One of the best games ever made, great characters, great sense of humour and exciting cases!
This is a great game for lawyers with all of the familiar courtroom shenanigans that you're used to on the job! Including but not limited to:
- Discovery? What's that? Simply introduce new evidence in the middle of witness testimony, who cares?
- Actually, the police are not allowed to inform defense council on any facts of the case. That's right. You hear it for the first time when the trial is argued, like real life.
- Burden of proof? All suspects are guilty until proven innocent. By this, I mean you must accuse another person and prove them guilty without a shadow of a doubt in order to render your client not guilty.
- Every trial is to be finished within 3 days. If the case is isn't finished in 3 days, well then I guess your client's guilty.
- Judges, as expected, have no idea what fingerprints or DNA evidence are.
- Only the prosecution can call witnesses. The defense will just have to do what they can with only the witnesses the prosecutor calls.
- Spirit mediums are real and have credence in common law. However, dead people are only asked who killed them one time, and not on any case you may argue.
- The prosecutor may bring a bullwhip to court and may whip the defense council, the witnesses and the judge without any repercussions. I'm sure you have your own scats from your own time in court.
10/10 games. Very realistic.
Honestly this was the best visual novel I have ever played. Nothing beats Ace Attorney. The characters are so well written, the cases are so mind boggling, and the endings sometimes make you feel like you want to cry because of how good it is. This was such a good purchase like I don't regret paying for this game. Like WHAT?!? The plot twists will literally make your jaw drop 10 times straight. I played this with my older sister and this game made both of us want to keep playing the game on and on. I may have been a little late to the game (Haha little I was like 20 years late or something) but I would definetly replay this game when I feel bored. Thank you Capcom for this masterpiece.
Phoenix and Edgeworth didn't make out but aside from that it's a great game
I love this series because it's both fun and engaging. It has the unique ability to both make you not take it seriously and also keep you hooked in the gameplay and story. Each chapter of each game is very rewarding and every progression is immensely satisfying. Would recommend to anyone!
Just finished the game, and BY GOD IT IS AMAZING. ONE OF THE BEST STORIES, WITH SOME OF THE MOST UNIQUE CHARACTERS AND GAMEPLAY EVER. THIS GAME IS SUCH A GEM. I HAD SUCH A BLAST PLAYING THIS MASTERPIECE AND I URGE ANYONE INTERESTED TO GIVE IT A SHOT, IT'S WORTH IT. ABSOLUTE CINEMA
Incredible trilogy, everything story related is absolutely top notch.
Trials and Tribulations, specially, is hands down one of the greatest games of all time.
OST is good throughout the series, but I definitely prefered the first game on that matter.
The right mix of interactive and visual novel so that the story exposition hooks you but you aren't just reading a book that cost 10 bucks. Also, the music is amazing!
Best story, best trilogy of games. Shu Takumi is the GOAT and it shows through his love writing these games. I love the continuity between cases, the overarching plot, even how it doesn't neglect (most of) it's characters! The first case of each game acts like a tutorial. Even so, you will see the character(s) later. I really never expected the defendant of the second game to come back in the third! I don't know if it was intentional, but the way the trilogy ends makes me think that it was planned from the start because of how well it was constructed, beginning to end.
MAJOR spoilers based on what I mean:
Godot can't see red against white, right? First off, the guy that killed Mia was Redd White, so there's one. Second, blood is red (obviously), but also snow is white. While I'm not familiar with spirit channelling, the whole idea with needing the cold to train - "I need a waterfall to stand under! Preferably a freezing one!" "... Oh... Is that part of your spirit medium training?" "Of course!" (back in Turnabout Goodbyes) - makes it so much cooler that the trilogy ends in the freezing, and snowy cold heights at Hazakura Temple. Speaking of heights, what would you need to cross two very high up areas over a large pit? A bridge, of course. One where a certain person could hypothetically jump into the river below off of. Or one where a certain protagonist crosses it, shaking their fear of heights, to save their frequently-convicted assistant.
There are so many of these connections, it's worth reflecting after you've finished.
In each game, the last case is always the best one in my opinion, and I don't see many arguments saying otherwise. 1-5 is a bit different because it was added to the ds version after the trilogy had been completed, so I don't count it as the last case of the 1st game. I do have a few petty critiques, but they are so minor that I shouldn't have even suggested they exist.
Enjoy this peak game. No wonder it's the best reviewed Cult Classic on Steam (below Papa's Freezeria Deluxe, naturally), ranking 83rd highest rated throughout all games on Steam and the 36th best story rich games.
(btw, I have only played for 45.6hrs because I began watching this game on YouTube until halfway 2-3 before I remembered that I could just buy this game)
this has been such a funny game to play. i love the characters in this game and how they interact with each other. there are some moments where the logical leaps are confusing, but i like the over all flow of the game. this is totally something that i would recommend for others to play.
really silly game !! a classic! its made me laugh a lot and i love the characters they are so goofy and sweet!
this is a very popular game for a reason! if you like any kind of detective games, or games that make you think, you should consider ace attorney!! of course!!
also i love lana and ema lol they remind me of me and my sister :,)
Love this game! It has a lot of interesting cases, some with such great stories and plots that make discovering them truly enjoyable. It’s a perfect choice for anyone who likes detective games. The mechanics are simple but well used, giving you satisfaction when refuting the prosecutors (partly because of their personalities too). The mystery and story also keep you engaged. You can also see how the developers have gained experience in writing new cases throughout the series. I highly recommend everyone give it a try!
I wasn't really big into visual novels, but Ace Attorney? This one got me hooked as early as the second case, but this trilogy really shines in its final cases, especially the ones from T&T which is my favorite one of the three, followed by PW:AA and unfortunately weakest (but still good!) JFA. I love everything in these games, the music, the characters, the vibes, it's all there. One of the best collections ive ever played I gotta say.
8.5/10 Overall
the perfect entry for the series and the genre
the cases get progressively more difficult and rewarding to predict. with the iconic detective vn characters, you'll experience all kinds of emotions throughout your journey and beat the game with no cliffhangers, but enough love to be curious about the Ace Attorney universe
While I did have a lot of fun trying to solve the mysteries introduced upon trying to prove the innocence of my clients...
I think structurally the first game was the best. There were a lot of different cases, and while different, slowly taught us about how the game worked and served as a narrative tool to a certain persecutor's character arc, culminating into the best case of the entire trilogy. And the extra case after the pen-ultimate finale wasn't too bad either, if not just a tad bit too long when thinking back on it. Still, I remember leaving that game plenty satisfied.
What about the other two games of the trilogy? Well...
The third game I like a whole lot more than the second game. It borrows what the player has learned of the characters in the first game, and picks up lost threads that were dropped after the first few cases of the first two games, for a very entertaining finale. What I love is that it doesn't just suddenly drop the last case without any ties to the other cases. There is a looming little character that pops up again and again, getting you to feel really uneasy for when their return is hinted at. The only case that's kind of separate from everything going on, is the third case, which was originally written to appear after the infamous Circus case of the 2nd game.
Before playing the third game, I really felt like it would be better to just play the first one only. The second game was a victim of a really short production period, and it really really shows (example. the Circus case). While with a solid tutorial and a solid true first case, they just feel cut off from the rest of the narrative. The final case is really good and funny, but any kind of character arc resolution feels kind of underwhelming, because of the aforementioned lack of time, and the fact the writer was intoxicated for some part of the process. Listen, I love their writing, especially in Ghost Trick, but please, no more " My teenage angel" characters.
This was my first introduction to the Ace Attorney games and I really enjoyed it. The characters are memorable and interesting, there's some good humour and the cases are really well thought out and designed. I like how each game in the series has slightly different mechanics and mini-games, whether you're dusting for fingerprints or breaking er psyche-locks there's good variety and interest throughout.
Having finished this I immediately purchased another Ace Attorney game, which says it all really.
This game literally drags you in kicking and screaming. When I first played i thought it was kinda boring, but here we are, 4 years into my obsession and and still thinking about those gay lawyers in suits.
This game made me feel like an idiot and like a genius simultaneously and I loved every chaotic minute of it
One of the best stories I've ever experienced in a video game. Ofc, the game's age shows in its lack of quality of life options that become present in later games, and sometimes frustrating mechanics (*ahem ahem Rise From The Ashes ahem ahem*) but the story is absolutely worth it. Even the worst cases are just mid and not actually bad, with the best cases being GOAT status experiences.
The challenges can also be very fun in court. The game gets increasingly creative in their testimonies, and the contradictions are super fun to find, especially starting from Trials and Tribulations.
Overall, great game, but its age shows sometimes.
Everything about this game is amazing, but the stories are what really stand out. It's so very well written, I felt like I could predict what might have happened in each case, but there was always some small detail that completely changed my original theory. The cases are so absurd that it is impossible not to get attached to them.
This is one of the best games of all time. If you like visual novels and a detective story or just plain good storytelling and characters, buy it. Please do. And if you don't, still buy it. The game will make you fall in love with it.
Fun, and intriguing mysteries, absolutely worth playing if you like solving crimes and court room debate. Only wish they added some quality of life features like a fast way to skip dialogue or travel between locations (without having to move to a third location when it doesn't make sense).
Only finished the first title so far but really enjoyed it. Full of fun twists and ahha moments.
This game truly holds a place in my heart even after barely playing it in my youth.
Having just fully completed it and dealing with the most insane evidence connecting I had ever seen, I can safely say it kept my second guessing everything until the end for some of the most heartfelt conclusions.
I only hope to continue this feeling heading into the next trilogy and into the future of the Ace Attorney franchise.
My childhood game. I still remembered when I heard this game from my friends I'm kinda refuse to try it because it sounds like a lawyer mystery game. After I tried and have nothing but fun. The story is amazing & dialogue is hilarious, and almost all the chapter has unexpected ends. Of course, some illogical evidence present/press might be tricky but that just one flaw from many amazing. Highly recommend to everyone.
Great story, great soundtrack (the phone's ringtone was awesome), good gameplay
Good story and game play, if you like the trial style of games, you will like this.
One of my most beloved franchise I've played on the DS. There's some hiccup here and then with some of its cases and characters but ultimately a damn good game and hella fun to replay again after so many years
Been here since the DS, still staying strong. Always found it ironic how I don't like "press A to progress / visual novel" games but then love this series. Anything this game does keeps me hooked. Each episode having exciting stories, the music that serves to hype you up every time you enter the courtroom, characters being able to express their personality through one line of text? Now that's just unbelievable.
Worth the full price.
I now understand why it’s a classic. Many great characters (Godot was amazing) & memorable moments. There are often some clever plot twists with layered writing that peels back as cases progress. Sometimes things are a bit contrived, but overall it’s a good time.
HOWEVER.
stop with the over-reliance on spirit medium characters and summonings. There are many cases that are normal and it’s not driving the plot. But I’m not a fan of the ones that center around Maya’s family plot lines. Just give Phoenix an intuition instead of the green teardrop power. In particular, the last case really was quite silly at the level of suspension of disbelief required for the reveals to make sense.
this game is actually peak fiction. not a single regret in sight
definitely worth the money, especially when on sale
This is a must-play for anyone interested in pursuing any law-adjacent career. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a perfect playground for learning the intricacies of the legal field (broadly) and the responsibilities of an attorney (in particular). Those unfamiliar with the law will have a hard time navigating the situations presented, but don't take it as a discouragement: you should still play this game, regardless. While PW: AAT is quite unforgiving to the legally illiterate, it is, bar none, the best vessel for diving deep into jurisprudence; the game is incredibly dense and informative, and, most importantly, fun. There's a reason this is a certified classic.
WARNING: if you are planning on passing Bar, pay close attention when playing. A lot of the questions were based on the material inside this game.
After 53 hours of play, I've finally brought this game to a closure. I have played this back when it was first released on the DS but I didn't get to finish it. If you like crime & courtroom drama, this is the game to get.
Unfortunately, there really isn't much to say when it comes to these games. I have been playing this trilogy since they had released on the DS. These are adventure games are lives off of how you enjoy the writing and puzzling solving. For me, the first game stumbles with the first two cases and the second game has a case I still cannot get behind. But, overall, this is one of the best trilogies I have ever played. It's very hard for me to truly give a proper review as I find these games to be absolutely enthralling. The music, visuals, writing; everything in these games work together to make the perfect package.
To put simply, if you like puzzles and adventure games, this trilogy is an absolute no-brainer to pick it. It's a classic and there is a reason it maintains a strong fanbase to date. You cannot go wrong picking this assortment of games up!
Honestly one of the best games I have played, very interesting characters and stories, very cool art style, love it!
I am still waiting for that step ladder to be an important piece of evidence.
Don't let me down Capcom
10/10 Game
i love the soundtrack, visuals and the characters especially! i just love this game in general tbh
would totally recommend:))
A fun court room game. Gather the evidence present it and object and press at the right times in court. Pretty straight forward with good writing and good characters.
Fun, engaging and immersive role-playing game of defending a variety of cases!
There is no other game quite like this and every case i've played so far has been interesting and entertaining. Truly great game
Finally played this well-loved game that I've been hearing so much about for so many years, and I cannot say I liked the experience. If you liked Danganronpa you would probably like this as well, I didn't enjoy Danganronpa so I barely stomached through this game.
While I prefer a more grounded and realistic experience, I also get that this is a videogame "court room adventure"; and fictional works usually require some artistic license, and suspension of disbelief from consumer's part. However, this game outright requires a "dispelling of disbelief" and total disregard of reality to play. Are you really trying to convince me that Japanese police are so incompetent that they would miss all the important pieces of evidence? That no proper crime scene investigation is done at all? That I have to point out in court that a fingerprint examination is warranted for the bottle of sleeping pill found on the scene that the police missed during their investigation? Also, the attorney can just illegally enter places and search for evidences that should not be admitted into court and somehow the court just believe what he says?? "OH I found this spying device in her room, trust me bro" and the court just goes "I believe you" like wtf? And EVERY SINGLE witness is committing perjury and contempt of court and there is absolute no consequence whatsoever??? That a prodigy public prosecutor believes every criminal defendant is automatically guilty; and would falsify evidence and instigate witnesses to commit perjury???????
I have to turn off 99.9% of my brain so I can stomach through all these ridiculous and jarring things the game throws at you and leave just enough brainpower to click through all the dialogue options and interactables.
And speaking of clicking through things, why is the outdated UI not changed for this "HD remaster" at all? I get that the original game was old and designed for console but why is the remaster not changing the terrible UI at all? Who considers "entering the wood cabin of Studio 2" "leaving this place"?? Why am I clicking through so many menus just to exit from Studio 2 wood cabin to the front gate???
The game is also often a slog to playthrough. The game isn't played based on logic, instead, most of the time you are just trying to read the dev team's mind. You have to trigger event in a fixed linear sequence, the exact condition of event triggering or what the game considers "time passed" is just an exhaustive search/investigation of scene that requires unreasonable backtracking, i.e. without the prior knowledge that "something is about to go down there" or "something will be triggered if I go there" then there is no reason to revisit and exhaustively investigate a scene. So you end up just backtrack every scene through the outdated UI and click on everything interactable and then skip the dialogues you've already seen so you could haphazardly trigger the new event.
Court room scene is also annoying to play, obvious contradiction could have no dialogue option for you to present evidence or objection simply for the sake of anime style dramatic twist, and it plays like an insult to the player's intelligence in a game that is supposedly mentally stimulating. Also some testimony scene is worded like you could present some evidence to prove contradiction but instead is designed to have you exhaust the "press" option, look incompetent and cornered, then the scripted twist comes. You also have to be able to read the dev's mind on the exact order what evidence to present to a super obvious contradiction, and by then it's not about what happens in game but a meta game of "based on previously how this kind of scenes played out, I think the devs probably want me to present this piece".
I don't know why the police wouldn't just have a bunch of grown and able psychics help them solve the cases by summon the spirits of the murdered, surely not every victim was unconscious and doesn't know who actually killed them.
If you are someone who's accustomed to the style of ridiculousness I think often found in Japanese visual novel and games and animes, and have the ability to totally disregard the jarring incongruities between this game and real life, then I think this game can be a cool mental exercise for you with not-so-capturing twists and stories. I, however, have a strong natural distaste for deliberate incompetency and find no enjoyment in the forced ridiculousness.
"A perfect game to play late at night with a meal, where you enjoy solving an intriguing case. The atmosphere helps you relax and focus on every detail of the investigation."
Cool games that vary too much in quality. At its best, you have very well-designed mysteries with charming characters and funny dynamics, yet it can slow down for surprisingly sentimental moments. At worst, you'll have to spend the next few hours with nonsense logic and completely unlikable characters. I recommend this collection, but the quality being all over the place prevents it from being a "strong recommendation". The games can absolutely fire on all cylinders, but sometimes, there is too much time waiting for those peaks.
stellar. fantastic. amazing. masterful storytelling. one of the few games to feature miles edgeworth, therefore everyone should own a copy of it. and that phoenix guy is there too i guess
I really wanted to like this game because the concept is fantastic but I found it incredibly frustrating to play and found that I wasn't having fun pretending to be a kick-ass lawyer like I envisioned.
The game is incredibly linear and rigid, you HAVE to present evidence at the CORRECT time and in the correct order. I found this incredibly frustrating because there were plenty of places where I felt it was appropriate to present evidence and the game would punish me for it, only for the very next set of dialogue to be the 'proper' place to present it. I found myself stressing and losing progress after being a decent chunk of time into a trial because I started second guessing myself about presenting evidence too soon vs. missing the opportunity to present it at all.
For me, that level of frustration did not match the reward when the story was successful and could continue. Maybe if it got more rail-roady further into the story once I was more invested in all the characters it would have been more tolerable.
TL;DR it's fun and worth it on sale if you're looking for some legal drama and goofy characters.
I think the expectations for this game is important for your enjoyment of it. This is not Columbo or Knives out where you can find the clues to the truth and figure out the twists and turns potentially from the first 10 minutes.
This is BBC's Sherlock Holmes, where you are Dr. Watson and your big tiddy ghost GF is Sherlock, getting Deus Ex Machina'd in basically every case with information and options that you had no way to find or present yourself.
This is not a logic and reasoning based lawyer RPG where choices matter and reality has any bearing. This is a goofy, insane and interactive legal drama with some logic and reasoning puzzles.
I still find myself struggeling to come to those terms, mainly being frustrated at the writing, blatant lies, hypocrisy, double standards, rigged system and impossible demands to not only clear your client but also find the real killer that requires at least 1 Deus Ex Machina per trial, sometimes multiple.
But despite my issues, I'm still playing and it's got me hooked. I want to see what comes next and what insane BS they will pull out of their asses next. So yeah, absolutely worth it on sale.
Recommend playing it in one sitting.
A very well told story that didn't get boring for a second.
Fun story, awesome soundtrack, recommend. Stay away if you hate reading, 90% of gameplay is through text.
Good game. Great for when you want to force your relatives to voice act a game with you
super fun. bought it on sale and the value is very good. I wasn't sure if I was gonna like it because its a visual novel, but its very compelling and fun to play for the most part.
