Описание

Paradox Wrench is a first person puzzle game.

You have agreed to be part of an undisclosed experiment. You will be equipped with a special weapon-like tool. This tool has the ability to switch the physical dimension of certain objects, as well as your own.

There is the normal dimension, which you are used. It collides with everything. Then there is a blue and an orange dimension. These dimensions only collide with the same color/dimension as well as the normal dimension.

You will have to discover how this strange tool works, using your wit to complete intricate tests.

Paradox Wrench is a simplistic thematic ripoff of Portal... it's a first person 3D platformer with a minimalist aesthetic and a gimmick where you phase different blocks of different colours using your colour gun... if some blocks don't match the colour of your gun, you can phase through them. This means you need to consider which colour to shoot various platforms and which colour to have active so you can jump either through or on top of various blocks and platforms. It also has surprisingly okay voice acting for the GladOS ripoff AI thing that's making you do platformer puzzles.

This almost seems like a sincerely made game but then it's from one of the business partners of the asset flippers at Volens Nolens and SA Industry, famous for polluting Steam with asset flips and other garbage, so there's always that word of caution that gamers should consider (especially considering Valve banned 800 garbage asset flip games last week).

But let's go into why Paradox Wrench isn't worth buying as a game, because reviews are about the games and not the developers.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

The game features lazy minimalist/untextured low-polygon "retro" assets and visuals, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. The lack of textures is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It looks bad as a result of their decisions, and that's just another reason to avoid it.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.

The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.

Paradox Wrench is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

The game's general idea is really nice. It really has great potential. However, sadly, the game is ruined by technical problems.

First of all, you cannot change the mouse sensitivity. Kind of annoying but still bearable.
What's more annoying is that the movement, especially jumping, is a bit clunky. But again, that is something you get used to.

The real dealbreaker, however, is that the game does not catch your mouse. When you look around by moving your mouse, the cursor wanders off to a secondary screen. It does not matter whether you play windowed or not. If you click then, you click outside of the game hence the game loses focus. Super annoying and frustrating.

Some puzzles are challenging enough to recommend this game, but some other puzzles can be worked around in ways that are not intended and that spoils the whole point. Too short, but fun

Alright quite good puzzles that are super hard sometimes but some things are broken but overall quite good for a portal knockoff but get portal it is much much much better.

this game is like partially baked cookies even in the time that it takes to complete the entire game (meaning it is really short)

it has multiple problems some of these include no music, annoying sounds (there is a high pitched sound at the end of jumping that drove me mad so I had to disable sounds) while the voice work itself was actually decent the Riddles he used as a script were bad because when you would enter the room the narrator would ask a riddle and then it would give the answer when you completed the puzzle so often by the time I ended the level I had totally forgotten what the original question even was making the answer pointless. not to mention often when giving the answer the game would glitch and it would quickly repeat the track 2 times

gameplaywise some of the puzzles were actually decent however the designer didn't do a great job easing you into the rules of your tool's capabilities basically you would get thrown into a puzzle room and you had to figure out the new rules that they threw in there and one thing of extra annoyance is that the pickup function was not implemented well because you can not pick up a block if you are too close to it so with the first block it was super frustrating when I was clicking to pickup the only block that had a possibility of being picked up and nothing happened not to mention the key prompt doesn't show up when you are targeting the block to pick up instead it just keeps slowly fading in and out in the middle of the screen every minute. so I had no clue what to do and was wondering if there was some invisable block in the air I wasn't seeing not to mention your guy moves slow and jumping moves you much faster

this game is just too unpolished

It's quite an average game inspired by Portal and likes of it. Not very complicated, not very long. I've beaten the game in 1.5 hours and I bet it can be done way quicker bc couple of times I made pauses in gameplay without quitting the game. I'd say wait for the sale, then buy it. Again, nothing special about it. Not bad for a beginning developer, but not enough to be called a real game. The voice acting is not bad, though you won't get much of that either. 5.5/10.

A simplistic, and well thought-out light-weight contender for short first-person puzzle platformers.
If you don't want a tiresome plot to clog your head with; this is fine by me!
Recommended buying time is when a sale discounts the game.

There are very bad puzzle games, and then there are bad puzzle games and then there are decent puzzle games (at this price point). This one skirts the line between bad and decent. It's better then Polarity, and it's a lot less buggy then the likes of Colortone or Blik. It's cheap, but you can finish in in under one hour. It has some funny dialogue, but most of it consists of riddles and a narrator trying to hard. The sound design is bad, the puzzles are easy... all in all, wait for a sale.

Got the game for cheap because I like puzzle games. The core ideas are really interesting and I'd love to play it more but there are some issues which really need addressing before I'd commit to finishing it.

Firstly it is very clunky (at least using an Xbox Controller). The aim speed is insanely slow and I could see no way to change it (there needs to be a sensitivity slider for mouse and analogue stick in an in-game options menu). The movement speed is also way too slow in my opinion. I understand that this may be to ensure the platforming works correctly but it's still pretty infuriating and there's no analogue movement either. Other than that the controls make sense and the puzzle mechanics were great in the levels I've played so far. Obviously some comparison to Portal must be made here but the colour switching gun really takes the box/orb style puzzles to another level along with the new mechanics which support it.

The narration sounds professional and I enjoyed the riddles accompanying each room (though I had heard many of them before I'm sure many people won't have done). Sound design other than that is a little lacking I felt as I didn't notice much, if any, ambient noise. Maybe some lights flickering on with accompanying noises as you enter each room and the occasional experiment gone wrong elsewhere in the facility along with some general creaking and groaning to give the environment a little more life.

Finally the visual style is clean and mostly uninstrusive. However I sometimes had trouble processing the environment as the walls have seemingly no texture whatsoever leading to walls on different elevations and in different parts of the level blending together. Just some simple tiling would work (though preferably some pipes, panels and other lab themed props would be very much appreciated). In general the visuals look rather like 'programmer art' (which is understandable if this was a one-person project but still worth mentioning).

I got the game for less than 50p so I can't bring myself to not recommend it but if these issues were fixed then I'd come back and buy it all over again for full price or more (depending on length). Better yet I'd certainly buy a reasonably sized level pack for a few quid (maybe with a new mechanic or two, again no idea how extensive the base game is as I have no yet finished it due to the low sensitivity).

Fun puzzler that took me about 80 minutes. That time includes me overthinking some of the puzzles, saying "Oh, you idiot!" to myself when I finally realized the solution, and then backtracking to get the cubes where they needed to be. Surprisingly, it took me only 3 tries on level 13 (which is pretty much all about platforming and quick responses).

All-in-all, I found this to be extremely enjoyable, and I highly recommend it.

Good game, nice and simple puzzler. Easy to learn the mechanics, later levels get pretty difficult.

Had lots of fun with this, felt good to have to use my mind for once. Finishing level 13 gave me the good feels that I havent had in a long time from games. Definitly worth it for the price.
