Скерская дева — это игра-«ужастик» в стиле выживания от первого лица, действие которой происходит в удаленном от цивилизации отеле с кровавой и жуткой историей, позаимствованной из британского фольклора. Вооружившись только защитным звуковым устройством, вы будете использовать тактику стелс, чтобы избежать смерти среди культа врагов ИИ, основанных на звуке.
Идея игры, действие которой происходит в 1898 году, навеяна будоражащим уэльским рассказом Элизабет Уильямс. Это история семейной империи, движимой пытками, рабством, пиратством и сверхъестественными тайнами, которые царят на территории отеля.

This game exceeded my expectations and I only played Maid of Sker in Safe Mode so far. And yes I still did get scared at times.

Maid of Sker is a very interesting game that I found a bit cliche but still rewarding.
The game was a problem experience for me, having no crashes or issues.
The story is compelling enough, but I do feel that there is not enough to go on to fully understand the lore. I would like an extended version of the game that allowed for more exploration and explanation of how things came to be. While cliche, I found it still enjoyable and liked how the various endings played out.
I recommend Maid of Sker, as a puzzle-lite and quick story style game.

A gem of a game. Is it short? Yes. Does it do a lot story-wise, building mystery as you go? Yes. Did I spend five minutes looking for Elisabeth in the flower pots under the stairs because I heard her audio cue down there? Yes.
That said, it was a great game in my opinion. Calliope is the best girl and deserves all the pets. It even managed to jumpscare me, which I wasn’t expecting despite it being a horror game.
I do wish, however, that the Harpy had more of a chance to shine. The creature’s design was really good and it felt like a shame for it to be locked away behind the last minute of gameplay. That said, I had a blast reading all the little lore pieces hidden around the map.
Its a generic walking simulator psychological horror games where you just hide from your enemy.
Boring game
fantastic welsh folklore game...very enjoyable (except the times when the enemies would be bugged and somehow know where i was at every moment)...besides that bug, the game honestly scared me good lol. having to be quiet and not know if you're actually making noise or are too close was terrifying to me. great puzzles as well!

Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror game set in a creepy, remote hotel inspired by Welsh folklore. However, while it has great potential, it suffers from occasional technical issues that detract from its overall experience.
Atmosphere and Immersion
The game’s atmosphere is its strongest aspect. Set in a dark, foggy Welsh hotel, the eerie setting draws you in, making you feel as though you’ve entered a place cursed by both supernatural and human horrors. The sound design is exceptional – the Quiet Ones, enemies who react to noise, create a uniquely tense experience. The haunting renditions of Welsh hymns add a chilling touch that will stick with you long after playing.
Gameplay and Mechanics
Maid of Sker blends exploration with stealth, as you try to navigate through the hotel, avoiding enemies using a sound-based defensive device. The game is at its best when you’re sneaking past the Quiet Ones, listening intently for their movements. However, the game suffers from some frustrating mechanics. There are instances where certain actions meant to distract enemies don’t trigger correctly, causing some aggravation. Additionally, the controls and game mechanics feel clunky at times, and the constant mist effect, though atmospheric, can strain your eyes.
Challenges Mode and Additional Content
The second mode of the game, “Challenges,” presents a much more action-oriented experience with weapons and more difficult enemies. This mode shifts from a slow-paced mystery to more intense, survival-horror gameplay, akin to Resident Evil. Though this mode is more engaging and varied, it is still hindered by the same flaws present in the main game.
Final Verdict
Maid of Sker is an atmospheric and suspenseful horror game that will appeal to fans of psychological and gothic horror. It does an excellent job of creating tension and a sense of dread through sound design and environmental storytelling. However, it’s let down by some frustrating gameplay mechanics and technical issues. While it offers a unique experience, those expecting a more traditional, intense survival horror might be disappointed.

Atmospheric, creepy and immersive. If you like spooky walking sims with additional faceless 'people' to avoid, then you'll enjoy this game. Works brilliantly on Steam Deck too, which is where I played most of my play through.
Just like other sports with international appeal, such as basketball, soccer, and ping-pong, it is our vision, that one day, Bulletball will become an Olympic sport.
Lame, unoriginal and boring.
UPDATE: I changed it to thumbs up (but it is still mediocre) because I actually played one more playthrough on Easy (~2 hours) to tick off a few Achievements (No Hit Run, don't use a "thing", the good ending, all collectibles, everything explored...) which was way less frustrating than my first run on hard.
BUT it was still not super enjoyable. So why did I have a change of heart? I guess because a) I played it again even though I didn't enjoy it that much and b) I also tried the "Challenges" (at least the first one; now I know why they made Sker Ritual...) and actually had a bit of fun. In this mode you get weapons: Hatchet, Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle
But this is it for me, I am not playing through the Game 1 or 2 more times to get the other Achievements.
THIS IS A THUMB IN THE MIDDLE (leaning just a little more down since my experience was kind of frustrating) but it is also not bad.
I just wanted to get that out of the way first.
So I had Maid of Sker sitting in my library for a while. But since Sker Ritual came out and I wanted to buy that also (which I finally did because a friend of mine also bought it), I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to play Maid of Sker first.
Now a WARNING: If you play this Game for the first time, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME ON HARD FOR YOUR FIRST PLAYTHROUGH!
I will elaborate on that later on but just trust me on this.
So yeah, started up the Game, checked the Options and jumped right into it on Hard.
Graphically this Game is decent looking, it is no masterpiece but it is good enough.
What I noticed in the beginning - which was kind of annoying to look at - was a strange "blur" effect on everything (trees for example). Also there were some minor graphic glitches in some areas which was not really that bad.
At first I found the breathing sound when you are running a bit annoying but I got used to it. Overall I'd say the Sound design is really good, in some areas even excellent. And the Music is fitting as well.
Both let the tension rise and you feel uneasy most of the time.
In the beginning you seem to be hearing footsteps all around you and I think the beginning is the best part.
But later on, at least on hard, the Game became more of an annoyance.
Now let me dive a bit deeper on why I was so frustrated and why I gave you the warning to NOT play it on Hard (on your first playthrough).
You only have 10 Saves and you can save in set saverooms on a grammophone.
Of course as a first time player, you don't know how long this Game is, how far apart the savepoints are and what will happen in the Game.
You just don't know how the Game works yet. How will enemies behave, how many are there, can you find a weapon to deal with them (I think in the Options was the "Hint" that you can actually shoot, so I thought you might find a weapon) and what will happen in general?!
Let me tell you one thing without spoiling it: On hard there is a TON of enemies around almost every corner. And many places are VERY narrow. For a long time you have no means to defend yourself apart from holding your breath when they get to close. Enemies only react to sound but they can't see.
So you will sneak a LOT and this is slow. Sometimes you also get sandwiched between enemies and there are few options to escape them.
Let me just tell you, in the end I had only one save left and when that was wasted (which I didn't know because it was my first playthrough) I had to play almost half of the Game in one go.
No dying or your whole progress is gone and back to the last savepoint it is. And the last half was the most difficult part.
Now that I know what happens, yes, of course, I wouldn't use up my saves like I did. But this is hindsight, my first experience was frustrating because I didn't know what to expect.
That also meant that I didn't collect everything as I had actually planned. Because I couldn't afford to die, so I just tried a straight route to the end and missed out on a ton of collectibles and thus also lore.
This is why: Play on an easier difficulty.
Also the Game came out in 2020 (4 1/2 years ago) and the Achievement that I got for completing it on hard is still rare. Only 2.4% of Players have this.
Still overall there is a lot to like. The atmosphere is pretty good, the music and sound design is good, it is easy to control and the locations are also quite nice.
It is also pretty short. Steam says I played for 4.5 hours but ingame I was told it was 03:13:17hrs.
This also means that there is a Chance that I maybe play this again someday on an easier difficulty to get another ending and collect more things and read a little more lore.
But I also have to be honest to myself. Even though it is kind of my fault that I didn't enjoy the Game as much as I could have, well, I just didn't enjoy it as much...
I think that I got this on sale and some people maybe got it for free on EGS but I don't think it is worth the 20€ asking price.
Closing words: Not a bad Game but you can destroy your own experience with it...
Probably the lamest horror game ever. I was ready to be shocked, scared, terrified, pissed myself. But no, there's no such anything close to scare about this game.
The lame linear plot is basically to avoid middle aged, blind men with literally no weapon and barely look threatening whatsoever! And to make it challenging, the game doesn't allow u to fight these men. Idk maybe it'll be considered as bullying?
A game that left me with moments of extreme tension, all while strung along an interesting and unique storyline. The use of mythology and the eeriness of the Welsh climate really adds to matters. I enjoyed this game quite a lot!
However, I will say that there were definite sections that were frustrating more because of the mechanics of the game or controls than skill. Additionally, it could do with a bit less of the mist effect, as it created a constant sense that my eyes weren't focused that was distinctly unpleasant.
Overall, 7/10 and worth playing, but would benefit from some extra polish.

Maid of Sker is really two games, not one.
The first is an exploration mystery in which you try to rescue your beloved from a dastardly scheme of greed and murder. This mostly consists of working through levels which, although semi-open, are largely linear in practice. You look for the usual collectibles and lore, along with keys and McGuffins in the form of music sheets and cylinders. There are enemies scattered throughout, but the gameplay mostly depends on being patient and not getting too close to them. You have a means to heal, and one defensive mechanism in the form of a temporary stun device.
So would I call this survival horror? Not really. The enemies are your basic patrol AI, which become antagonistic if you bump a piece of furniture or run or breathe right next to them. But survival is pretty easy since apart from one miniboss, the enemy paths are regimented and so I never really felt the tension of trying to stay alive. I'd call this an exploration mystery game. It's fun, and lastly around 6 hrs, doesn't overstay its welcome. The best part of the Maid of Sker is the sound design, which is rich and very immersive.
The other game that is packaged in here is the Challenge section. I call it a whole other game for two reasons. First, the gameplay is fundamentally different. The enemy types are much more diverse and challenging, and you get weapons with which to kill them. So it's much more Resident Evil-esque. Second, there are four challenges each of which takes me about an hour for a single playthrough, and they involve navigating a reconfigured layout of the hotel to escape the labyrinthe. Each challenge enhances the difficulty, whether by having you play in the dark, fight only with a melee weapon, or get no lives (there are no saves on Challenges, so you have to do a challenge in one sitting).
In some ways, I'd say the Challenges are the more interesting game, thanks to the wider variation in enemy types and the more interesting final boss battle to escape. But truthfully both games are not varied or surprising enough to be worth the money on their own. Only together do I think they constitute enough interesting playtime.
Maid of Sker is a nice indie game for those looking for something atmospheric and tense without being particularly scary or intense. People looking for another Outlast or Visage should look elsewhere. I'd class this more in the same vein as The Vanishing of Ethan Carter or Perception or The Beast Inside. Enjoyable but don't expect too much.
This was disappointing. It started off strong but ended with a whimper.
If Resident evil, Outlast met a greek mythologist and decided to hang out with a Artificer. Not long, but very interesting, the story was well written, no secrets for another game, no stress or over achieving goals, no machines in fur suits chasing u, just a simple horror game telling a story and it is beautiful. highly recommend this game and would love to play/record more games you make involving this universe. keep it up!
There wasn't anything too different about this that stood out to me.
it's an okay stealth survival game, it got a tiny bit boring/tedious near the end though.
Also whats with the purple cloud/smoke stuff?
There wasn't any "lore" or explanations as to what the hell it is.
It's just kind of there to force the breath holding gimmick.
Which you are "supposed" to do with the enemies, but you really don't need to as they wont attack unless they actually run into you while you sneak around.
To be honest you almost don't need to sneak at all, ALL the enemies are actually blind (and almost completely deaf as well lol).
IF your into these types of games and its on sale go for it,
There's challenge modes as well as the main story to play.
The main story took me 5 hours to beat.
