Been here since the DS, still staying strong. Always found it ironic how I don't like "press A to progress / visual novel" games but then love this series. Anything this game does keeps me hooked. Each episode having exciting stories, the music that serves to hype you up every time you enter the courtroom, characters being able to express their personality through one line of text? Now that's just unbelievable.
Worth the full price.
I now understand why it’s a classic. Many great characters (Godot was amazing) & memorable moments. There are often some clever plot twists with layered writing that peels back as cases progress. Sometimes things are a bit contrived, but overall it’s a good time.
HOWEVER.
stop with the over-reliance on spirit medium characters and summonings. There are many cases that are normal and it’s not driving the plot. But I’m not a fan of the ones that center around Maya’s family plot lines. Just give Phoenix an intuition instead of the green teardrop power. In particular, the last case really was quite silly at the level of suspension of disbelief required for the reveals to make sense.
this game is actually peak fiction. not a single regret in sight
definitely worth the money, especially when on sale
This is a must-play for anyone interested in pursuing any law-adjacent career. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a perfect playground for learning the intricacies of the legal field (broadly) and the responsibilities of an attorney (in particular). Those unfamiliar with the law will have a hard time navigating the situations presented, but don't take it as a discouragement: you should still play this game, regardless. While PW: AAT is quite unforgiving to the legally illiterate, it is, bar none, the best vessel for diving deep into jurisprudence; the game is incredibly dense and informative, and, most importantly, fun. There's a reason this is a certified classic.
WARNING: if you are planning on passing Bar, pay close attention when playing. A lot of the questions were based on the material inside this game.
After 53 hours of play, I've finally brought this game to a closure. I have played this back when it was first released on the DS but I didn't get to finish it. If you like crime & courtroom drama, this is the game to get.
Unfortunately, there really isn't much to say when it comes to these games. I have been playing this trilogy since they had released on the DS. These are adventure games are lives off of how you enjoy the writing and puzzling solving. For me, the first game stumbles with the first two cases and the second game has a case I still cannot get behind. But, overall, this is one of the best trilogies I have ever played. It's very hard for me to truly give a proper review as I find these games to be absolutely enthralling. The music, visuals, writing; everything in these games work together to make the perfect package.
To put simply, if you like puzzles and adventure games, this trilogy is an absolute no-brainer to pick it. It's a classic and there is a reason it maintains a strong fanbase to date. You cannot go wrong picking this assortment of games up!
Honestly one of the best games I have played, very interesting characters and stories, very cool art style, love it!
I am still waiting for that step ladder to be an important piece of evidence.
Don't let me down Capcom
10/10 Game
i love the soundtrack, visuals and the characters especially! i just love this game in general tbh
would totally recommend:))
A fun court room game. Gather the evidence present it and object and press at the right times in court. Pretty straight forward with good writing and good characters.
Fun, engaging and immersive role-playing game of defending a variety of cases!
There is no other game quite like this and every case i've played so far has been interesting and entertaining. Truly great game
Finally played this well-loved game that I've been hearing so much about for so many years, and I cannot say I liked the experience. If you liked Danganronpa you would probably like this as well, I didn't enjoy Danganronpa so I barely stomached through this game.
While I prefer a more grounded and realistic experience, I also get that this is a videogame "court room adventure"; and fictional works usually require some artistic license, and suspension of disbelief from consumer's part. However, this game outright requires a "dispelling of disbelief" and total disregard of reality to play. Are you really trying to convince me that Japanese police are so incompetent that they would miss all the important pieces of evidence? That no proper crime scene investigation is done at all? That I have to point out in court that a fingerprint examination is warranted for the bottle of sleeping pill found on the scene that the police missed during their investigation? Also, the attorney can just illegally enter places and search for evidences that should not be admitted into court and somehow the court just believe what he says?? "OH I found this spying device in her room, trust me bro" and the court just goes "I believe you" like wtf? And EVERY SINGLE witness is committing perjury and contempt of court and there is absolute no consequence whatsoever??? That a prodigy public prosecutor believes every criminal defendant is automatically guilty; and would falsify evidence and instigate witnesses to commit perjury???????
I have to turn off 99.9% of my brain so I can stomach through all these ridiculous and jarring things the game throws at you and leave just enough brainpower to click through all the dialogue options and interactables.
And speaking of clicking through things, why is the outdated UI not changed for this "HD remaster" at all? I get that the original game was old and designed for console but why is the remaster not changing the terrible UI at all? Who considers "entering the wood cabin of Studio 2" "leaving this place"?? Why am I clicking through so many menus just to exit from Studio 2 wood cabin to the front gate???
The game is also often a slog to playthrough. The game isn't played based on logic, instead, most of the time you are just trying to read the dev team's mind. You have to trigger event in a fixed linear sequence, the exact condition of event triggering or what the game considers "time passed" is just an exhaustive search/investigation of scene that requires unreasonable backtracking, i.e. without the prior knowledge that "something is about to go down there" or "something will be triggered if I go there" then there is no reason to revisit and exhaustively investigate a scene. So you end up just backtrack every scene through the outdated UI and click on everything interactable and then skip the dialogues you've already seen so you could haphazardly trigger the new event.
Court room scene is also annoying to play, obvious contradiction could have no dialogue option for you to present evidence or objection simply for the sake of anime style dramatic twist, and it plays like an insult to the player's intelligence in a game that is supposedly mentally stimulating. Also some testimony scene is worded like you could present some evidence to prove contradiction but instead is designed to have you exhaust the "press" option, look incompetent and cornered, then the scripted twist comes. You also have to be able to read the dev's mind on the exact order what evidence to present to a super obvious contradiction, and by then it's not about what happens in game but a meta game of "based on previously how this kind of scenes played out, I think the devs probably want me to present this piece".
I don't know why the police wouldn't just have a bunch of grown and able psychics help them solve the cases by summon the spirits of the murdered, surely not every victim was unconscious and doesn't know who actually killed them.
If you are someone who's accustomed to the style of ridiculousness I think often found in Japanese visual novel and games and animes, and have the ability to totally disregard the jarring incongruities between this game and real life, then I think this game can be a cool mental exercise for you with not-so-capturing twists and stories. I, however, have a strong natural distaste for deliberate incompetency and find no enjoyment in the forced ridiculousness.
"A perfect game to play late at night with a meal, where you enjoy solving an intriguing case. The atmosphere helps you relax and focus on every detail of the investigation."
Cool games that vary too much in quality. At its best, you have very well-designed mysteries with charming characters and funny dynamics, yet it can slow down for surprisingly sentimental moments. At worst, you'll have to spend the next few hours with nonsense logic and completely unlikable characters. I recommend this collection, but the quality being all over the place prevents it from being a "strong recommendation". The games can absolutely fire on all cylinders, but sometimes, there is too much time waiting for those peaks.
stellar. fantastic. amazing. masterful storytelling. one of the few games to feature miles edgeworth, therefore everyone should own a copy of it. and that phoenix guy is there too i guess
I really wanted to like this game because the concept is fantastic but I found it incredibly frustrating to play and found that I wasn't having fun pretending to be a kick-ass lawyer like I envisioned.
The game is incredibly linear and rigid, you HAVE to present evidence at the CORRECT time and in the correct order. I found this incredibly frustrating because there were plenty of places where I felt it was appropriate to present evidence and the game would punish me for it, only for the very next set of dialogue to be the 'proper' place to present it. I found myself stressing and losing progress after being a decent chunk of time into a trial because I started second guessing myself about presenting evidence too soon vs. missing the opportunity to present it at all.
For me, that level of frustration did not match the reward when the story was successful and could continue. Maybe if it got more rail-roady further into the story once I was more invested in all the characters it would have been more tolerable.
TL;DR it's fun and worth it on sale if you're looking for some legal drama and goofy characters.
I think the expectations for this game is important for your enjoyment of it. This is not Columbo or Knives out where you can find the clues to the truth and figure out the twists and turns potentially from the first 10 minutes.
This is BBC's Sherlock Holmes, where you are Dr. Watson and your big tiddy ghost GF is Sherlock, getting Deus Ex Machina'd in basically every case with information and options that you had no way to find or present yourself.
This is not a logic and reasoning based lawyer RPG where choices matter and reality has any bearing. This is a goofy, insane and interactive legal drama with some logic and reasoning puzzles.
I still find myself struggeling to come to those terms, mainly being frustrated at the writing, blatant lies, hypocrisy, double standards, rigged system and impossible demands to not only clear your client but also find the real killer that requires at least 1 Deus Ex Machina per trial, sometimes multiple.
But despite my issues, I'm still playing and it's got me hooked. I want to see what comes next and what insane BS they will pull out of their asses next. So yeah, absolutely worth it on sale.
Recommend playing it in one sitting.
A very well told story that didn't get boring for a second.
Fun story, awesome soundtrack, recommend. Stay away if you hate reading, 90% of gameplay is through text.
Good game. Great for when you want to force your relatives to voice act a game with you
super fun. bought it on sale and the value is very good. I wasn't sure if I was gonna like it because its a visual novel, but its very compelling and fun to play for the most part.
Look i love the games but i feel the compilation is missing things. On my phone i had things i could buy, a gallery would be nice, selecting exact parts of cases you want to play, and for god the love of all that is modern a audio slider that is more than 5 options in game.
great collection for those who haven't played before. for those who have, the new animations are nicish.
i just loved this game so much! incredible storytelling and characters. 10/10
The legendary trilogy that started it all. Sometimes it probably gets “glazed” a little too much by the fandom (me included), but there’s a reason this trilogy spawned so many sequels, spin-offs, and even crossovers.
The idea of controlling a lawyer—especially one navigating a parody of the Japanese legal system—might not sound exciting to most people. But thanks to quirky humor, memorable characters, and simplifying things just enough for the average gamer to figure stuff out, the Phoenix Wright trilogy delivers a very memorable experience.
While the characters are quirky (and stay that way throughout the series), the story knows when to get serious. Those emotional moments hit harder because almost every case is a murder mystery. No matter how goofy things get, you're still working to bring a criminal to justice—though it’s almost never the person initially arrested.
In hindsight, some plot twists do get a little too over-the-top. Sure, the existence of magic is established early on (your main assistant is a spirit medium), but even that doesn’t excuse how some mysteries hinge on absurdly convenient plot points.
As for Phoenix himself, I think he’s okay as a protagonist but a bit overrated. He’s the classic snarky everyman, which somehow makes him a fan favorite. But let’s be real—there are countless moments where he just gets lucky with evidence or calls out nonsense by sheer chance, and suddenly he’s seen as this god-tier lawyer. It also doesn’t help that most characters don’t take him seriously, and he just rolls with it, making sarcastic comments internally. A sarcastic lead isn’t automatically a great character, and Phoenix feels more plain than fans might admit.
Thankfully, most of the recurring side characters are memorable, likable, or contribute something interesting to the plot. The one exception for me is Franziska. She’s both super annoying and never taken seriously, with her role in the story ending up the least compelling of all the major recurring prosecutors.
Despite its flaws, the Phoenix Wright trilogy is one of my favorite game trilogies for good reason. It strikes a great balance between gameplay and story, blending murder investigations, interviews, and presenting evidence at just the right time in court. The emotional moments stick with you, and the gameplay integration feels surprisingly natural and fun.
P.S. This series is NOT a visual novel. There’s a reason so many gamers love it but wouldn’t touch real visual novels, which are actually 100% text.
You will never know how much the soundtrack can influence the tide of a game until you play this. Phenomenal characters with very eccentric reactions make this game what it is
Goated game. Offers a lot of Twists that you wouldn't expect, requires you to think outside of the box and overall is a game that'll always keep you hooked. The only negative aspect is some bullshit steps you have to do during the investigation phase that aren't obvious. But yeah, the 60 hours I put were worth it.
This such an awesome game!
This mystery-filled game mixed with the awesome sensation when your brain just clicks and everything fits in place is absolutely one of the best games I've played.
Beating every level from the start always felt great and the tutorial throws you in the game in a great way to show you what you're getting in to.
Love the characters too and the music
If you're wondering whether to buy the game or not, you should try it 100%. It's very worth and exciting. (On sale this game goes to around £8 so maybe wait until then to buy it)
Very enjoyable. If the beeping of the text is annoying you then pressing Backspace to advance the text makes it appear immediately. Doesn't work in every situation.
I love some of the plot-twists, its not rushed and sometimes i do struggle. The struggle is what makes it fun, i like the way people connect back to a previous person.
when i first played this i was midway into 'rise from the ashes' (last case from the first game) but then due to a technical issue - that was mostly caused by my own stupidity - lost my game progress and had to start over again. i thought it was going to be a pain but i actually had a blast going through all the cases again. by now i have finished, and i probably will play through the entire trilogy again. maybe another time after that. who knows. if you, too, want to wreck your brain trying to figure out a case only to end up looking up the solution on the internet and then still feel amazing for bullshitting your way through it all, definitely play this game. i promise it's fun.
This game is incredible.
The music is ambient and catchy and attention-grabbing and fun and everything I need in a game soundtrack.
This game runs extremely well on my potato computer.
This game has a cast of quirky characters that I have grown attached to over its story.
This game has SO MUCH lore that you wouldn't be able to know if you got here from a meme about it
This game... there is no Objection... Hold It and keep it. You want to know if you should get the game? Well TAKE THAT! *throws the cartridge at you*
are you convinced yet? You should be! WELLL worth the money
For those games of detective, gathering items as proof, reading and paying attetion to details during the judgement, this games are perfect, specially for a simple story for each chapter
I didn't play this game as a child so have no nostalgia for it, I'm also not into courtroom dramas so was never interested in this game and didn't think it would be for me, but something made me try it and I'm so glad I did.
The game (well, trilogy) was surprisingly funny and full of colourful characters, the stories and investigations were interesting, and I didn't even mind doing the trials.
This version also has a chapter select which made navigating around the episodes fairly easy (I only needed this once or twice, but it's a nice feature)
Overall would highly recommend this trilogy. I certainly had a lot of fun with it!
it's nice. but i wish the art style wasnt so... smooth. i prefer the trilogy on the Wii. it let's you swing the wii remote to present evidence :)
3 great classic games in one nice package! You all know what this is, great animations, visuals, writing and music. The Characters are great and the courtroom battles are just a blast to play through. This is a great port of these original Ace Attorney games. Not much else to say, these older titles that are still more than worth the price!
The story of this game is impeccable, the soundtrack is an absolute banger, and the characters are very lovable or funny. I would very much recommend this game.
Changes your brain chemistry. One of the best games I've ever played. I replay it at least once a year just because it's so great. Personally, for me, it's the characters and their interactions with each other that are the best parts of the game. Of course, the mechanics of trials are also fantastic.
Must play for any visual novel enjoyer!!! Yes there are a few dud cases (namely 2-3) that is an absolute pain to get through and contributes nothing to the overall plot, but there are just so many highs. There are so many stellar cases: 1-4, 1-5, 2-4, 3-5 and uncovering the truth behind each case is always so fun and rewarding.
ig it was alright
(i could spend hours talking about every single detail that made this game as impacting, funny, and engaging as it was. i loved every second of it and the gameplay and dynamic of the game kept me fully interested at all times. unfortunately for me half the time this meant i was incredibly dumb and the other half i was dumbfounded. not my usual style of game but had the most fun possibly ever. could not recommend enough 10/10)
It's a great way to experience the first three games! With text-rollout skipping, it straight up plays faster than the GB/DS originals. As long as you don't have a problem with how the redrawn sprites look, there's not a better package to start with.
había olvidado lo absolutamente increíble y emocionante que puede llegar a ser la vida del abogado japonés!! qué envidia que deben tener los de acá, cuando ganan un juicio nadie tira confeti y el acusado no se arranca la peluca :(
The Dahlia arc is the best case in Ace Attorney to be honest, a bunch of twist and turns lololol. Too bad they never brought Iris back again.
This game is an awesome blend of animated action, without any violence needing to be involved. It involved verbal slaps to the face, intrigue and shadows so deep only a visor could be visible, and turnabouts galore. Plus, one guy loves coffee, so he gets a free pass on my end.
Frankly, by the end, I was sad I had to say goodbye to this amazing cast of characters and this lovely and endearing story. If you haven't played this game yet, and you like detective games that have an amazing narrative edge to them, and you enjoy whodunnits and love theorizing, you'll find you can cut your teeth on these games, and enjoy them a lot.
One thing I want to press upon is that the music is something that caught me by surprise. It's suspenseful, well-times, understated, but so, so good. Not in an orchestra bombastic kind of good, but the kind of good that only comes from realizing you have been listening to it all along, that it carried your mood, and built up amazing amounts of suspense.
Hats off to the makers of these games, for the lovely and silly stories they wrote, for building characters that undergo difficult but good development arcs, and for simply making these games. I enjoyed them, and I hope you'll enjoy them too.
This is a very fun intro into investigation/deduction style games. There is a ton of reading, and you may need to take time to pay attention to small details that will come up later in a case. You'll have a really good time playing this generally family-friendly game, especially if you love reading murder mysteries and trying to solve the cases as they progress. There are lots of fun characters, and it can also be fun to try and figure out why they are named a certain way, since it's usually a pun. I definitely recommend for a good detective-binge.
I'm a lawyer with as much experience as a toddler and they expect me to solve murder cases...?
10/10 would be stuck at the tutorial for 8.8 hours again
Great story, but very flawed.
Certain trial segments require losing and/or getting in the mindset of forging a false scenario with the evidence presented.
Investigations occasionally require you to travel to rooms you already visited to find new people or evidence you couldn't possibly know were there.
Why the hell did Phoenix gloat to his enemies and lose evidence not once but THREE whole times in the first game?!
very fun !! very clever and funny writing with compelling characters :D
Ace Attorney is quite a unique game, as its standpoint could not really count as a game. you could watch this just like any other season of suits and successions or any show about law firms and murder conspiracies (or just the boring ones). With that said, its still quite impressive how the developers managed to develop such a deep connection between the player and the game despite it barely being a game.
Ace Attorney revels more in its impressive and quite diegetic writing with an emphasis on differing character traits (which i adore with its more comedic dialogues) rather than its arbitrary and downright telltale-esque "choose-your-own-adventure" book style of exploration/court demonstration. Not to say the "gameplay" was bad, but i had a few times where i had to look up a playthrough on youtube because 1) i didnt do the set correct amount of activities to unlock the set path it wants me to go onto 2) parts of testimonies were pretty much unmatched to a point. Most of my successful objections were really just far-away guesses, the game really does make you think a lot and i think thats one of the strengths. It truly makes you feel like a lawyer, well somewhat.
i haven't quite completed it yet, but im interested in the direction the series goes after the first game.
