my mind to understand these items in the language I'm learning.
However, this game does not deserve the pricetag. I bought the game at about $5 and even still it's almost not worth it. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME WITHOUT UPDATES AND/OR A PRICE REDUCTION
I would recommend... if you LOVE language enough to look past the bugs, and you get it on sale.
I would love this game if it worked properly and had a bit of a polish (not Polish, but that would be good too).
I honestly feel like this is an excellent way to learn languages, but it needs an amazing game designer to make it great.
Major Issues:
-Long time since last update?
-Crashed on dictionary
-Clipping through buildings
-Tank controls ( the camera only moves when you move the cursor to the side of the screen)
-Style ( looks like PS1)
Please update, gracias, danke, tusen takk, thank you.
I can not recommend this game to anyone. Its shallow, buggy, clunky, and not worth than more than like $3 US. It could be good but it would need a heap of work. And the developers has went quiet. So this is probably the final state of the game which should no longer bee on the page.
I think this game has a lot of potential. The fact that they have native speakers using colloquial phrases (at least for German) is extremely useful as that is something most games and applications miss. It does look and feel like it's in alpha, but I always appreciate the information in the game first over graphics, etc. Despite the glitches, I really hope this game will move forward to become the first choice of its type. I can see this becoming a great mobile game as well and would absolutely purchase if it were available. I enjoy learning languages and it is difficult to find affordable interactive applications, so this game especially for its price fulfills that niche for me. I do enjoy some of the fourth-wall breaking by some of the characters and did not expect so much comedy from some interactions in the game. Overall, the looks are a bit bare and the navigation (not being able to move the cursor while moving) can be a little frustrating, but that does not take away the essence of the game. I very much enjoy the concept of this game and I have been waiting years to find a game like this. I look forward to more updates.
It took me 10 minutes of playing to accidentally bug out the textboxes and camera. The game itself clearly has work put into it, with how many languages are available. The game itself though, feels as if it's still an alpha build. Dunno, thought it wouldn't be this buggy, I guess. As of 08/03/19, rating 3/10.
I love language learning and wanted to check out a new approach. Actually I heard about this game quite a while ago when it wasn't published yet. Now I tested it and this saying: I learnt a couple of languages already so I'm not new to language learning.
Pros:
- New setting
- Good graphics
- Intriguing story
Cons:
- Too slow progress. I played 20 minutes and learnt 1 word. The games states 40 words, but I can only recall one word actively. With other apps I can learn 10-20 wordsactively in 5-10 minutes (e.g. Duolingo, LingQ, Anki).
- Only translations for words you "learnt" already in the boxes. I'd like to translate the sentences manually and not wait until the game thinks I'm "ready"
- Character and hare far too slowly moving. I insulted my hare frequently because she didn't walk faster xD
Now I'm hoping for refund since I'm not going to use this game for language learning.
I paid $20 for this game. I cannot believe I did that. This is at most a $5 game. Absolutely rife with bugs. Gameplay is very boring and feels like an amateur high school project. Many flaws that hinder gameplay and enjoyment and unless you feel like joining the discord to pester a defensive dev to fix them, they will most likely not be fixed, since the dev has stated that he is not interested in updating the game any further. Having played the game in both a language I know and a language I don't, I feel like beginners would learn very little of their target language, and certainly not enough to 'supplement' their language learning journey. Clearly the dev did little research into language learning. Absolute scam.
Played for half an hour and these are the problems I found.
*Note; This game is using Taiwan pronunciation, not mainland China.*
-喷水池 is not pronounced ZI it is pronounce chi like eating.
-你 (you) is not the character for 帮到。
-The highlighted red is showing 你 and giving me the option for help/me/at and the pinyin is saying bangdao so doesnt match pinyin for 你 is ni third tone
-wo di is not my the pinyin is wo de 我的 in dictionary it says Help bangdao 你 which is wrong
-when he says 我应该告诉他 blah blah cant remember the whole thing because the sentence structure is wrong
-forgot to put 应该 instead it just says 该
-垃圾桶 is pronounced LA G Tong the 及 sounds like a G sound and the pronunciation is wrong it is telling me le se tong
I am so disappointed, been looking for something like this for years since I moved to China, and thought I found something amazing. Seems like a good idea, but doesnt seem like your heart is invested in it. As you said you are done building this game and moving on to the next great thing. There are so many problems to be fixed and so many avenues you could go with this, but instead now focusing your time on something else。 If you paid more attention to words, grammer structure, and expanding the Island, adventure, making it kid friendly with topics used in everyday conversations, along with advertising instead of rushing it out, im sure this would have been used for educational purposes, but im running into so many problems it makes me question the other languages on here. As I work in China and run into a lot of people who want to learn Chinese, let alone just learn English, this would have been great, but so far its not. Good luck, good try, and I commend your hard work. I couldnt have done something like this, but just not there yet. I have requested a refund and I suggest if you are serious about learning a Language DO NOT buy this. I am skeptical what the other languages are like, and what words are wrong. Lucky my Chinese was good enough to catch on early.
First of all I've met bug which makes it unplayable. The audio and text for the chinese disappears, this has happened thrice and the only way to get it back that I've found is to start a new game file, which means starting all over again. Still without this bug I wouldn't reccommend this game for severeal reasons:
1. There is sooo much walking, without anything happening. You are just walking. This might have been okay if you could walk at a reasonable speed.
2. To find your way you have gotten a guide, which walks even slower than yourself. Give me map, please! Or have people arond town direct you throught the language you are learning.
3. You replay the same stuff over and over again to learn a couple new words per sentence the people you are talking to are saying. Which by my estimates (I haven't got chance to test because of the bugs) means I have to go through the same slow-walking "adventure" at least ten times to be able to find out what they are saying.
4. There is no way to mark words you already know as learned so this makes the progresss feel even slower. Some rounds I only get words I know.
5. There is little use of the environment to give context to what is being said. The true strength of immersion is that you hear and read something and can connect it to things around you. This is barely used from what I can see. Huge fruits placed around town which you can click on to get the word in your target langauge does not count.
6. Little interaction. Go pick up something from someone quests would be great to learn nouns instead of the humungous fruits and berries everywhere. Having to actually answer questions and in some way insulting someone or making a friend or getting a confused look would help. Just anything other than a flashcard-like walking simulator.
The artwork is cute, the concept is OK, but isn't that well executed. The learning more and more to get the full context is a good idea and feels kind of like a mystery, but when you have to do the really slow walk through the entire town before you get anything more of the story it just gets annoying. Without the bugs I would have thought the game was oky-ish, but with them it just seems like rip-off and not worth it at all. I would not reccomend this game, it is not fun, it will not teach you much more than flashcards can do and it takes a really long time since you have to walk behind the slowest guide ever. I would have liked to get throught he story enough time to understand it, but I'm guessing I'm not missing much.
This game certainly isn't the best, however I would personally say it is worth the 20 USD. It is buggy and at times it crashes, though it is unfair to expect much more from a game that has been released for five days. Despite this, the art style is easy on the eyes and the game serves its purpose of emersing you in a place of the chosen language. As for the translation, the seven (i think) base languages are well translated and are great, though the community translations (the other languages like hungarian, danish and dutch) aren't the best. In addition to this, I enjoyed the world that the game lets you explore and the worldbuilding the game has. Overall, if you want to learn Russian, Chinese, French, german, Japanese, or Spanish, this is a great game. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't suggest it.
I've enjoyed my time with the game so far.
The city has a very unique art style and there are some very pretty areas to discover. Walking around the city and discovering new people to talk to and words to learn is a very relaxing experience.
It's not as concise a learning tool as reading a book mighe be. Since you do have to walk around and aren't continuously confronted with text. With my level of French I find that quite comforting however, as I can give my mind a brief rest between conversations.
I'd recommend the game to anyone who has a playful approach to learning a language and would like to spice up their existing routine, but also to anyone who might want to take a stroll in a lovely, fantasy city.
I think this is a good start to a game, but I feel at its current stage, it should be labeled alpha, and it should have a story line. Right now, I can't tell if there is even a story line.
I want to leave a review here because many people gave bad review because of the bugs in this game. I can definitely say that a lot of those bugs are fixed quickly by the devs and by version 1.02 it is playable for me. There are some more things I would like to be changed by the devs such as the movement controls which feel like driving a tank, but I'm sure the devs are working on it and I will update this review when the devs changed the movement system.
As for learning the language? Yeah, it really feels like you are dumped in a strange environment with a strange language that you must learn to understand what the people are saying. Really helps with the immersion problem I've been having when learning a new language. I managed to learn extremely quickly using this game, so I say this game really achieves the goal of helping people learn a new language.
It is rare seeing a language learning game like this in Steam, other than Influent as far as I know, but it's good that we're having more of these games. I am sure the devs will quickly fix the bugs and the controls in time, so if you're reading this devs, please don't get discouraged by the bad reviews, okay?
Oh and thank you for making this game, it really helps my language learning!
-All-in-all, this game can be summed up as half-baked.
-Let's start of with the positives. There is demand for language games and the general concept and atmosphere works fairly well for that demand. when the atmosphere works right and the music (If you can find it) plays, the game does lighten up and become less boring and/or tedious.
-Sadly, there's many more negatives than positives.
First things first,
-This is not a $20 game. This is at most a $10 dollar game. I understand that hiring various voice-actors for various languages isnt cheap but there's nothing in the game that could really solidify a $20 price as is.
-This game isn't finished and is advertised as finished
-The camera and movement are terrible. The camera is stiff and is stuck in an uncomfortable bird's-eye-view that is only able to be moved horizontally. If the camera was in a 3rd-person view the game would open up more and the aesthetic could really shine with the designs and the music.
-The movement is just as bad and dated as the camera, as the character controls like a tank( as previous reviews have stated). Directing the character by mouse in some way might make the control of the character be easier and more smooth.
-The content of the language learning so far seems to be far and few between with few words padded out only with long walks between characters. In this state, the game is just too inefficient to learn a language
-The pathinding for AI is pretty bad( especially with the person you follow, who will walk through the river and into houses)
This game is amazing - from concept to actual gameplay, the language learning community lacks interactive and engaging methods of teaching such as what this game provides.
As is to be expected with release day, there are some minor bugs as mentioned by other reviewers. However, I found that none of them truly affected my gameplay and I still learned tons and had tons of fun in my first hour. The developer is also very active and helpful, and has been pushing out daily updates to fix bugs, so it's only a matter of time before things are smooth.
Many people complained about the steering and controls; theyre not normal by any means but theyre not really that bad. Turning does feel like you're driving a tank but you get used to it pretty quickly.
Also, don't worry about the "required" graphics card. I bought and played the game on a toaster and had great fps the whole time.
I highly recommend the game, it is a lovely experience and incredibly helpful for learning a language.
I got this the day it came out as I've been following it. This is still very much a work in progress, but has great potential. It doesn't do traditional chinese only simplified. I have clicked on objects to recieve a "no word for object" On questions that revese the language (text is in your native language answer should be in language you are learning) only one answer is in the language you are learning, making it not really a question. When you have to guess a word based on pictures if you guess wrong twice the game will not tell you what the word means.
Game play is a little clunky still at this time as well. The character you follow around will go places you can't go (into the river, between two building you can fit in, etc) Then you have to wander the city trying to find them. The left and right move buttons actually rotate the character but don't move them left or right.
Finally, the character you click on speak the language you are trying to learn, but al the ones wandering the world speak some kind of mumble speak that isn't the actual language. Although their speech bubble seem to be right, the audio isn't even close to the language you are trying to learn.
Overall it's a good first attempt, and I'm looking forward to future updates that hopefully fix the issues making it hard to play.
I really would love to love this game, but I simply can't bring myself to in its current form. Despite that, I will provide some of the pros and cons of this game.
Let's start first on a positive note:
+ Good concept and would be great for people who prefer an exploratory method of language learning.
+ Automatically saves words into a list in order of how they are learned.
+ Provides written and spoken pronunciation guides
Now on to the bad news:
- Tank controls: No game in the modern age needs tank controls and if they did, they had better run much more smoothly than this. Moving the character is like a slip and slide that no one asked for.
- Spoken guides are extremely quiet and the sound quality is lacking. I would also appreciate an option to slow down the audio to better hear how new words are spoken. Also, when selecting a word in the dictionary, the spoken guide occasionally does not match what is written.
- Clipping happens way too often.
- fixed camera angles makes it hard to see where you are going and/or the camera clips through NPCs when engaged in a conversation.
Overall, I would not recommend this game to anyone as it is now. I am hoping that the developers will continue to improve it as time goes one, because I do like the concept and it would be a fun and unique way to learn a language on ones own. Hopefully, we can see something a little more polished in the future.
I've been excited for this game since I first saw it on Kickstarter, as I thought it would be an interesting way to learn Japanese, a language I have fallen in love with. Unfortunately, I was unable to support it at the time, but it appears that I may have dodged a bullet. I bought this expecting it to be a great way to help myself learn a new language. Instead, what I got for my not insignificant £15 was a glitchy, infuriating mess. The player character, as well as their guide, clipped through every conceivable object. The handling on the player character was so similar to that of a broken shopping trolley that I often felt I got to my destination in spite of the controls. There were many spelling errors in the English, and I had to force quit because the game didn't feel like continuing. I was incredibly disappointed, and I feel like £15 was far too much to pay for such a broken game.
EDIT:
It has been a few days since the game has been released, and the developer has done a wonderful job of fixing bugs and other quality of life changes. It pleases me to say that I can now recommend this game. The only problem I have with it now is that the player character still handles like a tank, and the game is padded slightly by the character feeling like they're walking through treacle. Apart from that, however, it is a great way to expand your passive vocabulary in a language.
