Somehow had never come across this game until about 30 minutes before I bought it and it was everything I wanted in a game. It's the perfect balance of cozy and dangerous (mostly cozy). The world is fun, the story is light but nice, it feels so good to play and I love the way everything unfolds and is revealed. I just finished the last main quest, but still have a few points of interest left to tackle and I'm yet to fully play the DLCs--though I wish I'd bought them before finishing as they seem to not really be end-game content, but I'm happy to just spend more time in this game. I love it so much.
There are so many things I like about Dysmantle that it's hard to put into words what exactly it is that makes me get lost in it for hours at a time. I'll try anyway:
The hook is pretty much instant. Upgrades keep the carrot dangling nicely. The destruction is satisfying. It's calming. The moments of intensity can mostly be planned well ahead. Moments of frustration are few and far between. It's huge to the point of being almost a little overwhelming because there is so much to do. I keep getting sidetracked from the things I plan to do. There is so much exploration, yet you have to keep finding the correct paths to open up new areas. I love tearing down entire houses at a time and then collecting screens full of items. It's beautiful in its simplicity, yet there is so much complexity that you keep unlocking more items, upgrades, areas, etc. It is so well done in the way that it keeps you going.
has it all: survival, building, zombies, isolated fascist cults, time distortions, and doggies.
I underestimated this game, it turned out to be really fun!
Pretty good needs couple changes but pretty good game
A very fun game that suffers the same problem that a lot of games do and that is being about twice as long as it needs to be. The game starts out amazing, but very quick you realize that the game basically shows you everything very quickly and just pads out the rest of the game with the same stuff over and over.
There are only like 7 enemy types and are mostly dealt with the same way. Combat is very boring, repetitive and easy which is a shame because there's is much of it.
Despite these problems, my first 10 or so hours were some of the best I've had in a while.
Oh, and skip the DLC this game has more than enough content as is.
Sometimes you just wanna watch Netflix and "dysmantle" entire neighborhoods.
This game was a lot of low difficulty exploring, resource collection, and crafting. It was very satisfying to get off work and just smash things. Game played very well, felt polished and complete.
Break stuff. Upgrade your crowbar. Break harder stuff. Rinse and repeat. What's not to like?
Having put nearly 100 hours on this game, let me paraphrase the poet here - me likes. Can't say it is a story rich game, but the story has a twist. You start with a crowbar and can break some stuff and get materials which allow you to craft new clothing and tools and also upgrade current equipment which eventually allows you to break more stuff that gives you higher end material that is needed for further upgrades or higher end tools.
At some point you can even build a house, with decoration and such. Have to say that I didn't see much of a point of having a home built. Would be nice if at some point you started to get swarmed by bad guys at night and taking refuge at your home, with properly built defenses was your only option, would add a cool layer of replayability plus some use for your home base (apart for using home portal to store exceeding materials). The tower defense elements are already there.
Some usefull stuff is pretty well hidden if you don't follow a guide, like the power fist and the khopesh which are pretty usefull (not sure you can get all timed crates in time if you don`t have the power fist to clear a path). Even the sledgehammer which is kind of a must have to complete the game, needs to be found in a way that is not clear if you don't follow a guide (or simply try to 100% the whole map, which you'll eventually need to do anyway...).
While it is open-world most places cannot be accessed unless you have progressed "the story" to a point, which doesn`t bother me but sometimes it is a bit frustrating trying to figure out how to open a checkpoint just to eventually find out that it will simply open automatically at a certain point in the story.
All in all it is a great game, recomended.
Try'd twice now to get into this game. It's dry and combat is just not fun.
Good stuff, and it does take a while to finish which is nice.
eeehh I struggled a bit with this review. It's a good game. it does what it wants to do. My biggest gripe with it was the camera controls - you have to hold down RMB to move the camera. I would rather have an option for it to move without holding down the RMB, but if you press it down and alt tab out of the game, release it and go back in, the game recognizes it as still being pressed so you can easily move the camera without holding down a button for hours on end.
But aside from this lifehack, the game really does let you dysmantle everything... with the right tools. I may have worn myself out when trying to destroy everything. After playing through the Doomsday DLC and maybe 1/3 of the map, I just got bored. I know there are items that allow you to destroy everything more quickly, but the ark, the thing where you can actually use all those resources, was easily filled with everything i got from the DLC which was a bit underwhelming.
But overall, the game was a net positive, I would say. It was enjoyable, served as an amazing background for my new podcast addiction (The most prevalent for this one was DERELICT) and it has pets. That's always cool.
Oh, but the DLC thing. Pets come from the DLC. There are also 2 new DLC locations, which are cool on their own, but the most important part about them that I have to touch on is what they give you - a mechanic advantage. One DLC, Underwold, allows for traveling between campfires, not only towers. The other one, Doomsday, allows you to travel to fast travel points from anywhere. So, if you have both, you can just teleport from one part of the map to a given campfire or a link tower. In the base game, you can only teleport from a link tower to another one. On mobile I don't have the DLCs and I noticed how unfair that is, but the devs are a small team and have to get the bread from somewhere.
i had high hopes but i just can’t seem to get into it. i tried once and abandoned it, tried again and still no luck. maybe third time will be the charm :(
Dysmantle offers one of the most relaxing yet rewarding open-world experiences I’ve encountered in a while. What I love about this game is how it lets you decide the pace of your adventure—whether you want to take it slow and enjoy dismantling objects, or rush through the world gathering resources, it’s all up to you. The core mechanic is incredibly satisfying: anything you see, you can dismantle—provided you have the right tools and power.
Exploration is a huge part of the game, and the freedom to wander wherever you like without hand-holding is something I truly appreciate. About 99% of the objects in the world are dismantleable, which means you’re always gathering materials and making progress. You’ll need those materials to upgrade your gear, which is crucial as animals and other threats become tougher as you move through the world. It’s not just about getting stronger, though—your upgrades can also help you endure extreme temperatures or unlock other special abilities, opening up new areas to explore.
As for the story, I have not completed the base campaign yet so I cannot say too much. A big part of exploring is figuring out what happened and a way to get off the land. Random quests are scattered throughout your journey so you’re often finding little surprises as you explore. The gameplay is simple, but the addiction comes from how rewarding it feels to dismantle, upgrade, and progress.
I'm about 20 hours in and I've only uncovered 10% of the map. There's so much collectible's and unlocks that I still need to discover. This is great for completionists.
If you’re someone who loves open-world games with freedom and the satisfaction of breaking down and repurposing almost everything around you, Dysmantle is a fantastic experience. It’s the perfect balance of chill exploration and gradual progression that keeps you coming back for more.
You can break (almost) everything.
Fun little survival game. Similar game-play of Valheim but with modern theme and the crafting system isn't as complex. I've logged 20 hours, I don't know that I've got much more in me to play, after several levels it gets repetitive. There isn't much use in building a base other than to advance an objective. If you are looking for a game to sink a couple hours into that doesn't have an intricate story to follow and isn't too hard to jump in and out of, this is it. This is an interim game to play while waiting for a better game.
Man i played this game so much when i first got it that it took president before any other game.
Looting, killing, Dysmantling everything is just so...satisfying (The Dysmantling part mind you)
The only downside to this game is that it isn't online Co-op since this game is perfect for that, a really missed opurtunity since they could have just buffed the enemies a bit or added a few more enemies around to make it work!
I wish this game got a Multiplayer update, but as a single player experience its a must try if it looks fun to you :D
As it stands a solid 9/10 (The zombie dogs/wolfs stole the 1)
An enjoyable zombie postapocalypse sandbox. At first it's fun to explore new locations, learn new mechanics, and fight different enemies until a point when it becomes too tedious.
After exploring the first few regions, the sandbox aspect of the game begins to slowly dwindle. Progression is often locked behind some bottleneck where the player's freedom is very limited. While the game has a lot of destructible items (including walls, cars, fences, etc.), available tools are limited by story progression in such a way that there are not a lot of opportunities to bypass the developer-intended bottlenecks (which significantly saps the sandbox aspect of the game). The most egregious bottleneck is the quest to find a gas mask. This is not a main quest, and it's not really easy to discover without looking it up (or spending hours to explore every nook and cranny).
There is a good variety of enemies, but a few of them are designed in such a way that they are more annoying than challenging.
All of the main bosses have pretty much the same attacks, but each one is a little more difficult than the previous one (The Sword is just a bullshit spammer). And all of the side bosses are just a bit more difficult versions of usual enemies.
Overall I'd leave a positive review because I mostly enjoyed the game, but the final(?) "challenge" of the story has frustrated me so much that I decided to drop my playthrough.
The final battle of the story is a "tower defense" section where the player's escape pod is attacked by a horde of incredibly tanky zombies. Throughout the playthrough I didn't engage with the tower defense quests because I wasn't interested in them, and they weren't required for progression. But by ignoring those quests, I missed out on some unique resources that are mostly useful for other tower defense quests. Which led to a realization that I can't beat the final battle with just skill (as I could do with most of the other challenges), and I would need to spend a few hours completing other tower defenses. And at that point I couldn't care less, so I decided to drop the playthrough.
I might be addicted... might be... lol [HELP]
All those who seek to have a relaxing gaming session should purchase Dysmantle without hesitation.

This was a great game for when you dont want to experience a large learning curve. I completed all medals and achievements. Tips I'd give to beginners would be to sleep for bonus and to complete the medal, play around with the animal treats and deer. The deer give meat and when they dont run its a quick kill, plus another medal. Use those blue orbs and activate deadly ascension on the towers ASAP. I personally dont enjoy constantly killings all the mutants and you'll have tons of orbs to complete all obeliks and all towers in all DLCs. If i were to play through this game again, I'd do the DLCs first because of the cool abilites you get when you complete them such as campfire teleporting and tower teleporting. I only played 121 hours and completed everything and I dont see myself doing another play-through because there is nothing to gain from it. If they add another DLC definitely would play it.
So, I booted up this game, just to see if I'd like it.
Then 14 nonstop hours happened
I am properly addicted to this game at the moment, & I just found out that it is also available on the Switch!
I love the relatively simple premise of the game, but there is still so much to do & a huge map to explore! I'm used to hoarding supplies in other games like Zomboid & Minecraft, so I love the "break it down & take it" gameplay. What I really appreciate about this game, however, is that your storage is universal & limitless; game changer! Gone are the days of spending a real-life hour sorting & organizing all my virtual supplies. (even though that can be fun too-lol) Another highlight is the ability to control your frame of view. I appreciate the ability to readjust my viewpoint as necessary.
My best recommendation would be: if you enjoy Project Zomboid, you will probably enjoy this game. It's a graphical upscale with a similar vibe, but a bit of a guided objective.
Can't sing my praises enough! I am only a few hours into the game, so I'm sure that I've barely scratched the surface of what this game has to offer, but I eagerly look forward to finding out.
great zombie game and lots of fun.
Enjoyable while it lasts. A little bit too linear and constricting, in some places, for my taste.
Was fun for a while but it's limitations just get in the way of the fun and the Local-Coop is a sorry excuse of a multiplayer mode. Also the DLC's are definitely not worth it, just too low effort and cash-grabby.
I played this game before, but didn't put a lot of time into it. It will often feel like you are speeding through the content, but if you zoom out of the map every now and again, you will see that there is a LOT of content to this game. Also, a lot of people don't understand how difficult it can be. The version I downloaded came with all the DLC's and it's super worth it. I have enjoyed storing up resources and advancing my equipment as well as finding newer, better equipment.
I do wish they would show all the unlockable stuff when you start the game, but you don't find out there is more stuff to build till you level up and look at the building stuff. On this playthrough I have just now gotten to the point where you can build your own base area and I've found the initial teleporter that takes you to the area where you get a dog. It's been a really good time and relaxing in my opinion. Right now I am a bit sick so it has been good to sort of zone out with compared to other games.
I really dig this game. It's been extremely worth the price for everything.
A game I was compelled to complete 10% by the sheer power of the autism it entailed in me. You just want to break everything. You want to level every tree, rock, structure and small individual box to nothing. There is some intense satisfaction to be had in this game.
This game was exclusively a steam deck game for me and it worked spectacularly well, incredibly well optimised, no fan whirring, no spikes in battery drain, and very well customised in term of UI scaling.
For those acheivment hunters, you can achieve a 100% in the game in a single playthrough without a new game +, it takes some grinding and you essentially have to complete every aspect of the base game and engage in the vast majority of mechanics, those being crafting, building, farming and planning routes for various time trials.
My single complaint is that combat is absurdly easy. It doesnt take much to essentially master any enemy encounter, late game the only issue being any complex setup of turrets that may insta kill you when you destroy a shielding piece of terrain.
Overall, for anyone especially with a steam deck this is a thorough recommend. Jolly good show old chaps
Dysmantle
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
How does it feel to play?
I absolutely loved Dysmantle. The fact that 99% of the map can be harvested is such a killer feature for a survivor game, and the map is fucking huge. I’ve been playing this game for a few years now, and I still haven’t managed to destroy everything—trust me, I’m trying. The grind is real, and I’m here for it.
How does it look?
It’s got a very cartoonish style, but that’s actually a good thing. The lighting and shadows really help bring it all together and give it that nice, immersive vibe. It’s not trying to be hyper-realistic, but it looks great for what it’s going for.
How’s the soundtrack or voice acting?
Typical sound effects for the genre—nothing groundbreaking. To be honest, I can’t even remember if it had a soundtrack, but it’s one of those games where you’re more focused on the gameplay than the music.
Is it worth playing?
Hell yes. I’ve been playing Dysmantle since early access, and it’s only gotten better. It’s packed with content, and did I mention you can destroy pretty much everything? If you’re into survivor games with an endless grind and plenty of stuff to break, this is a must-play.
Finished the base game + 3 DLCs, great experience, so addictive. Thx for HRK for steaming and advisted this game 🥰
awesome open world zombie game filled with not just zombies but monsters and bosses and fun puzzles
One of the best post apocalyptic chill games I have ever played.
There is so much joy in smashing everything to pieces.
Zombies are just the icing on the cake.
It's a good podcast game. Sadly most cool tools are locked to endgame or DLC.
This is the most underrated game in my library. I don't know if it's my love of being able to clear an area but I think this game is one of the best I've ever played. So fun, very well put together, and oddly cosy...due to the clearing. I wish more games wouldn't respawn bad guys.
Great game, it runs really well on the steam deck and it's really worth the play for people who are casual gamers, it can be taken here and there. There's a lot to do, it has a good life span after 45 hours of game, it's really worth the price.
Furthermore, there's the satisfaction for those who like to collect and explore to achieve 100% ;)
awful predatory game that lock your save saying you need to buy the dlc to continue to play
Immensely satisfying game with well-designed progression. Building and cooking system isn't anything fancy but still fun to play with. My only complaints would be somewhat awkward targeting and tool-switching could be better designed, but otherwise there's so much to explore and smash.
Fully enjoyed this game from start to end, would highly recommend if you don't mind running around for a long time.
I did everything there was to do in the base game on PS5. I bought it again with all the DLC on Steam because I enjoyed it so much, and wanted to experience the game again with all the updates and DLC.
this game has so much better potential than what it ends up being. I love it but it's a disappointment at the end of the day. if you're into tedious grindy collecting stuff, you will get your money's worth of serotonin. but the map is HUGE and most of it is not worth exploring except to scratch the itch of your curious brain without much reward. combat is fairly easy -- you will die more often from accidentally dodge rolling into water and off of cliffs. the grind is endless and sometimes actually limited by time spent in game, which can be annoying when you happen upon the one thing that can further your progress but you have to wait 45 minutes in game to repair a bridge to get to the next area.
good game, could be a lot better.
I absolutely loved Dysmantle! It’s a perfect game for those who enjoy grinding and looting, with a satisfying gameplay loop that keeps you hooked. I’m waiting for new DLCs (hope there will be some) and an online co-op feature to make it even better. It’s especially cool knowing the game is Finnish - I even had the chance to meet one of the developers here in Finland!
this exploration / crafting game is really fun. there are some minor annoyances here and there but it is satisfying and fun to play. at the least it is definitely worth a try.
In a landscape full of "survival/crafting zombie" games, this one has stood out. The progression has been remarkably smooth, with a background story that keeps the side quests interesting. Heavy challenge in the early game, but so far it's avoiding the "boring grind" that can often drag games down in the middle. Roguelike aspects keep things moving, and the fact that the crafting aspect isn't being shoved into the forefront of gameplay is refreshing.
This is a survival crafter that removes a lot of the annoyances that come from the genre. No timer counting down to your death (hunger) food gives you permanent buffs. You don't need to spend hours organizing inventory it all just goes to one place with no limit. You don't need to craft ammo it just recharges at campfires. And of course the fact that pretty much everything can be destroyed for materials.
i know this is a phone game but very enjoyable on pc. im glad i didnt know it was. fun and loooong. exploring is very entertaining. i know real gamers are behind this game because of 0451. recommend.
Pretty good and addictive. It reminds me to those old school games like Justice League Heroes or Marvel Ultimate Aliance when everything used to going well playing with a friend in coop <3 10/10 love it :3
So after about 50 hours of gameplay, I 100% the game, and I have to say, this is quite interesting. It captivated me in a strange way that I did not expect.
Dysmantle drops you in the middle of an island where everything is destructible... provided you found the right tool and upgraded it enough. The gameplay loop makes you explore an area, find points of interest, get ressources to upgrade and slowly light up the map, all the while fighting zombies. It's a "checklist" kind of game, where I found a lot of enjoyment exploring new areas and seeing the completion go up and upgrades pouring in. It was, for me, very relaxing.
The overall quality of the game is very high. The art direction is very interesting, there were almost no bugs, everything was hand-crafted and running smoothly. The combat was not very difficult, serving more as a backdrop than the center stage.
This game is, however, quite bereft of story. There is a main plot, but it's really shallow and essentially consists of a couple of journals. For me, it was in line with the rest of the game and didn't feel like there should have been more, just not the focus.
All in all, not a lot of games make me complete every achievement and this little gem is well worth the time I spent with it.
Pretty addictive, fun action, gave up after 200 hours because getting too repetitive though
A hack'n slash where you mostly spend most of your time hacking into furniture.
The progression is good through upgrades of your tools and crafting of new objects that allow you to dysmantle more and more stuff. An open world map divided in regions where you can claim a tower so that the monsters do not respawn. The main quest makes sense and will make you explore the entire world.
Plenty of additional gameplay on top of this:
Farming, construction of your own house, puzzle dungeons, tower defense minigame, bosses, timed challenges, fishing, cooking, heat/cold, race to the prize.
You unlock tools, gears and trinkets by crafting them.
The combats are enjoyable as the dodge/roll and timings of your attacks are not that hard. The monster diversity is not huge (8 so far without the bosses) but it does the job
Quite pleasant though, one word of caution, you may not like the repetive dismantling part of the game
Spent over a hundred hours in co-op mode, smashing down all the houses and forests across this huge world, so you know that I got my money's worth. For twenty bucks, you get a wonderful exploration game that has a huge open world. However, the game does gets repetitive quickly, with many areas feeling unnecessary even while looking great.
There is something so satisfying about breaking down game assets in any video game, and 10Tons used this idea as the foundational gameplay of DYSMANTLE. We struggled to resist breaking down all the iron fences and army jeeps, even after we realized that they would yield no necessary resources. They made the animations and sound effects so soothing and enjoyable, whether it is the ka-thunk of the forestry axe or the clang of the sledgehammer.
The combat mechanics are very solid as well, although I had wished for maybe more variety. The weapons all have different speeds and it is easy to change between weapon types - even auxillery equipment - in the middle of a fight. The roll-dodge is well implemented, and each enemy requires different techniques. There is an interesting boss monster that offered some excitement at the checkpoints, too. And difficulty scales based on the amount of time spent finding and cooking recipes. You have more upgrades when you meticulously search out every kitchen than when you speed through to the quest goals.
Later in the game, there are many aspects that are very unfortunately underused: The mana portals, the building construction, the rifle, befriending animals, and "The Ark" all come to mind as parts of the game that initially seem exciting but are not used for much. We spent so many hours collecting resources for the Ark Quest, only to find out that it is not used for anything in the main story line. The game teases mana portals and building construction, right from the beginning, but it never gets used for anything interesting. It feels like they ran out of development time to fully implement these features.
Those negatives aside, the amount of content cannot be overlooked. The game map is huge and the player can choose which direction to go, most of the time. After finishing an area, the game encourages re-doing the area again with extra difficultly. After finishing the game main story, the game encourages re-doing the entire game again - again with increased difficulty. The question must be asked: is it worth your time to do it again? You will have a lot of time to think on that question.
Really looking forward to 10Tons' next game with this same gameplay. I think they will have ironed out some ideas that were not expanded fully in this one. Even with my obvious disappointments, it is impossible not to recommend this game despite those complaints. This game got my wife asking for video game time together, which has never happened with action games before. Bravo to that! We played on a Steam Deck with a "deck dock" using two xbox-style gamepad controllers. We had no technical issues either with the game or Steam's Proton compatibility software.
Pretty good survival/crafting type game with several good mechanics. Worth it if you enjoy that sort of game. I also highly recommend the expansions for the QoL upgrades once you unlock them - ability to fast-travel between campfires, ability to fast travel from anywhere on the map, etc.
