Space Chip Free!
Space Chip will be free pretty soon!
About the Game
Space Chip is a fun game set in Space with a nostalgic playmode which you have to pass through different levels full of adventure, teleporting through space gates and avoiding energy balls, spaceships, meteorites and “alienoids”.Inspired by games in the late eighties and early nineties keeping that special spirit and movements in 2D but with scenarios in 3D.
You will find a different look with graphics created to make an atmosphere which is a throwback to the time where you will have fun.
You will have to overcome four zones with addictive levels where the most important thing is the gameplay. The progress will be saved when you overcome the zone not the levels.
Full game created with Blender Game Engine.
Space Chip, play it!

I wouldn’t recommend this game. If you’re looking for something simple to burn money, and time on I suggest the copious amounts of other cheap games on steam that are substantially more polished and are designed to waste time. This game doesn’t have much to offer. It tries to stand out by being like doodle jump except if you didn't have full control of the character and the game was infinitely more complicated by the poor design of the developers. Sometimes you’ll be playing the game and it just crashes. My friend has a frequent crash whenever he goes to a certain part of the level. The developer responded to my original shorter review where I brought this up by saying it’s intentional- which is questionable design. The game’s sluggish controls, in combination with not being able to see the poorly placed platforms above you don’t help. I’m fine with difficulty but these all seem like taking the pis$ to try and supplement some difficulty or depth as far as the gameplay goes, but it just doesn’t work.
In its current state, it doesn’t have a lot and it doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to move forward from its current state. I agree with one of the other reviews here that stated that this is the kind of stuff that should be separated from legitimate projects.
Also, the developer had a great dig at my VAC ban. If only I could get VAC banned from Space Chip…
I usually play multiplayer games because the indie singleplayer games are not catchy for me unless the videogames would be very good. Retro singleplayer games have simple dynamics but they are catchy. That is the point with Space Chip.
While I appreciate any indie project, big or small, we do need to separate 'first attempts at making a game' from 'legit projects that are trying to move things forward'. And yes, I understand there is a spectrum between the two. Also, as many of you know, I want to pay for games as opposed to devs just making them free BUT in the case of 'this is my first attempt at making a game' - I sort of cringe at having to pay for it. Hope that makes sense.
The problem with Space Chip is that it is just really bare bones and on top of that - it is fundamentally broken. It's like the creator followed a tutorial to make a rudimentary maze with basic hitboxes and such. Okay, great, but it's not 'fun'. What we have here plays more like an excercise in fundamental game making. I mean this in the most constructive way possible. If the dev takes this and refines it, and then refines it some more, we may eventually get to the point where something interesting starts to take shape. We just aren't anywhere close yet, unfortunately.
Cons:
-Walls pop in and out of existance
-The controls are in need of a major overhaul; everything is too floaty and there is a weird pull sometimes that doesn't make sense
-The whole thing needs to bake a lot longer before showing and selling this
-It is not fun; playing this reminds me of when I would follow the most basic game maker tutorial and end up with a small broken maze game
-The font is all stretched and feels like a placeholder
-That weird choice of two portals at the end of the level where one simply makes you redo the level, and the other advances - it's just too random
Look, I'm not going to refund or anything because I really do want to support indie devs and their projects. But devs also have to take care to not put out first projects and things that are just too broken for public consumption. Best of luck with this and future projects. I sincerely hope it's a stepping stone to some truly great games.
