No complicated skill trees, leveling up, or drawn-out cutscenes, just pure fun that gets straight to the point.
Where MAXIMUM Action shines is in its emphasis on creativity and replayability. The entire game has been designed as a sandbox for the player to experiment in. From simply approaching levels with different combinations of dives, slides, and kicks, to a fully-fledged level editor allowing players to create action in any way they see fit. Further, use the sandbox menu to replay levels with different combinations of weapons or add more enemies to up the challenge.
And with full workshop and mod support, experiment with hundreds of custom levels and weapons to spice up the action!
Getting the best experience out of MAXIMUM Action requires a bit of creativity and imagination from the player, and I understand not everyone is up to the challenge! But if you’ve always wanted to play a role in your own balls to the wall action movie then I’d say give MAXIMUM Action a try!

suppressed shotgun makes me feel like Anton Sugar
DIE HARD BOILED 3 PREDETERMINATION VENGEANCE RETRIBUTION 3!!! if you like those words you'll probably like this game think of 80's shoot em up action movies and that's the game with some playful jank. P.S its still in development. . . P.s.s . its got WORKSHOP SUPPORT with a custom level editor.
Almost 7 years and still not finished...that's a whole lifespan for wild kangaroos.
Amazing game. Such a fun game loop. Feels like I am in a real action movie. Cannot wait to see the full game
I love Maximum Action.
Only getting better and better.
This game has such a cool concept it has everything from an 80s action movie the glass getting shot the papers flying around in an office building dual welding but my issue is the price for how much content is given its not worth it and i know its in early access but theres not a lot for this price and its also kinda buggy AND THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS THE FACT THAT ITS TOO EASY when this game is finished ill probably buy it again cause it looks really promising it has a steam workshop the game is fun BUT TOO EASY needs to be harder.
the definition of "cool", "awesome" and most importantly: "badass"
I %1000 recommend this game if you like FPS action. And it continues to get updates all the time.
max pain for the PS2
I bought this game three years ago because I was a big fan of a Half-Life mod called "The Specialists" and I was hoping for some of that same juice in a singleplayer game. A lot of Maximum Action's ideals seemed to line up with that.
But progress has been extremely slow. In all this time I've owned it, Maximum Action still ships with a pitiful number of levels; maybe 30 minutes of content total. There's a few more if you go digging in the game's workshop, but there's a lot about that feels kind of weird to me. The base game needs more things to do without needing the community to carry that weight.
Maximum Action does receive somewhat regular updates, with feature improvements, but to me the gameplay still feels awkward. Loading this game back up for the first time in three years had me staring at guns on the table because I couldn't figure out how to pick them up (hint: this is one of those games where the use key is on F, not E). Gameplay has potential, but after all this time it still doesn't feel very polished or fully realized. Balance is all over the place; I feel like I get too much bullet time, too much health, enemies die too easily, and at the same time, I never feel aware of how much damage I've taken. When I die, it's always because I wasn't paying attention to how low my health really was.
Some of this stuff, like player state awareness, feels like basic, core functionality the game should have nailed down years ago. Instead, it's still loose and clumsy. How do I manage weapons? There should be an inventory screen or something. Picking up a shotgun I don't want means juggling weapons until I get the right combination in the right hands, and sometimes, I don't even want to dual wield (for aesthetic reasons if nothing else). But the game doesn't feel developed enough to let you manage that in a way that feels elegant.
Maybe in another 3-5 years it'll start feeling good. But for right now, it's not there yet.
7 years later you can still accidentally jump out of bounds
You can dive while firing two guns, then drop-kick a guy into an exploding car. What more do you want???
The new Player Controller update is an insane upgrade to the way your character controls and moves, I just can't stop flowing my way through rooms while I dodge bullets and slidekicking every enemy directly in the nuts so hard that I break the physics on their corpse, sticking them halfway through the wall and condemning them to an eternal, unending electric boogaloo of death.
So yes. I recommend the game.
Some 80's themed sandbox goodness; it is easy to play and interesting to look at. Well designed levels paired with eye-catching color combos present players with a stylish way of watching bullets fly. Workshop support and a custom map editor are present as well. Still pretty raw and janky but it is a great way to scratch an itch for flashy colors and explosions.
Max Payne if he wasnt a depressed alchoholic.
Some of the best shooting feedback in gaming
discovered this from a vargskelethor stream in 2020
even after finally purchasing it in early 2022 i still associate this with the specialists due to joel gushing over the slow motion
For a game made by one person, I love it. Sure there are some bugs here and there but I can forgive it given the circumstances. I grew up watching old school hong kong flicks and gun-fu movies, so I am glad that there is someone else out there that has as much appreciation for them as I do.
all i gotto say is dang
In retrospective 4 years later, splitting with new blood was probably the worst decision possible for this game. For "creative differences" you are left with a product that still feels inferior to when new blood developers were involved. Genuinely would have been better off canceling the project in its entirety than let it linger on in early access and get worse with each update. Its crazy to me that the gameplay felt more intriguing 4 years ago than it does today. Oh maximum action, what could have been is dead
This game is phenomenal love it. Full controller support and work's on steam deck when docked with xbox controller. This game reminds me of the die hard trilogy on ps1 but first person and lots of John Woo to make for a great time highly recommend.
I would say New Blood should drop this game but it seems they beat me to it lol
This is one of those old school games you can just sit down, enjoy yourself, and go through again and again.
The gameplay is fantastic, but i can't recommend this game because there's barely any content. these levels are SHORT. which isn't a bad thing if there are a lot of levels to play. the problems is that there are only 5 of them, not counting the endless maps.
You would think this would mean that they would make lots of new levels in updates, but updates are scarce, usually aren't major in anyway, and when they do involve the levels, its usually to tack stuff on that ruins the pacing. and custom made levels aren't enough to fill the void.
i Honestly think that this game is either being worked on lazily, or by a skeleton crew. either way, you're better off spending your money on something else.
early access for 7 years and counting, save your money and get something better that's finished, or just play fear 1 again
This maximums my action
80s action hero style hell yeah simulator
Love where they're going with the game 90s RNG, plenty of levels and custom made ones too, character customization, slight glitches but given the fact it's in its early stages not exactly game breaking, Hoping they do two player missions and that there are more to come.
F'ing Amazing ! if you love cheesy 80's action flicks, music and all. THIS GAME IS FOR YOU. Very impressive.
sweet, feels like a movie
ultrakill if it was stealthy??
best 20 bucks ive spent in a while (please add blunderbuss)
Strong lack of doves
the shooting in this game just feels great
Great 1st person shooter
Most games say "We can't give the player too much gear too early on, they should have to slowly unlock better weaponry as the enemies get stronger for the sake of game balance."
This game says "Here's an automatic shotgun with a truckload of ammo, near-limitless slow-motion and several corridors packed with enemies, go nuts."
Absolute banger. Also more games need Max Payne dive moves.
Hotline Miami x30
Really fun but way too buggy
the action is maximum
max payne 3 but polygons, SO PEAK
5.3/10
Maximum Disappointment
I have been anticipating this game after seeing gameplay and... I am left hollow after playing this. The AI is buggy and the animations are shitty. I understand that it's supposed to match an aesthetic... but it's executed horribly.
Gameplay is pretty fun... but it's wayyy too easy (one shot kills, really?)
It took me less than an hour to beat all of the levels. Absolutely absurd how 56 minutes of gameplay is $20. I bought this on sale ($13) and I still feel cheated,
If this game was around $10, I would still only recommend it if it went down to $5 on sale.
I understand that this is early access, but cmon.. after 6 years in early access I would've expected more.
just the game i was looking for
Pretty fun i wish i could shoot through the walls like the ai though
audio issues and controller binding resets. forget it
really fun
Holy this game is fantastic the community as well I can't wait when the game is fully out achievements and more maps etc this game has huge potential. Its like a mix of call of duty with Trepang and John Wick if they would do a threesome and have a baby. Soon this game will come out of Early aces check this game out and love to the developer.
Come for the Jank, stay for the gameplay.
Graphics - 1
Gameplay - 10
5/5 great game still getting updates
Beat it 3 times within the 7 hours I've played it, can say with 100% certainty it is one of the most fun games I personally have played to date.
This is one of the most unique games I have played. I bought it very early on and keep coming back. 9 hours is not the correct amount of time ive played this game. I'm nearing 45 hours of pure slow-mo enjoyment. I am current running the Test version to help out development. If you purchase the game i recommend you do the same after you get used to the controls. it is a small team of very passionate development. Keep up the hard work it, it shows with how fun the game is!
