This is a VR game where you toss orbs to teleport past lasers. This is enjoyable during the first few levels. However, the problem is that the difficulty soon gets so excessively high and frustrating that the game becomes downright impossible to play. After reaching level 5, every area you can possibly reach is covered in some way by lasers. You must be absolutely perfect with your throws too because you immediately teleport where ever you toss the orb, which is most often in view of one of the many lasers that kill you if they touch you even once. Every level also looks exactly the same, which are dark boring lifeless metal corridors with crates and lockers. This one started out fine, but soon became unplayable for me, so I cannot recommend it.

This game's only moving mechanic is to throw a ball at a spot you wish to be teleported to, and that is exactly what's broken. I mean it occasionally works, but what good is that? Take Half Life Alyx, for example - if I throw an object (say, a grenade through an opening), it goes exactly where it's thrown 100% of the time. And that's not even the main mechanic of that game!
But in this game - it is. And it's bad. Played for 2 hours, and I'm rather disappointed. It's games like these that make non-VR people stay away from VR.
This marks it a 4th game to be added to my "Shite - don't play again" list
It's throwing-based puzzle with stealth elements and extremely frustrating enemies. I liked it at first but with every new level it was becoming increasingly unfair to the point where I had to stop playing it at the final room.
I enjoy throwing in VR as it is one of the gameplay mechanics that are unique to this media. And it's pretty good and challenging in Orb Labs with no assist to projectile speed, as far as I can tell. But the game requires way too much precision with far away throws at later stages and punishes you with instant death even on small mistakes. Add to this big open rooms where sometimes you can't even see where all the enemy turrets are located(since everytime you try to look around the corner you get killed) and the result is extremely frustrating 'trial and error' core gameplay. Final room was the worst example of that: I died few dozen times before giving up without exploring even a half of it.
Visuals are decent and lighting is pretty good, but the levels themselves look all the same with a lot of boring corridors with nothing but crates, lockers and pits.
Also there is a consistent visual bug that makes parts of the level look pitch black until you get close to them. The bug was fixed

Old/Outdated Review: (Please Read Updated Section Before Deciding if this game is for you)
Broken awfully. The ball physics are so badly designed it feels like no matter how you throw it it always seem to fall way further than you wanted it to. This makes the game hard to control at best and unplayable at worst. Most of my playtime was spent trying to hit the menu to open the game. On top of that there only seems to be one song in the entire game (at least as far as I could get. It's the same royalty free music you hear in many budget titles. Why it's the same song in every lift though I have no idea as it's not like there aren't more free songs that could be used. Over all not impressed with this game. There are far better puzzle games for free. Not worth the time or money.
Update Following Patch:
Ok so the developer got back to me after I complained about some of the problems I had in game and it turns out it did have a bug when playing on the rift s. After a few days they came back to me again and told me it should work as intended now. I was impressed that the developer got back to me and fixed this problem and that they had gotten around to it so quickly. I decided to give the game another go to see if it was better now and and happy to say that it feels like a new game. Some of the puzzles I found really difficult before felt far more fluid and enjoyable following the patch. This allowed me to get further into the game and I could see there was more to it than I first expected. Id say it's worth the price and a decent vr title.
There are still some improvements that could be made. I wouldn't mind seeing the right thumb stick used to turn you're character like in some other vr titles and as I said in my previous review I would like more music in the game. Though as the developer explained the idea is to be more stealthy so the silence does work in that case and I do understand the joke that there is a normal looking lift in a dark sinister lab so I guess that's more a matter of taste than a negative.
Other than that I do think this is a vr game well worth playing. It seems to mostly have gone under the radar with only a small number of review and seeing as the dev clearly cares about there game well that's one thing I am very happy to support. I'll be keeping my eye on this dev's future projects and introducing orb labs as a fun introduction to VR if anyone I know wants to get into it.
Absolutely unplayable. The physics of momentum on the ball is broken. I tried 20-30 times throwing the ball at the opening menu and it just fell to the ground like I dropped it. After the 30th try I was able to finally hit the menu choice and I had to do it again with the next menu. Then, again... hundreds of glowing balls on the floor and I couldn't even turn on snap turn. So frustrating I almost chucked my controller at the wall. Never even started a game. Not sure I would have been able to if I wanted to.
Has anyone got it to work on Quest using the Oculus link?
Can pick up the Orbs but can't throw them.
Fun game so far, not a good idea if you're in a small space and can't swing your arms.

Fun until about level 10, where it is just too hard to play using these rubbish vive wands (which are not built for accurate VR throwing).
Also, runs like a turd on my 2080ti super-system. Level 10 drops to a continual 15fps! Be warned.
This game is very exciting! Avoiding lasers can really get the blood pumping!! The maps are very cool, and the graphics are amazing. Very immersive game(be careful not to run into your wall to escape lasers like i did cus it hurts! Haha.) Throwing the orbs is a great idea because it makes it more challenging. This game will provide hours of enjoyment to your life! I thought it was going to be Budget Cuts redesigned, but its not even close. Not sure how many levels there are yet but so far it has been well worth the money! And no bugs or crashes which I cant say for many other games Ive played in VR. You will not regret this purchase!!!
You definitely get more than you expect in this game. Throwing stuff around all of the time is fun once you get the hang of it, but frantically avoiding lasers is even better. It's no AAA title, but still feels pretty polished.
It's a lot of fun, feels pretty polished, and makes you think. Throwing is, obviously a big piece of it. I can see why some say the throwing is "off" but I can tell you by flubs were my own. I think the throwing is fine. I'm not through the story yet entirely but if it can be expanded with new challenges/puzzles/story/content it might compete a bit with Portal.
I use a vive and had zero sickness. Again it's fun and creative. Definitely recommend.

I decided to post a positive review because I am enjoying the game. I decided to do a review in progress mostly because I have played 2 gaming sessions and each time I started to sweat. Could I have kept going? Sure. But I just don't like getting my HMD all sweaty.
So the first thing to realize about this game is that you will be doing a lot of throwing. A lot of trial and error throwing. You have these orbs that you throw around that have different effects. The main orb is the teleport orb and is how you navigate around the game world. Which is just a bunch of corridors with enemy traps. The throwing mechanic is cumbersome. For me it was the worst part of the game. It just didn't seem to go where I wanted it go. It seemed a little too heavy. Like you're throwing a bowling ball instead of a tennis ball. You do get used to it, but it seems you really have to put your body into it to get the ball to go any kind of decent distance.
I enjoyed the puzzles more. The problem is that the puzzles at least in the first 4-5 levels have less to do with solving than with proper execution. Still, it feels fun sneaking around and outsmarting the level. However, you do need full roomscale setup to play this game. You will be ducking, dodging, crouching and getting behind cover. You have to physically turn. So these puzzles are not just endurance and brains, it's also quick reflexes (although you can anticipate some of the quick moving you'll have to do).
I did not like the alarm sounds. It was a little too loud. There is a lot of text to read, but I'm pretty sure that's just optional flavoring for the story. I think the game is about 5 hours long based on what I've read so you're getting good value for the money.
Rating TBD. It will take me a while to finish the game if I only play this game in 20 minute stretches. But I definitely think I've covered the main points. I would be surprised if I didn't give a full review with a positive recommendation based on my gameplay so far and what I've read. This game should get more interesting.
If you don't like throwing in VR, this game is not for you. If you are totally frustrated by dying and having to retry the last few seconds, this game may also not be for you. You will die a lot (but there are so many savegame spots in the game that you really only have to repeat the last few seconds). For everyone else: it's a ton of fun!
The game is a unique mixture of skill (throwing), puzzle-solving (get past those lasers without losing too many orbs) and action (jump against your furniture trying to take cover). You will constantly be trying to beat that last/next situation. And it's such a good feeling to reach that elevator! :-)
After about 3 hours, I'm about halfway through the game, so the 5+ hours are probably ok. Which makes this game a pretty good value. There's also a back-story, but I skipped that, so I don't know whether it's any good. Negative points: the decorations and sound are a bit repetitive, which makes it hard to orient yourself, the alarms are extremely loud, and sometimes stuff glares too much.

I think Orb Labs Inc. is an awesome game.
Navigating and activating the orbs through throwing them is fun and a cool idea. Also, the puzzles to solve are nice balanced between figuring out a (more or less complex) plan how to pass situations and the skills necessary to fulfill your ideas. Beside the cool gameplay there are also funny elements in story and items to collect.
I'd say that this is a great game for everyone who likes puzzles games.
The game looks really it's a relatively original idea (from what I know). However, the game is not difficult, but tedious. You cana try it for yourself, since this is a personal thing, but I do not recommend it.
Awesome action-puzzle game!
Orb Labs, Inc. is a fresh breeze in the world of VR games.
It can be best described as (action-)puzzle and with that definitely reminds me of "Portal" in some moments.
The main mechanics of this game is throwing orbs. It is easy at first if you accept a certain variance of your target position. The fun challenge is to master this throwing technique, becoming faster and more precise, which will help you beat later levels, especially on higher difficulties. Later in the game you really feel like some kind of orb-ninja :)
Another great plus of this mechanics is the immersion. You really feel like getting the hands on a new technology. Teleporting becomes reasonable (to some extend), unlike traditional "point-and-click"-navigation. And each new orb (cover, decoy, ...) adds to this experience.
Speaking of which, using the different types of orbs to get around the puzzle rooms requires good thinking and even action-packed evasion moves. You teleport, hear the alarm, crawl behind a box, grab the decoy orb,...
But there is always a multitude of possible solutions and an extra challenge is to get to the floors with as few orbs as possible. Due to fairly distributed checkpoints ("reconstruction machines") the frustration is reasonably low (most of the time ;)) and you are always eager to try "just one more time".
You wouldn't expect a deep story in that kind of game, but infiltrating an underground lab to uncover the shady experiments of a company is enough to get me going. Plus, there is even more backstory to discover, if you have the patience to read each and every hint on your way down ;)
After the story mode, you can try a higher difficulty, explore the floors for all the collectables and then... try the challenge mode, my personal highlight! Beating each level as fast as you can with only a few orbs is so thrilling and... well, challenging... I love it! Come, beat my WR :)
Polished gameplay, nice graphics, innovative ideas... and it's only a few dollars!

Most of all I like the way to walk and play with the Orbs: i'ts not so easy to throw in exact the right point. Thats why u even have more fun and sport when u go through the tunnel (I was really bad at throwing but it gets better...).
If u don't know what to do, there're many humorous explanations in the hallways. They're sometimes maybe too detailed but good to have for the first game.
Now the riddles: the first ones are really easy but at the latest in the fourth level it get's really difficult and tricky. That's because the first lasers only go through the hallways, but then they follow u so fast, that u have to crawl on the ground, jump or hide behind some boxes. With enough space in your livingroom u can get so much fun and probably look crazy to the viewers.... :D
For all of u who really love riddles, are tired of boring shooters and really want to go INSIDE a VR it's the perfect game to start!! I really love it :)
Great Game - I loved the new concept of moving (hiding from lasers) by throwing so-called "Orbs". You have to figure out how to get through a secret lab that is full of dangerous lasers. Even though the visiuals and the music are quite dark, it isn't a scary game - more like a mixture of a puzzle and skill focused game. It incorporates a nice background story and plenty of jokes. I am enjoying it very much!
For all those who are sensitive to cyber sickness - I am too, but this game did not trigger it at all! :-)
