this game is so interesting and i’m surprised i face hardly heard anything about it. i binged played it for multiple days because i wanted to unlock all endings with the characters and i still haven’t completed all the achievements so im wondering what im missing. anyways this game is simple, cute, and if you like ocean related stuff u will def like this
Fun, little game, mostly focused on talking to other characters (which I personally love), though you may want to get it on sale, since there's not much beside it and even though the game offers some replayability due to different choices and endings, it's not really a champion of loads of content and playtime.
I've played a lot of games, but I've never played anything like Mythic Ocean.
It's overall a cute and cozy game - with a philosophically eerie undertone that even veers into eldritch horror at times. Paradoxical? Maybe, but that makes it tonally the PERFECT game for me. Absolutely LOVED the storyline, with its engaging and emotional character backstories, humorous side stories (dolphins and swordfish can coexist!), and surprising twists. Make no mistake, despite the lighthearted veneer, it can get very dark, with even some of the best endings having uneasy pieces to them. There's no gore or anything truly disturbing, with the horror being subtle, implied, and psychological. Even if you don't have thalassophobia, there's no denying that the ocean is inherently unsettling, with its uncharted depths. If you don't believe that, go play Subnautica (another fantastic game!).
The character design is fabulous, with the standouts being Lutra (I hate bugs but I would commit atrocities for that hungry little larva) and Gnosis (cyborg Cthulhu???). The illustrations are also super cute, and the overall graphics are very pleasant - though some of the areas are a little empty. Dialogue is excellent, with all characters being clearly differentiated, and I didn't notice any glaring errors. I wasn't blown away by the music, but at least it's not annoying, and the sound design is overall very effective. Especially when you start going a little deeper...
Gameplay-wise, there is some fun exploration, but especially on subsequent cycles, it essentially becomes a visual novel. Surprisingly, many of the right choices aren't obvious, and it's a little frustrating how you can screw up a run by making one or two wrong choices. Case in point, I did my first cycle completely blind, and despite doing 90% of Lutra's storyline 'right', I wound up with one of the most horrific endings imaginable (all the more so because the bug I hate most is a MOTH - why you gotta do me like that, devs??). That being said, there's a decent, easily searchable guide online, and after two cycles you'll probably have a good handle on how to get what you want. Subsequent runs aren't too tedious when you know what to do, and it's not difficult to get all the achievements if you're careful.
I'm honestly floored by how amazing this game is. If you like your oceans with a calm, cute surface and dark, turbulent depths, I can't recommend this highly enough. Lutra for mayor!
Super sweet and cozy game, but it also has some darker elements to it. Music is good too, and the visuals look very nice, although they're simple. There are many choices you can make, characters to meet and so on, so I actually liked this one a lot.

Very sweet....very simple and pretty....but it feels unfinished. There are multiple endings depending on how you advise/interact with the npcs and after my first "genuine" playthrough I found my second "bad answers for fun" try pretty tedious, even with fast forwarding the dialogue. The endings were creative and interesting but still art storyboarding (pretty again, but not animated) and I expected a next chapter or something else to see how my choices affected the game. 5/10 pretty and sweet but very short and somewhat unsatisfying. Very low replayability for something with 9 endings.
Mythic Ocean is an adorable, fun, silly, and quirky little game where you get to explore the ocean and hang out with a few gods. I believe this was originally a Switch game, but seeing so few reviews on Steam is still kind of surprising. I love that parts of this game combine outer space and the deep sea; it's one of my favorite aesthetics in general.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: it lets you hate on dolphins!!! a dolphin game (Ecco the Dolphin) gave me a bad case of thalassophobia as a kid, and while I've gotten over the phobia, my dislike of dolphins remains.
my one complaint about this game is that there is a character who looks like an otter with 6 limbs, and there's also an adorable larva. one is named Lutra, and the other is Amar. even after playing this game for a few hours, my first thought anytime I see Lutra's name is "oh, that's the otter god." NO. Lutra is the larva-like god and Amar is the otter-like god. at the end of the day it's not a huge deal, but the sea otter's scientific name is Enhydra LUTRIS... but maybe this just highlights my prejudices on how characters "should" be named, lol
I do wish there was a bit more to explore, but I really enjoyed playing this overall. who knows, maybe someday the devs will make another similar game, whether it's a sequel or just a spiritual successor.
