Nowhere near as good as the first one, only a few new mechanics and too much focus on precise cube placement.
The first new mechanic is reflective walls, that allow you to bounce lasers around obstacles but also amplify even the smallest changes in angle.
For the first levels this isn't too bad, as the rooms are fairly small and having to go back and adjust the angle at which a beam bounces off doesn't take too long.
Then the game throws out of the window one of its main rules, by requiring you to use something in one room to solve puzzles in the next two rooms.
The first room is bad enough: you have to bounce a laser from the previous room down a hall and around a corner, go down the hall and around the corner to see if it's close to the right spot, if it's not you have to go back around the corner and down the hall again and slightly nudge the cube redirecting the beam.
When you finally get it close enough, you can redirect it into some targets and open the way to the second room.
Then you get into the second room, and realize you need to redirect that same laser to not only hit the targets in the first room, but also to hit a reflective wall and thus bounce into the second room.
So you go back again, try adjusting the cube in the first room, fail, go back even more and adjust the cube redirecting the original beam, then adjust the cube in the first room accordingly, repeat a few times...
And when you finally get the laser to bounce into the second room, you realize it's at such a bad angle you won't be able to complete the puzzle, better go back and try again!
I eventually got it in a decent spot, but that's not the kind of puzzle I'm interested in.
Also, a fair amount of puzzles felt too similar to setups seen in the first game.
Short, interesting puzzle game about lights and switches. I think you should get it on sale, though.
Picking up where the first game finished, we get two more cubes (mirror and mirror switch), a reflective wall to enhance complexity even more and again a bunch of extremely well crafted levels. I can't even comprehend how the design of some of those levels came together, amazing. With the same calming music, super clean graphics and a little bit of a backstory of what the facility is/was.
My only real issue are the last 3-4 levels. There are too many cubes. In my opinion more stuff to set up doesn't equal more complex levels. Its just getting tedious and convoluted, if the solution or idea behind a puzzle could be done with less. Unlocking a door with 5 identical locks might seem more complex but quickly becomes pointless when you realize 1 lock would do the same. Additionally a true or intended solution to a puzzle gets murky, because there are way too many ways to interact with everything.
I feel like the game is two steps forward and a slight step backwards, but I'm still looking forward to the 3rd part =)
I love the ReThink | Evolved games, the puzzles are challenging but not too frustrating. ReThink | Evolved 2 added some new mechanics that the first one didn't have, which was a nice addition to keep the puzzles interesting.
This is a very nice puzzle game. The graphics are great. I really enjoyed playing and found some puzzles very challenging.
It's more Rethink Evolved: puzzles about redirecting lasers. If you liked the first one, you'll like this one, and viceversa.
However, I do concede that I seemed to enjoy this one a bit more. I appreciated more the care that went into the level design, maybe it's the interconnected levels or the added complexity that the mirrors bring, but something made me realise that these levels were most probably not easy to design. Congratulations on this one.
Good game with relaxing atmosphere, nice puzzles and smart controls. Good visuals and sound. Definitely recommend.
The third game in the ReThink franchise. Like its predecessors, the game focuses on redirecting lasers with different colors. It is fun and gets really difficult later on. If you like first person puzzles, this is another excellent addition to the series.
A decent first person puzzle game. Thematically a sequal to ReThink | Evolved it is fact it's own stand alone game set in the same universe. It's not just a few more maps to the original, new mechanics are added, and the puzzels are made larger and grander in scope than before. Some are a bit uninspired and easy while others will give you that "aha" moment we all crave from our puzzel game.
A decent game for your average gamer, a good game for a puzzle afficionado.
Amazing and complex puzzles, stunning graphics, and overall incredible sense of wonder and space, with perfectly placed motes of developing story!
Gives you that Wheatley endorphin hit! Having played Rethink, Rethink 2 and Rethink Evolved, this is the best of the series so far. Great but challenging puzzles with just the right balance. Firmly in my top 5 puzzlers; would highly recommend.
Yet another great game in this series. They all have the same basic concept, but each adds its own unique twist to help keep things interesting. The puzzle design is top-notch, as is the graphical style.
If you liked the others in the series then you'll like this. The developer hasn't messed up yet.
On to the next!
Incredible and atmospheric masterpiece with magnificient visuals ,soothing locations which reminds me more like Mirror's edge:catalyst (sometimes I cant help wondering if this correctional facility belongs to Cascadia rulers :) ) and with background (hi)story more than ever.just buy and play.I bet you will never be disappointed
Another great puzzle game in the Rethink double series where the main goal is to figure out how to place cubes and redirect laser beams of various colors to unlock doors, disable cube destroying fields, move platforms or materialize bridges...
The game uses the same mechanics as seen in the previous opus Rethink Evolved, but also introduces new ones such as mirror walls, mirror cubes and rotating walls. Some of the puzzles areas are also interconnected and much bigger, and we find ourselves having to solve more than one laser puzzle per area.
Storywise, the game seems to be somewhat inspired by Portal. The player visits an old correctional facility where inmates used to be tested and evaluated through puzzles. Text panels describing the history of the place can be found in some of the puzzle areas.
If you like puzzles games like Portal and the Talos Principle, I definitely recommend this game to you.
Great button and cube puzzler with light reflection optics added - if you like games like Talon Principle or Portal, give this a try - it has very little in the way of story, just a collection of puzzles, but it is satisfying. The interior graphics are beautiful, very crisp and believable modern decor, and the mood is very relaxing. I found myself pausing to view a sunset or moonrise out of the windows.
Only real drawback is the lack of a storyline - in fact, if the developers had added an AI type character to control testing (earning release to the outside world), this could easily have elevated story-richness and broaden the game's appeal due to the fact that the game already has the player navigating through rooms in a sequence while being teased with tantalizingly beautiful exterior views of a city and flying vehicles which you do not seem to be able to reach.
Note on performance - the ReThink | Evolved series seems to run well on most modern laptops - the original ReThink games seemed to have graphics issues for some players (including me).
Excellent effort - the developers are to be commended - thank you for many hours of enjoyment.
LOVED IT!!! Just check the stats to make sure your video card can handle it.
If you are a fan of the ReThink series than you already know that it is basically aiming lasers at targets...period.
You solve the puzzle and then move on to the next room.
Fun and logical.
However, as you get into the last puzzle rooms, some of the lasers used in the last puzzle room may ALSO be needed to aim into the room of the next puzzle. Starts getting a tad complicated.
I hit the wall at room 25 and 26.
I liked it much better if they would just stick to one room at a time. Solve the puzzle and then move on to the next room. But who am I to complain; it was only 4 bucks!
If you like logical puzzles, spend the 4 bucks and give it a ride.
Not a fan of the "Evolved" subseries, with its more analogue aim (instead of diagonal/perpendicular placements of blocks), but that's not to say the games aren't still fun even with the extra challenge. This one is easily the hardest yet of the 3 titles I've played, taking double the time the previous games did on average. (Actually had to look up an existing solution to room 37! The placement on its ground floor section was too chaotic to even attempt.)
There were a couple things I noticed different about this game. Parts of rooms overlapped, and sometimes contained pieces of and solutions to each other, which was cool and helped me to feel like I was making meaningful progress. Platforming (like the tile-hopping puzzles) wasn't an objective this time, that I recall.
Ignore the following paragraph, I forgot my CPU isn't getting any younger. For some reason this game didn't run as well as the previous titles, sometimes dropping framerate to single digits. I had to wait a few seconds every time for it to return to a playable condition.
ReThink | Evolved 2 Is an Excellent puzzle game
Honestly I think that all of the ReThink games are excellent and I enjoyed every minute of playing them(I look forward to any in the future), and I recommend you to play all of them.
Just like previous rethink titles, this game do a good job for a small puzzle game, neat and challenge. If you like previous rethinks, you definitely want to try this. Focusing on beam redirction problem, Evolved 2 has deeper design and will kill your brain cell. Although this game has its tutorial, but I suggest starting from at least second game if you are new to this series. In this game difficulty curve is much more steep, it's a good feature for players who had played previous games, but may give newcomers a hard time.
Fantastic! I'm a first person puzzle lover and this one made me really rethink ha. The game is as smooth as the previous editions, so I give it a 10/10. It's on par with the tops ones.
As fun and compelling as the previous. The bigger levels are imposing but upon solving or watching the French kid solve them on youtube, they are very logical. Know that some lights don't care what color they are lit with while others are picky and watch for the mirror surfaces, all of them are there for a reason. Keep in mind these levels are interconnected so you might have to get resources from the last level into the next one.
Love how the boxes show the multiple target sites, have gotten used to this from the first one and think I'm doing alot better!
