Lest we forget
This game is beautiful and heart breaking. A must play for everyone.
What a masterpiece.
Most heart-wrenching game I've ever played. 100000/10
game is good but it requires ubisoft connect to play
good story - ubisoft though..
Absolutely loved it, feeling the sorrow for the characters and seeing how life was during WWI was fascinating and very sad. Valiant Hearts is definitely a must play if you're into war games. It's a tear jerker for sure. I wish to find more games like this. I was enthralled through the entire game. And Jacksepticeye played it so there's a plus! Play this game, it's worth every cent!
This game shows you there is room for love and compassion even in the darkest moments of humanity.
If it doesn't make you cry, you're not human.

This is a very cool game, and I can recommend you to try it, even if it didn't work out in 2025-2024! And if you want to feel real emotions, to empathize with the characters of this game, then welcome, you will not regret buying this game!

It just gets boring at the beginning, and I gave up on this game for half a year. Now I regret that I abandoned this game, I hate the tasks of that nurse, the rest are interesting, but poking bandages is difficult! The ending is just beautiful and touching this game deserves the best goodbye Emile
A charming little puzzle game, beautifully made in the style of French comic book.
Beautiful and sad game.. The last scene was especially hitting hard. The only thing that I didn't like are hints that sometimes were not helpful, and I needed to look at youtube walkthrough.
its one of the best game i have played in my life.i wish my memory was reset to play this game again.i recommend
Great Game i love the flat art style.
VALIANT HEARTS: THE GREAT WAR 8/10
A highly enjoyable and unique game, coupled with an emotional journey.
Sadly a Ubisoft title without Steam Achievements but there are Trading Cards.
The puzzles do become a little samey and repetitive by Chapter 4, but otherwise definitely worth picking up especially if you have some respect for history.
It's a tragic story of a family torn apart by war. It's very educational and family friendly, while still being serious and dramatic. The soundtrack is beautiful. Some puzzles were a bit confusing. Didn't like fakeout death trick being used twice. The first aid minigame uses arrow keys for no reason and the tutorial for it seems to be broken, because I managed to pass it without hitting the beat right a single time, since I used WASD at first. Graphics aren't the greatest at high resolutions, you can clearly see low res textures in zoomed in sections. It's pretty good, but felt slow and not very exciting to me. 7/10
Nice game!
One of the best games ive played honestly worth the money
Beautiful story and nice visuals I recommend it to all
Quite brilliant
me sad :c
Game just stops working, will not let me move sometimes, hoping for a refund.
Story about WW1 which does a good job illustrating the cruelties and tragedies of war. It's also educational and provides factoids about the war sprinkled throughout. The gameplay itself is a mix of puzzle solving and light platforming. Also a pretty short game; I logged 10 hours on Steam and that includes a decent amount of time spent AFK. The controls are a little janky at times (particularly when controlling artillery) but the game is pretty forgiving with checkpoints so it doesn't get too frustrating. Bonus points for the goodest doggo!
Fantastic story! 10/10 recommended.
Every man can cry
Beautifully made game with interesting info about WWI
End always makes me sad
Saw this game on youtube when it first came out. When I saw the ending, I cried.
When I was really young, I wanted to play this game, but I did not have device to play it on. Our family computer was so old that it just couldnt run this game no matter what I did. I finally bought this game some time ago, but because of personal things I just couldnt dive into this game. In a span of 2 days I played it from start to finish.
After experiencing this game myself, even after all these years, even after seeing the end of this game dozens of times, i still cried. I cried even more in the past, even more as an Adult than when i was just a kid. 7
The story of this game is timeless
10/10 sentimental ending, overall the game is peak
This game hits hard tbh
I never expected the story of a french-american gay couple, a german twink with his family, and a french nurse living the horrors of WW1 could be so charming.
SLIGHT SPOILERS
Old guy joins the french military because he wants to find his son in law, he meets black guy and he asks him "are you from planet earth?" and the black guy says "no, I'm from America". they fight THE ENEMIES YEAH AMERICA and everyone dies except the old guy who becomes a god and realises "hmmmmmmm I suddenly want to become a painter so I'm going to change my name, have some hair dye, change my beard and move to Austria before becoming the TIME's person of the year permanently" which is what he does and he's so respected for his actions, they change the name of Germany to "not see germany!" in honour of his blind grandma
This game is just great, i would reccomend NOT watching gameplay videos before playing, that ruined my experience, but this game shows the horroers of war, so i pretty much reccomend it. :)
I cant recommend it.
First experience is that its a bad piece of software. The integration with Ubisoft Connect (?) was not smooth, the game cant handle my screens resolution, and it seems like on Windows 10 it has a locked framerate of 24 in fullscreen mode!?!? I was wondering why everything was so excrucuatingly slow and why the audio would finish before cutscene animations did.
So then actually playing the game you can see it didnt keep my interest for long. As a game it is a nothing, its just a sequence of canned animations, zero-time pressure QTEs, and "puzzles" which make me wonder why im even there to press the buttons.
I do appreciate the apparent interest in the real history of the war, and the art is neat. But they should have just made a sequence of animated short films with browsable "facts" in between,
One of my favorite games of all time.
Even tho gameplay was very simple, based around easier or more complex puzzles, the storytelling was amazing for such short game (around 5h). The ending made a tear drop my eye. I recomend this game for anyone who seeks some touching story
This game is so good, especially for relaxing
A short little game that takes around 6-10 hours to complete. Good music. Heavy subjects done in a respectable way and even quite sentimental at times. And finally, also informative. Recommend to everyone!
Absolutely no words. Remarqueable 10/10
I'll just post the lyrics of my favourite anti-war song
Von denen keiner mir zuleid was tat.
Dafür als Krüppel trag' ich Band und Orden,
Und hungernd ruf ich dann: Ich war Soldat!
Ihr Brüder all', ob Deustche, ob Franzosen,
How in ze hell Ubisoft managed to make a good game?
An absolutely beautiful game, the story is so heartwarming. Like a movie, I just love it!
Who was the first to visit Paris?
Best game ubisoft has ever made
Awesome story! Great historical diaries! Fun to play!
Playing for the narrative & knowledge, it got the feel on the war front.
Great game
Rating: 5/5
Narrative and Emotional Impact:
"Valiant Hearts: The Great War" isn't just a game; it's an experience that captures the essence of World War I through its poignant storytelling and heart-wrenching narrative. The game follows the intersecting lives of several characters, each with their own tale of love, loss, and survival. The blend of historical events with personal stories makes for an emotionally charged journey, one where you'll feel every victory and defeat.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is a beautiful mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and light action, all presented in a 2D animated comic style that breathes life into the grim setting of war. Each character you control offers unique abilities, with the dog companion being a highlight - not just for gameplay mechanics but for the emotional bond he adds to the narrative. Puzzles are generally intuitive, requiring just the right balance of challenge and logic without becoming frustrating.
Visuals and Audio:
The art style is both distinctive and evocative, with backgrounds that are detailed enough to immerse you in the era while maintaining a comic book charm. The soundtrack complements the visuals perfectly, enhancing the mood with its moving melodies and fitting wartime tunes. The use of historical artifacts at the end of each chapter adds an educational layer to the experience.
Replay Value:
While the story is linear, the emotional depth and the beautifully crafted levels make this game worth revisiting. The additional historical facts and the way the game pays homage to the real-life events of WWI provide a compelling reason to explore its world again.
Critiques:
The game might feel a bit short for some, and the controls can occasionally be a tad clunky on certain platforms. Also, while the puzzles are enjoyable, they might not offer enough challenge for veteran puzzle enthusiasts.
Conclusion:
"Valiant Hearts: The Great War" stands out as a touching tribute to the soldiers of WWI, wrapped in an engaging, educational, and emotionally rich package. If you're looking for a game that combines history, narrative, and gameplay in a unique way, this is a must-play. It's a reminder of war's human cost, told through the lens of a beautifully crafted game. Highly recommended for those who appreciate story-driven games with a historical backdrop.
Fun but not too hard puzzles and gameplay. Great story telling and historical facts mixed in that keep you engaged. Heart wrenching ending. highly recommend
I know that music plays a huge factor in linear-story-games, but Valiant Hearts visual story telling is still enough to convey strong emotional tones, on a first playthrough albeit.
Any who 11/10 walking-sim, made me cry at the end, that officer deserved the fatal blow.
Played this 10 years after its release, some parts of the game like some puzzles dont hold up well but the story telling, the actual history tidbits from the war the art style all tie together to make a really good experience, they cooked the ending as well. Ubisoft Montpellier makes some really great games, they need to do more before Ubi stops existing
Score 7.8/10
