Evaluating this in the era of short-form games and counting the two included acts as if it were the full game... I still can't make a good recommendation on this one for one reason.
The controls.
Maybe it's not designed around Index controllers, but on those, you have to click the trigger instead of the grip to grab anything. And the hit detection is bad even by the standards of 2018 - the potions are quite hard to properly open and many times, I've had my hand over an item only to grab something else completely.
It's a shame. The core game design is nice.
Not interesting, original, or even all that good.
I mean it's 10 bucks, Don't go expecting something too good...
Meh.... kinda short and boring, extremely laggy, beat it within an hour so i got my money back
it's fun but the story is way to short, if i could put neutral i would but as it is right now it is in need of an update although that probabely will not happen anytime soon.
a shame i really liked the game and story
This game could have been amazing. However, it has been abandoned for years now. The early access period was stated by the developers as "We will be in Early Access for roughly 6 months". Five years later the game sits gathering dust. I highly suggest you pass on purchasing this game unless you can get it for less than $3. This game is much more of a tech demo than a game. So VERY LITTLE content to justify the price.
It has some bugs and is a bit janky but it's still in early access and is super fun

My daughter bought this game a while back for the Vive and loved it, but eventually lost interest as there isn't much content. Fast forward a few years, reinstalled and it crashes immediately. Tried trouble shooting, reinstalling etc... but nothing works and the developers have seemed to have stopped developing it. Others have complained about it's lack of support and compatibility.
the game concept is very intresting. BUT FOR REAL. the simulation of freedom in this game is so huge and decieving. i asked for a refund already. you cant brew anything you wish for. you can only brew by recipes. recipes by the way are different, but the results are exactly the same. in this game all you do is brew different stuff to make the same item. ONE OF THE WORST GAMES IN VR I'VE PLAYED.
Game ben dead for years, and they never coming back to this game to finish thier EA of a good game. Even tho they promised they would return to it.

They said they doing a bigger project, but never told us what it really is, or what they ben doing for a long time.
Ive not played this game for a long time because i wanted to play it again when they added more story acts, or content in general.
Sadly that never happend for a long time now.
It only has 2 acts in the story mode. They wanted to make a 3rd or 4th act.
The infinity mode is bugged and can easly break anytime when combining or cooking items for the costumer.
If they ever return to it some point of time/year. I'll reconsider changeing my review to positive.
Because of an excuse to leave the game behind for a bigger android/mobile project since 2018, it´s considerd abandoned.
If you are wanting to try this out on a new VR headsets like Oculus quest and the like. Dont buy this then, cause they never made the newer headsets work with the game, and didnt add support to the other VR types since 2018. No proper scaleing options, its only shrink to small or grow to giant, and It does not use player scaleing for gameplay.
There is about 6-8 types of combinations that are able to be crafted in the game, and the brews are only about 6 types of brew for plot in the acts.
About 3 types of tool "Upgrades" for each tool you use in the game wich are; Grinder, knife, and beer mug.

if you are thinking about getting this game get it, it isnt that hard and with the different size settings anybody can play if they have a basic understanding of images to real objects.
The game may currently be dead... but playing the story that is available right now, trying to unlock everything in freeplay or just enjoying the atmosphere is well worth it!
While I have found alot of bugs, none were actualy gamebreaking but anoying at worst.
Overall: Great Atmosphere with good Graphics and some nice Music, Fun Gameplay, but only an uncomplete Story and "limited" replayability... I give it an 3/5
I've only played a short time but so far this game is absolutely amazing. I saw my son watching youtubers play this ages ago and since we finally got an oculus quest 2 for christmas this year (which i'm thoroughly testing before santa drops it off on the 25th LOL) this is my favourite game so far. It definitely needs some polishing as there are some clipping issues.
I'm not sure where development is, but this game really needs a boost. It has so much potential. Right now it's easily worth your money as it's very cheap.
Great graphics, great audio, great playability, original idea. 9.5/10, they can have the other .5/10 if it makes it out of early access
Its now October 2020 and still no updates. Sadly at this point I would call this game dead. Fun to play and follow along with the campaign, sadly with no recent update I can't recommend this game to anyone else.
Its really fun! I like the character designs and the story, but its really short with only 2 acts and when youre fisished with that you can only really mess around in freeplay, wich will get kinda boring after some time...
I will just call it a 7/10.
Also PLEASE Update it!!!
the grabbing system is way off and there isnt much accuracy and i dont quite like how the oculus touch players like myself have to use the triggers instead of the grip buttons so called grip buttons for obvious reasons
There are so many wacky and interesting combo items you can make with the alchemy! The frogres are s much fun and the Kevin and Dave scene is hilarious. Its defintely the best looking VR game Ive seen, and it runs smoothly. I love the little details, like how your hands grab objects realistically. I really like how the potions have a sound or a neat ghost or the evil potion. I love this game!
great looking game that in the end just wasn't fun. Job sim type. Fair number of ingredients but game play gets stale quickly. "Story" is painfully short with not much reason to follow through on "free play".
I'm hoping to find a reason to come back later, just not much meat in this tavern currently.
P.s> for the love of....make a better way to turn on the burner...breaking my wrist to turn the "knob" assuming I don't accidently grab or bump the pan while attempting to...
good vr game i expect to more updatesss im waiting this game is so good and i liked it im sharing it with my friends and i spend 2 h on that game on the first play and im saing thats not alot of bugs but it fixed soon so i recommend you to buy this game and now for the testtt

This game is, as of writing this review, Incredibly early in its development with an incomplete story mode and some jank that naturally comes with indie unity games, especially when they're in VR. Despite that I couldn't help but fall in love with this game because of the sheer charm it brought to the table. The major characters are very likable, and even the minor gremlins that speak in HMM HMM HMM only have enough randomization to their deisgns that they still manage to come off as unique and likable as you make them various crap, watching as they consume everything from seared Holy Leeches all the way to devouring Golden Crowns they asked me to transmute merely 20 seconds before. There are a few bugs, one of the bigger ones i've noticed is items have a tendency of permantly disappearing in a run with they collide together in odd ways. I also wish i could keep my essences on the back rack where i can easily reach them without constantly knocking everything else off the side and into the frying pan. The game is also currently light on content and I wish the dime a dozen gremlins would ask for more complex fries transmutations and brews to really let the player experiment more. At the moment the game serves as an interesting proof of concept and I hope to see more from the dev team.
This game is gorgeous! Very fun characters and beautiful effects. Great twist on games like Job Simulator and much more creative. It's early access right now but this game has so much potential and I can't wait to see what kind of content gets added moving forward.
Also... shopkeeper goblin guys is equal parts creepy and adorable. Shaking his had to complete the sale is a really nice touch!

This game has AWESOME graphics/art style!! It really catches your attention! The quirky ingredients make it interesting and fun to play. I played with friends watching and they got a kick out watching me make all sorts of quirky things. I look forward to seeing more content /game mechanics added as the early access progresses! I would love to see something to make the gameplay slightly more difficult or competitive; maybe a game mode or "endless/survival/timed" mode. But regardless it's still super fun. I've tried a variety of VR games now and this is definately one of the better games (that works extremely well with VR) and one you should have in your library; especially at this low price!
Don't pass this one up!

This game has bugs abound. The in-game hands hover a foot over your actual ones, the controllers constantly vibrate, the recipes work sometimes and don't other times. Your recipe book is frequently confusing and there are many things that go unexplained that would really be of benefit to the player if they were explained. (I can't find the brown slug with eyes anywhere on, under or around the table, and thanks to this progression is impossible.)
The travelling merchant sold me what looked like a new, more colorful grater but it didn't show up on the table either.
Other than the multiple gameplay and technical issues, Dungeon Brewmaster is colorful, adorably stylized, and would probably be much more entertaining if the problems I mentioned were fixed. As it stands now, however, it's more or less impossible to play.

My new review:
First, the updates - They fixed the vibration bug! Hands are still floating in the wrong place at the time of writing, but I believe that will be fixed very soon. Also, the brown slug in the spellbook turned out to actually be the purple one on the table, so that was my fault. Also, the cosmetic upgrades to your cooking utensils go on the shelf behind you so that's also my fault. You can just swap them out with each other by grabbing it.
I encountered a new bug, though, when I magically combined a purple glowing crystal and a unicorn potion. The resulting item was just another unicorn potion, but it kept respawning on the magic circle. When I slid the magic shelf back into the bar, it continued to respawn and fall to the ground to be eaten by the mimic without end.
Dungeon Brewmaster in its current form is very short and still has a long way to go until it can be called finished. HOWEVER, the mechanics, character and set design, and the whole, like, general vibe, man, set this game on the right track to becoming something enjoyable.
There are indeed a lot of ingredients, which is nice, but there aren't a whole lot of combinations they can make with each other which kind of defeats the purpose. The goblins that come into your bar generally want some variation on fried frog or slug, some magically combined object, or even just a raw ingredient. I found myself rarely using the cauldron in free play, if ever.
It would be nice if there were a reason to take the frying pan off of the flame at any time, or if the paring knife worked on more ingredients. (I haven't tried using it to see if it'll remove the cylops' eye. If it doesn't work, it should. If it does work, then right on.)
I tried making a potion of charming for the cow the first time she came in, but it just acted as if I gave her the brew that she asked for instead which was kind of disappointing. Some consequences to brewing the wrong potion would be nice. There are no penalties for messing up. (Yet?)
I'd like to see some kind of in-game recipes list, sorted by how powerful they are. The ability to serve things to patrons that they didn't ask for. Someone to actually use that foosball table I spent over a hundred gold on. A date with that bloodthirsty cow!
This is a great demo, but unfortunately it's still just a demo. I reccomend it, but keep in mind you won't be getting much in the way of content besides the ingredients to play around with and a ten minute story mode. Until the full game is out, I say wait for a sale.
Very nicely thought out mechanics and I'm definitely looking forward to playing it in the future when there's more content in the actual story.
