I LOVE RUSSIA GAME! FUN STORY EPIC CHARACTER! EPIC BACON!!!11 X3C
Russian World is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game.
This crap, badly written, badly translated E-book is just a fictional story lambasting Russian life, but the content is just pure garbage and the whole thing should be avoided by all. Here's my standard boilerplate for crap E-books in case anyone isn't sure what does and doesn't constitute a video game:
Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage.
Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book.
You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
The poor quality of this E-Book is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality E-Book is to be expected.
While game reviews must be about the game, as this review has been, it's sometimes important for gamers to be aware when there's problems with the developers. In this case, Nikita "Ghost_RUS", a Russian shovelware scam artist who routinely abuses Steam by polluting the marketplace with shovelware like this game. Nikita "Ghost_RUS" continually sends a message of racism, bigotry, homophobia and hate speech through his games, in direct violation of Valve's guidlines for acceptable game content. You can read more about it in this article by the Sentinels of the Store curator group.
This is something I feel potential customers should be aware of for two reasons. First, I understand completely that gamers may not want to buy games with such horrible, antihumanitarian messages of hate such as games from Nikita "Ghost_RUS". Secondly, gamers must be aware that if Valve decides to do the right thing and enforce their policy against hate speech and bigotry in games, games such as this will be banned. So, buying games from Nikita "Ghost_RUS" may be putting your money at risk.
Russian World is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the E-Book, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
Note: Because this is more of a "joke" game, intended to draw attention from controversy or in the hopes of going viral because it's "so bad it's good" (but it isn't good at all), there's nothing here to offer to serious gamers. As usual, with most awful/joke games, all the comedians come out of the woodwork. The vast majority of the reviews for this E-Book are joke reviews, such as "this game cured my cancer, saved my marriage, changed my life" etc. Because most of the reviews are as insincere as the E-Book itself is, the positive review score for this E-Book should be disregarded.
Feel like a Gopnik in rural living underground next to train track with no care in the world playing this. Life is good.
I literally not finish it because of the crashing
10/10 would kill aeshniki again
Bizzare, poorly translated, hack of an anime visual novel. The game is poorly made and obviously not finished; many options will cause a CTD or softlock, so obviously only one specific path has really been planned around. Despite that, this game is an absolutely fascinating look into the work of someone whose brain simply works differently. Behind the strange story, nightmarish "gameplay," and obviously unfinished nature of the game there is a strangely, beautifully artistic rendition of life in Russia. In between the moments of insanity there are very painful retellings of the hardships of living in a second world country that read like a cry for help. Even though the actual literary value of this game are slim to none the subplots told within the actual "story" are surprisingly captivating and I wish there were more media like this that simply depicted the hardships of other countries in a very direct and personal, if somewhat exaggerated way.
good.
Extremely Kino
trool face 🥶🥶🏆
Very immersive, such a hidden gem in the steam store. 10/10
Taught me the truth about the moon landings
Obviously Russian made - the writing alone gives that away. Some of the dialogue (all written) reads like it is directly out of a translator - which it probably is.
The soundtrack (which you can almost turn down all the way but not quite) is the usual lofi chiptune.
I can't tell if the game is taking itself seriously or an outright farce. Lines and lines of story are barely decipherable. The original Russian probably made sense, but this story is like one heard through a wall by arguing neighbors speaking broken English.
Still though, for the low cost, it was worth trying out.
(The developer put himself into the game at one point, which I liked)
The game gets very meta. Try it (if you can stand the music)
Hilarious game. Well worth the price tag. Not much in the way of actual game play, although you do occasionally have options to choose between two alternatives, such as to talk to someone, or what beer to buy. Most of the game you'll be reading extremely poorly translated Russian and laughing your ass off at how absurd the dialogue is.
9/10 feels like im literally in russia
need more police to squat
This is the best game I have ever played. Just five minutes in, and I was already hooked. The storytelling is just amazing. Nothing can top this
thank you russia
Absolutely hilarious due to translations and some of the pictures. Although less of a game than it is an interactive story.
Edit: I'd also like to take this moment to call Valve Corp. out on its recent anti-consumer practice of subtly hiding negative reviews. Read here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1808664240333155775
This game has made me think about life the universe and everything, it shifted my entire world view, and i think that it even revealed some of the illuminatis plots. whenever my neighbor hears me masturbating he always calls the police and id have to hide, BUT NOT ANY MORE, after russian world i now have the confidence to face those PIGS working for those goddamn lizards with my salami stick sandwiched if you catch my diesase. 1/1.
