Way, way less fun than the other games. They added too many bullsh*t mechanics
Thumbs up!
Trees are op
Kingdom Rush Origins is the third installment in the Kingdom Rush series and the chronological prequel to the first Kingdom Rush game. Taking place on the southern continent 30 years before the original game, the enemy factions and towers are entirely new as we play as the Sylvan elves instead of the Linerean Army like the first game.
The game follows a typical tower defense formula with plenty of other systems that improve the experience. The main gameplay consists of building towers in strategic areas to form choke points with barracks and your hero, and using spells when necessary to support your defense. There is plenty of strategic depth to be had- enemies have special abilities and armor, so you will need to consider that when formulating a defense to beat a level.
One thing that this game does incredibly well is the down time between upgrading your towers. In other tower defense games, it can become mindless and boring quite fast waiting for enemies to die so you can get the next upgrade. Kingdom Rush Origins completely subverts this typically genre complaint by always giving the player something to do. Reinforcements can be placed anywhere you desire and have extensive techniques to support your defense. Your hero has special abilities that can be micro-managed to get the most benefit from them. You have a variety of spells that can be used strategically to clear hordes of enemies that would otherwise break through. Almost every level has some kind of interactable to soften up or kill enemies, bringing benefits if you care to pay attention to them.
The content flow in this game is immaculate. Every level has something new, whether it is an enemy, tower, interactable, bonus tower, or mechanic to strategize around. In addition, every level has 2 challenge modes by completing the base level, and these can be fun and challenging to try and complete.
There is also metagame progression to be made if you're interested in that kind of stuff. Completing levels will give you stars that can be used to purchase permanent upgrades for your towers and spells. Each hero also has upgradable abilities and XP can be earned for them simply by playing levels. It's very satisfying to get each upgrade as they all feel considerably impactful.
Audio and visuals are excellent. The drawn graphics and animations convey so much character rarely seen in other games, and the towers all feel badass and awesome once you upgrade them, partly thanks to the neat little one-liners they deliver. The comics seen at the beginning of some levels are great too, and help the player feel invested in the story. Speaking of which, Kingdom Rush Origins does the best job conveying a story of the 4 games in the series. It provides plenty of character development and fanservice for the original Kingdom Rush game.
This game is probably the best tower defense game out there. If you're considering it, then I would highly recommend, even if you haven't played the original KR!
Very good but also VERY hard to 100% you're going to spit blood
Fun just to shut your mind off and play this.
I used to really enjoy this game, and I 100% it multiple times on mobile, but steam version keeps crashing, and there doesn't seem to be active support.
Game becomes unbeatable on later stages, purely because it can just crash at any moment.
I'd say that even if you enjoyed these games in the past, it's not worth a purchase in its current state
A classic tower defense game loaded with engaging mechanics and chock full of charming pop cultural references, fellow fantasy worlds, and classic literature. A game made by nerds, for nerds :) Hero system is fun, with some being far more useful and memorable than others. Trophies are a grind, but I appreciate games that work to separate the casuals from the try hards.
It's an excellent tower defense game that continues the legacy KR series created.
If you've played Kingdom Rush series before, you know what to expect - if you haven't, do yourself a favor and try it.
One of the big benefits of Steam versions of KR games is that they're moddable, and community came up with some very good mods.
Again, do yourself a favor and try it!
Its ok. I agree with other reviewers that there's something not quite right about this game. But I cant identify what it is. Good fun though and worth grabbing if on sale.
wheres my endless mode ironhide
A really fun Kingdom Rush entry. The most glaring downside for me is that the artillery options are not particularly exciting; the Arch-Druid Henge isn't great IMO, while the Weirdwood is cool but expensive (both have their uses, though). But there are a bunch of viable heroes and I like the upgrade paths more than those of the base game and Frontiers. And it's really fun that both barracks units are fantastic and have distinct uses from each other.
This one's different. Feels different, looks different. Still great, play it, simple as.
An interesting addition to the series, with a more unique core 4 towers to use. I feel that the changes to these towers suit the game greatly, not feeling wildly different mechanically and putting an interesting spin on the campaign with some changes (e.g. barracks soldiers being able to use ranged attacks now). Overall a solid game with fun new ways to play and develop strategies for each level.
Weaker than its predecessors. Why? In my opinion, it boils down to a few things, starting with the active ability. In the first two games, the meteors you call down can be impactful, but they always felt like an "extra" thing you were doing (rather than being "needed" to complete the stages).
In this installment, you call down thunderstrikes. They're significantly more powerful right out of the gate than the meteors from the first two, but they're also very frequently "needed" to complete the missions. I'm not saying that the missions can't be played efficiently and completed without them, but they become a constant way of completing stages. Over and over again, I find I've really just been slowing down the monsters to buy time and hold on for another cast of the thunderbolts. It makes for a less interesting gameplay experience. Yes, in the first two installments, I would have moments where the meteors "saved the day", but nothing at this frequency.
Furthermore... I also think that the overall tower set in this game packs less punch than in the previous games. There isn't any combination of towers that the game allows me to go for that I get excited about setting up.
One bright note, there are fewer lone "air enemy waves" on maps to catch a player off guard who's doing great but skimping on anti-air (how dare we skip anti-air when we've seen zero air units until half-way through our waves...). Instead, this game opts for either 1) waves that suddenly overwhelm your barracks and push through (and then the monsters split two separate ways so you can't drop soldiers to plug them up), 2) enemies that disable your infantry and walk past, or 3) big golems who smash soldiers quickly, causing you to have to call-down on them and juggle with rax/hero to buy time for thunderbolts.
There's also a notable uptick of "annoying" achievements to chase in this one. Use X ability Y many times. Kill X enemies while they're under Y affect. While the previous ones had maybe 5 or so maps I had to go through to click on some things for completion, they decided to make the worst installment the one where you have to chase after more things. I don't know if I care to 100% this one. I've been looking forward to wrapping it up.
One last note before closing - the actual animations and the "feel" of the gameplay is somehow getting worse for each game. It's getting floatier.
So... I've finished the game and got all my stars... time to move along, perhaps. If this is where the franchise goes in the sequels, I may end up quite happy that I didn't buy the collection.
I feel like it's this title that really made the serie start to evolve. I love the base tower of this one and the tweaks to the hero system.
Enjoyable
good
i do not recommend this game to any other human being
do not install this on your puter, you will regret everything and your puter will despise you and neglect you as much as it can for example as crashing, not running, failing to boot up, and not wanting to run this game.
please if you are reading this do not 100% this game, please!
worst group of towers in the series. y r the tier 4 archers average and slow shooters. y are there only 2 furry soldiers in the druid barracks. why is the strong tier 4 mage tower so weak. the tier 4 bomb towers are good though. this game litteraly hates the archer class and lightweight the mage class.

My adolescence
Neat. However, another sequel and still no fast forward feature, sigh...
The prequel to Kingdom Rush, and probably my favourite game of the series. The game mostly retains how heroes work from Frontiers for the most part but now heroes all have their own unique hero spells. The classic four tower types (Barracks, Archers, Wizards, and Artillery) all have an elven twist to them, with Barracks getting the biggest glow up in this game compared to previous entries. Highly recommend for fans of the series.

great childhood tower defence game
Timber!
Good
Kingdom Rush is one of the best tower defense games on Steam, in particular Kingdom Rush Origins was interesting not too difficult and boring. 8/10
I like the game. It's has an interesting story line, lot's of upgrades and heroes to unlock and the replayability is on par with some of the best. However, I feel like it falls a bit short of the exciting part of what makes a good Tower Defense game - holding numerous hordes of monsters with a bunch of very strong towers.
While the game allows for versatility and strategy, it's tortuous maps with creeps that cut paths short to cross your map - more often than not more than one entrance, not to mention how long it takes to upgrade towers - make it more an RTS game than a tower defense. If that's what you're looking for, this is the game for you
Have been playing Kingdom Rush Games for Years, This year I bought the game on PC. Absoultly worth it if you like challenging Strategy games
Is good.
Slightly disappointing tower defense game. 4/10
Positives:
Cute arty style- I like the character designs and the backgrounds of the levels
I like the length of levels. You can take time building a good layout and enjoy it vs. Other games where levels/waves will end right when you are fully built
Negatives:
Once you have a decent tower setup, the enemies simply make a new path that you have to adapt to. This isn't fun. It's challenging in the wrong way and takes out the gratification from watching your setup you spent 20 minutes on battle stronger enemies.
Cant change tower targeting like in other tower defense games (ie first/last, most health/least health, etc.)
Cant mute character voice lines or specific sfx without muting the volume of everything else. The characters shouting the same voice line every time you place them gets really irritating.
No speed up button for slow levels/slower parts of levels. This probably gets better later in the game but the early levels take a long time to build to any suspense that holds one's full attention/effort.
Great
The enemies are much more unique and the level design is the best in the series. Extra powers brought on my heroes is a feature that is absolutely revolutionary. Glad there's o more shop either. The story is great too, though much less funny than Frontiers is. In combat though your towers are hilarious.
Problem comes in tower balancing being clearly off, especially the Mage Tower. Half the branches the towers can go into is either weak if not outright painfully detrimental. On one end they finally make a game where Barracks is very good DPS, but in the other you trade that dpis for...less soldiers but they have ranged and less tanky? Someone clearly didn't playtest some of these.
So charming, very much love for this series. Very worth the money for again, yes indeed.
pretty fire
Well, Origins for me was the 'mixest' bag of the lot. I am a big advocate of Vengeance which is wrongly maligned by some and for all the false reasons. Alliance does not feel complete as of yet, without another expansion and some paid DLC, so I won't compare. Origins has a bland first stage in the forests, becomes better in the middle part and shines in the final stage of the campaign. The balancing is the most inconsistent you can find in any Kingdom Rush instalment, but this is alleviated as you get used to what strategies work reliably and which are wobbly at best. Origins is the most atypical of the series in that it is set way before the other games, but it doesn't play differently at all. In sum, it is a fun experience, and you can't do anything wrong with KR Origins, if you are looking for more tower defense.
Another real fun tower defence game from the creators of the previous Kingdom Rush games, this time focusing on some earlier time in the storyline and allowing your heroes to keep their max level earned from experience and having a variety of abilities to put levels onto.
Just like the previous ones, your earned rewards from different levels are used to improve magic spells and towers, granting passive bonuses that carry on through to the many levels in the future.
After finishing the game, new additional levels are released, being fairly difficult and forcing you to think extremely carefully on how to tackle the waves and bosses.
Luvly stuff
worth it if you find it on sale. too short to justify even $15 though
Honored to serve
Yes
Origins was my first iron hide game, way before, loved it then and love it now,
it needs better optimization for PC, and adding endless of course
.
Fun game
YEHHHH
46 hours to 100% last 2 achievements were a pain in the butt.
Very good game. Quality, creative and strategic.
Infantry is way too OP. You can easily beat the hardest difficulty by simply spamming Infantry
