The hundred years war was over, sentient machines that have threatened our very existence were finally defeated and spread across the outer rim with no means of interstellar travel. As centuries were passing by stories of war became tales, eventually even memories faded and nothing but echoes remained.
You play as a millitary officer, serving on a deep-space research vessel sent to explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy, that has been shot down near an uncharted planetoid. After miraculously surviving the crash and being stranded alone on an alien planet, occupied by an Artificial Intelligence race, thought to be extinct for centuries, your only chance for survival is to repair your ship before you are overun by merciless machines. Repel countless waves of enemies using a large arsenal of weapons and by building or upgrading turrets, while trying to send a distress signal back to Earth.

A nice simple shooter game. It does sometimes glitch but for less than $10, it is not bad at all. Would be nice if they would add updates or create a new shooter like this.
Way too buggy. 75% of the time you finish a wave, it freezes.
The game crashes repeatedly. meaning expect about 3 - 4 restarts per hour.
Also, slow to 10fps for chunks of time on my 3090 10900k system.
Worth a go, especially for the price.
Tepid recommendation, only because the game is inexpensive. Repetitive gameplay, awkward ui, slow pace to ramp up difficulty.
As wave shooters go, this is above average. Once the game gets going with multiple turrets and frantic 360 degree attacks it's pretty exciting. There just isn't much variety or depth of gameplay or any story to speak of.
Hopefully the DEVs will add content over time.
As far as wave shooter go, this game is really fun.
Echoes of War is a wave shooter that adds a twist to the genre by mixing resource mangement and turret placement along with shooting and lightsaber defense.
You find yourself crash landed on a planet full of hostile machines. You must spend your days defending yourself from the machine threat, and using the scrap from the fighting to upgrade your resources and repair your ship.
PROS
-Gunplay feels good, and you can even pick enemies off in the distance before they ever reach your base if you aim right.
-Can deflect enemy shots using a lightsaber.
-Resource management is intense. You will be strapped for scrap most of the early waves.
-Turret placement is a fun challenge, have to balance between placing them to block shots on you, and placing them so they last long enough to help in a fight.
-A surprising amount of upgrades for every turret and your own personal equipment. Ties into the resource management.
-Six different kind of turrets to play with.
-The game has a surpisingly nice atmosphere, you really feel isolated on a deadly planet.
NEUTRAL
-Graphics are fine, but there isn't much style to it.
-Kind of ties into graphics, but enemy variety is small. While there are a lot of "types" of enemies, they are mostly just split into sphereoid flying drones of varying types, and ground vehicles with either wheels or "spider" legs. I havn't beaten the game yet so there might be more waiting to be discovered.
-Turret balance might need some tweaking. So far I have found the most success just using the basic turret and fully upgrading it. All other turrets are really expensive for the initial build, and once destroyed cost a lot to repair. So far it seems the easiest just to build a basic turret to take shots while you use your own gun and other upgraded turrets to kill enemies. This might change in the later levels though.
CONS
-The UI is infuritatingly slow. You have a whole bunch of menus you need to click through to do things, and you have to wait a few seconds for the transition animation. It is really annoying. It also doesn't "feel" very good to click on things in the menu. I can't tell when I have succesfully clicked on a menu icon.
-The UI seems to wide for the FOV. I have to look at the very edge of my vision to see my health and turret icons.
-There isn't much feedback when you take damage. You get a quick "incoming fire" alert, but not much feedback when you actually take the hit. I can't tell where the shot came from, and often I get a surprise game over because I ran out of health and didn't realize it.
-Turrets do not have any identifiers on the menu. Unless you build them in a specific order, you can't tell specifically which turret it is in relation to its icon in the menu.
Overall it is a great game for the price, and I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a twist on the wave shooter.
I have to admit that I like the idea of this game more than the game itself.
It's a nice defense game with towers, but where you also get to play your part in the fight.
The economic side makes you choose between either boosting your survivability or actually contributing to the goal.
The graphics look good (except for a few glitches with the shading) and the enemies and turrets animations are quite nicely done. Overall, it looks good.
The problem is that even if it's content is completed, it's definitely not polished.
Even though I play strategy games (including tower defense) and I have some experience with VR shooters, I had to switch to casual because I was losing a lot. Worst part is, I didn't even see much of a difference.
On a few occasions the game even failed to register that the wave has ended, forcing me to restart.
Primary weapon's sniper mode seems pretty pointless - if I hold the gun close enough to my face to see anything in the visor, my controllers lose sync with the base stations and the gun starts to shake so much it's useless.
Talking about useless - sniper tower might as well be a wall. It seems to have the same range as the rest of the towers, it misses just as often, but the shooting speed is abyssymal and the damage doesn't make up for it at all.
As for the menu, it looks to me like it was designed by a left-handed person. Even though in a right-hand mode you hold the menu with your left hand and click with your right hand, all the primary buttons are still on the far left side, so you have to cross your arms constantly.
The menu transitions take 3 seconds just to show the animation, then another second to start being interactive. Considering that most useful info and functions are hidden in the submenus, it becomes a problem quite fast. Because of that, I spent 25% of the time just standing with my arms crossed like I'm asking to be handcuffed, waiting for the game to finish showing off and let me continue.
Another problem is the battle interface, which is stretched so wide that all the important info (that happens to be placed at the far sides) moves out of my field of view.
Still, it is something worth trying out.
If the devs fix the bugs and the interface, maybe rebalance the game a little, I'm sure I'll play it a lot more.
Fun game hope they add alot more content to the game. Kinda like space pirates meet tower defense.
Not bad for seven bucks
+ Big plus for left-hand mode
+ Satisfying gun mechanics
+ Fun gameplay
+ Might have replay value due to multiple possible strategies
- Unfortunally you cannot have a gun in each hand to go full-Rambo
- Turret icons look very similar it's a bit hard to understand which one is taking heavy damage
