To me, it's very boring. I was excited to play it because it was on sale and looked really cute. I also figured it has kind of an animal crossing vibe. I was a bit disappointed idk what exactly it is, but it's so draining to play for some reason. Sadly, i thought i'd give it another chance but never ended up touching it again, so now its just rotting in my library. I wish i refunded this back then
Its uh... its a bootleg...
Temu Animal Crossing
The game isn't bad, there's just other games out there that do the same thing, better.
mid gameplay, mid character creation, mid dialogue, mid appearance over all. Mid.
Game feels really empty. Like a soulless copy of Animal Crossing. It just doesn't have any charm of its own and it doesn't try to stand out.
so basically animal crossing but for pc and also customization is better than animal crossing imo. great game so far and i have so many opinions on the villagers, but honestly i was going to kick one of them out but he grew on me. i like that he writes books. he's mean, but i understand now he likes to just keep to himself and write books. respectable. i like him now. any way 10/10 game,, i love it
I haven't played much of this game yet but through the trailer alone I was interested! This game is great if you're a fan of cozy games such as Animal Crossing. Can't wait to play it some more! :)
Hokko Life: A Relaxing Escape That Falls Short of Its Competition
Hokko Life is a charming attempt to join the ranks of life-sim and farming games, but it struggles to stand out in a genre filled with stronger contenders. While it offers a peaceful, laid-back experience, it lacks the depth and polish needed to compete with its more advanced peers like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing.
At its core, Hokko Life is a game about creativity and relaxation. The customization options for designing furniture and decorating your town are a highlight, giving players freedom to express themselves. However, beyond this, the game quickly becomes repetitive and feels surprisingly empty. The farming mechanics are basic, the character interactions lack personality, and progression feels slow and uninspired compared to other games in the genre.
If you’re looking for a very chill game with no pressure or urgency, Hokko Life might suit you. It’s pleasant and easygoing, making it a decent pick for those who want a simple, stress-free escape. But for anyone looking for a more engaging or rewarding experience, it has little to offer. The gameplay never feels innovative, and the lack of meaningful features leaves the game feeling like an undercooked version of its competitors.
Pros:
• Relaxing, stress-free gameplay
• Nice creative tools for furniture and town design
Cons:
• Lacks depth and meaningful content
• Farming and interactions are underdeveloped
• Feels uninspired compared to stronger titles in the genre
Final Thoughts: Hokko Life is a pleasant distraction, but it doesn’t bring anything special to the table. If it wants to compete with its more advanced peers, it needs to try harder to offer something unique and memorable. For now, it’s a nice option for players who want a slower pace, but others will likely find themselves moving on quickly.
After looking around for something similar to animal crossing, I saw this was on sale, and deiced to give it a try.
Aside from the creepy uncanny looking villager, the game plays pretty well, though there doesn't seem that there is much content, not really many plant varieties and the only types of tress there is being conifers, while plant wise just some a grass, weed and one type flower just simply called yellow flower. The town or as the gamer calls it the meadow also doesn't have that much space to work with either making this place pretty shallow compared to other games in the genre. Lastly when it comes to furniture, there inst really much you can interact with thus making it only worth its appeal, only its appeal.
Overall I can say the game has a good start but its severely lacking. My score is a 6/10
clunky and boring... also kinda uncanny valley??
This game is so cute.. a bit slow in the beginning but definitely keeping my interest. Gives Animal Crossing vibes, which I love. I was looking for something similar and this fits the bill. Runs amazing, no glitches or bugs..so far. I wish night time and when its raining especially was a bit brighter with the colors, a little hard to see stuff but thats about my only negative
Quite honestly this game seems to be for very young children only, the graphics are adorable at first but the gameplay is repetetive and becomes boring very fast. I got through the first season, finding that almost everyday became a daily grind. And it became boring really fast.
It’s a shame that this game got so much hate when it was first released. Here in 2024, the devs fixed a lot of bugs and the game received awesome updates. Get it if you like Animal Crossing or relaxing decorate games in general. The game really opened up for me after I built the first house. It is only $3.99 when it is on sale.
This game could be a hit if they could polish the character models and keep updating it with new areas and content. Personally, the models could be better but doesn't bother me too much. It is only $3.99 when it is on sale.
I would even pay for an expansion DLC, but the devs are discouraged by the reviews, this might never happen.
If you like relaxing gameplay you will like this. Please give it a try. Again, it is only $3.99 when it is on sale. It's a steal.
The game is very slow paced. I don't like how difficult it is to unlock the basic stuff for the game to be playable.
my gf loves it!!
Looking for a cozy life-sim to relax with? 🏡 Hokko Life is a delightful game where you can design your dream village, craft custom furniture 🎨, grow crops 🌱, and spend time with cute animal neighbors 🐾. The game’s customization options are top-notch, letting you unleash your creativity and make everything uniquely yours.
If you’ve been craving something like Animal Crossing but don’t have a Switch, Hokko Life is an awesome alternative! 🌟 It’s packed with charm, relaxing vibes, and plenty of fun activities to keep you entertained. Definitely a must-try for life-sim fans! 💕
100/10 really love it
Lacks polish and feels janky. Also, all the character customization options suck especially the hair.
I really love this game! It has a similar sort of vibe to animal crossing but I much prefer Hokko Life. The graphics are cute, the game is fun, you can explore and there is lots of time for free play if that's what you want. There are also merits and steam achievements to work towards. I can lose hours in this game!
So... There are things about this game that are done very well, and some things that aren't done as well if you're comparing it to something like Animal Crossing.
Placing items is more fun, like you can put things more closely together than animal crossing since the placing grids are smaller. The villagers here in Hokko are better written but the variation is smaller, The graphics are more uncanny valley than animal crossing too.
I only know since I played this on my switch but it wasn't very optimized on the switch: the furniture design. THIS is where the game shines but you're not going to be getting to it in under three hours. The pacing is a bit slow in the beginning that way.
TL;DR: I think this is a cheap way to fill an animal crossing hole, if thats what you need. If you like decoration and furniture making, it can be a good time if you can get past the slightly uncanny valley Graphics.
Its got quite some depth and unique mechanics once you figure everything out. Like to advance or unlock farming you need to do certain things like plant 20 flowers or fulfill 5 quests. There is also a mechanic where the community created amazing decorative items and everyone can download them for FREE. Its a bit slow (or you could say relaxing) with its quests sometimes and constant back and forth. But what I like is the beautiful art style of the town and all the decorations!
Relaxing to play. Just like playing animal crossing but much better. Though the fishing part was kinda hard especially using keyboard & I lost count of how many time the fishing reel snapped. I sure need lots of practice in fishing for sure haha(>.<) This game is definitely a good game & highly recommended!
Can be confusing a times, but such a lovely game!
Really cool game with cute graphics. A lot of stuff to do but nothing bad happens if you don't do any of it. Sometimes I just like sitting there and enjoying the landscape and weather sounds.
I found the 3D creation tool very hard to get into but after a while it got a lot easier and I'm making some pretty cool stuff with it.
Ran poorly on my computer (i5, 8th gen) even with low graphics it still stuttered. Other than that the soundtrack is great. Alot of dialogue though!
This game lacks polish and my game got softlocked.
I need to craft 10 wooden planks, but all my trees are gone and I can't plant more.
No updates since launch yet endless 'challenges' by the devs.
Dead on arrival hoenstly.
nice game
no
Cute cozy sim that eases you into everything in a comfortable pace. There are lots of things to keep you busy once you unlock different areas. Personally, I find the crafting a little difficult, but it could be I'm not as patient as other creators, lol. Speaking of other creators, there is an online store and also themed contests and WOW, some people just have all the talent. LOL. Please take reviews with less than 10 hours with a grain of salt, since they seem to be salty for absolutely no reason and also seem like they went into this game expecting a clone of other, more well known games. This is its own gem! <3
Adorable little game! It gives me so many animal crossing vibes that just makes you wanna get creative and just build anything you can imagine.
This game is GOLD. I just made a table, that FUNCTIONS, with human legs. I'm gonna put it in someone's house. They're gonna put food on that table, while making eye-contact with the horrifying face pecking out.
Anyone who says this game is trash has zero patience, and probably didn't get past like the 2nd new house. I took a shot because it was on sale for cheap. i figured all the negative reviews couldn't be ALL wrong. But holy shit they were. The game is more about quests and talking to people early on, rather than grinding out bug catching and fishing (as compared the Animal Crossing). You unlock new stuff slowly, like animal crossing, but instead of shutting down your switch and time cheating every 20 minutes, you can sleep in your bed to go to the next day like a NORMAL game.
I thought this game was worth the 5 bucks I paid, but, now that I've played it, I would've paid full price.
you can redecorate villager houses. you can evict someone from their house, and they pathetically follow you around until you sleep. And then they're GONE. I hate you, Owyn. Live somewhere else.
there are also teleport points, which is a massive quality of life thing. I don't have to spend forever running to the mines like with Stardew, or make the minecarts late game. i can just teleport. You have to unlock the teleport points, but its nice. They're pretty easy to get, but they don't feel too easy.
so far, villagers are... very friendly. If you played the old animal crossing where your neighbor would call you ugly and weird, imagine this as the next polished and kid-friendly step after New Leaf. They're pretty similar so far to animals crossing villagers: kind, cute, but a bit shallow. It doesn't take away from the game, to me. I adore how happy my villager was when i gave them that human leg table. They love it.
The item building system is amazing. It reminds me of the clothes in Sims 2, where can can do nearly anything. There are SO many options. I could make a chair so small that its worthless. A shelf with no shelves, or so many tiny and poorly-placed shelves that it's worthless. A table that could be a gazebo. They could be upside-down, sideways, broken. They don't even have to look like what they're meant to be. Yes, Benny, that giant wooden spike is your chair. You're welcome.
Don't get this game because you want an animal crossing clone. Get this game because it's a an awesome chill cozy game.
You can thank me later <3
just started but ish okie
My experience with Hokko Life was no where as negative as a lot of the other reviewers. I did refund it but that was mostly over performance issues and I can see myself giving it another chance on a different platform.
The most boring game known to me...
this game is very fun and cute
I couldn't even get the game to work. I ended up having to refund it because it barely functions. Which is sad because it looks like a really cute game.
Love this game
boring
As people say, got bored after a while. In my case, 19h. Now I don't even want to turn it back on and finish achievements or anything. It became rinse and repeat. The tasks. Do this, do that, so you could do more of this and that. There's no real story goal as to what you need to do to progress. It took me a long time to figure out that in order to progress, you have to craft this item or that instead of waiting for an explanation or trigger point.
Boring and lifeless so glad i got this on sale lmao
