This game is amazing, but it would be really REALLY dope if it had a way to submit my own songs (Golden Ear Strikes Again , all DSP) to the game. Strictly boom bap. Kid Koala ya'll. Nuff, said.
Parapa The Rapper vibes.
love it
A cute and stylish game about break dancing. The main gameplay follows the usual music game campaign mode where you're a nobody with talent who needs to face off against all the established faces at venues of increasing prestige.
The gameplay is surprisingly technical as you can employ a variety of authentic dancing styles varying speed and intensity to pull off stylish moves and dunk on the opponent. Personally I found it maybe a bit too authentic. The game rewards you for doing different moves, but it's not really clear how the scoring ties to what you're doing other than that repetition is frowned upon.
The soundtrack is provided by the incredible Kid Koala who I've listened to a long time back, while the animation by Jon Jon is sketchy and captures the youthful vibes the game is going for. Sadly the gameplay isn't very engaging - there's no motivation to pull off specific moves, it all runs on creativity and freestyling which may work in front of an audience, but by yourself it just feels like spinning the wheels for the sake of it.
It's a creative effort and tries something new, but isn't very substantive for those outside the breakdancing scene. This feels like one that's only going to be appreciated by the audience it portrays.
Trancey rhythm game with tons of unique animations, cool moves, fun to explore. Master your fave B-person and master your least fave bc it's a great game. Worth multiple playthroughs. Perfect game for people who don't want to look at mouths (gross).
It doesn't explain everything so good but it's okay, look it up. Or message me and I will tell you, because googling Floor Kids will bring up a lot of gymborees.
Fun Rhythm game i played with controlller.Played the 2 player battle mode for the most part. Songs and bBoyz to unlock through a story mode which i have yet to do.. Complex if u want it 2 be by stringing combo's together like a breaking version of tony hawk is best i can come up with right now. Also super forgiving and easy to play as my 4 year old nephew had a blast button mashing. Fun game esp if you grew up wanting to breakdance when u grew up but realized it's hell to get old and this game lets me do flares without putting in the months of pushups and practice.
fun game for anyone..which is a rare thing!
Full Recommendation! FunAF. would have played sooner if i knew what i was missing
nice beats, nice moves, NICE GAME!! rly funn to play. maybe a bit tricky as beginner=)
A unique and fun rhythm game although it certainly feels held back in some regards.
The sheer amount of animations for all the different moves is fascinating and the rhythm system as a whole is enjoyable and varied. Beyond performing moves there's a decent amount of additional mechanics that help diversify the gameplay. Although at the same time the combo and freshness mechanics are counter intuitive to that. Players are rewarded bonus points for performing each move for the first time during a performance, which exclusively serves to encourage players to just cycle through all their moves to get the one time bonus for each. This mostly just equates to a veiled chore, and would be better if players were instead awarded points for the variety in how they transition between certain moves. The combo system is the same, it rewards players for performing specific combinations of moves based on their character; which exclusively just encourages repetition to maximize points. It would be more interesting if the combo system was randomized and demanded players perform a random sequence of moves to get bonus points instead of a select few fixed ones.
It's also annoying when the player gets a crowd request for something they're already doing, the game should be coded not to pick crowd requests for things the player is currently doing. Additionally it's annoying that in the moves list screen players have to enlarge each move to see what button it is tied to, instead of the button just being shown alongside the move on the list.
The music is decent but I feel like for a rhythm based game it could of been better, but it's understandable considering that it is an indie game. It is definitely short considering the price, but the weakest part is by far the story. At the start of each unique area there is a brief comic sequence that talks about the art of dancing like a parody of the whole classic martial arts metaphorical monologue kind of thing. It's boring. They could of come up with a neat story involving dance in this cartoon world, huge amount of possibilities, and they could of had a small cutscene after each performance or so. It would of added a decent amount of length to the game and gave it a lot more charm and individuality.
The game is still fun and although overpriced I feel like the gameplay itself offers an interesting enough experience to be worth trying. It's just unfortunate that some of the mechanics don't promote more variety and the story is so barebones and dull.
Great game, a lot of fun.
Very short, worth it on sale. beat it in 2 hours, got all the achievements in 1 hour.
Got this game for this soundtrack, because Kid Koala is awesome. Even though I'm not a fan of rhythm-based games, I find this one pretty good.
I have played this game for roughly an hour so and I would describe it a game that controls kind of like a skateboard game, but there's also a beat to follow. You gotta get the crowd pumped and keep the hype level up.
The gameplay is pretty simple :
- Round Starts
- You bust some moves, trying to look cool, making combos and stuff
- Some quicktime event
- You bust some more moves
- You get some points
Good stuff, try it out!
This captured perfectly how it feels in the circle!
There is so much to do and it rewards musicality and creativity like no other game.
Gameplaywise it's like combining Tony Hawk and a Rythym Game.
Theme wise it's the best dancing game ever.
Cheers, a B-Boy
Love this game, but I can't do powermove even I rotate the joystick really really hard!
I play the game on PC, and use xbox wires gamepad ...
neither have powermove in infinity mode nor story mode
and i try play this game under Pig picture and window screem, but the problem still..
there are many players have same problem on this game. anyone can slove it?
plz... I don't like anytime I play it my powermove score always "0"...
what can I do?
One of the best dancing games i played in a while.
If the multiplayer was wan and not lan it could be better but still worth a try if you like dancing games
Floor Kids is the best rhythm game to come out in a long, long time!
It's totally different from the average rhythm game: instead of following a track and trying to get all the notes right, you're put in a breakdance battle and have to let your imagination guides you! There are 4 move categories to let your creativity speaks, as well as some secret techniques, and 5 factors are taken into account when giving the players a score. You have to follow the rhythm, but other than that, you're as free as you can get in a game! Experiencing with the different characters and combinations will keep you busy and fascinate you for a while! And then, it's just fun to do a dance routine, and it's not a frenetic arcade-y experience like other games from the genre.
As far as I know, there are no other game out there that does the same. I hope this will start a new trend, or at the very least inspire rhythm games dev to push themselves and try new recipes in their games.
The only downside I see is that the game is pretty easy to master, and that I ended up just more or less inventing a choreography and following it with some variations. The scoring system is well built, but if you want to get the best out of it, that's pretty much the way to do it, instead of just improvising and using your inspiration.
The hand-drawn animations are delightful and suit the dynamic gameplay, and the tracks are catchy and support the dance routines very well. You can see this is a labor of love, and something done by passionate people involved in the hip hop scene. That's the thing I love about games made by people not from the field: they feel fresh and unique!
I hope it gets the success it deserves, and I'm ready for a sequel or some DLCs!
Is Floor Kids good?
Yes.
Is it $20 good?
...Probably not.
A deceptively deep rhythm game that I really enjoyed. There's a host of varied characters to play, the hand-drawn art style perfectly captures the motion in a way that pixel-art would never have done; and above all else it just feels really satisfying to pull out a sick combo.
If money is no object, ignore the big red thumbs down and consider this a solid "it's pretty good" - 7/10, pretty fun.
But I cannot in good conscience recommend a game that's only a couple hours long and has no depth to it. The whole game follows your typical mobile game formula - completing a song (which runs you two minutes) earns you from 1-5 stars (called crowns). You get X amount of stars in the first venue, you unlock the next venue, and so on.
There are 8 venues, each with 3 songs each. Getting 5 stars on the last three songs finishes the game, and that's it. That's your whole lot. 24 songs at 2 minutes each works out to 48 minutes of gameplay.
There's no other modes, there's no online multiplayer (multiplayer tag on Steam page aside), there's not even so much as a leaderboard to compare scores with your Steam friends. The game just ends and there's nothing left for you.
As it stands, I've 100%'d the game (well, kind of - one of the achievements glitched out and didn't unlock) in about 2 hours and 15 minutes of playing - I spent nearly one third of the time spent with the game open trying to get my controller to work with it and the other two-thirds actually playing it.
This game could really benefit from anything that extends that content it offers. Another mode or difficulty, way to create your own 'charts' for songs, online multiplayer, even leaderboards, something and anything.
But, while I did enjoy Floor Kids, I feel more than a little gypped out of the $26.50 AUD I spent for it. A game this short needs to be pretty damn great to justify it.
And it's good. Real good. But not great.
This is THE best indie game this year. The Soundtrack is currated by one of the best DJ's still in the game. The animation that was done by Jon NG another great artist not new to his craft. It looks like a comic book and plays like one between sequences, and the keys make it feel like I am playing tony hawk. The Animation stands out tho, way out there in the way that style matters! Great in game original animation makes the game a clear stand out, Jon Ng prevails as a master of his craft. The many characters in the game make for a customisation that makes for a good balence in product, versus playability. In wins in both of those catogorys, and also sets the bar higher for indie game devolpers. The crew was in a sort, a supergroup of artist, this is something that the community needs more of, colaboration between people, ideas, styles, and skillsets between and handpicked colaborators who will works well together as friends.
Floor kids is beautiful, fun to play from the GO, and hopefully we see a Floor Kids 2 on the horizion soon, or new additions to landscape. Hopefully John Ng will also continues his craft thru other games. Style matters.
10/10
This Game reminds me of B-Boy in the PSP and this delivers so muuuuuuuuch
I wish I could dance like these drawings :(
For someone who's never been into breakdancing before, I sure love this game. I suppose it helps with my past interest in hip hop beats at least. The art is amazing and the animations are smooth. Although the controls are very simple and every character gets the same inputs for different dance styles and categories, the characters still feel unique from each other based on their appearance, dance style, and most especially combo flow.
Then of course the music for a rhythm game needs to be good and I gotta say this song's soundtrack is amazing. I would definitely buy the soundtrack if they ever sold it here on Steam or anywhere else. There's more than enough variety in different types of beats, but in the end they all serve the purpose of hyping you up to bboy.
Some issues I have with this game, though, is the inconsistency of performing Power Moves. They not only look the coolest, they also help in boosting your score if you like getting high scores and getting the maximum amount of crowns to prove your prowess. It's weird, in Infinity Mode, Power Moves work perfectly fine, but I have no idea what causes this glitch that doesn't let you do Power Moves in story mode where you need them the most.
The song structures may get a bit drab at times as they're all around 2 minutes each, and they feature two choruses that serve as conventional rhythm sections you'd expect in most rhythm games where you gotta tap buttons at a specific syncopated beat. Otherwise for the verses you are free to freestyle and mix up your moves anyway you please as long as you're tapping any face button on repeatedly on every beat count. The problem I have with the song structure though is that it would have been nice to have some kind of outro sequence where you're challenged do some specific combos or crowd requests that force you to make up your own as opposed to the ones all set per character.
Other than that, I see myself enjoying this game for a long time. It's a nice sit back and relax kind of game with low stakes and maximum fun. Fix the Power Move glitch, maybe find a way to extend the verses and other modes where you can do more than just story mode with its 2 minutes songs or Infinity Mode where you're dancing in a bland background. I think that mode could benefit from being allowed to choose a venue to dance in, and possibly the choice to preview the sound of each song before you pick them in the menu.
Awesome awesome game. Well worth the wait!
So far, so good. This is a decent rhythm game, but it's not like guitar hero where you have to press buttons in sync with the notes. In this game, you have a move-inventory that you can use at will. Each character has a different set of moves and different skills for the four dance-categories: TopRock, DownRock, Power, and Freeze. The better you can string those moves together, the better your score will be. It's a simple premise, but the soundtrack by Kid Koala and art by JonJon makes the game fun and memorable. My kids and I like it because it is a low-stress game. Turn it on. Mess around. There is a muiltiplayer mode, but its only local (which is fine with us).
Floor Kids is a score-based, breakdancing rhythm game where the aim is to achieve the highest score possible by stringing dance moves together to the beat of a backing track. Imagine Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater meets a Rhythm based minigame. You’re awarded points based on how well you can flow between moves, the variety of moves you perform and the flair you achieve on your combos.
It only takes a few minutes before you start to feel as hip as your character dancing on the screen. All the character have their own dancing strengths and weaknesses, plus their own signature combos that can be strung together for extra points. The only other gameplay mechanic is a tapping section that occurs during the chorus of every song, where you need to tap in time with on-screen prompts, followed by a bar of freestyle tapping.
The gameplay is fun and the music on offer is great, but what really impressed me is the aesthetic design. The game utilises a hand-drawn animation style that looks incredible when in motion. Of course it isn't the most detailed, but the characters all have a unique style that makes me want to try out all of them.
So to conclude, Floor Kids is an absolute joy to play and it’s worth every penny.
Honestly the concept had me sold as a fan of hip-hop and the culture that surrounds it.
The artstyle is awesome.
Instrumentals are super dope.
Gameplay is executed flawlessly.
The only thing I could hope for is online play maybe, other than that, it's great!
UPFRONT: Game is very very short and will only last you probably about 2 hours of playtime depending on how fast you figure out the hidden mechanics.
Floor Kids is a rhythm game with not a whole lot of emphasis on the actual "rhythm" part and is more about stringing together moves in various character-specific ways and using all of your moves in one large combo. In that regard it's more like a skateboarding game than a rhythm game. The main thing is that you have a bunch of hidden moves the game isn't going to openly tell you about, but you will need to figure out (mostly) if you want to finish the thing. It's not a super deep scoring system, mostly just partially obfusticated. I figured it out fairly quickly so I was able to finish the game in about 1.5 hours and that's about where the complexity stops.
When you feel like you really "get" Floor Kids, the game doesn't open up or expand or otherwise grow in complexity. It just sort of ends. I then went and polished off the remaining achievements in a tidy 3 hours.
I dig the concept and I had like, a decent hour and a half of fun experimenting with moves while I got to grips with the system, but I'm a little blue-balled that it feels like it just ends as soon as you figure it out. It's a very thin package.
I'd probably only recommend this at a pretty decent sale discount, otherwise you're not getting a whole lot of bang for buck. It's a totally fine experience for that short while though, it just sorta feels like it could've been more.
Awesome game, I've been waiting for it to release on Steam since it was announced and it does not disappoint. Definitely a different type of game, the music and the artwork are amazing. You definitely have to come into this game with an open mind and an appreciation for music. If you've played Thumper you'll enjoy this game and appreciate the artwork
