This is a HOG game, plain and simple. If you like that type of puzzle - I mean Really like it - then you will enjoy this game because that is 99% of the puzzles. I had to take a break because I was getting a little tired of the monotony.
The game switches between the spooky atmospheric abandoned circus - and the very cheery and garish real circus. I honestly preferred the spooky scenes and rushed through the rest when I could, turning down the chipper music.
I'm intrigued enough by the story to finish it, but I'm definitely not going to finish it in one sittlng like I would most other games of this kind. ^-^

It's not an awful game, but the main plot (searching for an animal) is VERY long winded, and by the end of the game, I still have no idea what happened story wise. :/

I'm not a HO fan, although I enjoy them occasionally, especially if they're part of a story, but this one is different. It's very lovely to look at, the music is nice, it's a cute story, and best of all it's a circus setting, so that made me like it right away. And it's free, at least it was. On the negative side, the objects were rather small with not way to enlarge them, and it's rather long, which is good if you really love that kind of game. I'm too tired to finish but it's been three hrs, so far. I did take a break :) There are some fun games too, like blowing balloons off the ceiling! I love balloons...! So, if you like colourful, HO games, give it a shot, I think you'll enjoy it.

I really liked the first game - Regained Castle. It wasn't perfect, but good enough to be excited for the second game. Unfortunately it is so bad that... [sigh] where do I even start? Ok, let's start from afar, with the story. Usually you do not expect much from stories in HoG games, but even by HoG standars it's too weak.

Let's say, the game has so called bright "route" and dark one (something like flashbacks/reality). And you also have a story in both of these "routes". The bright part is so primitive that I'd call it infantile. The ending for bright side just breaks the cringe meter. The dark part is much more serious and at least initially looks very promising but in the end we get "where did this come from?" type of ending.

As to the HoG scenes and mini games - you meet them only in bright "route". Because all you have to do in the dark part - some pixel huning in total darkness to remove some debris just to switch back to the bright side again. What about HoG scenes? - boring and absolutely not fun. Items are s-so pigmy, that even small rooms look like giant derelict warehouses full of trash. Most of the time you are just trying to identify what you actually see on the screen.

Visually the game looks rather good. Local soundtrack is really repetitive, but I kinda liked it. UI here is very bad. It's clunky and unresponsive. Picked up wrong item? Good luck clicking everywhere, desperately trying to figure out how to drop this item.

As to puzzles and mini games - some of them were ok (like with the keys). Most of them were just boring and time consuming, like with baloons and glass shards (oh, my). And one mini game was so horrible, that I have no doubt that it was invented in Gestapo. And I'm talking about mini game with plates . These fairy plates have their own thread in local forum. You are free to check it. I played hundreds games in my life. VR games, competitive fps games, some really hardcore and unfair platformers... but this is the first (mini) game in my life, that gave me severe pain in a wrist.

If you are still planning to... hm, to taste this wonderful experience - here is my ultimate advice for you. Don't bother checking any guides or videos about this mini game. Even if you are a korean cyberathlete - you won't succeed. Because, turns out, this mini game is just broken on modern hardware. Yeah just that. I wasted almost an hour on this stupid mini game alone, tested numerous methods, followed different tips - all for nothing.

Only when I saw someone mentioning that it may be bugged for modern monitors - I immediately tested it myself. And that's indeed true. I checked this torture device on my older PC with lower hz monitor - passed this mini game from the first try. Also, I tried to lower framerate on my newer PC via Nvidia control panel - worked as well. The problem is, people reported about this issue on local forum, but it seems like developer pretends that there is no problem, you just have to git gut.

The controls for much of this game leave a lot to be desired, either making completing minigames frustrating to the point you just skip or simply forcing you to click around randomly in some places through a combination of bad click boxes and confusing instruction. Honestly it was just kinda boring as well.

Meh. It was worth me playing it because it had a unicycle in it.
Not sure if it took 4 hours because it was that long or because I paused to go eat. 🤔

Pay full price and you'll be a laughing stock.

Ok, so I just finished my first run through of the game, and overall, it was decent. Definitely not the worst hidden object game I've played. I played on casual for my first run through to get my footing and to see what the game was like, and I plan to play on expert on my next attempt for the rest of the achievements. I'm failing to see how any of the "mini games" can be harder for expert difficulty, but I'll find out i suppose.

Firstly to start off, I really enjoyed the graphics, and the background music I found relaxing and enjoyable to listen to. The tiger cub was absolutely adorable, but I wish we got to see more of it, not just reading where it went. The hidden object scenes weren't overly hard, but there were some decent spots for objects that weren't noticeable at first unless you are paying attention. As mentioned above, the mini game side of things weren't too complicated either, but a few did require you to think about how to go about it. Over all, for a casual play through, it was pretty good.

Now on to my critiques:
1). I really wish we got to explore/interact with the abandoned aspects of the circus. Not being able to look around or explore it, I was wondering what the point of including it was. You spend majority of the game playing in the main characters "memories" where the circus is thriving, that it completely overshadows what's real, and what isn't. The ending also makes the entire "abandoned" aspect seem pointless as well.
2). The game could have definitely used some voice acting or something to break up the scenes a little more and give the characters some individuality. Most of the circus staff lacked character, and I feel if they had voices instead of just dialogue boxes, they would be a lot more memorable. For me, all the characters blurred into one, and the only one with a tiny bit of individuality was the clown, who was given a little bit of character by being colour-blind.
3.) I didn't realise at first that you had to click on the paw prints scattered throughout the hidden object scenes. There was no indication that you needed to, and it wasn't until the second or third scene that I realised, and by then it was too late, and you can't go back to collect them. I found looking for the paw prints were more of a challenge than finding the actual items you need...

Overall, it wasn't an absolutely terrible game, but it was ok for a casual play through. I don't know how different expert difficulty will be, but I guess I'll find out later, and I'll update this then on what I find. It's not the best hidden object game in the world, but it definitely isn't the worst either.

First of all, let me say that the sequel to this game called "Regained Castle" is very good, and I do recommend that one. However "Lost Circus" seems to have been Sungift's first attempt at a hidden object game, and it shows. This game was clearly designed for touch screens, and some of the mini-games -- the plate spinning game in particular -- are very difficult to do with a mouse. I just barely managed to complete it after several frustrating attempts, otherwise I would have missed two achievements. The artwork in the HOG scenes is not very good; the objects you are supposed to find are tiny and hard to see, and the text labels are confusing. I bought this game on sale because I liked Regained Castle and I was hoping for more of the same, but unfortunately I cannot recommend it because it is just not up to the same level of quality.

A horrifically terrible point and click game. It's partly condescending and babyish, and then at times, ridiculously difficult and unnecessarily hard. The "Horror" aspects of the damp, derelict circus are barely explored and you spend 90% of the game interacting only with the happy, fun circus memories - and that's IF you can get them to interact. UI is terrible and the click boxes for the game are next to useless and can be borderline unplayable if you don't click one specific pixel, whilst the game mockingly tells you to do a simple task that SHOULD be simple, yet is next to impossible.

I finished it on expert mode in 2 hours, going slowly.
Don't waste your money, there are better point and click games out there.

This was short, but really sweet. It also seems to be the first HOG I've seen deliver in the story why the protagonist is doing the sleuthing and well, there was something about it that got me right in the feels. There were a lot of tiny details I appreciated, but I don't think I could mention them without spoiling things.

One of the better HOGs I've played, and if you don't mind it not having the glitz and glamour of bigger titles, I think you'll enjoy it too.

Completionists beware!

TL;DR- For a casual single playthrough, it might be worth buying if on sale or part of a bundle with better games included. But for anyone who might want to hunt achievements or anyone looking for an actual challenge, skip this one. 2-3 hours playtime first run.

Achievements are bugged. I played through a second time and never got the credit for three different achievements that I should've been given for that second playthrough. I was in the middle of trying a third run after deleting both my previous files to see if that works when I ragequit because I realized a milisecond too late that I'd missed a pawprint and would have to restart yet again. If you're the type who wants to have 100% of the steam achievements, you'll need to beat the hardest mode without skipping the puzzles or using hints AND get all of the pawprints in your FIRST run. Because there is NO going back to completed areas to get those last few paws. And there is NO replaying a puzzle to see what you skipped. And there are NO second chances. YOU LOSE. GOOD DAY, SIR!

Beyond that, several "mini-game" puzzle segments are just plain tedious and not actually challenging. The "put pieces back together" types are irritating because every single one has the pieces and the place you're putting them at slightly different perspectives. This makes shapes and color patterns both really difficult to use for no good reason.

A lot of the UI is unresponsive. Picked up the wrong piece and want to set it down? No, you CAN'T just click the spot you picked it up from. Have fun clicking madly for a few seconds before the game finally realizes that you want to let it go. Trying to spin a plate? Logic says spinning the mouse faster should make the plate accelerate faster, right? WRONG, THE PLATES SPIN ONLY WHEN THEY WANT TO SPIN.

It seems the majority of people struggle with two of the "mini-games" and yet the devs' response was basically "Well you must be doing it wrong." and nothing else. No tips, no troubleshooting, no links to actual game footage of the solution. And don't try looking up a playthrough on YouTube, because the solution that guy uses for the barbell puzzle is literally impossible in the game currently. And he's the only one with a full playthrough. You're better off just mucking around until you get it to work. Best advice for barbells: Try to get the plates of the same color together. Best advice for plates: Try setting your framerate down and/or using a windowed mode instead of fullscreen. And the best way I've found to beat the HO levels is to click madly around areas with a lot of items until the list is half gone. There's no penalty for misclicks, so you might as well abuse that, right? None of the objects are really that cleverly hidden, although a few are just plain unfair owing to things like the definition of what shape constitutes a "leaf" and the abysmal lighting level in basically 80% of the scenes or more (there's even one level where the light flickers slightly, and yes it is MADDENING when you're trying to see in the dark corners).

Completionists, be prepared for frustration and anger. Casuals, you might like a single playthrough, but I foresee at least a couple skipped puzzles and a few HO hints used. Spend money here at your own risk.

I really can't recommend it unless you get it for under a dollar and you want to kill some time. The story isn't really there -- it's like they had some ideas and just didn't fully follow through. Some of the clicking is fiddlly and it often doesn't explain what your supposed to click to work on a puzzle.

Got it on sale for under a buck. Short game but worth the discount price.

Lots of hidden object searches. They're pretty good.

Puzzle games are OK, most are generic, a few are different.

Overall story arc is fun, you're trying to catch a tiger cub which leads you all around a circus from your dreams. Paw prints are collectable. Music is meh, artwork is nice.

One thing that's unique about this game and not in a good way is that you play it on rails. You're led from scene to scene, no going back, no hunting around or traveling between scenes. So look carefully for the paw prints; you won't get a second chance to find them.

Forgotten Places: Lost Circus was a serious let-down after Forgotten Places: Regained Castle. If you have not played that, stop here, go play that. It's an incredible adventure/hidden object game. This? Well...

I'll make this short as I can. I'll admit $2.99 is not a lot to play for any type of game, but I just feel like there's much better hidden object games to play out there. Overall, this was kind of a waste of time. The story is ridiculous - even for a HoG - and quite forgettable. It's not attached to the other game, so you're not missing anything if you skip it.

The music is repetitive with little variety and gets old fast - completely the opposite of Regained Castle. There's not many places to explore in this game and it's just one hidden object scene after another. I know it's a HoG, but c'mon... There is no animation to speak of - a bit of camera panning about does it. No voice-over either.

None of the puzzles were terribly difficult. I count that as a good thing. I like to play these games for relaxation not frustration. The achievements all worked properly and can be completed in one play through. There is also no back and forth between many different scenes which can become frustrating.

+ Achievements all work properly
+ Puzzles are not too hard.

+/- Hidden object puzzles were decently designed, but not particularly attractive. Not bad, just didn't impress me I guess.

- Story. Silly and forgettable.
- No voice-over.
- No animation.
- Boring repetitive music. This is key to a game like this where it is mostly what you hear through the entire thing.

If it would have been a good game, I'd say it was too short, but as it was I just was impatient for it to finish.

Warning: Review contains spoilers! (Not that this game can truly be more spoiled than it already is.)

In this game you play as Joy Wander, a woman who is having mysterious flashbacks about a circus. So on a dark and stormy night Joy decides to leave her husband and go search for the mysterious circus of her dreams. She leaves her husband a note about her disappearance so he doesn't worry, of course.

Joy arrives at an abandoned circus, and her flashbacks become more vivid- such that it turns out the majority of game play is spent in her colorful circus memories rather than the urban decay I was hoping for. Indeed, the derelict remains of the abandoned circus are far more interesting than the flashback scenes and the idiotic characters Joy interacts with. As it turns out, the plot of this game revolves around apprehending a missing tiger cub in the flashbacks. A cub that, for some reason, the circus staff seems to regularly allow to wander around as it pleases, rather than keeping it confined to the tiger cage where it belongs. What could go wrong?

In the game, very little time is spent in the derelict "current" scenes. In the derelict scenes, you have to manipulate some objects in order to open the way to the flashback scenes. Manipulating the objects involves just a bunch of random clicking on the screen, because there is relatively no guidance on what you are supposed to do. Once you get through the puzzles and into the flashback scenes, you get some dialogue with stupid characters who are of no help to you in your quest. Instead you have to help them with their chores by doing hidden object scenes. To the game's credit, the hidden object scenes in the flashbacks aren't terrible- this is really the game's only redeeming quality.

Once Joy catches the tiger cub and recieves accolades from all the stupid characters, Joy returns to a derelict scene that features a bizzare electronic machine. Apparently this machine is the reason that the circus is in it's abandoned, decayed state. There's no explanation as to who put that machine there, or why they did it. There's no explanation why the chase for the tiger cub was integral to the plot of the story. It just felt like the developers were in a pinch to finish the game by their deadline, and were like, "The cause of the circus's woes was due to an electronic machine that showed up for no reason, but it warps space and time! Don't worry about why- just accept it! Oh, and here's a tiger cub."

This game would have been better served if it had been split into two vastly different games. Use the haunting, derelict scenes to write a haunting and eerie story line; then take the colorful scenes, tiger cub, and dopey characters and write a seperate game to market toward children.

If you like hidden object puzzles, this game has lots of them, running from medium to hard difficulty. The other types of puzzles are on the easy side. The music is great! The only complaint I have is that in several scenes it was entirely unclear to me where I had to click to get something to happen as there was no hot spot indicator at all. Expect around 3 hours of gameplay.

Note: This game leads you by the nose from one scene to the next. If you miss finding a pawprint, you cannot go back to get it.

Works fairly well on Linux with Steam Play / Proton though you might experience a crash. It it crashes, you can restart from where you left off.

I think Sungift Games did a much better job on Forgotten Places: Regained Castle than is game. This is a short HOG but everything seems to work in it. Some of the puzzles can be difficult and a few object are hard to find in the HOG scenes. I am looking forward to futher Steam HOG games from Sungift Games.
