Really Disappointing. The game in theory is really cool. Goalie drills you can do and have fun with on your own. The problem is that the game was made really poorly. Hitboxes don't make a lot of sense. Animations are nonexistant and many times you will see players shoot the puck with no animation prior making it absolutely impossible to do anything about it. Dekes don't make any sense as the players with just flip 180 degrees in each direction to the point where the only thing to do about it is to stay on the red line and hope the puck just hits you. None of those saves feel rewarding.
The devs built in a rebound mechanic that has certain AI shoot if you don't control your rebound which is fine on its own. However its so clunky. Those players actually never have animations for shots off rebounds, the puck always just flies at the net. Other times, they seem to shoot no matter where the puck passes them on their hitbox which seems to be a large rectangle that extends 2 feet off of their body. If you clear a puck into the air going mach 10, you bet if even a small fragment of that puck touches the top corner of the hitbox, you know that the puck is teleporting 5 feet to the ground and into the back of the net. Its not a proper penalty for lack of rebound control, its just a broken mechanic.
If you retry any level where passing may be involved, there is a 90% chance that the drill will break because the AI will stop working and become unable to receive a pass causing problems with the drill. The only way to reliably restart a drill without breaking anything is to manually go to the main menu, reselect the level you are on and then start from there. The retry button doesn't function.
Clearly the game wasn't ironed out or really taken care of. They had a different free version of this game where you just take shots and even with the lack of drill variety, its much more fun because it's not constantly breaking. This game needs many improvements but from what I've seen, the devs do not care and have abandoned the game. My main recommendation is to save you money and play something else more worthwhile. You could always save up for sense arena. I've heard that it's actually good.
the games great but their feedback system after shots is very annoying. there should be an option to disable it because i dont enjoy running a play then waiting 10 seconds for the next play
The game is amazing I have been using it for about a year and it has helped me a lot for hockey from the reaction speed to angles from the attacker
Very fun and lets you get in a good workout while working on your angles and quick reactions. Works great with a wireless setup. Hopefully the developers will create DLC for it, I'd buy it.
I had mixed reviews about this game until I realized it was my setup. I love playing it on my Oculus Quest using Remote Desktop. I clear enough room and I can get a great workout. However, I noticed goals would go in right past my glove or I couldn't knock away the puck (which the rebound scoring is a little bizarre to me). Come to find out, it was the wireless remote desktop app! While I didn't see a noticeable lag, the game physics definitely had a lag. Once I tethered my Quest to the PC and played corded, MAN! what a difference. Still technically works in remote desktop on the quest but less frustrating with a tethered setup :)
P.S. been playing Goalie for +25 years. The spacing and depth and angle work is superb! Definitely gives me a great workout (Just need to figure how to get my remotes in my gloves :P)

Its fun and a really great test for abilities . . . kinda theres some minor issues with full body tracking and kinda ruins it for me
Best Hockey Game on the VR currently.
I've tried every VR Hockey Game on steam and this is my favorite hands down.
**My few nitpicks**
- I don't have leg trackers and so using my pads proved difficult. They didn't seem to work as I had countless shots go under the pads as I was in butterfly.
- If the puck lands ontop the net it counts as a goal.
- When I would take my headset off SteamVR would crash.
- Only has 24 levels to choose from.
- This only happened once so I cant blame the game too much but, the puck was shot. and as it hit the bottom of my stick it went under the ice and into the back of the net counting as a goal.
This game still stands my favorite hockey game on the VR.
And 2nd favorite overall hockey game, just under slapshot.
Game is freaking awesome as a hockey and goalie dan. Goalie works very well, and all the different lessons are a lot of fun to play. I use to play their original game goalie challenges which was awesome, but this is now my favorite.
As far as negatives well the animations of the skaters aren’t the greatest but there good enough, and graphics could be better, but dam the amount of fun I have playing this.
Please bring this or a game similar to this on the quest.
Ive changed my tone
The free Goalie Challenge VR is more fun and works better. Players in this version behave oddly and it's hard to track puck movement and play positioning when the guy with the puck kind of just skips a bunch of animations and suddenly is facing the other way and passing it.
Scoring is really odd. There were many times I'd make a glove save and be standing there holding the puck and get a -25 rebound score. I literally can't control a rebound any better than be holding it in my glove. It's really a promising idea, but it just works really bad. Goalie Challenge VR doesn't have players passing, moving, screens, or a scoring system, but it actually works. As this one runs it isn't actually going to help make you a better goalie, and the freebie is more fun to play.
Game has a lot of issues. Puck bounces weirdly and not realistically. Chest shots that hit center still bounce oddly into corners or into goal. Pucks deflected behind the net still get a negative bonus for rebound. Picking up or dropping the puck while the score is shown changes the score based on rebound. Players will sometimes disappear and re-appear with a shot. Sometimes the puck goes through your equipment. When multiple players, you have no idea who is starting with the puck and sometimes they shoot right off the draw, so you have no change to really know there is even a shot coming. The free goalie game out there is better than this one.
Definitely the best paid goaltending game. Worlds better than Goalie VR's un-optimized release. It has it's issues, sometimes I feel like the puck goes straight through my glove or virtual shoulders, and sweeping the puck away with the goalie stick is near impossible.
Yet it's the most complete and entertaining tendy simulator out right now, and these guys are on the right track. If you're wondering what it plays like, it's the same dev as the free Goalie Challenge VR, so download that it give it a go, it plays pretty much the same way.
Suggestions:
-Remove the N64 power-up-style sound everytime we catch the puck, a solid sounding glove soundbit would be much more satisfying and less immersion breaking.
-Please allow us to hit the puck with the stick, it's frustrating when I can't get rid of the puck because of the clipping/non-collision.
-Small replays after goals would be amazing, this is the one thing that Goalie VR does right, and I would love to see it implemented in this better tendy game.
-This may be more due to my play area, but maybe a way to scale the rink? My play area is setup to the absolute limits of
possibility. Yet the game uses the boundaries as limits of movement, and not limits of actual shots. This means that if I
need to make a high blocker save (right side), there's a very good chance I'm going to punch a hole in my wall because the
play area limits align with the posts.
Anyways, freaking great game and I have a blast playing it.
UPDATE: The devs seem to have given up on this game as it is still the same buggy mess it was a year ago. The free version of this game is less buggy and all around much better.
There have been many times where a puck would go right through the equipment. If you choose to retry a level the A.I will no longer respond and you must select a new level to get it working again. Shots will sometimes come from the A.I's old position. This game is very unpolished and needs to be worked on a lot more if it's going to call itself a "VR Goalie Trainer".
First impression is this is not as good as the free one in many ways. The graphics look like they've been downgraded. The nice sunny outdoor level with the cool shadows has been replaced by a drab gray colors with no shadows in the whole game. And the performance is worse especially on the first level. Im getting a lot of reprojections.
I'm playing this with Windows MR which isn't officially supported so I'm guessing the other graphics glitches on the first levl are related to that. There's black stripes going up and down the screen they don't really affect gameplay but give a bad first impression.
If you can look past the broken graphics the gameplay is not bad. There's a variety of plays to go through with scoring and leaderboards. The final Pro arena is pretty great and gives a glimpse of what a real hockey game would be like in VR. pretty good game just not very polished. If you're a casual hockey fan like me you could probably get by with the free one which is better in many ways.
I had to change my vote to a thumbs down. Too many issues with the paid version. Now I've officially gone back to playing the free version. It's not something where you can just lower the price by 10 bucks and call it a day. ;) For one the lack of shadows impact the gameplay, you can't get good depth perception like the free version so you never know when the stick is contacting the ground. This feeds into the other main problem which is glitchyness clearing the puck. It's actually easier in the demo since you have a better idea when the stick is in contact with the ground. These are just a few of the many problems that are definitely not Windows MR's fault.
AWESOME. I Played ice for over 15 years and this feels very realistic. With the leg trackers it takes it to an even better level.
THIS GAME IS AWESOME!! By far the best goalie VR game I've played so far. The drills are both fun and challenging and it actually teaches you some great fundamentals on how to be a real life goalie. Incredibly interested to see how it develops.
What a workout! My heart's racing and my body's aching. I'll probably be walking around the rest of the day with a dumb smirk this game put on my face. If you want a fast, fun VR experience then suit up.
Netstar's is probably one of the most advanced, and most fun VR Goalie simulation/realistic game i've ever played in general, hoping to capture best goalie movements and simulation from EA's NHL, but this just blows it out of the water, I spoke to the developer, and he is looking to possibly add real games, and also other features this is just simply one of the best hockey related games on the market, Looking to get more hours into this.
