Touhou Luna Nights is a Metroidvania title with a heavy emphasis on exploration and action.
Developed by Team Ladybug, creators of multiple fantastic action games thus far.
Story
“...Now, let’s begin my world.”
Remilia Scarlet, head vampire of the Scarlet Devil Mansion sends her maid Sakuya Izayoi with no warning to a world much like Gensokyo, but not quite.
A world full of strange places, filled with strange youkai and her time manipulation sealed.
What could Remilia’s end game be...?
What's special about this game
・Time stop system from character's Ability and Gimmick maps that use special abilities like time stop.

・Adapt the "graze" system of the Touhou Project into a 2D game, giving you a sense of tension in approaching to the enemy.

・Graphics that bring out the appeal of Touhou world, such as attractive dot Graphics.

A word from the publisher
Team Ladybug began with "Pharaoh Rebirth," continuing with other enjoyable games including "Resurrection of Beldia" and "Shin Megami Tensei SYNCHRONICITY PROLOGUE."
Since, I have been waiting in anticipation for their next project.
This time, they have created a fan fiction game based off the world-renowned "Touhou Project."
From the background to the character's movements and various skills, one can feel the creator's passion for games and love of the Touhou project.
While it has a Metroidvania style, the game can easily progress without the insistence of repeat elements or collecting items. This has resulted in a spectacular game born from the game production skills cultivated by Team Ladybug.
And I personally want to highlight the beauty of the anime sprite.
You can see the attention to detail the creator put into not only the leading character's movements, but the effects and enemy characters.
Touhou Luna Nights is not only for Touhou fans but one that can be enjoyed by anyone who loves 2D action games.

The BEST Touhou fangame there is out there, holy hell. Sakuya's moveset is extremely fun to play with, strategically stopping time and deploying knives is so cool. The difficulty, the music, pretty much everything about this game is stellar. I liked this game enough to 100% it and I NEVER do that, if this was on the scale of something like Hollow Knight I would flip.
A nice, short Metroidvania with some Touhou flavor sprinkled in. Not much else for me to say. The control is good, the pixel art is fantastic, the skills and abilities are a lot of fun, and of course the music is great! I would highly recommend this game to people who enjoy Metroidvania titles.
my queen
First touhou game i fully finished and it's PEAK
peak time stop peak bosses peak gameplay peak abilities peak characters peak everything
I've never been able to get into the Touhou bullethells, so this was a delight for me. I only vaguely know from online content what's even going on, but I enjoyed it none the less. Dat gameplay, especially.
I would say on of the fun Touhou games on Steam to be found. I greatly enjoy the gameplay and the abilities that has been given still keeping character wise. Achievment are easy to get, Fun overall. Greatly Recommended. You don't need to know about Touhou even if you play it.
Sakuya Izayoi juggling on her throwing knives for my birthday.
Got skill issue at the Remilia, Went in such hard tilt that I didnt open game for 3 years now
104/10
Short, sweet action platformer with really fun uses of the central time stopping gimmick. Note that the game pretty softly a metroidvania: progression is pretty linear and to my knowledge there isn't a ton of possible sequence breaking. Game's still great fun, though.
one of the coolest most unique metroidvanias i've played. possibly even in my top 5 of the genre
While the artwork and the animation are charming, the actual mechanics of Touhou Luna Nights work against each other in ways that make the game frustrating to play. To progress in the game, you rely on time-based abilities, slowing time down or stopping it entirely. One of these uses your MP, and the other uses its own meter. You have a decent amount of both, but this mechanic becomes infuriating with the introduction of the "red mist" and enemies who drain your "time" meter.
If you get hit by one of their attacks (very difficult to avoid when entering a new part of the map, since they're AOE), you become unable to use the "time stop" ability. The longer you stay in the red mist, the longer the penalty will be. You need the ability in order to progress, but you can get stuck in this state for up to 30 seconds! And after the effect wears off, you'll be back to 0 on the meter, which means another half-a-minute of waiting. These kinds of punishments become very frequent, very fast, making it feel like time really has come to a crawl, and not just in the game. Add to this the overall unpolished feel of the menus, a map with no real sense of direction, and tons of backtracking as Luna Nights' other shortcomings.
peak
If you like Touhou and Metroidvania you'll like Luna Nights. It is a short Metroidvania that isn't very difficult, with enjoyable mechanics and combat along with great music from Touhou that was a treat to hear. Even for 100% completion the requirements aren't absurd like some games and you should have them all by the end either way. Overall I highly recommend you try this game if you have a chance.
insame gameplay. goned insanely alot. game almost as good as working sakuya. will replay. my entire room is white because of this game. interactive gameplay. 10/10. will come again.
l love touhou
I love being confused!
ta gra to jest kurwa taka dupa że japierdole
I've played through this game for quite a few hours, and I plan for those hours to increase and increase, I've 100% the game and it's incredibly fun, the items are interesting and cool to use and the mechanics of the game are very well done and interesting. The one issue I would say this game has is the lack of harder and easier difficulty settings, but you can make the game harder yourself in cool new ways, I've been doing all bosses no hit, no jump, no time stop, no snail time and no skills recently and I intend to continue making the game harder and harder! Metroidvainias in general are an amazing game genre and are always fun to me, and well I love touhou, so to see a Metroidvainia combined with touhou is just perfect. I only recently got into touhou, starting with EOSD and stuff, but I Instantly loved the games and hearing there's a metroidvainia got me incredibly excited, and I was not at all disapointed. While the lack of difficulty options is a little upsetting, it isn't too bad, in all honesty, the main reason I want more difficulty options is because I just want more of this game lol, and having my main and only complaint being "I wish there was more" really tells the quality of this game.
Fantastic game overall. As someone who doesn't really care for platformer games at all, Luna Nights kept me interested and entertained. I think what instantly serves as a hook for the game is the time stop mechanic and how uniquely woven together it is. Whether its throwing 15 consecutive chainsaws at a bosses back or trying to figure out how to stop yourself from dying with only an inch of your life remaining, there is always something you can do with your time stop. Another thing that I loved was the sound design, you hear the same sounds over and over but something about *time gauge full* or *graze* just sounds so clean. Although the games story is quite weak and admittedly I don't entirely feel I will replay it (at least not anytime soon) I still wholeheartedly recommend for anyone looking for a short yet engaging and challenging game to play.
MUSIC:
The soundtrack is overall pretty good, not super lengthy and nothing too crazy that'll blow your socks off, but certainly not your highschool music theory class either. The mansion exploration tracks are pretty good in the background of studying, pretty good Minecraft background music as well. "Maiden's Capriccio" in particular is a track I enjoy putting on during cardio exercise. Pair with an Ultra Red Monster, maybe strawberry soju.

8/10
banger game all of the boss fights are tons of fun. The game is pretty challenging I played it on 0 hours of sleep so that prolly didn't help me but think the game still would have been hard if I had slept. The music is amazing 10/10 the art style goes hard. The mechanics are super fun making combos with the different weapons and time stop is tons of fun. 9/10
I think I got this game for free. It's a pretty fun metroidvania, you don't need to know anything of Touhou to enjoy either. My only complaint is the playtime is padded by grinding gems to sell for money and stats
room cleaning stop, maid cleaning stop !!
You combine danmaku and metroidvania NEVER again
Time-stopping vampire maid commits knife crimes in a perfect pixel art dream.
1000 knives out of 10. Would graze again.
a perfect metroidvania game 10/10
I'm very hesitant to call this short game a Metroidvania. It's not ability-gated but key-gated. Most of the abilities are quite useless.
It doesn't even feel like a full game. It's more like a New Game+ mode of an existing game. Your character gets an OP ability from the start, and the gameplay is not balanced at all. Using the timestop ability, I can cruise through most of the game while sleeping.
Most MV games are quite well-balanced, but this game is completely broken.
Very fun and visually pleasing game. I recommend grinding jewels and buying all the knives and clocks before heading into the first boss as the game becomes both a lot more fun and easier if you're not missing any items or abilities. Overall very solid for a fangame
DAMN this shit's good they gotta make another metroidvania touhou game
yeah dude you freeze time and shit this is like hollow knight if you could freeze time and shit yeah
this is hands down my favorite metroidvania of all time. not a single bad song in the soundtrack, the combat flow feels fluid and rewarding, and the art direction of touhou project translates perfectly to this type of game. the prospect of being able to pause and slow time being just barely enough to give you the edge against the bosses in this game is a really cool one, and the graze mechanic is super fun too. the levels all flow pretty well into each other, and exploring the different areas and finding hidden walls/doors felt awesome when it happened organically. my only complaint is that the game is too short. words will not do it justice. 10/10, absolute peak.
its just really fun
was pretty wary buying since it just looked like some anime crap but the gameplay picks up quickly and the bossfights are so fucking good. metroidvania with time control mechanics? one of my favourite games.
solid graphics and gameplay. it's just too short.
Thousand Daggers abuse goes brrrrrrrrt.
Takes a while to learn all the mechanics and "git gud", but when you do, it is super good. Fun and engaging bosses, cool abilities and nice visuals. Story was non-existent, buying upgrades was pointless (I didn't buy a single upgrade/potion, yet I completed both the main and side stories...) and exploration was really frustrating. The biggest problem is actually exploration - every time you move between rooms, enemies respawn and if you are unlucky, you can get some kind of stun lock and die. Oh yeah, and the last savepoint is like 5 rooms back with 5 more to the next safe place (of course it's only the healing machine, not the savepoint)...
It's a really good game, but it has its flaws. If you are looking for a cool challenge, I definitely recommend this game. I had a lot of fun.
Quick thoughts:
A somewhat small game, but very enjoyable precisely because of how lightweight it is. The game is just challenging enough for someone who hasn't played action games in a while and has next to no sense of direction when it comes to Metroidvanias.
The story is appropriately Touhou, light with a twist, and the fights are fun with just enough danmaku to feel like a challenge without feeling overwhelming.
The music is great and the animations are gorgeous.
the only bad parts about this game is that it's very short and you can finish it all in a day or two and that you don't have a lot of teleport portals throughout the map which makes back tracking a little bit annoying but overall it's a really fucking good metroidvania
music make me cum. also good game
A fun and satisfying game, it has perfect difficulty for my skills: not too easy, not too hard. The game has been beaten for 100% and I'm gonna try other Ladybug Team's games in the future.
It's one of the best Platform Touhou Game I've ever played. Soundtracks are straight up banger. The boss are annoying sometimes but it takes few tricks to complete.I love the pixel arts and how they Idle. I love this game!
Straight up 9/10 for me.
- short (affectionate) but could be shorter
- good boss fights
- good music
- best use of time manipulation I've seen in a game
- unfortunately doesn't make much use of the fact it's a metroidvania, it's almost frustratingly linear regarding what order you need to do things
- absolute-worst fast travel point placements I've experienced, which is funny considering this team's next game straight-up lets you teleport to individual rooms on-demand (PLEASE add that mechanic to this I am on my HANDS and KNEES)
Not familiar with Touhou as a franchise, but it is really cool to see it get a castlevania metroidvania-esque title. This should interest you if you like the more linear and combat-focused styled metroidvanias over more exploration focused ones. I really like the fast-paced combat with no waiting around (though some might not like how the time mechanics factor into fights), particularly the incredible fights throughout the endgame. Bosses and levels are just frustrating enough to motivate learning. Soundtrack is on point, and it is funny to hear a version of Voile that is trying to sound more like Divine Bloodlines. Fantastic parody and spin-off, absolutely worth the full play through.
a metroidvania worth checking out, even if you know nothing about Touhou Project
Great game. It's a little on the easy side difficulty-wise but still difficult enough to be enjoyable. The only thing I don't like is the lack of a reminder page of how to use unlocked skills (for when you don't play after a while).
defiantly one of if not the best Touhou fan game. As a metroidvania lover myself this scratches both itches and is one of the most creative metroidvania Ive played. and don't even get me started on the lovely pixel art. and the story while not a big deal in this game helps to fully invest you into it, and is great for touhou fans and new people too. 100 out of 10.
Throw 100 knives. Pause time throw 100 knives. Un-pause time throw 100 knives. Pause time throw 100-
Simply great. The main story will take you about 5 hours to beat give or take. Maybe less if you don't go around hunting for collectibles and power ups like me. A really good length and quality metroidvania.
The time stop and slowdown abilities are great, Sakuya controls extremely tight and each zone has its own unique enemies and ways to move around. At the start you'll dread going back to old rooms but soon you'll get the ability to stop time and jump on your own knifes to reach further places. The game is also not too difficult thanks to the GRAZE mechanic, where if you graze an enemy, you'll get HP, MP and Time back, same for their projectiles. If you use these mechanics during a boss fight correctly you'll win.
The boss fights are great. And so are the arranges for their themes.
Highly recommended!
