peak part 2
This is tough, I want to leave it a neutral and I can't bring myself to leave a negative review. It's a solid 6/10. I feel as though the story starts out strong, brings up some interesting points and then never touches on them again or does so in a way that's really shallow. There are six endings, all but two I felt were fairly lackluster and the true ending left me thoroughly confused and frustrated with a "THAT'S IT?!" moment. There are segments that I really loved of course but I felt they weren't neatly tied up. It is also a roller coaster of emotion (in a good way!) but I'd say it's pretty emotionally heavy, borderline nukige, so be warned.
There's a lot of retcons or otherwise modifications to the original I wasn't a fan of, but I'm sure that's a mixed bag with people.
Also, the art is a MAJOR downgrade, but what can you do. There's some sections that use the new sprites mixed with the old and it's very odd. Music is great though.
It's worth the read if you're a fan I suppose.

Also, happy birthday to all sad scientists!
If Steins;Gate changed my life forever, this game just remade me from scratch.
I can't understand how this intersequel can be so good and perfect, but it really is. The setting is the most depressing thing I've ever experienced, and that's a good thing, as it really connected with me in a lot of ways. This game offers a lot of heartbreaking and beautiful moments, tension, horror even, it's just... a whole lot.
I really can't believe how well it connects with its predecessor, and the lots and lots of information that it provides to the player. The way this was made offers one of the most complete experiences you could have in the Steins;Gate series, and I really mean it.
Of course, the characters as always are very complex and unique, for the most part, and I can assure a lot of them offer the most precious moments in this game. Also, this game unlike the original Steins;Gate, not only does offer the protagonist perspective, but also the perspective from a lot of other characters, adding a lot of context and information about how the other characters really feel.
Obviously, if you intend to play this game, you need to play at least Steins;Gate first (also if you want more context and vital information you should play Chaos;Head, Robotics;Notes and Chaos;Child too).
I really enjoyed this game, with my soul, and I owe it a lot. Thanks for this precious adventure, that I'll treasure every day of my life.

JAPANESE SHAMAN GURL はどこにいるんだいリンタロ?????????????????
A fantastic story of time travel, artificial intelligence, rebelling against fate and human connection (and the utter depravity of certain organizations. If you know you know.) It is somewhat darker that the original and does a good job of continuing from the original while also adding additional plot elements and characters in a way that feels meaningful. The true ending also does a good job of looping things back to the true ending of steins gate.
That said, it does drag on at points and some of Daru's dialogue could be readily deleted without much loss.
The only me is me. Are you sure the only you is you?
I’ll state this right off the bat: while Steins;Gate 0 is a brilliant game, it doesn't quite match the emotional depth and impact of the original. That said, it’s clear that the developers never intended for it to surpass the first game, but rather to offer something different—an exploration of a darker, more introspective narrative.
The central theme revolves around Artificial Intelligence, specifically the development of an AI that is capable of complex emotional responses and evolving consciousness. This topic feels particularly relevant today, given the rapid advancements in AI and its increasing presence in our lives.
AI in Steins;Gate 0
The story centers on a project called "Amadeus," which is an AI system that is capable of storing and emulating the personality and memories of a person, making it indistinguishable from the real person in terms of behavior and interaction. The story explores the implications of this technology: how it affects relationships, the ethics of creating digital copies of consciousness, and the philosophical questions surrounding the nature of identity and humanity. This idea leads to profound emotional conflict, as characters grapple with interacting with AI that is, in many ways, a continuation of lost loved ones.
The Relevance of AI Today
Fast forward to today, and the ideas presented in Steins;Gate 0 are more relevant than ever. The concept of AI mimicking human emotions, personalities, and even replicating someone’s voice or mannerisms is no longer purely theoretical, but increasingly achievable. Many companies and research institutions are working on making AI systems capable of engaging in conversations that feel human-like, developing deep learning algorithms that allow machines to recognize and respond to emotional cues. This technological landscape brings the game's exploration of AI to the forefront of contemporary debates.
Ethical and Philosophical Considerations
- Can AI truly replicate human consciousness? As AI technology progresses, we see more examples of AI being used in ways that mimic aspects of human behavior. However, as Steins;Gate 0 suggests, there is still a fundamental difference between a digital simulation and an actual person, no matter how convincing the AI might seem.
- The ethics of AI consciousness: If AI can simulate consciousness, should it be treated with the same rights as humans? Is it ethical to create digital beings that are aware of their own artificiality?
- AI and memory: The emotional weight of memory is central to Steins;Gate 0. AI that preserves memories, like Amadeus, raises questions about the authenticity of these memories. If an AI "remembers" something, is it the same as a human remembering it, or does the experience lose its emotional depth when reproduced by a machine?
Notes on New Characters
Hiyajo Maho
I truly believe that Hiyajo Maho is the standout character added to the game. She is a well-rounded character with clearly defined traits, and her dialogues are, by far, the most thought-provoking in the entire game. As a friend of Kurisu's, Maho shared a professional and personal connection with her, having worked together in AI research and development in the U.S. Like Okabe, Maho is deeply affected by Kurisu’s death. The conversations between Maho and Okabe about their shared experiences with Kurisu are some of the most impactful moments in the game. It’s evident that both characters held immense respect and affection for her, with Maho even describing Kurisu as "the Mozart to her Salieri".
Writing a character like Maho without making her feel like a mere replacement for Kurisu must have been a challenge, but I’m pleased to say that Maho is so well-developed that, from the very start, she feels like a fully realized individual in her own right. Her unique presence injects a fresh dynamic into the narrative, adding emotional depth and complexity without feeling like she's some sort of "replacement" for Kurisu.
Shiina Kagari
I have to be honest and say that I do not care much for Kagari. She’s a character who often feels absent, even when she’s physically present in scenes. Unfortunately, Kagari comes across as a shoehorned-in character with too little personality for players to really latch onto. While she does have a role in the story, I found it difficult to connect with her, and her emotional development didn’t resonate as strongly as with other characters. Her ending was, by far, the worst one; it came out of nowhere and honestly it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Kaede Kurushima/Katsumi Nakase
I honestly had to look up their names to include them in this review— that’s how little of an impact they left on me. To put it simple: they’re both Mayuri's friends and feel totally like filler characters. Both of them are largely irrelevant to the main plot, and their presence never really adds anything meaningful. They don’t stand out in terms of personality, development, or emotional depth, and by the end of the game, it’s hard to remember much about them.
Amane Yuki
Yuki's character is a bit difficult to assess, as her development can take dramatic turns depending on the route you choose. Overall, though, I don’t feel her presence detracts from the main experience.
Alexis Leskinen
Dr. Leskinen is an enjoyable character whose enthusiasm shines through every scene. He’s mischievous and adds humor, especially in the early parts of the game. His character takes some interesting turns, and his ending is sure to surprise many, manipulating both Okabe’s and the player’s attachment to Kurisu in clever ways.
Judy Reyes
Judy feels underdeveloped, with little screen time and a role that doesn’t justify her presence. The game asks us to accept her suddenly significant role in the plot without giving us the time to develop an attachment to her, which feels lazy. A better example of a more effective character reveal would be Tennouji’s unexpected "double agent" twist in the original Steins;Gate, which felt earned due to the time spent building his character.
Positives
- Soundtrack - The music is still top-notch, setting the perfect tone for the game’s emotional moments.
- Voice acting - The voice performances are excellent, continuing the high standard set by the original.
- Character designs - The updated character designs are a visual improvement, and the addition of mouth movements during dialogue adds a new layer of animation to the scenes.
- Enhanced visuals - The game's visuals are more dynamic, and the characters now move their mouths during dialogue, which, though minor, brings more life to the scenes compared to the original’s static images.
Negatives
- Pacing - Can feel sluggish at times, especially with the shift in perspectives.
[*]RINE - While text messages were important in the original game, the use of RINE messages here feels way less impactful.
Conclusion
In the end, Steins;Gate 0 is an excellent visual novel that builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor. While, in my optinion, it may not surpass the original in terms of impact, it offers a dark, thought-provoking narrative that remains highly relevant to today’s AI discussions. The game’s exploration of grief, memory, and artificial consciousness will leave a lasting impression, even as it explores difficult, philosophical questions about the future of AI.

I'm not sure which world line I'm in anymore
I didn't have the highest of hopes going into this game. Steins;Gate was a masterful piece of writing, its characters and plot were gripping and its ending emotional. I was afraid that 0 would disrespect and tarnish that story in some way.
I was incredibly mistaken.
0 does not tarnish the original Steins;Gate, it enhances it. It goes into detail on a plot beat crucial in the ending of the original game, a plot beat we hadn't learnt of. Steins;Gate 0 explores this and explains it, whilst telling an amazing and gripping story along the way. It doesn't feel like a cheap copy or attempt at creating a sequel to the original, it is a story built on the original game which tells an entirely unique, yet relevant story. Somehow it manages to respect and build off the original in its own way, whilst still telling its own unique story instead of feeling like a forced continuation. You may have heard the story of 0 is not as good as the original, that is true. However, thats about where it ends. It's just "Not as good". However, compare it too a myriad of other stories, its exceptional. It is still amazing. Saying its not as good as the original isnt a way of putting down 0, its simply a testament to the quality of the original, Steins:Gate 0 should be played, its an amazing story that wont damage your opinion of the franchise. It will just enhance it.
Steins:Gate 0 is an incredible piece of story telling, enough said.
PLAY THIS GAME (after the original, of course)

A faithful sequel to the original game. The story keeps you invested in the characters and it is extremely well done. Some of the endings are a bit depressing, but I think that makes the good endings all that much better.

Get in the time machine, Okabe
Steins;Gate 0 is a very important story to understand what happened at the end of Steins;Gate.
The Positive
- Art. Although I had to get used to it, it's a bit different from S;G. I did like most of it. There are some returning characters of which I prefer the S;G art more, especially Daru.
- Voice acting. Perfect as always. Again, only Daru here for some reason I was a bit disappointed with. Not sure if I am imagining things but it's like his voice was more 'quirky' than in S;G.
- Story. From Mad Scientist to Sad Scientist and the reawakening of the Mad Scientist again . This is the story right after he fails to save Kurisu the first time in S;G. He has given up. Depression, no more delusions. There are some major moments that made me jump from my chair, for instance when the worldline shifted when everyone was having fun at the x-mas party, to Okabe being in the middle of WW3 with death around every corner. But there were also some boring sequences that failed to keep my attention. In S;G I never had the urge to skip through dialogue, but here I sometimes did. Those moments were mostly in the alternate endings, so it's not a big deal. I must say some of the things I enjoyed were Tennouji helping Okabe out after Okabe reveals his knowledge of him being a SERN Rounder and Moeka getting closer to Maho and acting more human.
- Music. If Mozart lived in present time making game music, it would be this. I think on average the BGM in S;G is slightly better, but S;G 0 has some very strong tracks with character motives and deeper meanings.
The Negative
- RINE messaging is basically a simplified Mail messaging system. What I liked about mails in S;G is that you had an inbox and outbox of mails that you could look into. Meaning that some mails were there on certain worldlines and some weren't. And there would also be mails that were sent or received in between scenes.
- Achievements are not creative. Almost every achievement you will get by simply playing all endings. There are like 2 achievements which you can miss.
- The true ending. It's short. I was expecting a bit more. I believe the anime goes deeper here.
- How Okabe interacts with the RINE message he received from another worldline/ending. Don't get me wrong I think the idea of a certain ending influencing a chapter in the past after playing it again is simply genius, but that is exactly why I am disappointed with the execution. The image of 'Kyouma' flashes real quick when he receives the message, he reads it and continues like nothing happened. And then this gives you a continuation to the True ending after getting to the Mayuri ending again. I expected more drastic changes here.
- The Story. I'm putting this in both positive and negative. There are some strong points in the story I explained above but ultimately there are a lot of loose ends and some things feel incomplete. Once again I believe the anime fixes most of it (I have to rewatch it soon). Kagari seems like a nice person but I don't feel like I am too interested in her character, wish more of her backstory was explained, although seeing how Mayuri interacts with her is at times heartwarming. Other newer characters like Maho and Leskinen were much more enjoyable.
Verdict
8/10. The VN feels a bit incomplete, but in the end still a great sequel. There are some very strong moments, but it has trouble with keeping that momentum throughout the playthrough.
10/10 masterpiece

Great game just like the first one love it I love it a lot and very said the way I love it too I love it hahaha
nice continuation of the steins;gate story, you need to play the first game to understand anything in this one though. okabe is very sad scientist now :(
Very satisfying, especially to get all the endings : )
This is how you create an additional story for a game that already has a perfect ending.
Even though Steins;Gate had a perfect conclusion in the first game, Steins;Gate 0 takes risks and extends the story, adding more depth and context to the original plot. I was aware of the high ratings for Steins;Gate 0 in both its visual novel and anime adaptations, so I expected a good story. However, deep down, I couldn’t help but wonder, “How can they explore more in a story that already feels complete (at least to me)?”
The way they achieved this truly blew my mind. As I mentioned earlier, this game is a perfect example of how to expand a world with a supposedly "perfect" ending without compromising anything. It doesn’t feel like it's trying to milk the franchise; instead, it genuinely adds more context and layers to the original story of Steins;Gate.
I also appreciate how all the endings still have a sense of continuity. They don’t feel like "endings" in the traditional sense but are instead linked to how the characters can eventually reach Steins;Gate.

MAHO HIYAJO MY BELOVED!!!!
10/10 story
A must play visual novel to be honest, especially if you had played the previous game. It's not as great as the original Steins;Gate but that's because the original was wayyyy too good lmao. One caveat I have with this one is that some of the chapters are dragged on for too long, some endings also reuse scenes and the autoskip feature doesn't even skip them because it thinks they're brand new and unseen.
