This a quick, easy HOA game with pretty decent puzzles and some quirky gimmicks. If you are a fan of Jules Verne, you'll most likely enjoy this game. It is very short and makes for a nice, relaxing afternoon.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a hidden object game with clear and easy-to-solve puzzles, which follows the foundations of the Vernian classic in its short visit to the fantastic underwater ocean.

It's an alright game. The puzzles are entertaining enough. It is about a 2 hour game. It is decent if you like Jules Verne content and don't mind simple hidden object games. Get it on sale, and it is worth it. I only paid $0.54.

Clearly don't know the difference between a puffer fish and a sunfish, what a "plate" is, the difference between a vent and a "grid", etc. Probably some translation problems in there somewhere.

Even though I love this genre of game I"m going to say 'NO' on this one because I couldn't tell you the first thing about the story, if there's even a story. I lost interest 5 minutes into it when I realized it's just going to be puzzle after puzzle and most of them are tedious for no other reason than just to be tedious... and no way to turn down the music was another kicker... you can't turn it down or off while you're in a puzzle.

Plus, the things you're clicking on that are surely what they are looking for, aren't the things they are looking for. They FORCE you to use hints in some situations because the graphics are so grainy.

Pros: You can possibly learn a lot about species of fish, parts of a ship,

20.000 Leagues Under The Sea - Captain Nemo is a free mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a paid product. It's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is a simple Jule's Verne themed hidden object puzzle game with a lame, badly translated French adaptation of the story tacked onto the front. It's a lazy, broken mess, and typical for this "developer". Here's some fun trivia, though. A league of course is about 4.8kms or 3 miles if you're used to using hogsheads and rams to measure your beer, which means the Nautilus would have to be very deep under the sea indeed, but that's not what Jules Verne meant when he titled his book "20,000 Leagues". He didn't mean 20,000 leagues deep, he just meant they submerged underwater a little bit, then travelled 20,000 leagues around the Earth. Which makes a lot more sense, I guess, but it's a confusing title. The more you know. Anyway, this game is complete and utter garbage, and certainly a great insult to Jules Verne.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game only displays in a 4:3 aspect ratio, making me wonder what a terrible time mobile peasants must have had trying to play this on their iPhones.

The game features mostly static, barely animated 2D images, the kind of thing you expect to see in browser/flash games. While the artwork itself, while mediocre, might be considered passable, the visual presentation here is negligible, it might as well be a slideshow or a Youtube video. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Asteroids had more advanced animation and visuals going on than this game does.

The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the game display in fullscreen properly. There's a fullscreen mode, but this doesn't work properly, it just seizes your screen and then displays the game in a small part of the top left of your monitor. It's evident no testing was done for this game on modern PCs, but then again, this is a mobile app, so what do we expect?

Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. That's right, only 5. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is to be expected. Gamers just didn't take this low quality game seriously, and for good reason.

Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $2 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile game just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are?

As far as pro's go I was able to get this game for very cheap, however it is quite short, the puzzles get repetitive very fast, they cheaped out on the design of several recurring characters and there seem to be a number of translation issues with how some of the objects are described.

This one leaves a lot to be desired.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea - Captain Nemo is a short hidden object/puzzle game inspired by Jules Verne’s famous novel. It’s not a standout title in the genre, but it’s functional and might appeal to fans of light, casual gaming sessions. The story loosely follows the adventures of Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus, but it’s not exactly gripping or memorable.

The gameplay is typical for hidden object games: you search for items on cluttered screens, occasionally solve puzzles, and progress through a series of chapters. Unfortunately, the item names sometimes make things harder than they need to be. Poor translations, like calling a painting a "table," can leave you scratching your head. If you’re patient, though, it’s more of an annoyance than a dealbreaker.

The art style is serviceable, with colorful backdrops and a bit of an old-school vibe. However, the visuals and animations feel dated compared to newer games in the genre. On the positive side, the game doesn’t throw in any frustrating mechanics, and the puzzles are straightforward enough to keep you moving forward.

Overall, Captain Nemo is fine for passing the time, but it’s not a must-play. If you’re a fan of hidden object games or Jules Verne, it might be worth grabbing on sale. For everyone else, there are better options out there.

It was super fun at first with the graphics, variety of hidden object games, point and click puzzles with an occasional jigsaw thrown in. But once it became mostly completing the ink style block puzzles, I got bored. I kept hoping the next level would return to the point and click, hidden object style puzzles, but no, maybe after a few point and click steps out of the area, yet another block puzzle. And then another, and another. Too boring at that stage (early in the game), I never would've purchased a block puzzle game, ever. Very disappointing purchase.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea - Captain Nemo is a small but insignificant point and click game. The game is very close to the original story by Jules Verne and is graphically beautifully implemented. It has a good change between Hidden Objects games, mini-games and storytelling.

The game is a bit older and accordingly not up to date optically and mechanically. Those who have a problem with it should avoid the game. If that doesn't bother you: It's short, but a nice little pastime.

Too bad this game isn't optimized for today's standard, these games were made for 4:3 screens, full screen mode is still 4:3 with a lot of empty space around it. How in earth are you going to see what you need to see if it's so damn small? Then it got those magnifying glasses, but it gets deactivated at most times.

Normally I recommend every hidden object game, but lately, I look very closely if they have full screen mode like it supposed to have. Otherwise I rather not bother buying them.

For the game itself, it works. And if you like to collect them, buy them! Like I did, I bought it, because I love Hidden Object Games.
There is only one thing that bothered me a little bit, you need to find an object in like, 5 times. You click the object, it doesn't go away, it just lights up slightly. If that doesn't bother you, be my guest!

Worth Buying or Not in 2019?

Unless you got a 4:3 monitor, you will enjoy this game. But we are in 2019, most people have big screens, so you might not enjoy it that much. And because of that, I do not recommend it.

This is a visual novel without choices and lots of easy mini games. The price is more than fair.

The game really shines where it recreates scenes from the original novel. Don't be surprised if you get a craving to read the actual book! It has good graphical artwork but only sparse sound effects and no variety in the background music. About half the mini games are hidden object scenes, the other half are mostly puzzles and clicking fast on the correct objects. It has a bunch of other mini games to mix things up.

I’d probably go with a mixed review if I could. It’s not terrible, but it’s not that great either. I’ll give it a thumbs up for the zoom feature. That’s pretty useful in a Hidden Object Game (HOG).

I think that this game was originally written in French. The translation is usually okay, but there were some errors, so I didn’t always know what hidden objects I was supposed to be looking for. I eventually figured out that “rope instrument” was supposed to be “string instrument”, but I needed to use a hint for “table” in order to see that “table” was supposed to be “painting.” (The French word for painting is “tableau.”)

For the most part, the game was pretty easy, but I did need to use some hints. The hint system is pretty good. At first, it looks like the game limits you to only six hints, but you can get more hints if you use them up. There is no penalty for using hints. You won’t lose an achievement by using hints, because the game does not have any Steam achievements. There are no trading cards either.

Final verdict. Not really recommended, but if you want to try it, wait for a sale.
