Not terribly long and without much replay value, but still a fun, if rough around the edges romp, especially for the price.
A short and easy action/adventure game, but it's a nice distraction for the price.
I recently returned to this game and don't know why I stopped in the first place! :)
A simple game to beat in one sitting if you are wanting something fun with little commitment. This game gets a review of being content for what I paid for it, but is not one I would brag to my friends that is a must buy.
Going through the doors I found to be the hardest part actually! For some reason Ukhar has to turn sideways or something to get all those muscles through a Zelda style door. Link never had that problem!
Controls took a sec to get used to and his roll can get stuck on things at times. Usually when I see reviews that say bad controls, I do not play them. Ukhar does not fit into that category to where I would say this game is an avoid game.
I enjoyed the graphics and the Conan Art style. The story isn't much but it fits for what they were trying to do with a short game, and the cutscenes were well done graphically I felt.
P.S IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE SCORPION BOSS READ BELOW.
I went behind him right before the fight happened and killed him without getting hit by it's laser. Old school gaming ftw! :D
A tribute to AMiGA gaming and made with lots of love. Has similar graphics to the old GODS from Bitmap Brothers.
Deja vu:
The feel I had when I first got my AMiGA 500 when I saw the opening sequence in Psygnosis BARBARIAN was fantastic. The gamemechanics in that game where not that great and forced players to use a mouse when it actually was better with a joystick, but at the time a mouse for a computer was a new and hipp thing ( It sounds odd today I know, and it´s even more weird that we havent developed further in terms of using a computer than with a mouse when this was actually introduced in the 80´s haha. Anyhow. The feel of tactical combat and challenge in that game, the same feel you get here although its easier.
The Last ninja
If you know about this game then you know the scary feel when you got into the catacombs and meet skeletons. Allmost the same feeling that you got back in time when you where sitting in your room and loading up The last ninja for the first time. That feel....aaaah...its here :)
Story:
A nice patriarchal classic story with a princess that has
to be saved with some nice graphical story baked into it.
Barbaric swordplay:
The way Ukhar the barbarian swings his sword in this game really makes you feel like a barbarian for once in a game. First I missed finding a shield but that wouldn´t be very barbaric now would it?`Also when you get a spiked club you do blunt damage and enemies get temporarily confused which really is something the developers thought about when they put into the game. Quite cool :)
And depending on how close the enemies are they can be to close for you to hit them since you can only swing wildly like only a true barbarian can.
Music/ Sound:
Ambient background sound that fits the game, Also each different area in the game has nice details to it with furnitures in a castle area and in the castle corriods you have Golems and pillars.
Bosses:
Personally I love Dark souls except the bossfights since they are quite tidious and boring and more like a puzzle with timing an repetitive boringness, like painting a room all day long white.
Look no further !! The bosses in this game has quite clean patterns are not much of a challenge which is absolutely my cup of coffe and huge carrot for continuing playing the game.
This game is what I wanted the combat in Diablo to be like, that all monsters can be a challenge instead of just hammering the mousebutton tidiously.
Pixelperfect:
Not in the classical sense but in the way that it gives you an autentic feel of playing an AMiGA game and you loose yourself into when vortext that whirls you into the 1980´s again.
Pros/cons
+ Autentic barbarian combat
+ Different weapons, both first and secondary.
+ Dungeon crawling
+ Easy and clean combat mechanics
+ Good balaance between easy puzzling and combat
+ AMiGA styled graphics
+ Xbox360 gamepad
- I really can´t find anything actually, if any it´s that its to cheap for the nice gameplay it offers and that I never even heard of it.
Similar too: Gauntlet ( PC version), Alcazar (C64), Graphical wise: Cadaver (AMiGA)
Better than:
Hammerwach
taking into account that this game costs only a buck, there's more quality here than in several 10 - even 20 bucks games I played. Don't expect a world-shattering experience, but do experience 2-3 hours of a good, retro-inspired top-down rpg.
For me, that alone makes it worth the money.
6/10
I own hundreds of games at this price point and the vast majority of them are utter garbage....this is a rare exception.
If you're looking for a simple hack and slash dungeon crawler to kill a few hours then you can't go wrong with Ukhar. Other than having to restart a couple of areas after my character got stuck on random items in the environment the game ran flawlessly.
The dev obviously but effort into making this game and these are the type of devs we should be supporting.
Cool developement of BoI concept.. except it's unplayable. The most dangerous threat in those dungeons are.. walls themselves! No enemies can compare, for any stone sticking out of the floor can end your run as you touch it - you just stick in place & can't move no more........
Saw this in my recommendations, figured a pick up and play type hack and slash for a buck would be worth a few plays. Finished first playthrough in 2 hours or so, and I'll end up going back for another play at some point soon. For the price, definitely worth it, but it does have some issues.
Pros:
-Easy to pick up and play from a fresh start.
-Artstyle is great and animations are pretty well done.
-Feels like it's just about the right length; Doesn't stretch itself out, or at least it doesn't feel like it does.
-Level designs were great and fitting with how they were setup.
-Just felt fun to play.
Cons:
-Felt too easy. I never really felt like I was in danger at all, and I think I only lost one (maybe two?) health potion.
-Boss fights were a bit basic and way too easy to just smash and pass.
-Not a lot of variety in sub-weapons and upgrading the level resets your ammo.
-Collision/hitboxes. I got stuck to doorways, pots, walls (dunno if that's an analog movement issue or if it's just general) and subweapon sometimes just stopped because I fired too close to a solid object, yet let me shoot through a door facing a certain way.
All said, for the price, I got way more than I thought I would get, and it's definitely worth trying out if you're interested.
Personal Notes:
Just a small thing but it would have been neat to have additional characters or costumes after first clear. Visually specifically, not mechanics wise.
I felt kind of let down by the ending, but I hope that there is more to come in this story. Best of luck moving forward!
Best dollar I have ever spent maybe.. 3 hours/full achievement - Feels like older Zelda dungeons
A little rough around the edges but still worth a dollar. This is an action adventure hack n slash sort of in the vein of gauntlet. This game excels with it's art style and small details. There are a few issues here and there but nothing making the game unplayable.
Pros
+Beautiful pixel art setting up the world very nicely
+18 levels in sets of of 3 that are set up with different enemies and design
+Pretty fluent controls (played with controller)
+Fitting soundtrack
+Small amount of replayability to find hidden weapons and health upgrades
+Median tier difficulty with checkpoints to where most can pick up
Cons
-Clipping can be touchy sometimes
-Hitboxes can be annoying if an enemy gets right on top of you.
I hit a few other bugs which I'll post about in discussion mostly to do with clipping and puzzles. In the end this isn't the shiniest of one dollar gems on steam but this definitely fits the I'll buy that for a dollar statement.

When I buy a game for $1 I expect a lack of quality or some kind of problems. You are probably wondering if there is something wrong with the game. It takes about 2-3 hours to beat the story and I have not encountered any significant issues. In fact, It is a lot better than I expected. This just seems like a solid Zelda style game for $1. Old school action-adventure where you hacking through dungeons and solving puzzles. The game has responsive gameplay, nice animation, good soundtrack (licensed), and even decent settings. I expected a lack of variety in enemies and environments (nope, not the case).
Ukhar has no complex RPG elements but there are some upgrades and different weapons. I actually prefer games where I don't rely too much on numbers. The difficulty is not too easy and not too hard. If you die you can restart from the checkpoint (so it is not a roguelike). You can increase maximum life, find higher quality weapons and use some sub-weapons. The combat mostly consists of 3 different attacks and a dash. I did not mind the mechanics but the boss fights needed to be harder.
Pros:
+ cheap
+ the controls are very responsive
+ the gameplay feels engaging
+ pixel animation is decent
+ several different weapons
+ has decent options
+ fair difficulty and friendly checkpoints
+ enjoyable use of music and sound (even if it licensed)
+ good variety when it comes to enemies and environments
+ 2-4 hours of content (which is good for $1 in my opinion)
Cons:
- not a lot of variety when it comes to puzzles
- the boss fight needs to be harder
- enemies sometimes have pathing problems
- getting caught on objects (like doorways)
- I would like to see maybe few special attacks
Overall Thoughts 7/10
The game is not a masterpiece but for the price, it was very good. I found the level design and the gameplay in general somewhat nostalgic. It was surprisingly intuitive when it comes to things like checkpoints, difficulty, and puzzles. Hope to see a sequel.
