"Run and Jump" is a 3D platformer and shouldn't be confused with "Mr Run and Jump", which is a trademark owned by Atari for their own platformer. Which this is not. It's a minimalist procgen platformer where you just run through the randomly generated course, jumping over blocks and trying not to fall into the gaps. It's not an asset flip, in fact the developer properly credited the creators of the skybox assets and the audio tracks, so kudos for doing the right thing (most amateur developers prefer to plagiarise and not credit asset creators, asset flipping is bad).
Unfortunately genuine intentions alone don't translate into an excellent gaming experience, which Run and Jump does not provide.
The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The game features lazy minimalist/untextured low-polygon "retro" assets and visuals, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. The lack of textures is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It looks bad as a result of their decisions, and that's just another reason to avoid it.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game, to avoid doing the important job of level/map design. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 6 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
"Run and Jump" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
best money i've ever spent 10/10 please remaster the game
It's fun, but pretty hard
10/10 didn't expect that twist in the end :O
thanks to freddy fazbear gamings comment i have figured out what this game is about
Seems kind of odd to have the checkpoint mode not count for progress when the level procedurally spawns in front of you, and you can't map out what you route you want/mistakes to avoid, but the levels are so fun and unique I don't really care that I didn't technically 'beat' them. Level 3 is kind of hot garbage, half the time you will slide off the platforms or get stuck in really odd ways and I just don't like the tilting, but Level 4 is such a masterpiece it's worth the price alone. Overall I'd say get it if you like 3d platforming.
you would not believe what this game is about

I would reccomend it if you are a windows user but im on a mac right now and it is very unoptimized and takes a while to load when you click a button. please fix and for now im getting refunded.
It is fun to play on the side of YouTube. You can easily run this during other games as well. It is easy to listen and play (like Comedy Night). The game is addictive and semi-hard.
This game seems normal at first but its hella tough to beat.. Awesome game for a cheap price!
Best 40 cent i've ever spent.
this game is so good. thhe graphics are stunning, and for a dollar? its a must get.
pros: a platformer
cons:
on the upslopes it seems sometimes you can slip between the blocks where there isnt a gap e.g. ~30% on level 1
level 2 has a similar problem but is mostly fine
level 3 was fine
level 4: hard to work out where the surfaces started/ended at the start
overall needs a lot of polishing for it to be worth spending any money on.
NICE Game, its hard to play but it fun to play too with music :)
Good game for a good price. Mash buttons, hope you land on a block, retry a billion times. Pleasantly surprised by how inventive the levels get.
Damnn really nice game it made me feel like im in space
fun game for the price, i wish it was a little more AESTHETIC tho
