Good game, but I think I enjoyed just driving and chatting with the passengers more than the main story. Some of the mini-stories with the passengers were original, and some were just very chill. Also, I didn’t like Savy at all.
The main story is too predictable and boring due to the poor characterization of Savy; the climax of the plot is more like a textbook of emotional manipulation and how to counteract it lol
Side stories of passengers are much more interesting, but unfortunately you would need to replay the game multiple times in order to read all of them.
Also, I think the max money you can make in this game allows you to stay at Babylon for two nights. It is sad that the option disappears after staying there once.
I'm disappointed.
This game has a lot of potential, but it doesn't live up to it. I initially played the demo on switch back in 2020, I didn't buy the full version at the time but it always lingered in the back of my mind. I bought it on sale for $2 which, in my opinion, is the only reasonable price for this game.
It isn't a very involved game, there's not much other than clicking dialogue options and picking what passenger you're picking up and where to fuel up. I completed the game within about 2 hours, and spent an hour or so in the pause menu.
The dialogue is misleading, in that it leaves you with the illusion of choice. Many times options are barred by emotional state or they just simply aren't the right one, and will lead you back in a dialogue loop to the right option.
The ending was very anticlimactic, I don't like that the ending was basically out of your hands and out of sight.
I really and truly think this game had so much more potential, I'd love to see an improved sequel one day. The characters that you have the most interaction with are written well, and I did feel like I had a connection to those characters, but others just felt like place holders. The aesthetic is nice and I enjoyed the art style, but we don't see very much at all, 90% of what you see is the back seat of the car, which doesn't really make sense considering how nice the art is.
Pretty simplistic and a little rough around the edges, but I still found the story enjoyable - at least the version I got on my first playthrough. Even if I won't spend any time exploring alternative storylines, I think I got my money's worth.
Love this game! Futuristic vibes with dialogue that makes you think and laugh.
It feels like we barely scratch the surface of this world before the game ends: I wanted to know more! Still, the art is great, it tackles important resonant themes of technology and worker exploitation, and there's a nice mix of resource management and dialogue challenges. The focus on facial expressions might be a little off-putting but it's a big part of the gameplay and I think are animated very well. The cast of characters is interesting as each has their own story and dilemma you can choose to help out with. I hope we get a sequel, as I don't think this game quite went as deep as it could have.
A casually dystopian visual novel that delivers on the expected experience.
The "main story" is intriguing enough in a very straightforward way. But what really gives the game a genuine sense of immersion and entertainment, is the various characters/customers you meet.
Positively surprised at how captivating this game is! There's def some jankiness to it, with how the dialogue plays out sometimes and also the cuts between scenes skipping text from time to time for example. But over all I thouroughly enjoyed this! Very good writing, interesting concepts and intriguing characters. Also made me question my own character irl a bit, and that is a huge compliment! Love it when games stir up shit inside!
have you ever heard of global warming someone needs to stop that guy he keeps opening the door to my greenhouse and peeing on my marigold flowers
Still love it with multiple play throughs. It is a rich world and I love the general vibe. It feels oddly topical with the recent weaponization of cell phones and pagers, while also being just removed enough from our world. I also really enjoyed the soundtrack. I would happily invest in a sequel.
Only did one playthrough of the game so far, but I did enjoy it. I'd recommend it for someone looking for a chill game. It does kind of make you think. The story was interesting enough to keep me engaged.
Good writing, decent story and great characters. Loved it.
I picked this up on sale and really enjoyed it. Great visual novel with lots of interesting characters and conversations.
I don't care the negative reviews, I really enjoyed this game. At the end, that's what matters right?
The story is really immersive and perfect to chill. VERY relaxing. I just wish it had more background scenes or you could explore and see more cause the general vibe is really beautiful. Awesome game :) Would buy if it had a sequel.
PS: Buy it on sale!
gud gaem
Really decent, give it a try on discount
Great game! Quick enough to finish in a few days, but looks like there will be plenty of variety to play multiple times for fun. If you are in to narrative storytelling games, give this a go. And who knows, maybe one of these realities I WILL be a quantum witch after all ;-)
Very intricate visual novel with opportunities to "choose your fate". Rich characters, relevant, thoughtful narrative. RISE!!!!!
I wasn't expecting much when I bought it, I thought I'd like the games vibes and the world, but the story was surpisingly very gripping :}
indie games sure keep surprising me, and you can tell there was much love poured into this. def reccomend.
Neo Cab's broader social critiques really hit the mark. We play Lina, a cab driver trying to make it day to day in a not-to-distant-future where surveillance, technology and capitalism have all but removed every last freedom for the individual.
The gameplay is relatively simple but with only a 4 hour runtime, it doesn't need to be anything more. However, the broader personal narrative for the protagonist and the limited options we have at expressing our own agency within the story left me frustrated. Maybe it was my decisions throughout the game that caused my Lina to become everyone's doormat, but the story resolved in a way where I never had the chance to stand up for myself, no matter how much I wanted to, and that left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I would certainly recommend Neo Cab and I would be keen to hear about other's experiences with the game.
Cyberpunk Uber simulator but as a San Francisco visual novel set in cyber Los Ochos. It's obviously written by Leigh Alexander and her narrative voice shines through. The graphics are beautiful especially for something made in Unity. The atmosphere and music is nice although it can be slow at times. You're basically exploring the narratives of your customers which are delivered episodically. The final emotional battle between Savvy and Lina owes a lot to the insult sword fights from Monkey Island.
Worth playing if you've got it in your backlog and worth a buy if it's 85% off. It'll last you a quick night or two. It just kind of ends without anything visible occurring on camera. Sometimes it feels weirdly prescient like the germophobe and giant worms before COVID and the Dune remakes. Most of the passengers are jerks in a San Francisco techie/tedious revolutionary kind of way. It's definitely written by an American, not a single passenger sits in the front passenger seat.
Pretty much everything Fellow Traveller publishes seems to be worth a look and is very highly polished. Suzerain and The Pale Beyond are both better as games than Neo Cab, but it's no slouch and worth a look.
what a waster of time and she made me drive 6 days
