You wake up in an internal representation of your conscience where your goal is to collect 100 memory fragments throughout increasingly complicated and increasing in size procedurally generated levels, or dreams. These levels are illuminated on easy and medium difficulties but dark on hard and impossible ones! You have a Photon gun that you can use to light your way up and fight enemies as you go through these levels. Initially this is only in form of colorful balls, or photons, that your shoot from your gun but ass you collect fragments, the upgrades will become available for you, such as a flashlight attachment, a scan grenade - that shows an outline of the world around you and highlights points of interest, as well as spawning/revealing unspawned/hidden enemies and killing the ones that are spawned. Once you collect 100 fragments the final room will open where you can go to end the game.
To provide maximum replayability, level generation is based of a Pseudo Random Number Generator. The seed you choose or randomly generate when starting a new game will dictate how your levels look, what they are made of, how many fragments you will find in each level and etc. This means that you can complete the game on various difficulties for the same seed, or various seeds for the same difficulty and every time it will look different.
PD features 4 difficulties: Easy, Medium, Hard and Impossible. Based on your chosen difficulty your gameplay may be quite relaxing as you quickly go through levels or very challenging - if you feel so inclined. On easy and medium difficulties the levels are illuminated! On hard and impossible you'll have to navigate your way in the dark, relying on your Photon Gun, Scan granade (Unlocked at 30 fragments) and of course your skill! The tiles that make up your level have a difficulty rating from 1 to 10. On easy, the difficulty rating increases slower, on impossible - every fast. As the difficulty keeps increasing you will find that the levels will be made up with tiles that are increasingly trickier. We have to admit higher level tiles give even the calmest of us an urge to smash something. Levels also gradually increase in size - more so with harder difficulties.
There is also an assortment of various barricades, traps and pickups that will also spawn for you.
Most of the music in-game was composed specifically for PD, by a very talented friend of ours, Toteki. However you are welcome to turn it off through settings and put some of your own chillout (or adrenaline pumped) music in the background. Overall we aim to provide a mystique filled ambiance with just the right challenge level for you to spend your time.
PD was made by a very small team. We are as indie as it gets. it's our first game and we sincerely hope it is worth your time and money.

The levels are like a first person version of the first Super Mario game's levels; the platforming is a bit janky as the jumping does not always connect buts its stills fun to play a platformer from first person perspective. If you play the game with the levels illuminated it makes the gun kind of useless, aside from shooting the baddies there is not much reason for it or the scan grenades so I recommend leaving the levels dark. I liked the setting and wish it could have been explored more.
Doesn't seem to work with XBox 1 controller. Aside from that I know nothing!
Light - nice
Music - nice
Game - nah(
Dope shit!!
So it's a 3D platformer, where you shoot the only lightsources - bouncy ones. If that sounds like fumbling around in pitch black darkness, you are right! It looks great, but it also has some programming issues. Stuttering while almost clipping, resolution failing to change to native, CHANGING MY KEYBOARD TO ANOTHER LANGUAGE even after closing the game...
Not ripe yet, but promising?

It's short, but a great simple game for chilling, exploring and challenges. Nothing major I know of.
I got on sale so gave it a shot. I found parts of it annoying. Like the constant sniffing you hear from the player...why do that? The need to hold and twirl levels locks the character in a stance and throws off your direction at times too and with needing to move fast past a barrier, that direction is important.
The darkness is overwhelming and you end up in like a tunnel vision most times. Hard on the head. Being stubborn I kept going until I reached the end.
On the plus side:
Cut scenes were good,
Idea and concept good,
I liked the upgrade system,
For those who don't mind the dark vision there is replayability at different levels.
If you get on sale, worth giving it a shot IMO. Not on sale you need to be someone who is patient and can put up with the constant level do-overs that will happen with the limited control of the jumping mechanism. Maybe if the darkness was a little less like the start of dawn, would not affect vision so badly.
nice one
reminds me a bit to Portal. Not that creative and innovative, but at least creative an innovative enough to get this feeling.
Story confuses me a bit. Some more background story, would be nice. But i definilty can recommend it.
7/10
One of the jankiest first person puzzlers I have ever played. You can't even change the resolution, unresponsive controls, some of the "puzzles" seem to be entirely trial and error type. It looks and feels like total junk.
A note to achievement hunters: while achievement count for the game itself does increment, the global count (your total achievements across all games) does not.
Don't think your life can be worse? Try the impossible mode! Especially if you are into self-torture!
...got photonic distress recommended by a friend, usually I am not very easy to convice from independend published games...glad I gave this game a chance !! Really like the oppressive mood and dense atmosphere. Plot and gameplay are extraordinary. Graphics are not necessarily the main topic of the game, though they arent that importat, as most of the pathways in your subconsious mind are dominated by the black abysses beside it. Shooting photons at your environment to highlight it is really a nice idea and effect. The music is catchy and smooth, won't take long for you to get in a flow with the music and your photon gun !... I recommend to play it without any light in your room to increase the feeling of the game. Result: Fun game - love gameplay and plot and...finally really like the idea of playing a shooter for puzzeling !
It took me a while to get the jumping parts done, but after failing a few times it is so much sweeter to actually get it right. After finishing it on "Easy" I thought I pick up the challenge of trying it on "Impossible". And oh my, it is challenging. I do like it that way though, figuring out shortcuts, using all equipment at hand as to not use up my photons too quickly. A big plus while failing and retrying is the ingame music. For me it represents a good mix of "let's do this" and "don't take it too serious"-spirit. The music AND the glowing effects fit nicely together.
I do recommend the game. Pick it up, play it on easy first, get the feeling for timings and distances!
TL;DR buy it, both if you want something different or trippy and relaxing or harcore
Man, I dont usually do reviews but hell, I gotta story to tell:
When it finally downloaded, I set down to play it under (locally legal) influence of a certain plant. I dont know if the game was made for this type of experience but HOLY BUDDHA'S WHISKERS it's a BANGER.
The lighting, the colors.... that slight foggy ambience... The little fireflies that spawn around you when you stand still in perfect darkness... The music variates from a upbeat tune to angelic chorus...
At one point I found a box that caused the sun to come out. When I first opened it I just stood there and looked. The path ahead disappearing in a fog with the evening sun creating soft shadows... It went out too fast.. I wanted to see the same picture again, I wanted the moment to experience the same unexpected delight just one more time... I dont know why I tried to activate that box again, even though it was already open. I didnt expect it to work. BUT IT DID. At that moment I felt like I asked something from the world and it responded back and granted my wish. I probably spent 20 minutes looking at that view, reactivating the box every time the light went out.
I still havent finished the game but I saved my progress on easy and out of curiosity started Impossible. It actually looked easy from the beginning. Yes the balls are more expensive but having that generator room you can generate lots of ammo. But I kid you not, after several levels it overpowers you. I want in the condition to tryhard it so I am going back to completing on easy first. There are a couple of jumps that make me rage but I think its a matter of getting used to.
Overall I can definitely recommend it, its really polished, beautiful and original.
The devs have done a great job with this novel approach which also utilizes, imho, one of the strong points of UE4, the lighting. It's beautiful. The music, although I'm not even thát much into electronic music, suits the game well, it's a nice relaxing game to play in between some more.. violent or hectic ones.. :)
Even though I lack a little in graphics card power, it runs great, I haven't run into any problems. For a first release of a small crew, it is really worth a look and promises more for the future! Novel gameplay, good replayability and a good eye to details and graphics. It's different. In a very good way. :)
yeah i can recommend the game. Cause it's well produced. i dont know if people gonna like it, cause it's different, but it's a really fun game. the light effects are really cool. What about music? will there be more?
WOW! I thought indie games are supposed to be a pixelated crap??? This is gorgeous! Very well made and detailed graphics with fun gameplay and amazing sound. I died a lot in the beginning but you get used to it.
very original and fun concept, well executed. Cant wait to unlock the ending!
love the achievements too.
spoilers... this game is Hard, i love it.
i bought that game today and i played it about 5-6 hour now. in short, it's fun. i saw there is no ingame hud, that is not common and really nice. the light idea is also fun. really something different.
edit: thx for the update
This game is awesome. I was looking for a game that is fun, easy to pick up and does not require multiple hours a day of playtime to be good at and have fun. This game delivers on all of that and much more. Every level requires only couple minutes to finish, so you can pick up game for small intervals multiple times a day without getting bored or dedicating big chunk of time. Game itself is very fun to play, pretty and puzzling. If you are looking for something fun and different, you should definitely check this game out.
