THE STORY
Amid lingering political turmoil, the first and only female empress of China, Wu Zetian rises to power. Within months of her ascension to the throne, murmurs of discontentment and revolution swell as detractors and enemies begin plotting against her. It is against this backdrop that our protagonist, newly appointed investigating magistrate Di Renjie, must solve a gruesome series of murders--which will lead him on a collision course with the Imperial Court and the empress herself.
Will our young detective overcome his own inner demons and his allegiance to the previous emperor? What is the connection between the murder victims and the capital's many political secrets? YOU must uncover the truth...
GAMEPLAY
Playing as the legendary detective, players will explore this unique setting and unravel its narrative twists and turns using familiar adventure gameplay mechanics such as exploration, dialogue choices, interaction with objects and clues, and puzzle-solving. Additionally, we are introducing an original mechanic where you will be able to deduct and reenact the scene of a crime and put your theories to the test.
The pixel art style of the game is also an homage to old school graphics, but we've added our own visual signature and design sensibilities. The game contains over 45 locations (many spanning multiple screen widths), each one pixel-painted with care and attention to detail.

Fun, though occasionally obtuse puzzles. Liked the characters and narrative though.
My only confusion is... why is the game so big (2.5 GB) on disk? There is no voice acting or video... It could easily be 50 MB.
Anyway... still enjoyed it.
Shortish and sweet. Point-and-click adventure, not much detectiving to be done by the player (except one special time). Nice graphics.

then again there seemed to have been news about the sequel in the works a few years ago...
anyhow yeah wish there were more games like this one. puzzles felt like a drag at times but well i'm no genius either so it's cool
I enjoy playing this game so much! At first I was befuddled by the mechanics, but the story and especially the writing was enjoyable and intriguing. I am glad to be able to finish this game.
Got to chapter 2. Understood what to do but the dimensions of the puzzle did not match the instructions making for a lot of brute forcing the puzzle. Frustrating to say the least

A classic adventure mystery game set in the world of Detective Di. A kind of Chinese Sherlock Holmes subject of some early 20th century English stories and recent subject of several movies and TV shows in the 21st century.
With it's nostalgic graphics and classic gameplay this game is like a story you play for yourself.
What a way to be first welcomed into the game by opening up with one of the most beautiful main themes I've ever heard in gaming. I was literally just sitting there in awe, listening to the music for minutes... Graphics are pretty, minimalist, and clean -- it doesn't bombard the screen with more assets than needed. The art style here definitely shines through with the charm of an ancient China setting that was nicely captured. The entire investigation structure was really well done with the "deduction board" layout and the case reenactment sequences, especially the latter giving you the biggest sense of accomplishment after solving a case.
Puzzles were enjoyable, though there were times I got stuck on certain areas due to missing additional items/clues. These additional items are oftentimes extremely missable, especially when they're too close to another interactable item. In which here I'd suggest to implement a very subtle "sparkle" effect for vital interactable items/clues, or even a "Hint" button (like what some other point-and-click games do).
Dialogue texts were very well written, and that on its own just oozes personality with every character you encounter without the need of any voice acting (which is very hard to pull off, so that says a lot about this game's writing). The way the clues and pieces came together to unveil the bigger picture of the plot has got to be one of the most fulfilling and satisfying stories I've personally experienced in a detective game. I hope the sequel is still in the works; this is too good a potential to not have a full series!
