In this game, you play as a lone cowboy infiltrating a wizard's castle. However, he is wise to you and has set up traps to keep you contained. In each level, you must reach the gem to progress to the next challenge. You do this by shooting your gun at the bricks. However, only the gray bricks can be affected. Different ammo has different effects from cloning bricks to altering gravity. There are eight or so different ammo types introduced gradually throughout the game. There is a hint system (shown along the top). Every four minutes, the type of ammo that should be used is shown. I liked this hint system as it gave some indication of the ammo type you should be using, but four minutes can be a long time. There were several puzzles I couldn't figure out and the hint system was helpful.
Pacing for the game is generally good. New ammo types are presented at an appropriate pace. Once they are introduced, there are several puzzles that show different ways that the ammo type works and interacts with the environment and other ammo. The first 30 or so puzzles serve as in introduction with the last 30 or so puzzles bending your mind to its limits. There are some very clever puzzles hidden in there.
As a platform game, the platform mechanics are nearly spot on. There are very few "twitch" timing puzzles, for which I was grateful. This is a hidden gem of a puzzle game!
PuzzGun is a puzzle platformer, where you use a special gun to solve puzzles. The gameplay is pretty unique, said special gun is capable of changing grey blocks' properties depending on the ammo type you use, for example you can change a block into a spring that can bounce you up, delete blocks, freeze them so they can be affected by gravity and can be pushed and so on, and I haven't seen anything like this before (I do know there are Portal games where you use a portal gun, but it's not quite the same). The game has a decent variety, with new ammo types, and the last set of levels introduces a neat gimmick of a switch that switches grey and brown blocks. The story is pretty basic, you're a treasure hunter who had aquired aformentioned gun to find a treasure in wizard's castle. And that's it, the story isn't a focus of this game, rather it's level design.
The puzzle difficulty can feel a little inconsistent, some of them can have massive breaks, skipping majority of the puzzle, which I don't really mind, it does feel nice to outsmart the puzzle, and it does open up potential for speedrunning. Others, I had to look up a playthorough (the only thing I found was a speedrun actually, did I mention this game has speedrunning potential?). The in-game hint system isn't particularly helpful, every 4 minutes you unlock a step towards solving a puzzle, however by the time these 4 minutes pass, you likely have figured out half the puzzle already. I think a way this could've been improved is let the player choose which hint to unlock, rather than having them all in a linear order. Or simply not have a hint system and offer official solutions via guides. That being said, for the most part this game isn't that difficult, maybe because of aformentioned skips, I don't really know.
The graphics look pretty decent, I noticed that the look of the blocks is randomized, offering visual variety every time you restart a puzzle, and even then, the backgrounds look fairly detailed. There's even a little touch where grey blocks accumulate snow as the time goes on in the last set of levels, which I think is neat. The main character themself looks pretty small and kinda minimalistic, but is well animated. The music is pretty calm and ambient, you wouldn't expect a tense music while thinking of how to solve a puzzle, which is fitting.
Overall, I do think this is a rather neat puzzle game, it offers unique gameplay and some clever moments. I recommend you check out this little hidden gem.
Great puzzle platformer with unique gameplay and cool music.
I just finished 21 levels but I can see where this is going, the puzzle elements are briliantly done.
One thing I dont like is the platforming,it is clumsy and takes away from overall exsperince, just hope it doesnt get in the way later in the game.
PuzzGun is a great hidden gem for the puzzle/puzzle platformer fans out there. It is a lot of fun to use the different ammo in the game as puzzle pieces and new mechanics get introduced at a good pace. You can read my full thoughts here: https://whatevo.com/post/237/steam-summer-sale-retrospective
The titular "puzzgun" mechanic puts a novel spin on well-trodden puzzle-platformer tropes like gravity shifting, block-pushing, and teleportation, and serves them up through a nice progression of well-designed puzzles. Level design is constrained by unalterable tiles, usually leaving only one intended solution to be deduced by the player, but the variety of block modifiers create a possibility space large enough that solving the puzzles remains challenging and satisfying. That said, some of the levels did seem to have an alternate easier solution that allowed me to avoid parts of the level anA hidden gem.
Nice game, I wish more people play it.
I have enjoyed playing this so far. I like how even levels are not too easy, like in many puzzle games they are. Also great graphics and relaxing music.
Nice puzzle game, with a mechanic I haven't seen before.
I've only played for 1.5 hours so far, but the difficulty is ramping up nicely. (I'm on level 19 of 63)
(My only complaint is that the "Press Q for hint" thing appears too easily - I don't want a hint after only trying a level for a few minutes!)
Very nice puzzle-platformer, with relaxing music and challenging levels.
Thumb up!

Veey good! Nice idea in this game. Puzzles are great!
A very challenging puzzle platformer with emphasis on the puzzle.
First of all the aesthetic is pretty cool. At least personally I dig the old school DOS game look. And if you also like puzzle games that give your noodle a good workout, I can highly recommend this game.
The mechanics are interesting and original. The titular "puzzgun" has several abilities that make up the puzzles, and the abilities are mixed and matched in really clever ways. The difficulty ramps up nicely. I think it took me well over an hour to beat the first 21 levels. It's real chill to just sit down and try to figure out which blocks to shoot with which bullets in which order.
