One of the best photogrammetry experiences. Very good thought-provoking story as well. A gem - obviously producted with a large budget and a highly educated team.
I do not get the story. There seems to be no episode 2 in the making or even planned. Since this Episode is released in 2018, I do not expect another release. If this would be a free VR experience I would vote thumbs up, but since it is paid and more a demo then a game or story, I will not recommend to stay awake for this one:)
I love this, nicely done, I wish they would come out with more VR apps like this one. Most of the VR apps seem to be geared towards the teen population, I am over 50, and this is so refreshing for me, keep up the good work.
Very strange VR experience.
Bought this game when steam VR test started for a nice 90% discount and am a bit confused. The game is quite depressing but a very cool game. I had no idea what to expect all I knew was it was a story game with nice graphics that’s VR.
The game is made by screen Australia (correct if wrong) and is a story about a couple that’s life falls apart when the husband starts losing connection with dreams and reality. I had a break and might continue but for the nice price of $1 it’s a cool experience.
The graphics are very interesting and something I haven’t seen before. It’s very immersive and all the people in the game look creepy but very real.
Definetly worth giving a go!
Yes, episode 1 is a truly engaging VR experience. With a story that wants to be told.
Sadly it is is not. One and a half years after launching this so called Episode 1 we have not heard anything about a followup. Which ultimately puts this in the category of 'VR tech demos'. Very nicely executed, also seems to have picked up some prices.
Thumbs down for making this payware when it is only a demo.
weird, very weird.
you do not do much but watch a relationship fall apart and an evil genius voice say he is trying to help
still not sure what to make of it so I will give it a recommend as buzzy is a kind reviewer
Very well made and intersting from a technical point of view. I was able to play on high performance settings. The volumetric video is impressive.
The story told in this experience is sad, most of the time you are watching things happening in the very same room, but that room comes in different states.
Your hands are tiny clouds that generate light, quite nice. Use your hands to touch stuff to get the story to go forward.
Note: This is episode one, but I don't think there are more episodes.
Note: Recommended on sale (or if you are interested in the technologiy behind this) only. It's quite short but impressive.
I bought this game because of some article I read about it using some new tech for rendering the scenes. Not sure what I was expecting, but right now it feels a lot like a tech demo more than something 'complete'. There was a lot of weird artifacting on the people (fingers webbing together, fabric flickering around, weird flat face for the female character, strange parallax effect when you look out the window during some of the scenes. Just a lot of overall weirdness.
The story was ok, but difficult to get into. It wasn't like some profound story that made me really care about the main character. Honestly, I wouldn't say this game is worth $8.
The negatives of this particular title aside, I'm really excited for the future of VR and cinema. I can't wait for semi-interactive and non-interactive VR cinema to take off and I'm happy to see that there are developers starting to get into this space more.
I have no idea what i just watched. The story was not enjoyable, but the overall experience is worth the price. The motion capture looked fine for the guy, but the female actress looked bad. The tech needs improvement.
I would highly recommend on sale, just to see what is being done on the immersion/graphics side of VR. Watch in high quality.
First and foremost, very pretty with a great storyline for episode one, Im very much into the technical side of computers and seeing how someone has finally used this tech for a game just makes me so happy, I cant wait for the next episode, although I do feel $10 for half an hour will result in a refund from a few users and the less than 2 hour playtime rule. That aside, a great experience
This experience was absolutely stunning from start to end. I've always loved narrative driven games like the former TellTale games and this could be the stepping stone toward that idea for vr. The idea of the "Awake" story really started to freak me out a little, like I took the Red Pill just by putting on the headset IRL. The only thing that took away from the experience was my lack of space. With no locomotion in game, you are at the will of your own two feet. In a more appropriate play area, the immersion can really pull you in i'm sure. The play area requirement by no means is a negative to the game, just more of a personal hassle (afraid of punching through my TV or Monitor). I'm very excited to see more episodes of this story released, and looking to see what other environments Start VR will drop us into.
AWAKE VR: Episode 1 is visually stunning, very evocative of dreams and very trippy. I have mixed feelings about the storyline but I'm quite curious to see where it goes next. Recommended! Buy this if you want to see more gorgeous VR explicitly dealing with dreams. I know I do! 😍 VR is a great medium for reproducing the delightful weirdness of the dream state.
Very good visuals and audio almost like you are in a movie! It's a little over 20 minutes with a few interactions... You definitely need room-scale for this, a small space is enough but if you have a bigger space you can get more out of it since you can walk around more and look at all the details up close!
Can't wait for the next epidsode, VR needs more of those kind of games!!
By far the best 6 Australian dollars i have spent in VR. I thank the creators for this. Awesome in depth story along with innovative work with virtual reality. I was and am still hoping for a sequel to The Final Hours and this adds one more to my list! I BEG FOR MORE!!!!
10/10 for the tech demo - the future of storytelling is here
6/10 for the story
If you have 10 minutes and 5 dollars to burn, then why not watch this
Things to add for the user:
Re-center button for seated users
Or... the old grip and drag posistioning system would work as well
Found myself in an awkward posistion a few times, and didnt feel like getting up and moving around
I'm just putting in a review to say that this seems to be loading fine for me on an Oculus Rift + Touch. There's no teleportation, so you need a pretty large space. And the system requirements aren't a joke -- it was extreme jittery for me until I went to the options and switched it from high resolution (GTX 1080 recommended) to standard. Also, it seems to be one of those games that doesn't have a quit button. But so far (I've only really just started) it's very pretty and the environment is beautifully rendered.
This gets me excited for the future of VR pron.
Rate 7.5/10
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
All joking aside, this is a 23 minute purely 360 cinematic experience experience with some of the best visuals in VR. There are two different settings: Standard and High Quality (1080 + 16 GB recommended). However, it's on the Unreal Engine and on my rig (1060), even on Standard, there was some jitteriness, especially when turning around to view. You can move in your roomscale and there are some very basic interactions consisting of having to move in your roomscale to progress. So you do need a bit more than standing room for this experience.
OMG! This experience is a MUST SEE! I read about AWAKE: Episode One on Upload VR and thought it looked interesting, but I was totally unprepared for how much of an emotional impact it would have on me!
It's short (takes me about 25 minutes cos I want to study every detail), but I've never had a VR experience quite like it - being able to get right up in front of these real characters and just want to go back in there again and again. Still working through the deeper levels of what the bigger story means. What a head trip, brilliant performances and cannot wait for more episodes!!!! Where is it all going???
5 STARS +
This is the new benchmark and a must see. It is beautifully layered on so many levels - music composition, art direction, story and on a technical level with its volumetric capture - its stunning. Hopefully this piece will inspire other creatives to strive beyond what they think is possible.
The experience is very impressive. Once you're in it, it feels real and intense. The story and dialogs are pretty good too!
