***INEVITABLY SPOILERS***
Well, I would not ***really*** recommend it (would not replay even if I did not find all endings) for several reasons but did not want to down-vote it because the puzzles are really great and complex but make sense (with some help...), so if you are after good puzzles please play it. However:
1) the commands are really not intuitive, especially between inventory/game and close-up/game: the feet should be used to move scenes, not to close inventory or close up (back arrow is more intuitive) and makes the gameplay clunky
2) the story was not enthralling: not much of a beginning (what happened?) and definitely the endings did not satisfy
3) some hints would have been appreciated
I have mixed feelings about this one. Mostly the puzzles were not too challenging and that is fine if you just want a casual game to waste some time. It's a very short game which you can play in one sitting, probably 1-2 hours at most. I quite liked the art style which reminded me a bit of the Rusty Lake games which I loved. Now for the annoying part! The game ended really abruptly, I couldn't get back in to finish it, there were things I had not yet done and screens shown on the Store page that I never saw, so why did the game just end like that? I suppose I could start over but what would be the point? It would probably just end abruptly again. I'm a little bit miffed at this.
While the overall production quality of The Boy Who Typed Wolf isn't awful, the game is simply bit too easy, way too short, and the price point too high.
The Boy Who Typed Wolf is a puzzle game akin to older Flash puzzle games, a style from which multiple other games have spawned like the Rusty Lake series, Bad Dream: Coma etc. You have a small inventory and there's a bit of object hunting, but most of the puzzles are figuring out number combinations or words.
Unfortunately, this game doesn't deviate much from this type of puzzle, since most puzzles involve a combination lock of some kind. On the other hand, the combination locks don't manage to get to the point of boredom as you'll probably beat the game and unlock all the achievements in less than 2 hours.
So! I'm a big fan of these kinds of games (the Submachine games and Rusty Lake series being some of my favorites), and I've been looking forward to this game coming out for a while now, so I immediately picked it up once I saw it was available. The scenes are well-drawn, the puzzles are clever and moderately interesting, and the music is fitting--a pleasure to listen to and not monotonous.
However, I could see this being on a site like Armor Games rather than here on Steam.... and with more than a few bucks shaved off the price tag.
To start, I'm a bit confused as to the store screenshots and trailer.... (in screenshot 1, the triangle structure to the right of the wolf statue was not present at all for me ~ in screenshot 3, the golden thing that is in the circle was not present either. There were also a few things in the video that were not in the game for me). And now, technically speaking.... the game as a whole was rather short. I spent a total of about forty minutes on the game, the rest of my playtime being me leaving the game running as I left the computer to do things. While the puzzles were intriguing and certainly took a good bit of thinking to solve(and I'm sure they took some time to think up!), there were fewer puzzles than I expected for the price. I have a few more issues with the game, but I would rather not discuss them here.
So, all in all.... it's a neat little game, and I appreciate the effort and thought that went into it, but I cannot recommend it for the price.
TL;DR : Well-drawn, interesting puzzles, but definitely too short for the price. If you're not a big fan of this kind of game, then I wouldn't buy--if you are a big fan of this kind of game, then I would probably wait for it to be on sale for quite a bit less.
