this game rules fuck all the haters!!
I just finally completed the book; "The Journey to the West," and I'm excited for the upcoming game Black Myth: Wukong. This game is holding me over for now its pretty fun. Its an arcade shooter from the 1980s starring Sun Wukong; the Monkey King. It can be very addictive its worth your time.
Yo, I played a ton of 8-bit Cloud Master for the Sega Master System back in the 90's. This is an updated version with better graphics, better music, a smooth 60 fps--wait, 2-PLAYER CO-OP?!? WUUUUUTTTTT?!?!?!?!?
With a majority of these type of games on Steam being the more modern bullet hell style, it is refreshing to see one with classic gameplay. While there are still plenty of bullets on the screen, Monkey King: Master of the Clouds finds its difficulty through more primitive techniques, such as a large player hitbox, the collection of powerups (and their loss on death), and having to restart from set locations. The game is very challenging, but the ability to start the game from any round previously reached makes replaying to improve very manageable.
The theme of this game is very unique to the genre and was the main reason it caught my eye as I was browsing the Steam Golden Week sale. The visuals are perfect, the setting provides an exciting game world, and the music is superb (I sometimes leave the shop screen open longer than needed just to listen to the song that plays during it). Hopefully the developers consider releasing the soundtrack on Steam.
One feature missing is the ability to change the keyboard controls, but the default controls are quite good. When playing single player, any of the keys assigned to player 1 or player 2 can be used, giving some extra versatility. I also wish the volume could go lower (it only has a few options), but this is easily remedied by further lowering it via the Windows mixer. Apart from those two minor inconveniences, the game is flawless.
Thanks to the developers for releasing Monkey King: Master of the Clouds on Steam!
Hello.
Monkey King: Master of the Clouds hates you.
It hates you for playing it.
It hates you for thinking you will ever beat it.
It hates you for thinking that you might survive for more than a minute or two.
Monkey King: Master of the Clouds is designed by people who clearly sustain themselves by drinking the salty tears of their victims.
Why would you ever want to play Monkey King: Master Of The Clouds? Perhaps it's for the promise of beautiful stage backgrounds, inspired by classical Chinese and Japanese art. Perhaps it's for the lovely, well-animated, vibrant character sprites. Perhaps it's for the deceptively upbeat music, completely at odds with the sheer sadism which fills the black hateful heart of this game.
Perhaps it's because you want a challenge, after silly casual games like Dark Souls have lost their appeal.
Perhaps it's because you have the sheer stubbornness to keep playing a game that has absolutely no regard for your feelings, or any notion of fairness, and exists solely to punish you harshly for any deviation from perfection.
Oh Monkey King: Master of the Clouds, I hate you too. Oh how do I hate you.
Yet I keep playing.
Deep down, there is a fun little game hidden here. It's just missing most options and features required for modern pc use. In this state, I cannot reccomend it, but I am hopeful a future patch fixes these issues. And when it is fixed, I'll gladly play more of it.
Required Features Needed:
-Currently there is no way to rebind controls from it's awful defaults, which is particularly jarring when you first open the game and have no idea on the keyboard which button is your shot button to start the game. Hint: its the Right Alt or the / on your number pad. Obviously you should have known that.
-Currently there is no way to change the resolution of the screen from pseudo full screen.
Features I'd Also Like To See Added:
-When you lose a life, instantly restart where you died, not at a checkpoint or the start of the level.
-Smaller, distingushed, hitbox
-Rapid fire (press and hold) firing
-A short explaination of what the different pick-ups do in a tutorial or in how to play menu.
-Life gauge on bosses
-Certain enemies to have less health, particularly the enemies guarding your special attacks.
